@@katherinelkay7947 It's not necessarily about effort. Stylists who aren't presenting for RUclips typically have a designated amount of time they give each client. It's probably not enough time to do this. If you want a big project, the best bet is to find a salon that does free consultations, and then meet with the stylist and explain what you want ahead of time. That way the stylist can let you know what she's able to accomplish in one session, and schedule enough time for that session, and give you an idea of what the price will look like. You can also feel out the stylist, and decide if she's a good fit or not. You might need to wait weeks after the consultation for her to have a long enough time slot to fit you in. That's not a bad thing: It means she's in demand. (But sometimes clients cancel last minute too, so someone immediately having enough time isn't necessarily a bad thing either.) It also depends on the hair you walk in with. Certain hair types lift slower, or require multiple sessions if you want the hair to stay healthy. And if you have previous color on your hair, that complicates it even more.

Yes, probably the best kind of hair to highlight and balayage. You probably don't need higher than 20 volume bleach due to damage. Also, invest in your bleach and developer and don't buy the cheapest out there. Not all bleach and developers are the same some are so harsh they will fry your hair. What is worse than having one tone dark hair is having unhealthy bleach blonde hair that is brittle, feels like straw, and breaks. I would also do a time test on a strand of your hair, plus test the bleach to make sure your hair can take how light you want to take it. Do an allergy patch test also. The DIY route can be great if you are cautious yet wise about your decisions. Good luck if you DIY!
