I can't thank you enough for such a thorough and detailed guide. Many many tutorials are filled with young adults trying to force some bizarre charismatic camera personality into their videos with soundtracks playing in the back, and they don't cover in detail how to go about different steps and what can potentially go wrong. Thank you for keeping it simple and professional.
Thanks Andrew! Just fixed my E102 Hard Drive with your guide replacing the drive on my Xbox One X. I don't live in a country where Microsoft supports Xbox so this was my only shot. Selfless people like you who take the time to these kind of thing to help people out is why the internet is so amazing. Thank You!
I cannot thank you enough, My Xbox One is finally alive again after a year and a half of trying multiple fixes!! We need people like you working for Microsoft and rendering the much needed support on their products!! Year 2020 kicking off on a good note now...lol
If you're tempted to re-use the original disk, check it for bad sectors with HDAT2 (available free at hdat2.com). If it finds many, or any unrecoverable, purchase a new drive. Any between 500GB and 2TB are fully supported.
@@AndrewPaul what if the original drive doesn't appear when connecting to the PC, does that mean the drive is dead? No spinning click noise, just doesn't appear in windows
Flawless my friend! To no avail I have a fully functioning xbox one again. My brother was devastated that his xbox failed, thank you so much for your thorough instructions. My hat goes off to you and the individual who wrote the scripts. Thank you!
I think you (and other youtubers with similar videos) just saved me $200+. My internal HDD was dying - I think (continuous E102/E105 loop) so I popped in a 512gb SSD and the entire process went extremely smoothly, exactly as shown in this video. After installing the drive and doing the eject+sync+power/3 beeps deal, it took me right to the dashboard instead of taking me through the initial setup. I read on another forum that after doing this it's a good idea to do another factory reset because some settings are stored in flash and may not end up on the new HDD (like you showed in this video) so I went ahead and did a full factory reset anyway. No hiccups at all! $55 ADATA 512gb SSD instead of shipping it off to Microsoft for $230+shipping. I'm downloading my main game now.
When I ran the formatting script on the 512gb SSD, it ended up with 12gb in unallocated space. No big deal, just something to take note of if someone else is using a 512gb drive instead of 500gb.
Never subscribed to a youtube channel but this video just saved my xbox one that was about to be binned after HDD failure.... I now have my xbox one back working and with a nice 1TB drive installed. Total cost £40. Local repair places near me were quoting £100 to do this!! Thank you sir :D
YOU'RE A HERO! My console had been "dead" for 8 months, but I had been PC gaming instead. PGA2k21 came out and I really wanted to hit the links with my console friends so I began to search for a fix. Followed the steps here and installed a new 1TB HDD into my launch day Xbox One and it's back to life and running faster than ever. THANK YOU!!!!!
HUGE thank you for this video!! My son's Xbox needed a hard drive replacement, and by following this video I was able to do it all myself. I appreciate you uploading this!
Hi. guys I`m very happy about this video. My son just getting a game from grandma, he waiting 9 hours to downloading then playing about an hour the get to sleep. Today morning his xbox won`t turn on. He and dad try to fix it with everything they found on google. After hours and hours then finally dad fount this video and follow step by step and surprisingly fixed the xbox within an hour. AMAZING OUTSTANDING JOB. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!
Absolutely brilliant video which I followed to the letter. However, found that the XBox did not power up. Messaged Andrew for guidance and with his tips not only corrected the power up issue (my incompetance) but also managed to complete the change over to a new drive. Thank you so much !
Andrew, I'm really grateful for your video, as month ago I stuck on a E101 on my Xbox One X console after my hdd died. Was trying to fix it on my own and after several tries I gave up, and passed my console to the service and paid huge money for fixing it. Fun thing that they failed to fix it, and returned me it back with E100 error telling me different stories, I've already aware of. I did know about insiders thing, about Blu ray drive, and so on. I was really upset having a bricked Xbox O X, and left it for a month, believing that it's an insiders enroll issue. I watch your video with a E100 where Blu ray chip failed, and was 90% sure that I have this issue as it was same error ending. At last, grabbed my all optimism, I decided to do everything as on video - and bingo IT started to do a thing! (Before - Console was stuck on a 58% and rebooted to E100 error same as BD issue). The mistake I made before - I moved only 6 files to folders A and B, as from other guides)
I wanted to take the time to say that this guide worked perfectly! I was able to repair my Day One Xbox One and it is now working perfectly again!!! Thank you!!!
My XBox One S was shutting down during start up, and sometimes during a new system update via USB. Changing the HD has solved the problem. I didn't use the boot animation stage but no problems caused. Thank you for taking the time to make such a clear and useful video. I live in Vietnam and had no way to get a professional. You are a legend! Cheers mate.
Just wanted to say a huge, "Thank you" for this guide! I've performed the upgrade to an SSD on my XBox One X using these steps (along with a tear-down video) and it has worked flawlessly. Very clear instructions, presented in a simple to follow, step-by-step manner. Great job and thank you again!
I work in IT i recently lent my Xbox One Original to a friend who had the drive fail, we both spent a good hour or so watching and following the walkthrough. My Xbox One now has a new harddrive and works great i really appreciate the help on this, keep up the great videos much love from Missouri.
Initially suffering from Black Screen of Death, tried doing offline update and Had the E100 error cycling from 58%, followed your video but used repair on each partition and replaced A&B as directed. Worked perfectly, thank you so much Andrew you are a star!!!!!!!! honest and genuine Thanks.
This video saved me from having to replace my Project Scorpio Xbox One X. I'll probably go through this process again to update to a proper hard drive. E102 error, but had a backup 500GB. Used to have 1TB. 2TB is next!
Thank you soooooo much for this detailed video! Worked like a charm for me going from the 500gb (that was making a loud noise) to a 1tb SSHD. Only things I had to deal with was to make sure when you initialize a brand new disk, make sure it’s GPT not MBR. I also made sure, after the installation on the Xbox was completed, to do the factory reset until the second beep as was demonstrated and then everything went like a breeze. Didn’t have a black screen but I wanted to be thorough. Longest part was it took a while to reinstall all the games but no issues thus far. Thanks again!!!!
Thank you! This is the video that saved my XBox One S. The 500 Gb HDD in it failed and I couldn't figure out how to get a 500 Gb SSD to work. Finally found this video and was able to provision the drive correctly and setup the flash drive. Worked like a champ once I followed all the steps. Thanks again. Fixed my XBox One S E102 issues 4/24/2021
To those of you experiencing a black screen where your splash screen used to be, I have found a fix! Video will be incoming shortly. In the meantime, I'll upload a new file to the usual location in the description - I'll reply below once that has been done. Anyone with the black screen just needs to replace their bootanim.dat files in A&B with the one I'm going to give you. It appears the new updates corrupt one of the copies of the existing file for some unknown reason which causes the issue. Many thanks for watching!
@@AndrewPaul hi Andrew just found your videos after been sent round in circles on Reddit by various "Xbox people" have you ever done this when the console is in the beta (preview) builds I'm not very technical so I'm going to watch this video afew times to catch as much as I can but pulling hair out with these e102 e105 errors. Any help is much appreciated.
March 2020, just followed mate! Works perfectly! I saved an old xbox one which gave me errors E100 and E101, I needed to wipe out the HDD and the followed your tutorial! The script program has been updated and now has some more options that are really helpful. You saved our quarantine, cheers from Italy!!
I don’t know if ur still respond to comments but I keep getting an error when I try to use the Xbox master. It keeps saying format volume : invalid parameter
BOOM!! Got it done in less than 45 minutes including opening up the Xbox One X with an 860 QVO SSD. The old hard drive was giving non-stop error codes at boot up and spent an entire week trying to fix it but nothing worked. Excellent video my friend!
Were you able to access the troubleshooting menu with the hard drive out. I'm quite desperate and I don't want to waste time to no use so I hope you reply
Rarely do I comment on RUclips videos but this one is definitely deserving! Thank you for this. I was able to dust off an Xbox One that's been lying dormant for nearly a year! Much appreciated!
Andrew I owe you a beer! Microsoft wanted to charge me over £200 to replace a broken hard drive but after watching your tutorial all it cost me to replace it myself was the cost of a new hard drive. Your tutorial is excellent and I love the way you explain the reason for doing each step, not just how to do it, it makes it very easy to follow. Hopefully I can pass my new found knowledge on to friends or family members that have a dead xbox. Thanks again.
Hi Andrew, great and very clear video. I followed everything to the letter, boot up from USB, it recognises the USB, makes the tone of loading the files, then I get the fourth tone and it begins to install. But then I either hear the tone of pressing the eject button or not, and then the power down tone, and then it powers down a few seconds later. Any idea? I formatted a brand new 2TB drive and everything went fine.
You just saved my bacon my friend. My Xbox one 1 Hard drive failed and this close to next gen I didn’t want to buy a new one. Used the sea gate 2tb hybrid drive and it worked flawlessly. Thank you so much great explanation and you made a fairly scary process pretty easy.
Just wanted to say thank you for the excellent tutorial. I had been having problems with my Xbox and had surmised that the hard drive was the likely culprit. It was. I had a few hiccups with the command prompt that too me a few extra minutes to work out but it was smooth sailing after that. Glad you put in the part about sometimes having to "reset" the system after installing the hard drive as mine did the same thing as in the video. Thanks you! Now I have a functional and upgraded Xbox.
Just replaced my Xbox one's dead 1TB hard drive with a 2TB (January 31 2020) and it works like a charm. THANK YOU Andrew, you saved me a ton of money with this video. You sir, are the freaking MAN!
I had E101, chabged my hard drive and it works then 2 weeks after that I decided to link the old Hard drive to my PC and see what happens.. it was working so i deleted all volumes then added a new volume then after that i tried to do the same steps to it linked it to my Xbox and it worked... so guys u can save some money by trying this!!
“E101 90000005 8007045D” Those r the errors i got when trying to Offline update and “0X8007045D 0x00000000 0x90000005” when I tried to do online update
You've saved my Xbox One X. You star :) I managed to get myself into an E102 loop as the initial update that seemed to work wasn't responding to my controller, ever after resyncing, and restarting the console threw the E102. This persisted through trying to reset it. But then after unplugging it, powering up in restore mode and applying the offline update (again) from the troubleshooting screen, it worked. Thank you so much. I'd tried purchasing a new machine everywhere as it seemed to be on sale for £260, but they were all constantly out of stock. I was looking at £350+ otherwise, and even Microsoft's repair service only offered an out of warranty replacement for £260, for potentially just a refurbished console. Oh and the update script is on version 9 and has a few more options, but they're pretty self-explanatory.
When trying to run the script on command after choosing the size drive I have it says "missing operand" 3 times, then MISSING DRIVE X: 'SYSTEM UPDATE'. What's gone wrong??
I have a fix, if your hard drive is "Non standard"meaning not true 2TB or 1TB, try downgrading the size allocation. Mine gave me the same error on a 2TB disk, it runs out of space before it can create drive x, so i tried 1GB and it worked!
@@Omiicron thank you very much, this just worked for me.... im in the process of fixing this xbox today after a year and a half of struggling and procrastinating...
@@MarvK84 can you tell me how did you fix it? i got xbox one (2013) and new 1 tb Seagate Barracuda HDD. and it gives error missing drive X always on script. Also i cant do offline update/ it says error E102.
I just did this last night on a current generation Xbox One X. Here are a few things to note: First, the part that's not shown here -- the physical disassembly -- is pretty brutal. You have to remove 26 screws (yes, I counted) in order to get to the hard drive. It's technically 30 if you include the four that hold it to the drive bracket. Don't even start the process unless you have a decent working area and definitely use either a magnetic mat or a towel to put the screws on. Not only that, there are at least five, if not more, different types of screws. Seriously, lay them out in the order you took them out or you'll regret it. The hardest part is putting it back together. There are a bunch of those little cushion pads that fall out as you're taking the case apart that you have to realign. The plastic case has L-shaped teeth that are also a huge pain in the ass to line up. The link in the comments on this video reference an older version of the drive partitioning script. The latest is version 7 and while it does the same thing, there were some slight differences. Oddly, running it from a typical Windows command prompt (CMD.exe), even run as administrator, failed for me. I had to instead open PowerShell and for whatever reason it worked there. But the weirder part is that I didn't have to do any of the recovery boot procedure. After running the script, copying all the files, and putting in the new drive, I was immediately able to boot it up and log into XBL. The reason I even know this is because I couldn't get it to boot into recovery mode (more on that in a bit). Holding the eject and bind buttons just weren't doing the trick so I eventually just booted normally. It completely ignored the USB stick and just let me log in. Maybe this is because of the newer script or newer versions of the binaries from Microsoft? As he mentions in the video, I was still seeing blank/corrupted tiles so I did a factory reset but I was able to do it all from the main Xbox interface. That said, the reason I couldn't boot into recovery mode is because I either broke the "controller bind" button or, more likely, didn't get the ribbon cable reattached correctly. When I press it now with the console powered on it does nothing. I haven't felt like tearing it apart again so I guess I'll live with it for now. Anyway, excellent video. Thanks for doing this and good luck to anyone who gives this a shot.
I follow these steps perfectly with a brand new hard drive, however no matter what i do, I ALWAYS get Missing X: system update and I cannot for the life of me understand why.
Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial saved my Xbox One when I found out the original drive died last night! Had a 500 GB SSD laying around and I slapped that in and followed this tutorial all works well so far!
Solution. I followed the insruction of this video many times and still got error 101 or 102. The trick is that before you format the hard drive you need to create the MBR or Master Boot Record. Then continue following the instructions in the video
Hey man, I also followed the instructions multiple times and still got the errors some time after. Can you please tell me how to create the MBR before following the instructions of the video.
I bought a 1 tb hard drive and a usb to sata cable. Followed directions exactly and left everythig including new drive as a MBR. Installed hard drive and everything worked fine. When he says dont touch nothing listen. Follow exactly and it works. No bullshit. Thanks for being real and helping those that need this help.
Thank you. :) Indeed, MBR or GPT really shouldn't matter - if you follow this video start to finish without skipping anything or pre-empting any steps (as tempting as it might be) then this will work for you too.
Followed the guide to a t, still getting e 101. Says preparing to update but the bar doesn't even hit 1% before " something happened e101". Imyusing 1tb firecuda. Any suggestions what to try next. May try a different usb flash drive. Not sure what else to do.
I had all sorts of issues whilst trying this guide but couldn't get it to work. As I was upgrading to a bigger hdd a 2tb sized drive the initial setup on my pc worked a charm, but not connected to the Xbox. My work around was to copy the 2 folders A and B and the updater xvd file from my original Xbox drive to the 2tb hdd that was replacing the original drive and install the software that way. My Xbox one x now has the 2tb drive in and fully working. Hope this helps others having problems upgrading their hdd drives.
Found these videos, very helpful. Instructions were easy to follow, however, I had, what seems to be a unique problem, since I can't find anything on the internet to help. During the April 2021 update, I kept getting an "oops something went wrong" error, what seems to have happened was, my BT broadband dropped to 1 Mbps at the same time the HDD was throwing up errors. I couldn't connect to Xbox Live, but everything offline works. I did the full reset, wiped everything to get it working but it failed. So, got a new HDD drive and replaced the old drive and followed the instructions as contained in the video, but as Andrew said, it looked like I was going to have to wait for a new update to be released on OSU1. But, I had a brainwave and copied the "System Update" and "System Support" files from the old drive onto the new drive and somehow it worked. Thanks Andrew for your excellent videos.
My original 500gb phat console HDD died and I've been trying to replace it with a new 1TB, but the system update gets to 33% on "Applying update" / 71% overall and then returns an Error 102. Any ideas?
Hey guys sorry for the delay. I did fix it, I think by replacing with a 500 (as that was what was in it to start with) and using the recovery method, without putting any of the OS files on the drive. As soon as I put the 500 in it completed immediately. As soon as it was booted up, I started the procedure again with the 1TB and it worked fine. I think it needed the 500gb because the system had totally failed while it had a 500 in, and needed the same size to restore. That’s my guess anyway.
It works in May 2020. My xbox X had a hard drive failure during quarantine and this video saved me. I switched my hdd out for a $50 1tb hdd. Thanks for the help and saving me cash!
That’s encouraging to hear. My One X just randomly went down and I’ve tried numerous times to do an offline factory reset...it always fails during the OSU1 install. No consoles anywhere to buy, as they’re all sold out during this pandemic. I really think it’s likely a bad hard drive. I think I’ll try this out soon!
Your video saved us, when everyone, even Microsoft said that our device was a goner and we needed to repair it or buy a new one! Just make it a bit simpler and its perfect 👌 😉 Thanks once again!
Thank you! Microsoft wanted 189.99 to fix my xbox which is out of warranty, and is one of the first xbox one's on the market. I bought a usb, 6.99, and a 1 TB internal harddrive, and sata to usb cable which in total is around a 100.00 US. I followed this video to the letter and like magic my xbox one is up and running. I cant thank you enough. You saved me 100.00 easy!
To those recently experiencing a black screen on startup where the splash screens used to be even after copying the bootanim.dat files to folders A&B - I'm currently looking into the issue. A 2020 update for this tutorial using the latest v9 scripts is also in the works... stay tuned and many thanks for watching!
Absolutely, yes still workable. Checked the files out from the latest update and the CRC compares to the old files - everything works fine for me - splash screens etc still display.
Your awesome man. There's not much updated detailed help out there for this. Thank you for your time! I'm thinking of doing this, but it seems like people are having issues now?
so the may 5 2020 update is larger than the system update folder and it keeps failing to update. the osu1 file is too large to fit into the A and B folders under partition X. not sure what to do here. the new osu1 file is 10.5GB
I sure as hell haven't on my X. Switched over to a 1Tb SSD on my GEars X and that went swimmingly, but my project scorpio X is now just a freaking paperweight.
Upgraded to an SSD and this worked beautifully the first time on 7/20/20. No issues, errors, etc. whatsoever. Excellent video. Extremely helpful. Thanks!!
Great video. My osu2 files will install completely; however, I get the "something went wrong" screen right when it starts to verify the install. Anythings from anyone?
I have used this method on numerous consoles but I've come across one that keeps getting stuck at 85%. I've tried multiple backup tested good hard drives and same thing everytime. Anybody have and ideas?
Just did this procedure and everything works 100% Your voice and instructions are good enough to teach me how to perform open heart surgery. Just one note. Some people may have to temporarily disable antivirus when downloading the xboxmasterhdd file. Well done and thanks. subbed.
So I tried your Updated Tutorial, unfortunately that didn’t work for me. But this 3 year old video Tutorial sure did. Had to create the file structure for the Xbox One S replacement hard drive due to the old one being completely dead. Replaced it and cause a E101 error. But this tutorial fixed that and I was able to replace the hard drive with a 2TB. Thank you 3 years later xD
I need some help.. I did the install from a 1tb on my xbox one x to a 500gb SSD.. Everything went fine no errors or issues except that when I put in a game in the tray it takes it and then u here noises like it loading but never loads on the screen.. also if i just pick any game I have on a disc that has already been installed when I click for it on my library it ask do u own this game.. The drive is definitely not he issue because I go back to the original 1tb drive and games just start like normal..
Brilliant video sir. Anyone that gets the E106 error; I would recommend you go straight to using the OSU1 USB stick method. Upgraded my OG XBOX OE to a 1TB. Top work Andrew
Dear Andrew Paul I've said this more than once and I could say it a thousand times more man your videos, your channel, is awesome. Love the detail and work that you put into it; I can't say how much I appreciate what you do man. I couldn't fix nothing without you. I just replaced a hard drive on an Xbox One Original thanks to this video and, get this, I watched the video on another Xbox One while I was working the computer. So I used an Xbox that I fixed, thanks to one of your videos the HDMI replacement one, to fix another Xbox One, thanks to this video. You got to admit that's funny!
*Confirmed working in May 2020* My Xbox One X hard drive recently failed - crashed mid-game while playing Forza Horizon 4 and produced E101 and E102 errors on re-boot and would not recover. Thinking back, I believe the factory HDD was always a bit flaky. The OS always seemed quite glitchy when switching between tabs, installs seemed to take longer than they should and sometimes games would fail to load, crashing at the initial load screen and returning to the home screen. I always just assumed the system itself was a bit crap and as a result I hardly used the Xbox. Followed your instructions to format the new drive and boot using USB and it worked flawlessly first time - so I wanted to extend my gratitude! I think the linked script file runs slightly differently to your video (probably due to an update), but it's pretty self explanatory anyway and easy to follow. I'm now running a 2TB Seagate FireCuda and the performance improvement is night and day. No more glitches and crashes and a nice fast working system, as the One X should be! Thanks again :-)

The link to the script leads to a page with outdated/bad SSL certificate, can't download.
Seems to be working here mate. What browser are you using?
6 лет назад+1
Chrome, Edge, Internet Explorer (tried out just in case I can bypass security). Using ESET Internet Security as an AV. Gonna try with a different PC, maybe it'll work.
Dmitry Granicin you can find the OSU1 file on the Microsoft site...just Google it. I have it stored on flash myself...you should too once ya get the download. Even if it's outta date it will auto update when bootloader starts.... 🙂...just like in the video.
Magnificent! I bought an Xbox one off eBay that was listed as having "no signal" so I thought I would have to do a HDMI port replacement on it, but upon booting it I heard that the HDD was struggling and figured it had to be either badly damaged or broken. Nevertheless I figured I would try replacing it, and followed your guide. Eureka! Everything now works smoothly! Thank you for your highly detailed tutorials that you have here on RUclips!
Confirmed working 14/11/2020 Thank you so much Andrew! Just used this to get a Phat XBOX working that had its HDD removed.. now I have a working XBOX I did get the "missing drive x system update" error in the CMD script, but I figured it out. For anyone having the same issue, if you have multiple storage drives connected to your pc, unplug all the sata cables from the mobo apart from your boot drive, then run the script again and it should work without issue. Im not sure if thats one of many fixes for this issue, but it worked for me.
I am having the same issue. Nobody is helping and i've asked everyone I could think of including Microsoft themselves. Apparently you have to re-map or organize the drives for the correct drive letters. I have no idea what that means or how to do it. If you figure anything out lmk and likewise on my end.
i dont know if you still need help but it happened to me also the missing operand error so what i did was just plug the ssd/hdd back into the xbox and did the offline update and it downloaded the drives that are needed minus the animations did the setup and it went to the home dashboard. teared down my xbox again and pluged back into my laptop and the x drive was there but under a different drive letter but i just put the animation files into my system update drive and it works just fine. It drove me fucking insane.
I have an xbox one s which has had problems for a while before it completely stopped working. First off apps wouldn't open or they would crash randomly, then it got so bad that I factory reset the console, now when I turn on the console most of the time I don't get a display output, but when I do it says "preparing console" then shortly after it runs into an e101 error. I have tried putting the software onto a usb stick and then installing using usb but during the installation, the hdd makes a clicking noise and then it freezes and runs into an error. Do you think this is a damaged hdd and will any 2.5 inch hdd work, or do I need a certain one?
Fantastic tutorial. I now have one very happy 14 year old. MS wanted £120 to do this (or replace with refurb). All it took was £30 for the HD and some clear instructions. Thank you!!
***As of April 1st this still works!**Thank you so much!! My Xbox elite hard drive failed (would turn on but no HDMI signal and shuts off 30sec) I had a extra used 600gb drive, followed your your tutorial and all back to normal. thank you again!
Just did it today Feb 28th, 2020. Amazing tutorial, worked like a charm. I did have to modify the bat file to allow disk 0. The creator of the file was awesome and had comments.
your sync eject method has saved the day, ive formatted the drive like 6 times now with no success as well as creating th A and B folders and the usb thumbs stick, ive replaced and upgraded tons of drives with no real problems that i couldnt overcome until recently, the xbox in question originally had a 1tb drive and i replaced it with a 500gig cuz i was gonna put the 1tb in another xbox, so the drive that was in there was a 500 gig when i decided to swap back to the 1tb and i tried so many different configurations and combinations with no success till i watched your vid, plus i think i may have been using a different command prompt script at an earlier time, i know theirs 2 or 3 different ones out. Ive been customizing xboxes since the original xbox but your video definatly saved this xbox with your sync eject button method, thank you very much
I had E106, black screen no HDMI connection and this fixed it. I used the xbox HDD that wasnt working properly. formatted the disk and then followed the video. Never had to do the installation and veryfying. It skipped directly to the troubleshooting screen. I reset the xbox and now it is working fine. Finally installing FIFA 19. God bless you mate.
Worked beautifully! (November 2020) The biggest issue I ran into was my HDD was a 3.5", which required a powered SATA cable. I kept getting the "No Disk" error, and could not initialize the disk to start the process. The zip file has been updated and some of the menu options changed, but it was simple enough to figure out which ones to choose. Now the Xbox is working beautifully without freezing!
8/24/2020. Confirmed this worked for me Just completed the attempt to replace my HD in a 2017 Xbox one X with errors e102 e105 e203, my Xbox got slower and buggier each day until yesterday when it just refused to turn on. I pulled a 500gb hdd out of a broken Xbox one s and it’s working great. A few things I noticed that were a little confusing. Some files I was working with were already extracted so I had to copy instead. My drive had a different name then yours. And MOST IMPORTANTLY the first two attempts to run the script failed saying DRIVE X NOT FOUND. I had to run a FULL in depth format (not quick format) on the HDD to solve this, afterwards everything went smoothly. I literally threw this Xbox in the trash before searching if I can replace the hdd. You saved me in more ways then one. With this pandemic going you can’t find a Xbox around me for sale in 100miles. GameStop told me they don’t have ANY in my region. Xbox said IF they can fix it it’ll be 249 usd.
Help!! I did this and upgraded my X1X to a Seagate Firecuda (2TB) and after the initial upgrade (3-4 days) my Xbox 1X wouldn’t install games even though it had ~600gbs left. Then it started freaking out and after I reset by holding the power button I got an E105 error. After doing the the recommended reboot procedure the error became an E102. Now I’m stuck in an E102 loop and my Xbox won’t recognize my USB for the update. After several other MS recommended tips my xbox strangely changed resolutions and is still stuck in the 102 error loop. Idk what to do and does this mean my new SSHD damaged??
Thanks for the video. My HD failed last night and I had it up and running today with a Samsung 1TB SSD. The script has been updated so there are not multiple popups. I did not copy any files to the SSD but it worked just fine. I bought a cheap flash drive at the same time and expanded the update file to it. Worked like a charm. Was playing RDR2 tonight.
Did it today with an 500mb SSD on xbox one x and it worked perfectly! Just one more step during the cmd phase / more option I pressed (a) for mine. Thank you very much for the guide 🤟
I followed your instructions in the comments regarding offline updating via usb, it froze probably 50 times, and then finally it worked. For those wondering, be persistent, it may take a bunch of tries freezing along the way but it will work eventually, unless you are getting a bad hard drive error obviously. Thank you!
Thank you x 1000 !!! Son's XBox needed new HDD after tripping over a cable. Followed your very clear and informative instructions and bingo - It's Alive!!! IT'S ALIVE !!!! So, thank you again!
Worked flawlessly! The video is a little drawn out, but I can see how that could be helpful for less tech-inclined individuals. You could save time but executing the whole path all at once with the change directory (cd) command.
good vid but tip for long videos, cutting the vid into sections for every step will help people find what they need help on easier and prevent people from leaving the video.

Marvin Katjihingua did you use the hard drive that was already in the Xbox or did you buy a new one?
If you're tempted to re-use the original disk, check it for bad sectors with HDAT2 (available free at hdat2.com). If it finds many, or any unrecoverable, purchase a new drive. Any between 500GB and 2TB are fully supported.
@@AndrewPaul what if the original drive doesn't appear when connecting to the PC, does that mean the drive is dead? No spinning click noise, just doesn't appear in windows
Possibly so. If it's not showing up in Device Manager or Disk Management then yes, that's most likely the case.
Flawless my friend! To no avail I have a fully functioning xbox one again. My brother was devastated that his xbox failed, thank you so much for your thorough instructions. My hat goes off to you and the individual who wrote the scripts. Thank you!
*** Confirmed working January 2020***
Upgraded to a 2TB hard drive on my Xbox one X thanks for the tutorial
Thanks bill I’m about to try this myself.
Thank you I'm going to do this today, was hoping it still worked
may I ask does this still work if you are in insider program??
Hoang Dinh just unroll your Xbox from the program, replace the Hard drive and re enroll it
My HD bit the dust. I have to give this a try. Xbox One X
I wish I could give a video like this a hundred thumbs-ups. Totally deserves it.
This guy a legend for this video
£100 is abit much . I only charge for the software install the hard drive the customer supplies
Just want to say a big thank you for this video, I followed you step by step
and now my Xbox one x has a new hard drive and is running like a dream.
i cant download the boot image
Upgraded my xbox one today and couldn't have done it without this video, very helpful and in depth great job dude
Thank you so much !
power button ribbon cable? hehe
I commected my drive to my PC and it didnt recognize it. Did you have this problem?
Neal Tosney was upgrade worth it? Considering it myself
I work in IT i recently lent my Xbox One Original to a friend who had the drive fail, we both spent a good hour or so watching and following the walkthrough. My Xbox One now has a new harddrive and works great i really appreciate the help on this, keep up the great videos much love from Missouri.
Excellent video! I just completed in Feb 2020 with your help. Surprisingly, it was not very simple finding a good guide for this.
2TB is next!
bought a second hand xbox 1 x and immediately i had HDD issues. 7 months later!!!! i come across this vid. tyvm my man
Thank you soooooo much for this detailed video!
Hey can u please tell me how to ensure its GPT and no MBR

Thank you so much brother I have had this Xbox one s I bought from the pawnshop for 5 months finally fixed it thanks liked and subbed
This guide is the best thing happened to my xbox one x after its HDD crashed. Two Thumbs up to this guy 👍🏻👍🏻✌🏻
Many thanks for watching!
thank you ! you save my xbox one x ! and "hello" from France ;)
New bootanim.dat for XBOX One S is added into the 'bootanimations.zip' file available in the description.

November 2020 and this tutorial still perfectly works with my old "phat" XB, thank you for this mate, cheers! 👏👍🍻
Thank you for this, I managed to revive an old Xbox One from 2013 that died a few years ago to working condition again thanks to you!
How did it "die?"
“E101 90000005 8007045D”
Those r the errors i got when trying to Offline update and “0X8007045D 0x00000000 0x90000005” when I tried to do online update
Will this help im having E105 issue
You've saved my Xbox One X. You star :)
I managed to get myself into an E102 loop as the initial update that seemed to work wasn't responding to my controller, ever after resyncing, and restarting the console threw the E102.
What's gone wrong??
you ever figure it out?\
I have a fix, if your hard drive is "Non standard"meaning not true 2TB or 1TB, try downgrading the size allocation.
Here are a few things to note:
First, the part that's not shown here -- the physical disassembly -- is pretty brutal.
I follow these steps perfectly with a brand new hard drive, however no matter what i do, I ALWAYS get Missing X: system update and I cannot for the life of me understand why.
use older version
i had the same problem. i fixed it by reinstalling window 10
Am getting no usb or data drives found
Any help
Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial saved my Xbox One when I found out the original drive died last night! Had a 500 GB SSD laying around and I slapped that in and followed this tutorial all works well so far!
Solution. I followed the insruction of this video many times and still got error 101 or 102. The trick is that before you format the hard drive you need to create the MBR or Master Boot Record. Then continue following the instructions in the video
Walid Nabahin before you format in CMD or before you format in Disk Managment
also need assistance with this!
Same here, just finished all steps, getting to the Preparing Console and it turns into 101 or 106. Happy to hear more please. Thanks
Hey man, I also followed the instructions multiple times and still got the errors some time after. Can you please tell me how to create the MBR before following the instructions of the video.
Hey, is everyone sure you need to use MBR instead of GPT? A different user below says to use GPT and I'm now very unsure.
Thank you. :)
Indeed, MBR or GPT really shouldn't matter - if you follow this video start to finish without skipping anything or pre-empting any steps (as tempting as it might be) then this will work for you too.
Followed the guide to a t, still getting e 101. Says preparing to update but the bar doesn't even hit 1% before " something happened e101". Imyusing 1tb firecuda. Any suggestions what to try next. May try a different usb flash drive. Not sure what else to do.
U fix it?i have same problem
You must download the OSU1 files from Microsoft (must have the new one to work)
I had all sorts of issues whilst trying this guide but couldn't get it to work.
Any ideas?
Hey Chris,
I have the same exact problem like you.. please update me if you find any solution
Same here. Gonna redo and skip the update to see if it goes.
Update: no dice. Forces to do the update and hangs in the same spot.
@@chrise86 you just replaced your hard drive?
It works in May 2020. My xbox X had a hard drive failure during quarantine and this video saved me. I switched my hdd out for a $50 1tb hdd. Thanks for the help and saving me cash!
That’s encouraging to hear. My One X just randomly went down and I’ve tried numerous times to do an offline factory reset...it always fails during the OSU1 install. No consoles anywhere to buy, as they’re all sold out during this pandemic. I really think it’s likely a bad hard drive. I think I’ll try this out soon!

is this still workable for the time being? I'm literally about to do this today and want to make sure I don't brick anything
Absolutely, yes still workable.
Checked the files out from the latest update and the CRC compares to the old files - everything works fine for me - splash screens etc still display.
Yea I did this the other day and I’m getting a black splash screen. Everything else works fine.

Dear Andrew Paul I've said this more than once and I could say it a thousand times more man your videos, your channel, is awesome. Love the detail and work that you put into it; I can't say how much I appreciate what you do man. I couldn't fix nothing without you. So I used an Xbox that I fixed, thanks to one of your videos the HDMI replacement one, to fix another Xbox One, thanks to this video. You got to admit that's funny!
Do you have another link for the boot animations? Can't get them to download.
*Confirmed working in May 2020*
My Xbox One X hard drive recently failed - crashed mid-game while playing Forza Horizon 4 and produced E101 and E102 errors on re-boot and would not recover.
Chrome, Edge, Internet Explorer (tried out just in case I can bypass security). Using ESET Internet Security as an AV. Gonna try with a different PC, maybe it'll work.
Dmitry Granicin you can find the OSU1 file on the Microsoft site...just Google it. I have it stored on flash myself...you should too once ya get the download. Even if it's outta date it will auto update when bootloader starts.... 🙂...just like in the video.
filetrip.net/dl?mKUARVKqnM is the one not working.
Downloaded to my phone and transferred to computer.
Files stated in step 2. are not available.... any ideas!
@Enzo Fulberti Thank you so much!
@Enzo Fulberti thanks
Confirmed working 14/11/2020
Thank you so much Andrew!
Just used this to get a Phat XBOX working that had its HDD removed.. now I have a working XBOX
I did get the "missing drive x system update" error in the CMD script, but I figured it out.
For anyone having the same issue, if you have multiple storage drives connected to your pc, unplug all the sata cables from the mobo apart from your boot drive, then run the script again and it should work without issue.
Im not sure if thats one of many fixes for this issue, but it worked for me.
As soon as it tries to update from the usb it says "Something went wrong" "System Error: E101" Anyone have any fixes?
same thing happens to me, did you fix it?
same, still looking for fix or issue.
Same happened to me
I did a factory reset from the troubleshoot menu. It works fine i didn't wanna do it all over again just to have the same thing happen
Check if your on Xbox insiders using a windows 10pc
As of Feb 11, 2021 this guide still works! Can’t thank you enough. Outstanding information.
missing drive X "system update"?
I am having the same issue. Nobody is helping and i've asked everyone I could think of including Microsoft themselves. Apparently you have to re-map or organize the drives for the correct drive letters. I have no idea what that means or how to do it. If you figure anything out lmk and likewise on my end.
@@alexmeyer3296 You mus to try again and again, i do it 3 times and then works (run the script)
i dont know if you still need help but it happened to me also the missing operand error so what i did was just plug the ssd/hdd back into the xbox and did the offline update and it downloaded the drives that are needed minus the animations did the setup and it went to the home dashboard. teared down my xbox again and pluged back into my laptop and the x drive was there but under a different drive letter but i just put the animation files into my system update drive and it works just fine. It drove me fucking insane.
run it again with the same settings. worked for me after running again.
I also love the Kia Stinger :-)
Hands down the best car I've ever owned! Love it :-)
Fantastic tutorial. I now have one very happy 14 year old. MS wanted £120 to do this (or replace with refurb). All it took was £30 for the HD and some clear instructions. Thank you!!
I keep getting missing drive x
***As of April 1st this still works!**Thank you so much!! My Xbox elite hard drive failed (would turn on but no HDMI signal and shuts off 30sec) I had a extra used 600gb drive, followed your your tutorial and all back to normal. thank you again!

I just used your video to upgrade my Xbox One X to a 2tb SSD. Working great so far, I appreciate your thorough steps! Thank you!

8/24/2020. Confirmed this worked for me
Just completed the attempt to replace my HD in a 2017 Xbox one X with errors e102 e105 e203, my Xbox got slower and buggier each day until yesterday when it just refused to turn on.
Works like a champ, most people wouldn't touch the xbox, this fixed it with an inexpensive new SSD and i was back up and running in an hour.
Thank you!
Took a bit but my Xbox now has a 2TB drive! Thanks Andrew for taking the time to make this video it was extremely well documented and helpful
