    Glad you got it up and running! The problem with these modern systems is (for security reasons) the drive has a signature - an ID that the XBOX has stored in its flash ROM also, and when updating etc it checks the drive to make sure it has the same signature as the XBOX expects. If the signature is different they won't allow an update because you could be using some hacked drive or drive replacement solution. It's a little bonkers tbh because with the right level of hacking any replacement drive could be made to present the correct (original) signature, but I guess its a lot of work to hack these. Same thing was true of the 360 I believe.

    • @EllisPerhaps
      @EllisPerhaps 6 лет назад +12

      Yeah, I'm pretty sure this also applies to the OG Xbox as well. I found that out the hard way...

    • @squat224
      @squat224 6 лет назад +2

      it not only was the case with the 360 but your hypothetical of hacking them to work regardless was also the case.

    • @GadgetUK164
      @GadgetUK164 6 лет назад +3

      Yes, I know regards the 360 - I was one of the people looking at the 8051 firmware when they first started looking at the 360 DVD. In theory the same thing is probably possible on the XB1 drives, but they will have beefed up the security since the 360. Maybe the XB1 drives have already been hacked - no idea!

    • @wormchickenwizard
      @wormchickenwizard 6 лет назад

      @@EllisPerhaps Actually it doesn't apply to the OG Xbox. Instead, the Hard drive is the one tied to the console but it can be easily replaced with modding tools

    good video again.

    Hello vince,
    So today I turned my xbox on and the error e100 happened! Stuck on 58% something went wrong! I went to a local computer shop twice to purchase USB stick 64gb and external hard drive caddy! I tried the offline update method with no joy. So with that matter I had to remove hard drive as I gained access to the inside the sata cable from Blue Ray disc drive to the main motherboard was actually disconnected. Dont know how as my xbox hadn't moved but I reconnected the cable in hope it would fix the problem as you said on this video to check all connections. I put the xbox back together turned it on with the troubleshooter and reinstalled the offline update! It passes the58% stage and it's now currently up and running. Thank you vince and to everyone else who gets this problem in the future and willing to open your xbox check the connections before purchasing a new hard drive/console

    Hi Vince, The way you try and fix things is exactly how I started. I never believe anything is unfix able with a little patience and good old google generally sorts it out. Yes your right about the bluray drive, it has a key thats locked to that motherboard, if they dont match then you get the errors you see. A quick swap of the board would of sorted it, but am glad you went a different direction at first as that is part of the problem solving routine for us amateurs. Anyway Im a big fan of your series and always watch the guides. Good luck in the future from Daz

    this helped me immensely, thank you. I went through the same exact troubleshooting process you did - I ended up reconditioning the old drive by cleaning the intake roller with rubbing alcohol and applying some white lithium grease to the exposed plastic cogs and didn't even have to do a bd drive daughterboard swap.
    Upon closer inspection of the replacement drive that was causing the error i noticed it was a different model, DG-6M2S-XXX (dated 2015) instead of the original DG-6M1S-XXX dated 2014, hope this helps someone as i suspect MAYBE replacing a dead drive with the same exact drive model would avoid this issue.
    anyway thank you so much for making this video, i was pulling my hair out - at least i learned how to format a new xbox hdd and got a 500gb spare and an extra disc drive in the process

    I bought my second 360 from ebay, it was giving an error and was 30$ because the seller just gave up. A quick google search later provided a failed update error code was the problem, after buying it and applying the update, voila! All it takes is a little time and effort sometimes. And yeah, even the 360 won't be happy if you swap drives all willy nilly. It's got a key in the drive that has to match up to the system's record. It's important to search error codes, as it's there for helping you find out what went wrong!

My solution for error e100 00000703 80910006 was to plug only disk board(cause I had few lol) to the console of course being very careful to not short anything and then I switched console back on. I have been surprised because it started from the point where it stoped so about 60 procent and finalize the update process. Once I swapped the daughterboards of the disc drives everything worked fine. E100 usually applies to hardware issues in my experience.

    For future consideration:
    Microsoft puts a security code on the motherboard to pair the disk drive with the motherboard. So if they don’t match, all it will do is read DVDs and not play any games and if you try to update the console you will get Error E100 (00000703 80910018) since during the update the console checks for any disk drive problems. So if you plan on changing the optical drive you must match it with its married motherboard.

    great video keep up the good work one thing i'm curious about is that the Xbox one S is close to £400 new or more in some places but there still using a standard mechanical 5400rpm or 7200rpm 2.5" hard drive surely for that price they could fit a 500GB ssd instead as that would stop this issue from happening in the future also it would improve speed,reliability and load times.

    According to a post on sevensins this happens when an update is applied without the (correct) Blu-ray drive connected.

    Liking the vid, but I have to ask about your methods. Did you swap the BD drive before wiping the HDD and it didn't work? It just occurs to me that if the swapped drive was the only issue stopping it updating then the data could have been saved. Seeing as that was the thing that changed prior to failure, it would have to be the logical first thing to check IMO. Having said that, not knocking you & all interesting vids plus the guy got his console working again. Now if there is an issue with the drive at least you can tell him he needs to swap the board over if replacing it... (or just repair whatever the issue was with the original drive.)

    • @danmackintosh6325
      @danmackintosh6325 6 лет назад +1

      I just read the description after posting lol, it was already formatted so there was no data to be saved. Still might have saved you some time checking the original BD drive, wouldn't have been as interesting a video though. FWIW when it kept failing at the write stage consistently on 58% I was thinking damaged HDD as well & thinking a partition might get around the dead area.

    if you want to fix the e100 error code the correct way is to apply the update from a usb stick.. Now this is where it gets tricky and why so many people fail at this... the update that got stuck applying originally is the exact one you need on the usb stick to finish applying.. the xbox 360 used to do this same thing.. you have to find the exact dated $Systemupdate file folder and once its correct, the update should apply and fix the console..you need to know what disc the update applied from and failed or what the date was approximately when it originally failed and go from there and chose closest update until you find it..this is why so many people keep having trouble with usb fix because it has to be exact..

    It's understandable that you do not want to disappoint someone when they send you stuff to fix. But is it really disappointing? From my perspective, i'd rather pay shipping to & from and have an entertaining video to watch than pay someone else to fix it, who doesn't film their fix process. This way, we are actively supporting your channel by having the costs of buying the thing and shipping it covered. It's a "win-win" situation: if you fix it, well it's obviously a good thing; if you don't, we have the video to watch (which is a good thing in itself).

    Was the console modded to allow the owner to play home brew games, That is right if the Blu-ray drive is replaced the you need to swap the PCB from the old Blu-ray drive into the new Blu-ray drive.

    yes it true, the consoles marry bits and pieces inside the box to make sure they match, change one component like a drive and dont change the chipboard from the old into the new in an attempt to fool it into thinking nothing has changed then it stops the system completely, Nightmare...

  • @ndrewwb
    @ndrewwb 6 лет назад +1

    Back in the 360 repair days drives used to be interchangeable as long as you extracted the original drives key from the pcb then that key could be spoofed to other drives and the 360 wouldn't be able to tell if the drive was different. You could also just replace the drive without any flashing by transplanting the original drives pcb over to the new drive. As long as the model number and ROM version were the same (4 different kinds of drives used in fat 360s, some needed soldering while others didn't) then the console would have the right kind of drive and the correct drive key so they would work flawlessly. I assume that the same would work here as long as they're the same model drive with the same firmware, pcb swapping should be enough to replace an optical drive. Microsoft have retained a few design elements from the fat 360 days such as the x clamps, metal cage surrounding the board etc, this could be another thing that hasn't changed.

    Future reference but you should never use a USB 2.0 hard-drive dock, even for laptop hard drives (2.5" ones like the Xbox One S uses, etc.). They *can* need up to 5W of power, which only USB 3.0 can deliver. The price difference is not big enough to warrant getting a 2.0, especially when said lack of power can cause intermittent issues that may make you think the drive is failing when it isn't.
