It's been a very long time since something had me sitting there in pure fascination for half an hour. After watching you accept and meet every challenge in this insane project, nothing seems really impossible to me anymore. Thank you for letting me feel this feeling again!
Now I've honestly seen everything. This is creative engineering in it's purest form. Imagine if Lego actually decides to hire this guy to make complete sets and all...
This is simultaneously smaller and lighter weight than a 90s laptop while also being sturdier than anything built post-2010. Truly a masterpiece of engineering.
Dude basically re-invents the Mindstorms concept while using Mindstorms computer modules. (Mindstorms was the commercialization of an MIT project to make prototyping robots simpler by making LEGO-compatible cases for small microcontroller systems and making LEGO-like sensors and motors.) It's just amazing what a skilled person can do with a mid-range 3D printer and off-the-shelf hobby electronics from Aliexpress. Nothing you did was even vaguely cheap or easy, but none of it was really impossible for someone with your skills to accomplish. That's amazing.
Thanks so much for the super thanks! And I really appreciate you watching the video 🙂 I could've probably added an on/off switch, but I really wanted to make it clear that the LEGO EV3 controller was an integral part of running this laptop, so it functions as the on/off switch under the hidden compartment. Great question!

Brick Machine went all out making this Lego Laptop. That is awesome 16:17 He spents a lot of time making each keys for the keyboard 23:36 A working trackpad 25:31 A working fingerprint scanner

I honestly didn't even know the full capabilities of LEGO until finding your channel, props to you dude! This kind of creativity and engineering really brings a light to my day and peaks my interest and curiosity. You're insanely talented and I envy your skills! I used to fiddle with LEGO when I was younger and I really loved making the little characters battle and whatnot, I usually had my parents build them for me, a large part of me really wishes I honed my childhood curiosity to learn more as once you mature and get older, learning things doesn't necessarily become harder but as a child, your brain sponges things up and has a large amount of room for learning! Thank you for the amazing videos, I enjoy how calming and interesting they can be, and they're really entertaining. If you do end up reading this, I just have one question I'd honestly really like answered; what's the hardest LEGO related project you've ever attempted, completed, or plan to attempt/complete? (Extra question that just popped into my head, after you finish a project like this, do you feel a sense of relievement or do you feel proud of yourself and glad you got to enjoy the process, or do you immediately start trying to find a new and interesting project to work at?)
You really impressed me because you recreated the ASCII signals using i/o boards, and you made yourself a Lego Laptop only using common circuts and regular components. This reminds me how old laptops used to look like, due of the lack of compact components, and you had to do it all by yourself, only using regular components, and tried methods that was infact useful for your DIY laptop. Would be useful if you shared a Step by Step how to work on this laptop, because i likely want to work with something simillar and using broader advanced interface, like installing Raspberry PI.
Very cool build, btw, for the Keys consider trying Waterslide Decal paper. Its a translucent sheet of paper that you can print on then wet it and move it to a key and when it tries it will keep the decal on it. its used often by model builders to add insigniac, flags, text and other small details to their models. And works great for custom Keycaps!
this is why i have respect for anyone in the field of engineering, even if they don't solve world hunger or answer the next big problem, things like this laptop can make people happy and inspire others who might be interested in the field, and thats pretty cool.
