Bought a Series X with error E100 for 300 USD and fixed it with this video using a green SSD that comes in other xbox series S/X models (Solid state storage technology corp model XA13D1024). The procedure was exactly the same as in the video. In my case the original SSD with error E100 was presenting corrupted sectors and self locked in read only mode to prevent further data loss, luckily the raw partition didnt corrupt and i was able to make an image of the partition and applied it to the new SSD.
Thank you for your help with this video
👍👍
I got a little question, The new SSD must be for another xbox series X console or can it be purchase separately the same model
The TOS from Microsoft says if you change your HDD or SSD In their consoles. Then you get banned... Did you?
Important if you update or even reinstall the same version OS the previous RAW partition backup will no longer boot the Xbox if restored at a later point.
Basically you need to backup your RAW partition after each system software update or re-installation.
After so many time namely 10 months,, I don't know how to thank you for the most precious tutorial to future proof XSX and XSS in case of a SDD failure, thank u so much.
Not exactly future proof, Microsoft can patch a workaround to this anytime and make this method redundant because money.
That RAW partition is only raw in the fact that it's missing partition tables IDs. (Try viewing RAW table data)
The EFI and (J)TPM security devices can can read this data and use it soft pair the SSD and secure its contents to the device rather than hard code the the SSDs HW SN into the machine. This will help keep the SSD serviceable. The RAW table would have to be created during the installation of the OS or written from EFI side.
I've been running across this one a few Laptops here recently. It's the same procedure to upgrade their SSDs as it is to do the XBox Series X/S.
On a Laptop however you can access the EFI CLI and recreate the keys for the RAW tables if a drive is damaged. I don't think Microsoft is going to give the End-user access to the EFI interface anytime soon.
For me this is the first step, to make replacing sdd for the xbox series easy, if a developer sees this video,if he wills ofc, can develop a script or a program to get access to that hidden partition on the fly and copy to the new sdd plain easy without fuss, only problem here is inserting animation boot after install the operating system, is annoying have to disassemble again the xbox just because of an animation, but congratulations you're the first one to accomplish this.
con una nueva actualización se instala automática.
@@et121978 Does it work after that?
@@Viggen66 si, puede dejarlo así sin el logo de inicio que cuando reciba una actualización nueva se instalara automáticamente.
This was an awesome video, I found you by mistake actually while looking around trying to find a way to create my own xbox expansion card since i really dont want to spend $350 for the official 2TB expansion card. Some how stumbled apan your video and the work you did figuring this out was awesome! Now if I can only find someone who has managed to make a series x expansion card my day will be complete lol.
you cant create one by yourself. There are multiple Videos where ppl tried it and it failed. All you can do is getting a external 2TB SSD and there u install all Games that aren't optimized for Series S/X.
A great video. You learn more from your mistakes than you do with success. Many vids will show you can do this without actually turning it on. Thanks for taking the time to explain step-by-step. “Keep right on quoting regulations.”
Thanks to your video, I succeeded without any difficulty. Thank you so much for the good information, detailed explanation, and even the logo file. I wish you a happy new year.
It’s worth mentioning that the new partition on the new SSD will become encrypted to the motherboard, so you will need to use that partition if you change the SSD in the future, not the original.
So every time you insert a new SDD and install the OSU1, you have to copy again that special partition, also regarding the USB cable to read Xbox SDD doesn't it have to be a special one, I mean a specific type for sdd?
Seems i bricked mine due to that, since it didnt push the install successfully, looking it as it doesnt want to install to my 2TB ssd and put protections in place.. I Reinstall the original RAW without backup to the recent. Now no Boot.
Regardless of the OSU1 update status, Always Backup your Recent RAW partition where OSU1 has run. Dont be the next one to Brick the Xbox
@@reggiebusaing7535 in this case, is it no output at all on TV display? I just try to repair 2nd Series X which seem on then off immediately, but when i take the SSD, it seem take longer on "with fan running" then off.
Woah that's insane they really don't want you fixing the nvme drive. Why wouldn't they just make it so if it detects a blank drive, it encrypts it on first boot with new drive then asks for offline update???
How crazy to pair everything I can understand the boards but not the nvme drive... Really the console will have a very short life cycle with no way to repair.
Is this method still works?
As a former ATM technician I'm pretty sure I know what you have in the RAW partition, It's 1 part of a multi part encryption key, The other part or parts will be burned into chips on the board not the SSD, This is how manufacturers prevent aftermarket parts, It's also how some car keys anti-theft systems work, When the unit is manufactured a unique key is placed both on the main board and in the SSD, The reason it's in a raw format is because most software won't be able to see it, When the system boots it reads that RAW partition checks the key against the key built into the main board, If they match it allows the system to boot, and potentially allows files on the hard drive to be encrypted so that they can only be read on the system with the matching SSD and main board.
This could be simply for booting or it could be used for encrypting the contents of the storage so that it can only be read in the system that it was designed to match.
One question, why didn't you simply image the entire drive and all partitions to make an exact match of the original?
It would depend on the size and time because copying over ~900 gb of files would take time and storage, but yeah you would then not have to re-install all the games.
I’d guess because the original SSD wasn’t allowing the console to boot he assumed other parts were maybe corrupted and thought rebuild would be better
When you do a video and you are clearly a professional the best is to use a registered version of all product that you use in it like Macrium reflect :-)
What typ of SSD did u use for the replacement? One from another Series X or a 3rd party?
Thats would be important info.
@@syhi7971he says in video around 10:30
a couple o my thoughts on this:
1) that RAW partition is a ESP partition containing an custom EFI bootloader, encrypted by unique key stored in to ROM embedded inside SoC's die. without it your XBOX turns in to brick cause you can't sideload anything unless you have access to factory tools. technically cracking that key will allow installing linux or even desktop windows lol.
2) i think there is a possibility to attach an 2230 m.2 nvme cable extender and fit inside an 2280 gen4 drive (if there is not any kind of vendor whitelist in the place ofc). also there is a chance to enable all 4 PCIE lanes in order to get full gen4 speeds. it can be done by re-routing those 2 PCIE lanes from the expansion port to m.2 slot (4 wires total).
I have just confirmed working upgrading a series S 512gb (CH SN530) SSD to a 1tb (XA1-311024) SSD from a series X. I backed-up and restored the RAW partition using macrium reflect. Booted to trouble shooter mode (hold sync press power button. Release sync after 2nd beep). Installed the offline update. Booted to the xbox menu and BAM....802gb internal storage.
Does this actually work? Was looking at this video for this exact reason.. I want to upgrade my internal series a ssd from 512 to 1tb but I’m not sure if ms allows that through software watchdog or whatnot😁
Tried imaging the RAW partition to a 2TB SN740 ssd,
Xbox Series X powered-on and was able to perform Offline update however on the 3rd part of the update system went to error E109.
This error code is not found on microsoft.
Seems they put controls to prevent us to install 2TB internal ssd
Did you ever end up getting it to work? How did you even get your hands on a sn740? And why not just clone the entire partition grom the old one onto the new one and just make a couple size adjustments?
I tried but now on the update I get Error 100, step 3. What did I do wrong or is it something else?
If you have to put the boot animation on there manually then shouldn't that mean you could possibly make your own custom boot animations?
Theoretically you could but as soon as any update it comes back
You got a like and a subscription for this and thank you.
Hi. Great video!
Did you try to put a 1tb ssd into a xbox series s?
Dude!, I think you just saved my xbox, mine died in strange ways, I just need to check if that partition is alive, I think I can hook it up to my PC m.2 slot and test, if it works, I need to import (I live outside the US) the SSD and the m.2 reader, so I can do this and have my xbox back, love you!
I have a new Series S coming and I watched your video (Thank You!) I am wondering if a person should backup that SSB and keep a copy somewhere incase the internal ssd died some day.
That´s the first thing that came to me, i guess that all xbox users should have a copy of that partition for any future replacement, other way it´s gonna be impossible
Man can I store these data on pc? I am very noob and come into realization just recently how fucked up it would be if my ssd dies on me.
Can you make a similar video of increasing the ssd size? Like see if you can upgrade it to 2tb or even 4-8tb? What's the limits?
The raw partition contains the drive keys, bitlocker key, Hypervisor and Hypervisor key, Console check sum keys, Keys and serial number validator.
Just came across this. I have the 2tb xbox expansion card on order, will try swapping the internal SSD out with it. Thanks for your hard work!
Do this and you'll get banned for sure. Do it only when MS release an Xbox Series with a 4TB SSD.
I doubt it. Just changing hard drive size never affected it with the one x. I doubt they’d make a big deal of it on the series x
Oh, as an addendum to my first comment. The expansion card doesn’t use an m.2 connection, so it physically won’t connect. At the moment, nobody makes a 2tb 2230 m.2 drive, so it can’t even be attempted
@@vntsupra1238 your response doesn't have much value when you say that it never affected it when changing it to One X.
There was some numbers in the first messages, those numbers can make the difference between getting banned or not.
Then show me someone who was banned just for upgrading their hard drive size. If you cannot, then your comments have no value.
A little late to the party, as the smart data shows the disk to be healthy, can you simply backup the raw partition, clean the disk, restore the raw partition like you did to the new drive and the use the recovery USB. Also outlining a "backup" process for anyone already tearing down their xbox in case the ssd fails beyond recovery might be a good idea.
i have the same idea as you, but i dont know if it's possible or not, my xbox series s has the same issue as above and i will try to just backup the raw partition and clean the ssd and restore it again after and see if it works
@@Pcgamer20Blogspotany luck with this?
So any 2230 NVMe will work as long as the raw partition is copied right? Even gen 3 drives?
Thank you for your content. This helped me a bit. Still not working like it should. Trying to upgrade my Series S to 1TB internal storage. Now it won’t boot on both drives. And the three hours of time I got after work won’t help either.
It won’t work bcos Microsoft will also definitely put a software watchdog to make sure Series S stays 512Gb, whereas Series X stays 1Tb. That being said, I think u can use it as external storage buying those 3rd party enclosures since it’s definitely hard coded to read xtrnl memory of 512, 1Tb, and 2Tb
For anyone that successfully replaces their SSD if you do not wish to take the system back apart to install the animation file, or can't find it or can't download it for whatever reason LOL: It is no big deal the Animation file will be installed automatically on the next system update form Xbox.
I was told, someone other than me had figured this out and they sent me a link to see. [Not Bad] I do it a little differently and do not need to do all the other steps and the ins and outs Sorry I do not have time to make a video on how I do it I have been so busy with repairs.
Nice work doing the same this end, not posted video as yet but looking into reading the mem directly.. good job
What nvme reader adaptor are you using
Cheers dude, Great video
Excellent research for this issues.. Awesome solution.. If it's possible can you try to find out the 1gb partition contain and how the method works for recognize the identification of the specific console?
Really great jom 🎉
Probably a good idea to take apart my wifes series s and my series x to just dump the ssd before failure correct?
Great work. In my case I cloned the faulty drive to a new drive using a simple acasis hardware tool and deleted all but the raw partition using the regular windows drive tools. No need to use the downloaded tool to back up an image.
you got it up and running just like that?
@R3Dl0l yeah but the new drive was the same size as the old one. If you want a larger hard drive you need to use a software tool like the video mentions and back up the raw partition and put it onto the new drive. Then run the usb update.
@@KyleSand how can i run the usb update when the console refuses to boot, is there a way to do it from windows?
What ssd did you buy?
@R3Dl0l no you might have another issue if won't boot to safe mode (hold pairing button while turning it on)
Gracias, me fue de gran ayuda tu video y recursos.
Tengo una serie s y el disco fallo , hice los pasos pero no funciona , será que funciona con cuál quiere SSD 2230?
I know it's been a year since ya made this video, Kudos to ya, thank you... have ya had any luck in hooking up with anyone that can help ya work on the Raw Partition and get it figured out?
I wanna see Xbox Series S upgrade 512GB to 1TB or more 😄
Thanks this video helped me 🙌
It’s cool seein a black dude doin this shit. Shoutout destroying stereotypes and conventions
After upgrading my one x to an ssd the animation was eventually restored after the console was updated. I imagine the xbox series would be the same since the steps following the installation of OSU1 are the same for the one x.
Love the content!!!
Hey tha ks for this video I have been looking everywhere!! I appreciate all ur help I was wondering do I have to use a 1tb or can I use 512 gb or even a 256 gb SSD does it matter
you can use 512
Probably a security thing to stop hackers.
Hello, nice vid. It is possible to install software on brand new SSD? My SSD is broke that PC not recognize it. :/ Thanks for help.
Yes love upgrade my Xbox S-Series with 2TB or 4tb internal drive it would be amazing if I could do that or should I pay you to do that
thanks imma throw my attempt at getting this clients xbox series s up and running again. I was able to use seagate ec-snve to access the drive and proceeded to wipe it with disk part cause im a dumb ass. Will update my result on this later
Taking all this into account would it be possible to upgrade the Series S SSD from 512gb to the 1tb SSD
I am not sure if the X and the S are different, but I have a Series S, tried upgrading to a 1TB SSD and I used the same program as you did, and I tried 2 different wats, I tried by just copying that Raw section as well as a complete clone of the old SSD, and when I turned on the system, the power light blinked 2-3 times and just powered down. I had to go back to the original. I believe I got the right SSD, its a Sabrent PCIe4 M.2 2230. If you are still around and see this, maybe you can let Me know what I did wrong...
You would have to use an ssd from a series x as there must be a firmware check on the ssd.
Amazing video
Thanks to your video! Can you help me? I'm trying to read the SSD of my series s but there's no disk information when I plug to the pc. Can be my ssd nvme adaptor the problem?
At least you can replace sdd on a Xbox system, imagine a ps5 which is soldered to the motherboard, if it has similar security key how can u write it to a pcb sdd? And if you make a mistake have to resolder again the sdd, fix the issue, and solder again, no way.
Huh? 🤣
Bom esse vídeo em 👍
@@boricuajr84 i understood him just fine lol
you should be able to use a larger drive with a NVME extender
I know this video is old but TronicsFix had a video successfully replacing the SSD months before this video. 😂 Still extremely useful!
You laugh but all tronix did was put both drives in an autocloner to clone the entire drive over, while what this guy did is he found the precise part that needs to be copied only. Stay laughing thinking it's the same thing.
Can u use any 2230 ssd or it have to be specifically same as was before in Xbox? I’m trying to find same one online but I can’t find any :)
so can i replace my Xbox series s nvme with a 1tb and copy all partition like you did
does it work?
please 🙏 answer
Just found this video. What are my options if the internal ssd has completely failed and isn’t able to be read by a PC?
Probably SOL at that point since you can't create an image of the drive to copy everything over to the new drive
If I have an Xbox Series X that is continually crashing to dashboard, does that imply a SSD failure or a power supply failure?
Is there a way to definitively know for sure?
can you use a M Key Riser Extender R44SF 4.0 and trim it to fit the 2230 socket and route it below the Blu-ray drive or somewhere else
Have you tried drives from series X consoles with the same manufacture date? I have an series X that I got second hand with no internal SSD. MFR Date 04-May-2021 prod id: 14834321003607211917. I am more then willing to try out different RAW partitions to see if any of them work on my console. I bought a 512MB 2230 just to see if I can get it working before I spend the $$ on a 1TB one.
same here, i have an xbox series x with no disk, did u find any solutions?
me too, any new solutions?
@@joeljuarez5720 My xbox was still under warranty, so I bought an official drive off of ebay and sent my xbox in for repair.
They sent me a replacement unit.
Boot animation only shows up in Restart Console and/or unplug the power and plug back in than turn on. It doesn't show through Turn off Console and turn back on
Can you upgrade for a bigger 2tb ssd?
My console starts up, and shows Xbox logo on Black screen, then sits there and does NOTHING. Then it'll start to"search for update" and then does NOTHING, until it says it CAN'T... going an offline update DOES NOT HELP. I checked the m.2 health and it shows ALL partitions are HEALTHY.. wtf is wrong with this thing? 🤔
So I am having error 200 and I can't get my console to update. I have tried the complete process listed on the Microsoft website.
No luck am I best off replacing the SSD
Something I'm curious about I saw a video where someone made an external hard drive with an SSD 2230, he was at the time successfully able to take a brand new SSD hard drive and have it formatted to his series S Console, what I'm wondering is in order just to get some of the partitions on a new hard drive can we take that hard drive formatted as an external then go in and add the raw files from there , not sure if anyone has tried this. Basically I'm just trying to get the console to recognize the drive usually when it does that partitions are added
All well and good if the original SSD is readable.
If it's not readable then you have absolutely no way of transferring the partition with the key from one drive to another.
A bricked useless console because of a simple SSD failure.
Microsoft should be held accountable for this!
The Boot Animation link is down. Could you post another link? Many Thanks.
Hi mate need your help im just starting on on the next gen consoles avoiding the ps5 but i have an xbox series x that power on for about 5 secs then off but when i took the ssd out it stayed on longer, i have now replaced the ssd with the raw partition and now its doing the 5 sec thing but after a couple of times the console now stays on fan spinning the lot but no display and when i press the power button it just switches off so i know its not a display issue
If the ssd of the Xbox series x is damaged and I can't make a copy of the boot loader to a new ssd, does that mean that I won't be able to use my Xbox anymore? Because I already changed the ssd for a new one but it doesn't turn on the Xbox. Only the ignition light turns on for three seconds and then it turns off
I had two Xbox for repair series x one of them was done properly and working the other one I had deleted partition accidently... But I didn't format the drive can I recover or is there any way
Please let me know and help me
I have the exact same problem as the customer and the console was working fine yesterday. Any help? I get e 101 and when i try to do the offline update with a usb it stays a 0% and fails. Also shows no signal until I wait 10 minutes. Please help any solution?

When I put my xbox ssd it says unallocated space and rhere are no partitions, however after a third party software I am able to view data there, it is not in a partition but there is RAW file. How doI go from here? Do I create just 1 partition of 1024 megabytes and copy the files? Will that work?
how do i contact you for questions regarding this, i seem to be having issues when powering up after everything is done

I thought you couldnt change the SSD as it was paired with the console
May I change the 512GB to 1TB into Series S?
Maybe there's a possibility but there's also a big chance MS will ban as soon as you go online.
What if do this method on a brand new xbox series s after buying and not turning on for the first time? I don't want to spend 220$ on Microsoft Seagate Storage and I don't care about warranty
@@ryutenmen How are they going to read that as a ban? It’s not an RGH or trainer mod. They are retarded to not give the user free access to upgrade their device. You can replace the PS5 and 4 Hard drives. Just a money grab with these corporations.
@@MirzaKhalid you sell it, and buy a computer. Looks like the idiots are going the Apple route, blocking all third party upgrades.

What about an HD duplicator. Where it uses no pc, and it does a bit by bit clone
So from the comments it's pointless backing up the drive as every update changes the encryption so if you had a backup from a year ago and you reapplied that to the existing drive that had a few updates since you've bricked your console?
Amazes me the lengths Microsoft went to so no one can do anything... Guess they don't realise if you can't have fun with it you kill your own market. Nvme failure is fairly common if you use it a lot and games consoles will really make it work hard. Funny because people will probably go oh well I'll buy a ps5 maybe that will let me replace my own drive.

Does not boot at all
It's because after every update that partition key changes, so even if you have a older backup you cannot use that as the key already has changed. If you were able to back up the latest one it would have worked.

Bro that sucks, but yeah the ssd is just a regular SSD the partition is the important one.
I have xbox series x without drive. Is there a new method to fix it?Can u write down some modding forums here?
Long time since your post (and I wont reply in Ruskie), The drive contains an XBFS partition with all the encryption files (which are encrypted as well) and those keys are for YOUR XBOX ONLY. If those files do not exist, or are from ANOTHER Xbox, your device is a door stop.
