"I don't want to have to wait 30 min to come up with a good joke". Pure Gold!
😂 I mean I’m not that funny soooo…
@@MattHernandez I'm in the same boat. Lol
Great to see you back on RUclips Matt! Love your work.
Thank you! Glad to be back. I’m excited.
Nice job Matt! I've been waiting for these. Looking forward to seeing what you produce!
Thanks brother! I’m excited to get my content on track.
Yeah! Matt’s back!!!!
Indeed I am 😂
Thanks for the video Matt!
You’re welcome!
Love your training style complete but not boring
Thank you!
Glad you are getting back into RUclips!
Thank you!
Outstanding Matt! Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I have the FJ400s with the throws. They are fantastic! I have soccer sessions coming this weekend and this was timely for me! Looking forward to the next one!
Awesome thank you for taking the time to say that!
Great info with poses and number of shots. I never thought of that way with full, mid and close. Thank you very much.
Glad it was helpful!
Been following for ages! Glad you are back!
Awesome! Thank you!
Awesome Matt! Love using my 70-200 - makes my bag lighter when I carry less lenses!
I agree!
Thank you 😃
love your videos! Keep them coming!
Thank you! Don’t worry I will 😃
Nice work Matt!
Thanks!
Good job my friend.. looking for more content.
Thank you!
A few questions! How far back were the lights! Also what were the light settings at?
Thanks great video! Wish you were my teacher 😊
Just enough to be out of frame. Not sure if an exact distance. I honestly don’t remember but I usually start at full power when I’m outside and adjust the power from there!
Can you explain how and what fill light is and if the settings are different between both strobes? This video is great!
Fill light fills in the shadows so they get a smaller amount of light but you see some detail rather than being so dark. Yes you’d have your settings lower than the main light depending on how bright you want it.
Cool process, surreal dramatic images! Have you considered placing a reflector on the ground close to your model to reflect more light to the body
Sure you could do that if you want!
Thank you so much!
Love the videos Matt! Question How big of a difference would it be to use a beauty dish and a deep reflector vs the two deep ref?
The beauty dish would be softer for sure. I just forgot mine on this shoot haha.
@@MattHernandez That F9 caught me off guard. I have never gone that high. Going to try once this storm clears.
I only did that because I had to with the deep focus reflectors. I forgot my beauty dish 😂
Do you always use two strobe lights on every shoot? Do you use just know if you are just getting started. Also what lens are you using during your sessions?
Yes I do always use lights. I might mix in natural light but the majority usually has strobes. Starting out just get what you can afford! Even if you have to shoot natural light that’s still a good thing to learn.
What was your ratio between main light and fill light? I have a deep focus reflector, very impressive modifier. Thank you for posting on RUclips. Just subscribed to your channel.
I don’t have an actual ratio, I just eyeball it and go with what I think looks good. Just don’t use too much full or it will get flat.
Obsessed with your videos. Question for you: I struggle with exposing for the sky and then adding off camera flash. I seem to always get grainy photos when I try this technique.. help?!
If you’re getting grain you just be using a higher ISO. Try exposing using your cameras native or base iso!
Awesome
Thanks!
Do your deep focus reflectors stack on each other well for storage? None of my reflectors stack which is a pain. I was playing around with normal 7” reflectors and was surprised to find out my octa softboxes with no diffusion was like half a stop to a full stop more powerful. I probably need to play with distances more was probably 8 ft away. It’s kind of a pain to test but think I need to pull the trigger on some deep focus for daytime shots. Been trying to play with compositing shots off of our trampoline and even with 2 600s was struggling getting enough light during the day from the distance. I think the focus could probably help dramatically.
Yes you need some deep focus reflectors for sure! That’s the best way to overpower harsh daylight outside.
They do stack well too
For the lighting will godox v1 work well in outdoor harsh sunlight ?
Your videos are very helpful for me learning flash
Probably not if you have just one. They are only 76Ws.
Thank you that’s awesome! I appreciate the support.
Do you aim for 150-200 shots in total to give to the client or is that how many shots you usually end up with before you edit?
It depends honestly. I usually take anywhere between 150 and 400 and deliver a minimum of 80.
Do you ever shoot your posed shots HSS?
Yes I do! Depends on the situation and if I want to mess with putting my ND filter on or not.
@@MattHernandez gotcha, thank you! These tutorials are great, keep up the good work!
What do u get if u only have 1 light?
I think the second frame at 6:34 has only one light. The shadows would just be darker without the second light, which was just a fill light to add in detail in the shadows
This is not a dig, but gosh we think alike!! 😀 Is it the ADHD, I'm serious, because I think it helps me shooting! Reply with a laugh if you can!?!?!
😂😂😂
I felt like a better background would’ve been the field. I looked at your website and you have some phenomenal photos! Just wondering if these how to videos is just informational compared to your actual work. Thanks.
I always take shots I would on a normal shoot in my videos. Not everything is going to be a portfolio piece, so keep that in mind. I always use the stands as well as the field for soccer photos. Thanks for watching and the feedback!
@@MattHernandezgeneral question, have you tried shooting inside a pop up tent to control lighting during the day? I suppose you could think of it as mobile studio. Use some black backgrounds, fog and props etc. It was just a thought I had in case weather and lighting wasn't favorable.
I'm sure he would add the field in a normal full shoot. However, I really like the choice of the stands. If you are trying to go for a very masculine feel with a bit of attitude, the dark gun metal grey stands help achieve this. The field is important to capture, but it's very on the nose. The stands subtly communicate intensity and grit. Also, the subject is not competing with the green color of the field. The dark neutral stands allow the subject to pop and be the focus.
Damn its so humid feel tge humidity thru the screen 😫 sucks for you.
Yeah I’m not a fan but it is what it is haha
So much effort, and such a bad result. Hard light gives harsh shadows, the model looks much worse.
Yeah I explained why I had to use hard light in the video, but that also wasn’t the point of the video 🤣. Shooting tight, middle, wide to maximize your time was the point. I have plenty of other videos using softer lighting though. Thanks for watching!
@@MattHernandez Frankly, I did not listen, I only watched the video, and in parts. And in my opinion, this work is done poorly.
Oh ok that makes total sense, thank you for explaining! If you had listened you’d have known that the point of this video wasn’t a lesson on why soft lighting is more flattering than hard lighting, it was on posing and shooting efficiently. That being said…I personally thought that, having no option but hard light because I left my softer modifiers at the studio (as I stated in the video), I lit it pretty well with what I did have (hard modifiers). Which I think is a good lesson in itself: making the best of what you have because every situation isn’t perfect. However, I’m always trying to improve my skills and find ways to get better, so I’m definitely open to constructive criticism from anyone I can learn from. I’d love to hear your thoughts on what I could have done to make it better. Do you have any examples of your work you could show me for reference? Thanks for the help in advance!
@@Strravaganza these are athletes not super models. Every portrait doesn't need soft lighting for a nice glamor effect lol. Hard light fit perfectly for this sport oriented shoot for a male.
@@ks_portraits If you want to inflict emotional trauma on the model by emphasizing his problem skin - then of course!
