This is great! I, literally, just ordered the Manny Ortiz Beauty Dish after going back and forth between it and the Joel Grimes 24" version. I can see myself getting the Joel Grimes sometime in the future.

I used the Joel Grimes for a long time before I got the Manny Ortiz. I still love the Grimes dish, but the Ortiz is probably my favorite modifier of all time now.

Personally I would send it back and get the Glow ParaSnap as is provides the same quality of light but the set up times are 500 x faster. Lets say you have a main light and a rim light setup, with the Manny its 5 full minutes per softbox, thats 10 minutes setting up. with the parasnap its literally 10 seconds. 5 seconds per softbox. I am not joking, check it out. Plus moving from one location to another is far easier.

@@TheSunnySuttons thanks for the feedback! However, I think you might be confused about the modifier…the Manny Ortiz, as well as all the modifiers in the Westcott Rapid Box series, pops right out very similar to an umbrella (without the rod). It takes just a few seconds from the time you take it out of the case to fully assemble it. I looked up the Glow Para Snap you mentioned as I was unfamiliar with it, and it looks like it might include another step to fold out the speed ring. Even if that’s not the case, it’s not really possible to beat the set up time of the Ortiz. Thanks again for watching and giving feedback!

Honestly it depends on the situation. If I had to pick only one, I’d go with the Ortiz. No, the shadows don’t bother me, but they are tricky to deal with sometimes!

Your video are really good learning tools. Question: Looking at how close the light with the zoom modifier was to the subject, given that this particular modifier can generates a lot of light, why did you set the light to full power? And was the final image shot at full power? Thanks

@@MattHernandez another video that I would love to see is how you handle white balance on a partially cloudy day - where the sun keeps popping out. It seems like as soon as you get the white balance set, the sun goes behind a cloud, or vise versa.

Using the sun as a rim light gives a harsh shadow fall off from light to dark so using a small modifier like the 9" long throw reflector as a main light which also gives off harsh shadow fall off makes the most sense to me.
Having harsh shadow constast from the sun and a soft shadow modifier as a main light just looks a bit off in my opinion especially for sportraits.
thanks for doing the conparison. 👍
As you shoot a lot of location work, i would highly recommend you invest in Adorama Glow ParaSnap range as is provides the same quality of light as the Manny but the set up times are 500 x faster. Lets say you have a main light and a rim light setup, with the Manny its a 5 full minute per softbox, that's a 10 minute set up time which isnt long but every day it becomes a chore especially when its not neccessary. With the parasnap its literally 10 seconds. 5 seconds per softbox. I am not joking, check it out. Plus moving from one location to another is far easier.
