Me too❤, I am new to Elder Scrolls lore, but I am missing a lot about the daedra and how they feel, view the world, who they were and what they plan for mortals
I always had this feeling, that Hircine is kind of an "outside protactor" of Nirn, but not as an all out to save and defend it from any kind of harm, his a somewhat hard hearted gurdian, he thinks that mortals (sentinent and non-sentients alike) needs to be tough enough to survive on their own against those (daedras), that wants to dominate, alterate them beyond recognition. Hircine is a harsh mentor, but he favors no one, he does not pick a side of any mortals by anyway, "prove yourself", that's his wisdom and it says a lot of him. Also, his sad and tragic story just gives so much about his inner feelings and thoughts, his understanding and recognition of that his not on the "godly" level to be part of creation, but rether than become bitter of it, he would be a guardian of it, even if it means, that most of mortals sees him as a somewhat barbaric, feral god spirit, gives me a view of a person, hwo accepts the harder path for himself, to make sure, what he cares for will remain, even if it sees him - most of the time - as something harsh.
It does make sense, especially in the context of the Great Hunt. He chose the strongest people in Solstheim and set them free on a huge maze to see if they were ready to survive an attack of a similar force of a Daedra Invasion. The only one who won was the Nerevarine, meaning that there was someone to protect the world from any problems.
Theory: During the Dawn War, Hircine was a follower of Lorkhan alongside Kyne and the Wandering Ehlnofey against Auri-El and the Old Ehlnofey. After the death of Lorkhan, there was a schism between the Wandering Ehlnofey with the proto-Nedes going to the Reach with Hircine and the proto-Nords going to Atmora with Kyne. Evidence: *In Khajii tales, Hircine allies himself with Khenarthi (alongside Azurah) to slay the elven god Y'ffer. *Both the Nords and Reachmen consider themselves followers of Shor/Lorkh -- even if they don't acknowledge one another. *The Skyforge of the Hawk (Kyne) and the Underforge of Hircine share an ancient site that the descendents of Old Ehlnofey feared into the Merethic era. *Kyne's chosen son is Morihaus, a man-beast. This would be strange as minotaurs have been shown to be followers of Hircine. Maybe Minotaurs have an ancient connection between both Kyne and Hircine?
This theory kinda makes the appearance of Morihaus make a bit more sense. We are told that he is Kyne's son but given no information as to who Morihaus' father is. Given that he is a "Winged Man-Bull" it would make sense if his father was Hircine, who holds the title of "The Father of Man-Beasts".
Hircine is probably my favorite Daedric Prince. I've always loved mythology and folklore surrounding the idea of the wild hunt. His connection to the reachmen, his role as father of werebeasts, and his patronage over the hag ravens. You see a lot of his themes in so many figures in different mythologies. out of all the daedra hircine has always seemed a bit... idk, out of place. he can be a bit brutal at times, sure... but ultimately he is hardly an "evil" being. ive always seen him as more of a literal incarnation of the whole circle of life thing. even with the werewolves its like he takes pity on them after their death and grants them the eternal hunt that they instinctively crave, yet tear themselves apart over in life. and some of them he even grants full control of their abilities. hircine is neither good nor evil, he just... is. he cares not for justice, nor for injustice. he isnt out to trick you the player ( ir really anyone), and doesnt demand human sacrifice or cannibalism ( which is why its so weird the reachmen do this), in fact a lot of what the hircine cults do he doesnt actually demand, which i think their actions unfairly reflects on him. as far as his whole after life schtick, being his dogs on an eternal hunt is hardly the worst afterlife i can think of... and he treats his hounds well. even the prey is fairly treated as if you manage to escape and evade ( or turn the tables and become the hunter) he respects it and leaves you be.
Glad I am not the only one that sees Hircine in a more nature based light. Hircine is the literal embodiment of the hunt and has no care in which form it takes be it literally killing something or the pursuit of something. From what I have seen from Hircine's dialogue. Hircine was the first Prince I was wanting to know more about when I was first introduced to Elder Scrolls. He didn't stand out as wanting destruction....just a lonely guy.
I believe that the Khajiiti view of the Spirits is why so many more of them have achieved Apotheosis(or Chim or whatever the right one is, lol). Think about it. How many Humans have become gods? 1, Talos. How many Elves? 1. Phinastor. How many Khajiit? 3. Rajhin, Baan Dar, Riddle'Thar.
An amazing video indeed. Hircine is a child of Anu and Padomay, just like the rest of his Et’Ada brothers and sisters. He created a planet in Oblivion called the Hunting Grounds, and birthed a race of humanoids beings born in his image called the Huntsmen. Every Et’Ada took part in the creation of Mundus, but many fled when they realised Shor, know as Lorkhan by the Elves, had intended it to be a prison for Auriel, Magnus and all of his siblings who sided with Anu’s principles. We know Shor was born in the Void, and sent by Sithis to destroy the Aedra (ancestors of Elves). By definition Hircine would not be an Aedra, as the only race who could claim genetic lineage from Hircine would be the Huntsmen from the Hunting Grounds, who look just like their lord. Every Et’Ada constitute their own race, and created their own world somewhere in the Aurbis. Lorkhan created Sovngarde, and birthed Humanity. Azura created Moonshadow, and birthed Twilights. Auriel created (the Heavens of Aetherius?) and birthed the Aldmer. Mephala created the Spiral Skein, and birthed the Spiderkiths. Therefore, what constitutes as an ancestor spirit depends on the species in question, regardless of whether they’re mortal or immoral (Man and Mer were mortal in the beginnings of the current Kalpa, but the Aldmer became mortalised by Shor’s Mundus trap, and Humanity were cursed with mortality by the Aldmer Angel of Death Xarxes). Thus, Hircine could be seen as a far distant uncle of Men and Mer. He’s not their ancestor. But he’s the brother of Auriel and Shor. Auriel is older than Hircine, as he’s the first Et’Ada and creator of time. While Shor is the youngest Et’Ada, the last child of Anu and Padomay. Overall it’s very interesting.
I've never really forgiven Hircine for trying to make me kill a unicorn in one of my first interactions with him. But this backstory really does make me feel sympathetic towards him.
Does it help to learn that apparently, supposedly, Unicorns are daedra from Hircines Realm? Which, among other things, means they can not truly die out!
Hircine seems deeply entwined with Lorkhan to me. If we go with the idea that Lorkhan made the world as a challenge, then Hircine is the literal manifestation of that challenge on some level. He is nature in it's most brutal kill or be killed form, but he also has to have nature's nurturing instincts in him. Why else does he take animal Forms and allow himself to be hunted? Why does he show affection to his followers and even spare or resurrect certain prey that has shown honor and put up a good fight.
Always love a new video about my favorite god in Tamriel! The story of Hircine's fall is certainly heartbreaking, and when you think about it it really sheds new light on the enmity between the Reachman followers of Hircine and the Breton followers of Y'ffre
It is fitting that Khaijit culture worships Hircine. Cats are fierce hunters, after all. And if their interpretation of Hircine is accurate, then I have a new respect for him, also.

Great vid!!! I've never thought about him in this way. Very intriguing
So atmospheric and wonderful storytelling! You have such a great voice for narration. Can’t wait to listen to more videos of the Daedra :)
As a person who hunts in real life, Hircine is by far my favorite Daedric Prince.
No one gives a fuck what you do in real life boyo.
Hunt well fellow hunter and brother
Another excellent video! Thoroughly enjoyed.
absolutely loving the new channel
Beautifully done! Will be watching for more.
Perfect video. Hope this channel will reach it's true potential
Hircine was the first Prince I was wanting to know more about when I was first introduced to Elder Scrolls. He didn't stand out as wanting destruction....just a lonely guy.
Love the work 😃
Great video drew!!
Always appreciate your lore videos Drew. You have excellent writing and your voice fits perfectly when telling these fantasy tales!
I swear we can have a video on anything and so how the Khajit origin story will somehow get mentioned.
Great video Drew!
Hircine’s my favorite in Elder scrolls. I main a Nord Tank Hircine follower.
Always love your videos.
Im so happy I found you. FudgeMuppet and Camelworks havent made lore videos in months. This is where I belong 🧡
I could listen to stuff like this everyday for the rest of my life… keep on keepin on amigo
That was awesome. Loved the perspective of having Drewmora being a character in TES learning this stuff.
Story to hear Beauty, tragic I always love Hircine father of Manbeasts
Ayo i turned into a werewolf in skyrim and hircine do be pretty chill all hail the eternal hunt
You guys were like my elder scrolls tutors from the beggining. I thought there is nothing more to learn yet here you are! Keep up the amazing work!
Love Khajiit lore and my favorite daedrologist
As much as I enjoy your content based in other games/universes, I'm happy to see the daedrologist roots showing through. Great video as always!
Hirchine is a reminent of Shor
You got yourself a new subscriber, keep working bro you’ll blow up soon I’m sure of it
Glad the channel is working out great for you :p
Great Video!
I just hope you're doing well buddy. Thanks for the continued elder scrolls love!
Love that your Khajiiti lore is pre-ri'datta by default. Same tbh. Riddle'thar can suck it.
Can you do a Hircine deep dive like the later Daedra videos? He's such an interesting character.
Wow great video on Hircine
Always love a new video about my favorite god in Tamriel! The story of Hircine's fall is certainly heartbreaking, and when you think about it it really sheds new light on the enmity between the Reachman followers of Hircine and the Breton followers of Y'ffre
This story is beautiful and tragic. I love Hircine so much.
Getta get me some mountaindrew. :) great vid btw.
And my boy Drew drops another one on us! O.O I friggin love it! Lol
Fascinating and beautiful video
Hircine fumbled his shot with a girl. By far the most relatable prince
I feel that kinda pain Hercine.
Always love hearing about the daedra great work as always, Hircine was actually the first daedra lord I found
I always knew that Hircine was one of a ''Good Daedra". And I always liked him. Even before I got interested by TES lore
That was fuckin beautiful, Drew.
The description is top notch
It is fitting that Khaijit culture worships Hircine. Cats are fierce hunters, after all. And if their interpretation of Hircine is accurate, then I have a new respect for him, also.
Your videos are my miracle solution to insomnia (I don't mean that you're boring lmao, I mean this is the most soothing content out there)
*howl* all hail to lord hircine father of menbeast 🐺🐺🐺
Hircine is such a cool Daedric Prince. Easily my favorite of the bunch.
Why do i feel i can relate to this character?
