    I got a minor for going wide on figure of 8. I wasn't too wide tbh but used the yellow cone. Examiner said one foot wider and he would have failed me. He said that this is a test of slow speed steering so going a bit wide means you are not in control and letting the bike lead you.

    • @Lets-rideUk
      @Lets-rideUk  2 года назад +9

      Interesting. And wholly inconsistent. Particularly as there's no radius restriction on the opposite side of the figure of eight as there's no yellow cone there. Appreciate the feedback, thanks Muhammad. 👍

      @@Lets-rideUk This was Erith test centre. My instructor had advised me to stay within blue and yellow but if I felt I was not in control then okay to go beyond. He did mention that the test centre can sometimes take it that you are not in control.I watched all your videos and other advise and decided to go beyond yellow cone but not more than a foot (because I was struggling a little only on this exercise for some reason). The examiner was friendly and gave feedback to my instructor as well and told me that in the beginning he mentioned that this is a test of steering in low speed so making large circles was showing me that bike was leading you and not the other way. He didn't fail me so all good. Now onto Mod2 next week at Turnbridge.

    I have my Mod one in about 10 days . I’ve only ridden about 300 miles on my 125 . I started training this week and lucky to have found a good riding school. I’m on a DAS course and on day one after lunch I made the switch to the 650. I found the slalom y 8 much easier as the bike seemed more stable . I was extremely NERVOUS but all in all I Gad a great time . My U turn was also spot on . With a good tutor, who is encouraging etc etc the training is fun and rewarding . It’s all,about being at ease and relaxing . IMO, your tutor makes or breaks you .. More of this please , you seem a decent person..

    There is absolutely no doubt that I passed because of this video (having previously failed by putting my foot down in the slalom).
    Before beginning it I checked with the examiner regarding the blue and yellow being different parts and it took quiet some pushing to get him to say that I could go around the yellow during the 8 if necessary. As it happened I was able to get the 850 around without doing so but I would put it out there to people; do ask your examiner about any element that you are unsure on BEFORE you start that part of the test. Thank you Rich for making this.

When it comes to figure of 8,when I did my CBT was said to make no small nor too wide similar to the video range,always balance being in the middle. The figure 8 is the only part of the test that I really don't feel comfortable with. I do wonder whether it's because of the physical restrictions of the car park my instructors use. They also place a white cone after the final blue to restrict going beyond that point but in this video it looks like you take it quite a bit wider. Are there generally restrictions on how far past the 2nd blue cone you can go? Great content by the way!

    • @Lets-rideUk
      @Lets-rideUk  2 года назад +1

      There's no official guidance given to trainers on circle radius - we learn by watching tests and what feedback is given to pupils after the test. We've not had anyone ever fail for going too wide on the figure of eight but obviously don't take the p***! 😆 We know that some examiners can get a little twitchy about going around the 2nd yellow cone so use that as guidance for your radius - but don't make it unnecessarily hard. 👍

    Hi. What experience or knowledge do you have of folks taking the test on an all electric bike? There is no clutch and the throttle tends to be very sensitive. Can you actually take a test on an all electric bike ? I realsie that some of the techy questions would be irrelevant. Thanks

    • @Lets-rideUk
      @Lets-rideUk  3 года назад

      Hi Sylvia. We've no direct experience with electric bikes but the category of licence it will be eligible for will be dependent on power output, evidence of which will need to be supplied to the examiner on each test. It'll also only qualify you for an auto-only licence, understandably. Electric bikes can be used for test as we have seen them being used, albeit for the A1 category only, nothing more powerful so far. 👍

    • @Lets-rideUk
      @Lets-rideUk  6 месяцев назад

      I talk about this at 5:50 - just use whatever technique works for you. 👍 We don't generally use this technique with novice riders as the throttle is so responsive on the 650's you have to be extremely careful not to apply too much and overshoot a section. But if this technique works then go for it! 😊👍

    • @danieloconnor6594
      @danieloconnor6594 6 месяцев назад

      I did that on the IBT training in Ireland and the instructor ripped me for not doing it his way, tried to argue with him but didn't work. I was under the impression that it is a personal preference? I always felt that feeding the power with the clutch can be risky at high RPM's in case you slip it too much and take off suddenly.@@Lets-rideUk

    Where are riders supposed to keep their eyes and head in the slalom exercise Richard? I’ve read and heard different people say different things. If there is a trick here, I’m interested to hear it.

    • @Lets-rideUk
      @Lets-rideUk  2 года назад

      The slalom is simply focusing on the cone directly in front of you and not hitting it. The figure of eight is lots of head movement to keep the blue cone in sight.

      @@Lets-rideUk Not a good idea to ride a bike you haven’t been on before. Failed, but not that disappointed. The biting point was totally different to the bike I was used to. I’ll have to do some training on the bike to get used to that.

      Darn. 😞 Yes, not easy to go into a test "blind" when clutch control is such an important factor in this test. Next time! 👍😊

    Does it matter how wide you go in figure of 8 as long as I don't hit the cones mod 1 tomorrow 😅

    • @Lets-rideUk
      @Lets-rideUk  11 месяцев назад

      There are certainly limits, yes. You can go around the first yellow cone (the one before the blue figure of eight cones) but not the second, to give you an idea of radius.

      @@nevergiveupever1069 Might be worth driving around Salisbury beforehand, particularly the big roundabout by the test centre. Quite a challenging city - keep a careful watch on road signs and road markings! Good luck.
