    *IT DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU GO AROUND THE YELLOW CONE WHILST DOING THE FIGURE OF 8.*
    Test 3 is the Slalom, indicated by yellow cones.
    Test 4 is the Figure of 8, indicated by blue cones.
    The yellow cones are part of the previous test and can be treated as if they weren't there.
    HOWEVER
    You must NOT hit the yellow cones - this is still an instant fail.

    • @celticridertraining
      @celticridertraining 7 лет назад +12

      I know many an examiner who would disagree if they feel you went around yellow cone because of a lose of balance you fail, also why did you do slalom and figure 8 so slow ? you put your self on edge of a stall or foot down and it gives the wrong impression to would be test candidates couple mph quicker and the bike is far move agile and manoeuvrable

    • @KingLies
      @KingLies  7 лет назад +27

      Depends what bike you're riding. There is a fine balance between riding slow and riding fast on your test. A higher speed gives you more stability but you are sacrificing some turning distance if you're not super confident on that specific bike.

    • @celticridertraining
      @celticridertraining 7 лет назад +1

      we are not talking about high speed we are talking 1 or 2 mph more, nothing complicated or over thought 1 or 2 mph more is all and it will be a different bike and the rider will relax, but then apparently I know nothing so however its dressed up, power, drive, throttle, gas, accelerate, clutch, rear brake etc etc it all means the same thing. as I said on last post I commented on I know when to take a break in fact wish I had not commented at all. So well done on the pass glad you did not do it in Newport as it would have been a different result if it was seen as a balance issue ride safe bud keep it shinny side up. and the grin locked in.

    • @KingLies
      @KingLies  7 лет назад +28

      + Celtic
      "1 or 2 mph" feels like a lot to an inexperienced rider, who has enough things to concentrate on without staring at their speedo. There is no evidence that riding faster will "make the rider relax", that's just your opinion. There's no such thing as a fail for balance, unless that balance issue results in your foot hitting the floor or a test cone. Please don't comment misinformation on my video that people will read and start to worry about when it's not even an issue.
      + Gaz
      Nobody here is stating that going _so slow that you put your foot down_ is a good idea, and nobody is stating that this is a slow speed test. You need to be moving at a steady pace to retain balance and control, and going too fast will give you the same problems. I passed my test with a perfect score, but feel free to believe whatever you want. Just don't spew crap on my video.

      ***** Since posting my comment I've taken and passed by Mod1 and Mod2 tests (with no minors) and now have an unrestricted licence and a nice big bike all of my own.
      My advice, relax and enjoy it. Once I put my helmet on, i'm in my own little world.
      Also remember, the examiners are bikers and they have no quotas to hit. They just want to see that you can ride to a standard where you're not going to hurt yourself or anyone else.

      in mod 1 I went through the speed trap at 49 kph and in mod 2 I was doing 42 mph on a dual carriageway which had a speed limit of 50. so he marked me down for that.

    Just passed first time in Newport, Wales, with no minors. Guys don't be too intimidated, I was surprised how easy the test actually is. All I really had to remember is to do the lifesavers, but I was doing them almost automatically due to the test situation. If you don't understand something then you can just ask the examiner, as they are in no hurry. It really was easy, all you have to do is focus and make sure you have had a decent breakfast! Don't be too intimidated, it is not a trial by fire by any means. The examiners are wanting to pass you and the course is designed to be completely manageable by new riders as well as the bikes you will be using.

    The most nerve wracking 20 minutes of my life. Have watched this video about 20 times and was an absolute life saver. Best one on you tube! Finally passed on my 4th attempt - all fails due to nerves - riding too slowly and putting my foot down on the slalom and figure of 8. I even managed to stall the bike on my u turn but had enough inertia to coast it around. The quicker stuff was the easiest bit and so I passed with a clean sheet. MOD2 now but no worries on that front as I’ve been riding a 125 for a while and am fine on the road where any nerves won’t be quite so obvious and will settle once going. Thanks for these vids, they are a bloody Godsend!

    I honestly envy you brits, in a good way. Here a frustrated spaniard, flunked today a second time the A2 exam (mod1 equivalent) here in Spain. People who pass the exam here on their first time is just 20%, the rest is just repeating exams, waiting times (month after month), bureaucracy, and a constant money waste like a leaking tap. I see your Mod1 circuit, and at least I can see an application to real life, with examples like taking a long curve and avoiding an obstacle, emergency braking, etc. And the instructor explaining you every step, everything is pretty relaxed, how nice, really (no irony intended).
    Here in Spain, the exam takes about 1 minute total: the first (slow) circuit is around 20 seconds (extremely tight lines and cones with high bollards next to each other you can't even slightly touch) very fast acceleration and quick emergency brake in a small painted box, and the fast circuit (full of obstacles), parts where you can break and others not, has to be done in less than 25 seconds. If you make a single mistake in any of both, you're out, imagine how many people can fail in 5 minutes (8 in a row, slaughter witnessed by myself today). Nerves are so tense that a number of people fail just in the first acceleration.
    So, we just try to live with it and know that this is just a systematic waste of money on our spanish government and a good business model for driving schools (no wonder there are so many here), until you finally pass the exam and leave all that crap behind. Hey, good luck to anyone who will do the Mod 1 in UK!

    Tip for figure of 8: Ride the biting point and use the rear break to control your speed. Also, squeeze your knees together which will allow you to have more control when turning. Good luck.

    • @booshallmighty
      @booshallmighty 3 года назад +6

      Good advice, I'll add to that for those who may not understand what you mean. Don't use any throttle, most of these manoeuvres can be performed on Tik over only. Also, don't look where you are going, look to where you are heading too. If you look at where you want to go the bike will turn itself. This is vital when you you take corners at speed. If you look where you are going you will crash into whatever you are looking at. Look for the exit of the bend, no matter how bad things get. Throttle off, look for exit.

    • @vtrmcs
      @vtrmcs 3 года назад +5

      @@booshallmighty Nah mate you need some throttle, I'd say on any bike, let alone these middleweights. Slip clutch and use the back brake to control speed but maintain some throttle. If you idle the throttle you'll tip the bike. Gripping tank a little with knees is good, to a point, but the most important thing for figure 8, is to fix vision on the cone until you exit that particular turn, then move fixation to the next cone and so on. Counter steering is the proper way to engage a turn, but thats beyond scope for the test, although I've no idea why, really. There are certain advanced techniques that should be part of a riders armoury from CBT day 1, again, in my view.

    Well done. Yellow cone is insignificant during figure 8, as it's part of exercise 2, and you've completed that prior to figure 8. So long as you don't hit it, then you're fine. Only thing I'd add regarding your figure 8 is that your head doesn't turn much, hence the wobbly steering. Look where you want the bike to go, not where it is currently going. Figure 8 usually has a student with their chin on their shoulder looking round for the cones as they turn. Hope that makes sense, not being critical, a MOD 1 clean sheet is great, but the slow speed control looked a bit 'square'.

    • @danju07
      @danju07 8 лет назад +1

      I thought this, but was told by my instructor on the morning before my Mod 1 test, NOT to go around the end yellow cone, as i could be given a Minor for using it twice (as you do figure 8 two times).
      Anyway, if you approach the end blue cone close, then go out wide, you have ample space, without needing to go around the end yellow cone as well.

      If you say so. :) but there's AMPLE space to do figure 8's without being over cautious and having to use end yellow cone. That's if you trained properly.
      I just never took the risk of going round them, its not difficult.

      Your instructor is wrong. There is no "risk" in going around the yellow cone, that is for the slalom test, after which no longer apply. There's more risk in doing a tighter circle and accidentally putting your foot down.

    I'm an american watching this and I don't know why. One thing I noticed however, the test proctor seems like he is a robot of some kind. Never gave a single reaction positive or negative to any of the tests. Not even a little "perfect" or "well done" after a single test. It's like he doesn't want you to succeed. Completely different from the instructor I had in the states. Maybe I got lucky, but this dude was the nicest guy you would ever meet, he was a motorcyclist himself and was actually excited about helping people to get their license. Not that it meant he would go easy on you, but he was actually helpful at least. And please tell me that they wouldn't actually fail you for not doing that dumb little head-check in the middle of an empty parking lot. I can't stand to believe that's actually a thing.

    looking to start riding a motorbike.. how long is the process?

    • @KingLies
      @KingLies  8 лет назад +1

      +ILOVEHALOhahajk Depends on a lot of factors. Age, years riding (I'm assuming none?) and budget. I'd recommend everyone to start on a CBT so you can learn to respect the road on two wheels with no protection first. I did and don't regret it. CBT costs like £80, you can do it in a day and lasts two years. During which time you can do your lessons for a full license if you chose to. Which will only take a couple weeks if you've been riding on a CBT for a year or so.

    • @ILOVEHALOhahajk
      @ILOVEHALOhahajk 8 лет назад +1

      +KingLies ahh sweet.. well I was hoping to get it done in a fairly short time. I'm 24 but will be 25 by the time I scrape the cash together and convince my Mrs ha ha
      I saw also that you have to take another theory.

    • @KingLies
      @KingLies  8 лет назад +2

      +ILOVEHALOhahajk You have to do a motorcycle theory test. The questions are different, tyre pressure minimum depth is 1mm on a motorcycle. I think it's 1.4mm for a car, could be wrong. So yes it doesn't matter that you've done other theory tests. I put up a new video yesterday that will explain some things in more depth if you want to check it out.
