I sat my CBT a few days ago and was told to come back after having trouble with clutch control. Re-booking in a few days after I do more research. Video helped a lot, thanks!
I am planning to learn to ride motorbike. It was an interesting video. Lot to learn and just by watching your video I felt the thrill and anxiety at the same time.
Passed my CBT on the second try. Was originally afraid of the motorcycle since it was my first time riding. Passed with flying colours on the second time (Which was free). I'd recommend anyone to do a CBT! My instructors were amazing and saw that I just needed some extra time and practice on the bike.
Use to ride 30yrs ago! Mid life crisis time & a lot of MC friends. Time to get my ass back in the saddle! Very useful, test has changed but, can't wait ! Thanks great video! Much appreciated!
Just turned 40 and finally got that CBT booked in for May. I've been driving since I was 18 so hoping that counts for something as being able to ride a motorcycle is on my bucket list. Changing gears is the bit that makes me the most nervous. This video definitely help though.
This is the video that encouraged me to go on a bike, and also choose Camrider. Today I have a full motorbike license but just last year, before taking CBT, I never rode a motorcycle before.
Got mine tomorrow. Hope the instructor is as positive, reassuring and patient as this guy and that it's structured like this to slowly build you up. Cannot deal with being put under pressure and rushed whilst trying to learn.
Jim was absolutely fantastic, for all of the reasons above & more. If you want to see more of him, check out our Mod 1 video! How did your CBT go as well mate?
BikeMatters Went well thanks. Guy was good. Got cert but did it on auto as it was just too much to think about the controls and everything on a manual. Made the switch early on in the car park after we mutually agreed it would be a better way to do it. The advantage of being slightly older (37) is you tend to have more of an insight into how you learn. I knew I can take a while to get confidence in these kind of things and that I just wouldn’t have gotten it in just a few hours prior to going in the road which tbh was terrifying me and distracting me whilst learning. Glad I switched and the instructor could see that I was struggling. Happy I got the cert. and can always learn gears later. I don’t need them to start. Cheers.
@@Bangandthedirtisgone Nice one, congrats Stuart! Get the basics down with auto to focus on road safety, and then work on gears in your own time - sounds good to me. I found gears really just "click" after a while, and then it becomes second nature. Got a 125cc motorcycle sorted?
@@Bangandthedirtisgone Ah, the problem with being a taller rider is that a lot of the 125cc scooters aren't built for us (6'4" myself). I got on well with the AJS Modena & Lexmoto Diablo, but haven't had a chance to ride any of the "big dogs" ie Honda PCX & Yamaha N/Xmax 125, but those are good runners. The Vespa Piaggio group make some stunning 125 scoots as well, worth looking in to those as they are really popular. Reliability and running cost is difficult to say, I'd imagine much the same as many other 125's scoots though!
My 58yr old mate passed his CBT recently first time, said it was easy. I haven't ridden a bike in 30+ years but this looks a piece of piss. Well done for passing yours here.
I took my cbt at harleston nearly a couple of years ago now and will renew it there again in the new year. It's a better place to do the test if you are a new rider as you don't pull out of the test centre straight into busy city traffic! 125cc bikes are great fun!
Just turn up! That was a pass where I did it. I had a kid over throttle into the side of someone’s parked car when I did mine and they still passed him, didn’t even leave a note! TBF the kid was the best rider of the four of us, he just messed up that one time but still... Edit: Not a CamRider course.
Hi Thomas! Well having a driving licence will give you an advantage on your CBT, mainly the road ride section as you will know how the roads work so this will come to you more naturally. In terms of learning how to ride a bike, this you will be taught in the first half of the day! The main thing to do is to enjoy it you'll be on the road in no time 😁
How did it? I'm doing my CBT in 3 weeks time but decided to have a lesson beforehand to get a feel for the bike, which is in 2 days! I'm more excited than nervous...I think haha. Really looking forward to getting out on my own!
@@LittleSteamMrs Hi, That was a very smart thing to take a lesson before the CBT. I took a geared bike as I’m on one now instead of a twist and go. In hindsight I’d Probaly of gone on the twist and go. Getting used to the clutch and gears was pretty difficult and I stalled non stop all day on and off the roads. I honestly believed I’d be the only person not to pass their CBT. I think part of that is being on a new bike and not being used to the bite point and also being really nervous. I’ve now found the more time I’ve had on my bike the more comfortable and confident I’m becoming. I have my motorcycle theory test booked for next Thursday. 🤞 Once you’ve passed just ride within your limits follow the rules of the road and the speed limits. The false confidence is real and I’ve been off in my first 1000miles!
Booked mine. Set for 21 October. Been driving cars for about 10 years. I will buy a bike to get back into it b4 the test (I have a lot of land to ride on). Do my theory soon as I pass and get my full licence.

Glad the video could help! Having any sort of experience on the roads will be helpful though being on a moped will be somewhat different to a bicycle! Best of luck with it all!
Didnt get beyond the carpark on my cbt several months back in February . i had issues with the balancing and using the throttle combined. Im a car driver with many years experience as well as a bike rider so it was fucking frustrating that i didnt grasp it. BUT, the instructors attitude towards me did not help one bit also. Now, i answered the questions b4 the riding bout the helmets and gear to wear very well and i was the only person there to b wearing sensible safe clothing. There was others there in flimbsey trackie bottoms and flimsy trainers. No idea at all bout bike safety gear they had 🙄😂. I felt very rushed by the instructors and i also saw and heard the instructors laughing and commenting bout me in a negative manner with the other learners, i joke not. Im not gonna retake cbt, it’s completely put me of motorbikes. Its no bad thing tbh. Ive got me car which im warm in during cold dys and i dont get fucking soaked in the fucking rain. To sum up, the instructors was total wankers. I could have put them in hospital, believe me. But i kept me cool. Cars 👍. Motorbikes 😂👎
Basically everything on this CBT was done when I was 12 years old riding a push bike during my Cycling proficiency test which then set me up for a first time pass on both motorcycles and cars, of course the CPT was free!
@@BikeMatters Hi, thanks for your reply! Yes, I really want to do it, so i can buy a moped under 50cc. (I hope the CBT is for that..) If I buy a used bike, does it have to have some technical papers before I take it on the road or just the L plate is needed? Thanks!
@@justincase8901 The CBT will allow you to ride a 50cc moped / scooter on the roads as long as you are 16+. Once you have passed your CBT you will need to insure the vehicle, you can do this with Lexham Insurance who power the BikeMatters channel at www.lexhaminsurance.co.uk
Enjoy, and best of luck. Remember most people doing a CBT for a first time haven't ridden a bike before either and this training is all geared up for newbies.
I’m 16 right now, I turn 17 in September and I’m taking my cbt on the day of my birthday, only thing I’m worried about is not being able to find the right bike for me, I’m quite short and I haven’t yet found a bike where my feet reach the ground
Hi Brooke, well firstly you need to decide whether you want to learn how to ride a geared bike or a twist and go for your CBT. If you don't have a bike by the time you do your CBT there is no need to worry, the company you do your CBT with will likely provide you with a motorcycle to do your test on. In fact this may work better for you as you can try a bike out on your CBT and see how this works for you, also your instructor will be able to give you advise on the sort of bike you should look to buy! Good luck with your CBT! - Jake
Im 5”8-9 and can reach the floor comfortably on every bike I have sat on, maybe if your not able to reach the fooor and stay stable try looking st scooters because they sit slightly Lower
Ah.. Doing a CBT in a quiet village like that looks bliss.. In London there is an extra module where you're taught how to: make and emergency get away when someone comes at you with a knife, the best helmet visor to get that prevents acid being thrown in your face, how to avoid getting a parking ticket while stopped for 10 seconds at a red light, the best way to carry the six bike locks you need to secure your bike .. In an enclosed garage... Etc...
It's important to keep in mind that it isn't a test, it's training, as long as you listen to the instructor throughout the day and on the road ride you will be fine. As long as you display safe riding you'll get through it with flying colours! Make sure to let us know how you get on!
This and some of your other video's have been a real help to me Alex , my CBT is booked in a few weeks and my experience on 2 wheels is limited to a few holiday hires in the Med , so Im a bit nervous . Im planning to get a Vespa and found a CBT school that provides a scooter but looking through the official DVSA Learning to Ride booklet (which is worth the £10 ) there seems a lot to learn in a day. Rich
Hi there Richard, thanks for your kind words regarding this and a few of our other videos, we really appreciate it! As for your CBT, it's great you are looking to get on two wheels, it is definitely not something you will regret as I am sure you are aware from having ridden scooters abroad how much fun they are! Don't be concerned about your lack of experience on a scooter, the whole point of the CBT is that it is 'Compulsory Basic Training' so the instructor will go through every step of the process with you, from turning the scooter on to riding comfortably on the road - they will be with every step of the way to make sure you are safe and know what you are doing. As you have opted for a twist and go scooter, you will find that you won't spend 'as' long learning how to ride the vehicle as you won't have to learn how to shift through gears like on a Motorcycle, so this should allow you to focus more on your technique and getting to grips with the road whilst on your CBT. The best advice is to listen to everything your instructor has to say and more importantly, relax and enjoy the course! If you have any more questions please let us know! Good Luck! ~ Jake
To take the motorcycle licence in uk , I take CBT first, then I ll apply for provisional driving licences motorcycle .. and then theroy test before I can actually take the motor cycle test.. is that right ????

I'm hopefully going for my test in a couple years when I'm 18, I can't wait tbh but I hope watching these help- I mean- I've ridden a dirtbike but that's only on a small track,
Been thinking about doing a cbt for a while now this was very helpful in what to expect and look forward to taking mine and getting myself back on the road.
It sounds like your instructor wasn't too enthusiastic! It's a shame some are like that, the CBT is the first time people get to experience riding two wheels on the road (for the majority), and a good CBT can either make or break someones confidence!
@@garoabaer A lot of learning centers will provide scooters and motorcycles for you to do your test on. It's worth checking with them before you book your cbt.

It might be worth instead of outright booking a CBT again, speaking to a couple of local training schools about your experience and current confidence and see what they come back with. Thank you for posting this! I feel a lot better now. I'm in my 30's and for a while now have wanted to get my bike license so I've finally booked my CBT (in 3 weeks!) nothing like a pandemic to make you think 'you're only here once!' I had a little pang of nerves today as my bike lesson is in 2 days... I have zero experience so thought it was best to get some practise. This video has been a great help, thanks again! x
You'll do great! Glad the video could help settle some nerves!
How did you get on? Mine is in 2 days
How much practice did you have pre-test? Trying to figure out what I’ll need to book - in my 30’s too hah
@@aps-pictures9335 I'd do at least 2 practise lessons before booking the CBT otherwise you're wasting your money.

Fantastic video guys, really gives a clear indication of what to expect on the day! Going to have to get my CBT in the summer!
Did you get it done?
What is required to drive the 125cc Mopeds? Do you need a driving licence or theory test complete or you just need the CBT course complete?
I'm really interested in doing my CBT I hope I get an instructor as helpful and friendly as this guy.
You should go for it! Do some research into CBT schools near you and find the most recommended one and start looking into booking it! You won't regret it!
I sat my CBT a few days ago and was told to come back after having trouble with clutch control. Re-booking in a few days after I do more research. Video helped a lot, thanks!

Just turned 40 and finally got that CBT booked in for May. I've been driving since I was 18 so hoping that counts for something as being able to ride a motorcycle is on my bucket list. Changing gears is the bit that makes me the most nervous. This video definitely help though.
It will be the gear changing for me aswell
As a 18yo (who has never ridden a bike before),even after 4 years this video is really helpful. Thank you!
This actually made me less nervous about my CBT. Great video! Thanks for the upload! Amazing work
Hi Ada, so glad to hear our video helped to put your mind at ease!
Reliability and running cost is difficult to say, I'd imagine much the same as many other 125's scoots though!
i've got my cbt this weekend and not gonna lie was kinda worried but watching this has help so thanks!
Good job, great intro for first timers, cbt is the first basic step on a complex ladder, bikes are awesome! 🏍
Thank you! We want as many people as possible to get on bikes, so it's important people know the CBT isn't as scary as they might think.
My 58yr old mate passed his CBT recently first time, said it was easy. I haven't ridden a bike in 30+ years but this looks a piece of piss. Well done for passing yours here.
This helped out a lot

I took my cbt at harleston nearly a couple of years ago now and will renew it there again in the new year. It's a better place to do the test if you are a new rider as you don't pull out of the test centre straight into busy city traffic! 125cc bikes are great fun!
Glad to hear you get on well with Jim and the team at CAM rider Harleston - a truly great team of people.
Just turn up! That was a pass where I did it. I had a kid over throttle into the side of someone’s parked car when I did mine and they still passed him, didn’t even leave a note! TBF the kid was the best rider of the four of us, he just messed up that one time but still... Edit: Not a CamRider course.
I can’t wait once I pass my driving test I’m going to learn how to use a motorbike I’ve loved bikes since I was a kid
Going for my CBT tomorrow, feeling nervous. Have a driving licence but never been on a bike before 🤔
*how did it go
@@LittleSteamMrs Hi, That was a very smart thing to take a lesson before the CBT.
Thanks for this, I am doing mine and the end of the month and am really nervous for it, this has eased the nerves a bit.
You'll be fine mate, remember, it's not a test it's training to get you on the road - follow their instructions and you'll do great!

Brilliant, you rode past my house in this! 🤣🤣
This guy is right round the corner from mine I’ll deffo be booking with him
Basically everything on this CBT was done when I was 12 years old riding a push bike during my Cycling proficiency test which then set me up for a first time pass on both motorcycles and cars, of course the CPT was free!

I’m a girl and I read online a lot of females struggle with it, I’m 5’2
Hi Brooke, well firstly you need to decide whether you want to learn how to ride a geared bike or a twist and go for your CBT. If you don't have a bike by the time you do your CBT there is no need to worry, the company you do your CBT with will likely provide you with a motorcycle to do your test on. In fact this may work better for you as you can try a bike out on your CBT and see how this works for you, also your instructor will be able to give you advise on the sort of bike you should look to buy! Good luck with your CBT! - Jake

Ah.. Doing a CBT in a quiet village like that looks bliss.. In an enclosed garage... Etc...

CAM Rider is in Northants (Where I live, but miles away from where I am), so this was an interesting video to watch. Sometimes, I felt that it didn't go into as much depth as I would've liked, but I know that the whole duration of the video was limited, so it was a good introduction. Hopefully this will be useful for me.
Hi Leo, sorry you felt the video wasn't detailed enough in parts - this video is supposed to serve as more of a 'what to expect' on the day of the CBT and to serve as a guide of how to get through it. However, as we say to everyone, you should be fine on your CBT, the key thing to remember is to listen to the instructor and enjoy it!
@@BikeMatters Unfortunately, I had balance issues (I can't ride a bicycle, so it was really no surprise that I didn't get far). I wasn't invited to come back for the CBT course and that has devasted me.

Its been a long held dream of mine to learn how to ride a bike. However, having tried for my cbt twice and giving up due to falling off both times, although the 2nd time the bike was too small for me. (I'm over 6ft tall and whilst turning the handlebars kept hitting my knees). My confidence now is shot. I suppose its one lifes regrets that will stay with me. Hey ho!!!
Hey, that's a shame to hear! You might well find that some training schools can really help you out.
It might be worth instead of outright booking a CBT again, speaking to a couple of local training schools about your experience and current confidence and see what they come back with. There are some great instructors about and some might be happy to do a few basic lessons before a CBT to help build up your confidence if you wished to give it another try. We got on really well with Cam Rider Harleston, but I am sure there are many instructors who'll be able to help you.
Doing my cbt in a few weeks, 18 and not got a car driving license, this eased my nerves
