CBT Element D - pre-road-ride safety talk
I know this is an older vid but I’m new to the channel and I’m so thankful to find your videos! I’m a brand new rider and I needed a little more in depth help on learning how to ride more confidently. So happy to find the channel and will be using all the drills you demonstrate. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience!!!!
You are very welcome! Best of luck with it. 👍😊
Hi Ian,i just wanted to take a moment to thankyou, yesterday i passed my mod 1 and i know what seen me through, this was all your training videos wich i have watched repeatedly over the past year, just now waiting on a slot for mod2 fingers crossed, also congrats to sam, thanks again Richard will let you know how i get on.kind regards chris c.
Great job Chris! All the best with Mod 2. 👍
Congrats Sam well done!!!
Well Done Sam. Mark, the Examiner is lovely. He wants people to pass. Ride Safe. 🏍️💨💨
Congratulations 🥳 Samantha 👏👏 well done 👏. Great tuition from Richard 😉. Waiting to do my mod 2 over here on the Isle of Wight. No spaces until November here 🙄
🎉🎉🎉🏆
Congrats Sam, welcome to the club and happy riding.
Well done you worked hard and rode well. From a fellow female biker.
Great job, stay safe 🎉
Congratulations
👍👍
You will also fail if you run over the speed trap and my colleague found that out the hard way. I asked the examiner what speed I hit in the trap when I did this part to help gauge my speed for the next ones. They won't tell you unless you ask.
I failed by hitting the blue inside cone on this manoeuvre yesterday with my MOD1, otherwise a clean sheet. My advice is to make sure your foot is not pointing outwards, if it weren't for that - I wouldn't have hit it.. These things happen - bring on take 2
Good luck on the next attempt! 👍👍👍
Thanks for these uploads. They've been a great help whilst training. I decided on 8th June that i wanted to gain my full motorcycle license at the age of 42. Hadn't been on the road on a bike for 12 years or so!! Passed my mod 2 on Friday (23/8) on the 1st attempt. Also passed my theory and mod 1 first time too! Plus your CBT tips were great to refresh my mind prior to my training. Already racking up the miles. Safe travels ✌🏻😎
Many congratulations! 🥳
Passed my Mod2 at Poole 2 years ago today in Poole. I had notification on Facebook of my Pass picture. I also do lots of work out of Poole and recognise many of these roads. Great ride from Sam. Hopefully a good result for her. I also was critiqued for a lot of lifesavers. Having just passed my IAM Test, I am glad I was doing a lot of them as it’s definitely a requirement to make good rear observation. Great tuition Richard. Keep up the good work.
I was shown to crawl forward with feet on floor and creep and peep.
Certainly if the view is more obstructed (like a panel van etc) we would do that, but with good visibility it's not really required. 👍
I often watch these videos despite passing my test over a year ago now as I find them excellent refreshers.
Really loving these videos, I'm trying to build up confidence to take my DAS course. Love your style of teaching, clear and calm. I'm struggling with dual carriageway ways at the moment. Can't wait to see the outcome for Sam 😊
Got my mod 2 next week , received no training from the school I have used . 5 hours before my test is ample practise time they recon 😢
Best of luck. 👍🤞
No chance of passing with just 5 hours training before it surely ? @@Lets-rideUk
Not ideal but perfectly doable, particularly if you have road experience as a car driver. Ride safely, interact safely with other road users, make progress and remember the critical life savers and you might surprise yourself! 👍👍👍
@@Lets-rideUkbeen driving a car for 17 years and a 125cc since before COVID but took the plunge this year and done the theory and mod 1 . I'll know Thursday :) I'll return with an update
I’d have asked for my money back. You pay for training, you expect training. Best of luck though.
Enjoying the content - Would love to see a video on slow clutch control especially on junctions with a hill, i came undone recently and ended up on my bottom after the bike bucked me off guess that is why they call it horse power :) But my mistake was holding onto the rear brake, too much revs and letting out the clutch too fast. Would like to see it detailed in video form though
Our video on hill starts ( ruclips.net/video/zKyUWHjQVUY/видео.html ) may be able to help initially, but a video on hill starts on junctions not a bad idea at all. 😊👍
Thankyou Richard -for the invaluable videos that helped me obtain my full motorcycle licence last week, 36 years after riding my Yamaha FS1E around Poole 🙂
Glad to help! Many congratulations. 🥳
As your doing the shoulder check to turn right before turning you see some moped overtake you. Do you counter steer quickly to the left? Also on mod 2 are you allowed to filter in stop traffic? At 20:46 that junction with the blue car trying to push into your lane they do that to me when im positioning to the far left. Me personally I beep my horn lol
Hi Steve. Shouldn't need to counter steer to the left as I would hope you're still riding in a straight line at that point, so not needing to take avoiding action on overtaking traffic. The problem there is you might have traffic working their way up the inside of you at that point, so just keep it straight. Yes, you can filter on the Mod 2 but it introduces a lot of variables so tend to advise against it. And do you mean the blue car in the Part 2 of Sam's training? Yes, if you don't think the car has seen you horn is definately an option. 👍
I passed my Mod 1 and 2 with Richard. Highly recommend him
Fantastic 👍👍
Richard, when ‘going round the square speed bumps’ should we be doing left/right life saver check as changing significantly our position on the road? Really getting lots from your videos, so thank you!
No, not if you're staying on your side of the road. Maybe a mirror check to the appropriate side, but lifesavers not required. 👍
Well done. She's a good student and you're a great instructor.
Thank you! Sam is a terrific pupil - a real joy to teach. 😊
I passed my mod 1 and 2 in May many thanks to your videos. They helped me a lot. Very detailed.
Many congratulations. 🎉
Thank you from Morocco
So glad for this video as didn't really learn this if I'm honest and will be the first on MOD 2 test along with hill start but both was easy tbh and passed first time 👍 Not sure how'd of got on without watching this type of videos lmao
Many congratulations! 🥳
What a great bloke! I'm 71 and I've got my CBT tomorrow: watching these vids has relaxed me greatly. Many thanks.
Great video and extremely helpful! Now I know why I keep going up into N and not 2nd! Thank you!
your videos are the best to learn haw to do cbt im doing mine very soon your videos are split short strate to the point thank you chris
You are very welcome Chris - hope it goes well!
Hi Richard, I just wanted to come here to say thank you so much for your videos. I just passed my mod2 (in Poole) today with 0 minors (third time the charm) and I have to say your videos really helped me to understand some things I didn’t have very clear or I didn’t know how to react to them out on the road. Very grateful for your channel!
You are very welcome and many congratulations! 🥳
Great set of CBT vids there Richard. Looking forward to putting this into practice tomorrow. 😊
Very informative. Great!
Very good vid.
Thanks for the videos. I watched this video yesterday went on to pass my module 1 today 🎊
Great job! Many congratulations. 🥳
Do you hate to overtake? Could you not just stay behind someone doing 10 mph under? And give yourself more time to check signs ect?
The examiner will be expecting you to overtake but you might get away with 10mph under. Probably not if it's much less.
When you come to the end of a road do you always put your left foot down and right on rear break, my instructor tells me to do this but when I'm turning right at the end of a road it feels really uncomfortable and prefer the right foot down, cheers
Either foot or even both feet is fine. We recommend left foot down right foot up as it's easier for hill starts with the rear brake, but if you're on a level surface or can do hill starts with the front brake then it's no drama. 👍
THESE VIDEOS ARE GREAT !!!!
Only got 1 mirror 😂
If all instructors were this good game changer Shame you don’t cover Watford
This help me pass mod 2 thanks
Congratulations 🎉
When I did my car driving test like 15 years ago, the examiner gave me my one and only mark because I had indicated when there were cars coming... 🤦🏽♂️ Like why would I indicate if there's nobody behind me then?
I think the logic is, that you indicate and pull out. If you indicate when cars are approaching from behind, they might slow/stop - which is not something you want to be happening. But, I understand what you're saying!
Do you not need a left lifesaver before stopping on the left?
Nope. 👍
Thank you for these videos Richard, passed my Mod 1 and Mod 2 today thanks to your videos, very informative and helpful 😃🤩
You are very welcome and many congratulations. 🥳
How far apart are the cones thanks

Glad I found your videos. You're a great teacher.
Very kind, thank you. 👍😊
Ive been riding a 125cc for just over 2 years now and am considering doing a full bike test as the price of CBT keeps rising....im 44, so id do the full bike test i think, might not get a different bike though as the 125cc is cheap and cheerful its just a toy i play with here and there, i have a nice car that i drive daily, the bike is purely for a bit of fun. These look pretty much like the CBT...the 650cc are obviously heavier, but by how much? My 125 is about 150kg, do you have an idea of how heavy the bike you do this on is? I can move mine pretty easily, just worried that the extra weight would mess me up
The big bikes we use are around 200kgs and virtually all pupils find them easier to ride than the 125's as it happens! Nothing to worry about. 👍
All those examples of where not to park can all be seen by a walk around any area where Ubers are present
