Completely agree, James is so cool, I've been watching avgn since the beginning of his RUclips uploads and I just love James, he's one of the best content creators on this site
I wonder how often James had to go "Hey, hey honey, I know you're having fun, but can you keep it down for a bit? Daddy has to take a dump on a shitty game and record it for the Internet."
Always respected James, but this made me respect him as an imaginative filmmaker even more than before, cause it made me realise how little games like Desert Bus and Big Rigs really gave him to work with, and he still managed to make pretty long and funny episodes out of them. Seriously, give me a game like Desert Bus and I'd find it difficult to come up with anything to say about it, apart from a few obvious things, and I'd like to think I have a pretty vivid imagination.
This guy is a legend. I still remember back in 2007, I was doing nightshifts in Microsoft, back in Argentina, and I came across to one of his Angry Nerd (at the time Angry Nintendo Nerd, early RUclips days) videos and loved it. So bloody funny. And the good thing it's that they got even better (Tiger Games is one of my favourite episodes) Can't believe it's most 10 years now. I am not much into his videos playing video games with the other bloke but I do like his videos a about films (Mario, Ghostbusters, etc), video clubs specials and such. Glad he is still doing quality stuff. Hope to see more AVGN videos to come though! And go easy on the Sega 32x and Sega CD, plz. I had them (and still do) both x) Loved my Sega CD when I was a kid, hated all the chords!
@DylanG0125 Incorrect, Macs are generally less powerful but more expensive than PCs. A 1K Mac would be 3 times less powerful than a 1K PC that you could build.
The MacOS interface is more tactile, it appeals to artistic types because they don't approach work in a sterile fashion. A machine that feels better is more important for an artist's daily workspace than a machine with better specs. Apple is not a status symbol anymore.
I think the problem James was having is try to see the reverse of it. Could you after 10 years of using a pc, all of sudden try edit on a Mac? It'd be a pain in the ass.
A face-to-face interview with James Rolfe. Legenedary. Cinemassacre has come into its own in terms of video capturing and presentation since. Great video!
***** the PC wasn't good itself but PC in general if you take care of them last for a long time, in fact it's the contrary in general apple product last like 2 weeks and a PC could last a life time
Switching between FRAPS and OBS, switching format, assuring you've got proper audio, everything is a hectic journey that you and James had gone through just so you can provide amazing content to the community who often doesn't realize the dedication to the craft you guys have. You inspired me to start work making my own channel, and for that, I thank you.
I don't know much about video editing, but by some of the silly things he said (don't have a PC, duhh what is dual booting?) I think he gave himself more work than necessary.
+protocetid That's what happens with apple users in general. I don't even know how they managed to have such a hard time with just recording stuff. There are recording tools that let you record the whole desktop, no matter what runs on it.
Mac users are inept to some aspects of working with stuff, but that doesn't mean they're stupid, just uninformed. I think it was a tough job initially, but in 2016, he's probably got it a lot more down. Plus, working on the movie also probably aided in the difficulty.
They just arent very good with computers, it's obvious from a lot of videos where they talk about modern technologies.. But it's just as easy to record a game and play with videos on a Mac as it is on a PC and Bootcamp lets you boot in windows natively to play windows games.. I mean the vast majority of the video industry uses Macs for a reason ;)
Mystic Vee Hell even in video editing alone he sounded a bit clueless, I didn't want to say so since I have little experience doing that shit. How does he not understand some of those video glitches and file formats? Odd.
Step 1: Record PC Game Footage Step 2: Put Recorded File Into an SD Card Step 3: Put SD Card Into Mac and Take File Out and Put It Into Your Mac! NOW ITS ON THE MAC! OR Step 1: Record PC Game Footage Step 2: Upload Game Footage to RUclips as Private Step 3: Download Video as MP4. (There is an option for it in the RUclips Video Manager) NOW YOU HAVE THE DOWNLOADED VIDEO FILE!
Right? While he was explaining all that, I couldn't help but wonder why they were all having such difficulty moving those files, especially Ryan who runs their website. I'm no Mac expert, but it seems like they were complicating the hell out of everything.
You guys worked your asses off in 2013 and 2014. You produced some of my favorite AVGN episodes including the AVGN games and Wish List episodes. I also love the Movie as well and have seen it 5 times already. Thanks for posting your commentary!
I think you should do a video "AVGN games- Part 2" just like you did with Bible games. It would be cool to see more fan games and see what the nerd thinks about them.
James and mike, you two are EASILY my favourite personalities on the Internet or anything in general I watch. Amazing work dudes, seriously you make my day
Most people don't know anything about ESD, especially if you have no education on the subject. I once had a summer job at one of the biggest computer component retailers in my country and no one at the service center used ESD-protection.
+Bollibompa the funny thing is that even the equipment you use and the parts you install warn you about it but most people won't even bother reading and if they do, it seems they don't understand the concept. Still, it was funny to see Ryan doing that...
+Tool0GT92 Typical comment. If you had an education on the subject you would know that the damage can be impossible to quantify since we are talking about complex components. Studies show that It is almost impossible to avoid ESD without protection, you will not notice it and the damage can be long term. Your improper handling of electrical components shortens their life-span and is one of the stupidest things one can do.
If I were a movie studio I would've absolutely recruited James to come make movies with an actual budget, cast, and crew behind him. The talent and passion he has is unreal. I hope one day he has the opportunity to bring all his filmmaking ideas to the big screen.
Wow.... James has a Judas Priest's devil tuning fork tattoo. That totally threw me off guard. That's one of my favorite bands ever. These commentaries are so much fun and insightful to watch. This is what makes me respect James so much more for his hard dedication and work on his editorial skills. Great stuff, man.
What would be the point? He grew up editing on Macs. He can still browse the internet, email..etc etc and do everything a PC can do except play PC specific games.
It's all marketing. There's nothing you can do on a Mac that a PC can't do better. Anyone who's serious about editing videos should use Adobe Premiere regardless.
+Damaged7 - oh, child. there are waaay more things you can't do on a mac. that's the problem with having that kind of a closed system. sure it's convinient and easy to use. but you're missing out on so many things, both soft- and hardware; nevermind the price.

I need more videos like this, this was the most genuine piece of work I've seen on here for awhile and I loved it, that's not to say I haven't enjoyed the other recent videos but still lol
Thanks for all you do man! The work you do is amazing. I've been watching for the last couple of years now. Totally entertaining. I've been binging on NES James and Mike Mondays for a few weeks now too. Seriously, this channel is the BEST!
OK without sounding too cheezy... just want to say that I'm extremely glad to come across this channel a couple months ago... i don't know how I did, or how i haven't ever seen it. but being 39, these videos bring back the same nostalgia and pain you go through playing them now.. 2 questions - can you do a full video on Bad Dudes? i won't compare it to Contra without the guns, but I remember this being a legit good game with a great audio soundtrack.. And just curious why no sports games? thanks for the tons of videos, I'm working my way through all of them..
Hey a protip for recording your Screaming audio and NOT having the audio peak: Turn the gain on the microphone way down and the "microphone volume" in whatever recording program you use (I use Audacity) to about 50 percent instead of 100. I actually record all of my On-screen and Off-screen audio this way for my videos now and then use Normalization and Compression to bring the audio back to "normal" listening volume once I'm finished recording. Hope you guys can see this and it helps you out! Best of luck with future episodes!
I'm surprised this Ryan guy couldn't help out more. Recording game footage and converting it to usable Mac files is INCREDIBLY EASY. You guys worked way harder than you had to. I'm so glad you guys pulled a Mr. Robot with Board James. I'd just finished season 1 when that happened. I was also stoned so it was mind blowing.
Anyone else wants an episode about Prince of Persia? (I mean the original ones, if you are only familiar with the Ubisoft ones). The whole game was classic and some versions especially the DOS ones were amazing, but some of them were pure shit.
I always love how sincere and honest you are. I could honestly watch videos from you like these all day. They are so inspiring and entertaining. Keep up the good work!
the things he's describing for having to capture games on pc and transferring etc etc I could have legit got done in one day, and not even the whole day.
As James and Mike approach 1000 videos I can't help but wish for a Cinemassacre 1000 just like with the 200 and 300 milestones and the amazing videos that came from those breakthrus.
something weird I figured out is if you took the pc hard-drive and put it in an external case you could take the files from that hard drive on a mac with relative ease, but if you do that and try to take files from it on a PC for some reason it just won't work. That said you probably could have just used a regular external drive to import the files from one computer to the other.
James I love you but seriously HIRE some people. You NEED a PA an editor and camera man. I know you like having things done your way but once you get people to do the grunt work for you things will flow much easier. You might not think it but you are a pretty important guy and people will bend over backwards to do things the way you like them. If you hire people it will be less for you to do. Which means you'll be able to make more videos. More videos more money. You'll be trading 2 weeks of telling your new staff "No I usually do it this way." and eventually they will get it the way you want it. You're a bigshot, James you should start acting like one.
didn't realize you had so many issue with the video recordings. i deal with that stuff all the time so converting video and recording video directly is easy for me. try a hdmi screen capture device like live gamer pro or elgato
OBJECTION!!! In the Mega Man series Mega Man never changes color. It only shows it the game to let you know which weapon your using it at the time. Even in one of mike and james videos. Mike said that Mega Man never changes color.
It blows my mind hearing about james and mikes long attempt at recording the pc games. Just use nvidia shadowplay or radeon replay or obs and use an external hard drive. Boom problem solved easily.
That's not always possible. Also this video is about a period 10 years ago. If OBS existed back then, it wasn't widely known. Windows 10 didn't exist yet; Windows 8.1 was released during this period.
i could listen to james talk forever
Same. He's just such an interesting dude
marcus balsimo
yesss! so true. lgr has a way with words that is both cheesy and hilarious. so many punsss
Don't forget Ross Scott at Accursed Farms
Completely agree, James is so cool, I've been watching avgn since the beginning of his RUclips uploads and I just love James, he's one of the best content creators on this site
Vote James for president
I wonder how often James had to go "Hey, hey honey, I know you're having fun, but can you keep it down for a bit? Daddy has to take a dump on a shitty game and record it for the Internet."
"Can I join in too?", the daughter replies.
James: >:( Yes.. Yes you can.
Hands down one of the best youtubers on this entire website
Not to mention, one of the ones who actually invented the "youtuber" genre
And actually cares about his subscribers and is a family man even though he gets hate. He still makes sure to give an audience entertainment.
Always respected James, but this made me respect him as an imaginative filmmaker even more than before, cause it made me realise how little games like Desert Bus and Big Rigs really gave him to work with, and he still managed to make pretty long and funny episodes out of them. James' daughter has a really cool dad. : )
I wish he was my daddy
SFJR I think everyone wishes their dad had their own video game or movie.
somehow I think you two are thinking of completely different "daddies"
He's daddy material... forget I ever said that.
I just imagine her reaction seing the nerd videos when she's old enough to watch them
Is there a friendship on youtube as loving and genuine than James and Mike? Friends working together since the beginning of youtube!
Filthy Frank, iDubbbz and Maxmoefoe, although that one is more like a threesome
Mike Stoklasa and Rich Evans. Hell, everyone over at redlettermedia. I guess maybe not "loving" in a traditional sense.
Rich piana and his roids
Jirard and Alex, the Super Beard Bros! #PerfectDicks
*WHISTLE CONCERT*
_They've been working together before RUclips was a thing._

Big rigs is my favorite avgn video, it's hilarious
Plumbers don't wear ties! So many good quotes in that
That reverse has got to be one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
+Zombreon The gentleman's approach! "Upside down, fucking chicken mask"
Plumbers Don't Wear Ties was so funny that even dogs laughed at it.
Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout takes the cake for me! xD
MAC - Good for art and editing
PC - Good for everything else*
_*including art and editing_
Its also just a nicer OS.

just go argue mac vs pc elsewhere he's a contect creator not a tech enthusiast or even savvy person
I think the problem James was having is try to see the reverse of it. Could you after 10 years of using a pc, all of sudden try edit on a Mac? It'd be a pain in the ass.
have you give you props man. In the age of low-budg thoughtless vlogger crap, you've kept the indie filmmaking discipline alive.
When even James says there's too many death blocks you know it's a big problem
I just love these videos of James talking behind the scenes of everything.
You guys are just living examples of dedication-
Wow it's pretty cool hearing more about Mike and Ryan and how they contributed to everything
I love how he says 2020 on a whim. If only James knew what was in store XD
You guys work so hard on these videos. I just want to say thank you for that hard work.
Love the behind the scenes stuff James! You cater to us fans like you'd want to be catered to. Thanks so much man!
A face-to-face interview with James Rolfe. Legenedary. Cinemassacre has come into its own in terms of video capturing and presentation since. Great video!
And this why I stay the hell away from mac. Too much trouble for too little gain.
Don't forget, it cost a LOOOOOOOOOOOOT for nothing
***** the PC wasn't good itself but PC in general if you take care of them last for a long time, in fact it's the contrary in general apple product last like 2 weeks and a PC could last a life time
If you build a pc as well it can be upgraded so easily
I think he mainly uses them for their film editing software. Final Cut really is a great program.
That's why I use both mac and PCs. Each has their own advantages.
Switching between FRAPS and OBS, switching format, assuring you've got proper audio, everything is a hectic journey that you and James had gone through just so you can provide amazing content to the community who often doesn't realize the dedication to the craft you guys have. Bring back Mr. Riggs!! He's HILARIOUS! I could watch that commercial over and over again, it's that awesome!
We need a AVGN Games 2 Episode for Angry Video Game Nerd +Cinemassacre
We need AVGN Game 1 and 2 collection for PS4
TRUE!!!!
and Xbox. And DS. And Wii
And Master System. And Game Boy. And NES.
And vectrex
2Joe90 And the hyperscan
Step 1: Record PC Game Footage
Step 2: Put Recorded File Into an SD Card
Step 3: Put SD Card Into Mac and Take File Out and Put It Into Your Mac!
NOW ITS ON THE MAC!
OR
Step 1: Record PC Game Footage
Step 2: Upload Game Footage to RUclips as Private
Step 3: Download Video as MP4. (There is an option for it in the RUclips Video Manager)
NOW YOU HAVE THE DOWNLOADED VIDEO FILE!
Step 1: Install Windows using the Mac built-in app "Boot Camp"
Step 2: Record game
Step 3: Edit and upload video
Right? While he was explaining all that, I couldn't help but wonder why they were all having such difficulty moving those files, especially Ryan who runs their website. I'm no Mac expert, but it seems like they were complicating the hell out of everything.
Fraps footage though would be in the 100s of gbs
PSXMicha Firewire could transfer 3,2 Gigabit per second. How fast is your network? 1 Gigabit?
Fantastic commentary, AVGN. Even the ending was hilarious! XP
You guys worked your asses off in 2013 and 2014. You produced some of my favorite AVGN episodes including the AVGN games and Wish List episodes. I also love the Movie as well and have seen it 5 times already. Thanks for posting your commentary!

Whata gem. I love hearing all of what goes into the episodes that makes my heart happy. James has it all down to a science that is really mindblowing.
PLEASE watch _The dragon in my dreams_. You'll thank me mentally.
Ignore this man.
These videos are a breath of fresh air on a Friday evening! Thanks so much James!
16:40 James has a fucking JUDAS PRIEST tattoo on his arm!? I came.
OHGODNO PLEASE STOP I CAN ONLY GET SO ERECT!
I appreciate your work, James. I love watching AVGN. It has become my favorite past-time.
James and mike, you two are EASILY my favourite personalities on the Internet or anything in general I watch. Amazing work dudes, seriously you make my day
My god... The Big Rigs episode came out over 2 years ago... It still feels like yesterday.
Ryan building a PC on carpet, lol.
Hahaha, I thought the same thing...

5:38 'Warsaw, Poland'
Poland loves you Cinemassacre! ^^
Thanks so much for putting this online James, you are generous.
You guys are great. Thanks for everything!
I just find it hard to believe that people would forgo using a PC just for the editing Mac has
Totally dude. I mean really, what use would James have for editing software?
What would be the point? He grew up editing on Macs. He can still browse the internet, email..etc etc and do everything a PC can do except play PC specific games.
It's all marketing. There's nothing you can do on a Mac that a PC can't do better. Anyone who's serious about editing videos should use Adobe Premiere regardless.
Video editing software is usually pretty complex, so maybe he didn't want to learn how to use another program just for that video
+Damaged7 - oh, child. there are waaay more things you can't do on a mac. that's the problem with having that kind of a closed system. sure it's convinient and easy to use. but you're missing out on so many things, both soft- and hardware; nevermind the price.
The Big Rigs was my favorite episode of the Nerd. I watch it whenever I'm upset. It always makes me laugh
This man needs a holiday :)
Like, i puton monster madness, wake up in the middle of the night to tmnt review, then wake up in the morning to random avgn
When you talked about the part in smoke and mirrors where you mess with your friend by using a code to make it harder, I realized the true brilliance of it. You said you couldnt get the code to work?
I bet it was on purpose. So it wasn't messing with your friends, it was messing with you. XD
I love how james kept to his roots all these years. hes always been evolving but kept things classic just like the good and bad games.
You and Mike need to play 'Harvester' sometime soon. In fact, quite surprised that was never an AVGN episode.
it was a PC game from 96-97 that was very very graphic sexually and violently. Also very terrible but hilarious.
I would like to see home review that lol
"You're such a kidder." They don't do many PC games but Harvester and Darkseed would be prime picks for sure!
I need more videos like this, this was the most genuine piece of work I've seen on here for awhile and I loved it, that's not to say I haven't enjoyed the other recent videos but still lol
I love dragon in my dreams. I consider that james's masterpiece.
I don't want to sound like a smartass but Because he's the angry video game nerd
He reviewed the atari sports games
Bruh!..... You just found out about him a couple of months ago? You should've seen him back in his golden years he came out with a lot of good shit
+Yung Aj Yeah, I've been sleeping i guess.. tons to catch up on
Hey a protip for recording your Screaming audio and NOT having the audio peak: Turn the gain on the microphone way down and the "microphone volume" in whatever recording program you use (I use Audacity) to about 50 percent instead of 100. Hope you guys can see this and it helps you out! Best of luck with future episodes!
What this guy said ^
it's one hell of a piece of history now man
You guys are awesome. Glad to see you're finding success with your endeavors.
He used the Bill & Ted NES cart to pretend he destroyed the Beetlejuice game. But he still destroyed an LJN game.
Seriously though, your methods for recording PC game footage is terribly antiquated.
"NOTE: This video was made several years ago, when Mike first got a PC. We have figured out all these recording issues in the time since then."
It worked though right? :)
It was new territory for them its always a learning process.
Seriously though, your method of commenting is terribly pretentious.
well he's taking you back to the past fucknut
He has millions of subscribers. I've never heard of you. Congratulations.
Thank you.
you have sooo much content to consume, you guys have made more content than many hollywood style studios!
keep it up!
Anyone else wants an episode about Prince of Persia? (I mean the original ones, if you are only familiar with the Ubisoft ones). The whole game was classic and some versions especially the DOS ones were amazing, but some of them were pure shit.
I wonder if James ever thought about 3D printing dummy game carriages, and break those instead.
You could've run the audio out from the PC into the audio input on the camera and saved yourselves a ton of trouble. Just a tip for the future :)
he needs to make another fucking movie
amazing p.o.s. better be.
back off old-timer this is good shit
According to this commentary they are the two most inefficient movie/tech nerds in recent history!
The footage problem they had with a PC hurts my brain... smh its so goddamn easy
I've been watching your awesome content since I was 10 now I'm 14 thanks for the amazing content!!
And now you're 20! Welcome to adulthood!
I always love how sincere and honest you are. I could honestly watch videos from you like these all day. They are so inspiring and entertaining. Keep up the good work!
We need more AVGN episodes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I enjoy learning how you make the shots . Such as the two James Characters.
the things he's describing for having to capture games on pc and transferring etc etc I could have legit got done in one day, and not even the whole day.
As James and Mike approach 1000 videos I can't help but wish for a Cinemassacre 1000 just like with the 200 and 300 milestones and the amazing videos that came from those breakthrus.
2013-2014 for AVGN James's hairline recedes even further back than it already was. That's a pretty good summary right?
Really neat stuff! The commercial in the Big Rigs video is one of my all-time favorite AVGN moments! -- AT
something weird I figured out is if you took the pc hard-drive and put it in an external case you could take the files from that hard drive on a mac with relative ease, but if you do that and try to take files from it on a PC for some reason it just won't work. That said you probably could have just used a regular external drive to import the files from one computer to the other.
I did not realise the fanmade AVGN games were recorded with a camera pointed at the screen. I never would have guessed it, it looks really clear!
and this is why he needs Justin and Keiren
25:30 you can see the original game's label appearing after being hammered
Interesting stuff, this was very fun to listen to.
I'm glad that with the Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero video, you finally started creating actually unique thumbnails for the episodes.
Bring back Mr. Rigs next week!
love you james keep on doing what you do bro, all the best mate!
You'll be trading 2 weeks of telling your new staff "No I usually do it this way." and eventually they will get it the way you want it. You're a bigshot, James you should start acting like one.
I would love to see Mr. Rigs in future Nerd episodes as a guest!
didn't realize you had so many issue with the video recordings. i deal with that stuff all the time so converting video and recording video directly is easy for me. try a hdmi screen capture device like live gamer pro or elgato
thank you sir for your videos, you are a true entertainer and have provided me with lots of laughs
I love this guy!
that ending thing really scared the shit out of me, thought he was gonna a big announcement or something
Point of the video: DON'T USE A MAC.
For James‘ work a Mac is way better. When you just want to play your cheap standard PC is good enough.
Don't use Final Cut.
Hope to see Mike in an AVGN game with his costumes. He could cycle through them like Megaman cycles through his weapons lol.
OBJECTION!!! In the Mega Man series Mega Man never changes color. It only shows it the game to let you know which weapon your using it at the time. Even in one of mike and james videos. Mike said that Mega Man never changes color.
Was that before or after he called the default weapon Person

BREAKING THE LAW! BREAKING THE LAW!
I love to play Judas!
I think it's really interesting how your main inspiration is those old schlocky b-movies yet you're a devout perfectionist.
the nerd was like Tony hawk
Your speaks for itself and u are in a league of ur own...best youtuber out there...i love u James 💓
It blows my mind hearing about james and mikes long attempt at recording the pc games. Just use nvidia shadowplay or radeon replay or obs and use an external hard drive. Boom problem solved easily.
I love you guys! Keep doing the good work with your amazing channel!
Lesson learned: Abandon the Mac. Why not? They abandoned their pro users! x3
In hindsight, some of this PC talk is definitely a precursor to the infamous 2021 video
holy cow, just use OBS and window capture the game window, saves video as mp4
That's not always possible. Also this video is about a period 10 years ago. If OBS existed back then, it wasn't widely known. Windows 10 didn't exist yet; Windows 8.1 was released during this period.
@@JodyBruchon Are you like seven? OBS was out and very well known by 2014.
We love you so Much James. You are really awesome
I want to see a James And Mike Mondays video where you play Boogerman on Genesis or Spawn In The Demon's Hand for Dreamcast!!! 🤘🤘🖒🖒😆
lol boogerman. i remember that game
I’m waiting for them to do Normys Beach Babe-o-Rama. I bought the game 2 years ago when mike mentioned it in a video. And still no.
Thank you James. You obviously do a lot to make us fans happy.
