Proper respect for the amount of dedication Liam has towards material components for spells. I always forget in my campaigns XD
Same, I just did three Identify's today and completely forgot I needed a pearl
Honestly his dedication make the wizard so much more interesting and make me want to be more strict about it in my game because it give an othet level of immersion
For many things an arcane focus can take the place of any material component without a gold value
I just started with the second campaign after watching Exandria Unlimited: Calamity (I followed Brennan from Dimension 20), and I can tell right away Liam and Taliesin are old school D&D players. Like 2nd Ed/AD&D old school (where I started because my first DM’s dad taught him to play with AD&D, and my second DM mixed elements of AD&D with 3rd Edition).
I especially remember my second DM telling us to either describe our spells/skills or give them a new name that our character would use for them. And he was real crunchy with the material components and how much of what coin we had. I’m not sorry that campaign ended the way it did, but I am sorry it ended when it did. I had good reasons for killing the rest of my party*.
*I was a Chaotic Nuetral Drow rogue who used my position as lead scout to escape the Underdark. A group of traveling adventurers came upon me and instead of befriending me, they captured me and used me to scam small farming towns. They’d release me, I’d kill a cow, scare some poor farmer half to death, and then the rest of the party would show as “drow hunters”. We stage a fight, extort the farmers and townsfolk for what they’ve got, and move on. It’s not how I and our DM thought it would go, but it was funny so we went with it.
We’d just really “stumbled” upon the main quest our DM had for us, when OOC (out-of-character) bullshit started seeping into our game. Our cleric was dating our ranger and they started having relationship problems, and it got to the point where one would bring up real world shit in the game. Like if we want the cleric the heal anybody the ranger needed to apologize for some high school bullshit drama.
Then my twin brother, our tank, a half-orc barbarian, came up with a solution and our next session I put it into action. When it came time to make camp for the night, I convinced everyone that I could take watch because I’m a Drow, I can see in the dark, and I only need 4 hours meditation as opposed to 8 hours sleep. I asked the DM if everyone was asleep, rolled a natty 19, and said what my brother told me to say, “I’ve had enough of this being captive bullshit. If they’re all dead asleep, coup de grâces all around. Then I want to take the barbarian’s bag of holding and loot the bodies for everything g valuable, including teeth and hair.”
Our DM thought it was hilarious, and he was sick of the bullshit, so he just allowed it. The barbarian obviously thought it was funny, the ranger and cleric were pissed as hell, and our mage got confused and asked, “Why the teeth and hair?”
To sell to goblins. They can use the hair to make ropes and teeth for bullets in their slingshots.
Unfortunately it was immediately followed by him being the worst kind of drama just to identify items. It was like Tibs was back and shopping again.
Rewatching this, hearing Caleb wake up screaming "TAKE THEM OUT! TAKE THEM OUT!" after knowing his backstory is so damn horrifying/heartbreaking
This is my first watch but that moment already left me feeling kinda off, glad to know it’ll pay off later
Same. Looking forward to more like this. Liam is always fantstic.
Yeah esp considering he just disintegrated a person right after having ptsd from killing someone, rolling shit for so long when using fire and then literally killing two people one after the other with a lucky streak, or unlucky in his case i g
I really don't think it has anything to do with his backstory, he was just shot 3 times. Albeit he took them out but I'd be willing to bet he was just shouting about the arrows and not his backstory. At least Id be thinking about the last thing that happened to me before I died upon waking up again

He said at one point that he has a couple little notes describing how the character sounds, like "high-pitched, nasal Irish" or something similar written next to the character's name.

@@HyenaFox I agree! I think the combo of their acting skills, longtime friendship, and passion for the game makes CR truly special! I honestly don't mind Marisha and Beau, they can be fun and interesting in their own right, but she could seriously use a few lessons from how Liam played/plays Vax/Caleb.
Marisha has vastly improved since Keyleth... I think a monk is a much less complicated class, which lets her focus more on the tiny details of her character.
Liam, being someone who has many years of D&D experience doesn't usually get bogged down by his character, so he can focus on his role-playing more. He does seem to go too dark with his characters, tho. Can be a lil depressing...😓

As a geezer(I’ll be 62 this year), I played (mainly DM’d) D&D back in the 1970's, 80's and into
the late 90's (I started with the original boxed set - with the dice you had to color in the numbers yourself). I gave it up for good about 20 years ago, sold all my stuff: dice, books, modules, figures, etc. Then I read an article about this show online where a group of people play D&D - and got hooked again. It took awhile but I got caught up on all the episodes just as they were streaming the Season 1 finale.
I am now once again DM’ing a group, online this time as the players are in 3 different states now, with a couple of my original players that I have stayed in contact with over the years, and a few others, and am loving it, again!

Bless Matt for giving us Pumat Sol because if not we never would have Caduceus. Seeing Tal's pure joy at Pumat is just delightful.
I adored Vex, but Jester is Laura in her purest form. Completely adorable and utterly terrifying.
The way Jester talks about growing up in such denial about the loneliness of her childhood. Her "I would listen through the door and here her singing." That made me so sad. Like honey that's not normal.
Me too. The fact that she was joking and smiling through it all made it even sadder. I'm not caught up yet so I don't have more context, but whether she puts on the funny facade to deal with the loneliness or whether her childhood has actually left her a stunted person in such denial that she'll probably stay a child forever, both options are equally heartbreaking.

#JesterProtectionSquad.
It really makes you love the traveler, he saw a lonely little girl and decided to teach her and play with her just to be her friend
#travelerislove

same. at this point I guess the party didn't have a close enough bond for anyone to really push back on this, but I hope in later episodes they might. here Jester sounded a lot like a kid who doesn't realize that their messed up home life isn't "normal," like situations of neglect or abuse. breaks my heart to think how that whole situation impacted her, being stuck in her room, alone, and always told she had to stay hidden. yes she has the cheery, joking way about her and wants to bring joy to others... but maybe she's also hurting underneath all that?
watching this episode made me wonder even more about the Traveler. did this entity choose Jester as a convert/devotee/"friend"/etc because she was lonely, or seemed vulnerable? how will she react if the Traveler isn't all she hoped?

I love how wholesome the group can be, from Nott's birthday to the way they cared about Jester's past, to Matthew really caring when Marisha hurt herself, it's all just so precious.
Matt caring for Marisha was real sweet, but remember they are married IRL😃
That makes it better.

I'd argue Molly is lawful, because it doesn't necessarily mean following the law of a country, but can also refer to your own code
Nott: A strangely adorable goblin girl with sticky fingers and a heart bigger than she is.
Caleb: A socially awkward wizard (with a cat!), who's apparently seen some shit.
Beauregard: A rebellious monk who is now a full disciple of the badass bookworms that are the Cobalt Soul.
Jester: A cute blue tiefling with a very fitting name who is best friends with a god, and apparently the daughter of a high class courtesan.
Fjord: The "Texblade" half-orc (whose accent is apparently fake... hmm.), who knows the sea and seems to have made a pact with something living in it.
Mollymauk: Fortune teller, sword juggler, and gloriously flamboyant and sarcastic.
Yasha: Woman of few words, but seems to have a softness beneath her intimidating appearance.
Eight episodes in... I wasn't sure it was possible, but I dare say CR has made me love these characters as much as Vox Machina before them. I really look forward to seeing what the "Mighty Nein" get into next.

I have to give Marisha credit. Rib injuries rank as the worst, just because simply breathing hurts, never mind talking, laughing, or moving. And if you sneeze, forget it.

He is a magic using character, so there is already a fjord focus.
He needs to be the host for a party in the local tavern. It would be a

The "Take them out!" moment hits so much harder on a rewatch. Phew. Hats off to Liam (again and again and again) for his portrayal of Caleb.
Having watch campaign 2 already and now rewatching it directly after watching campaign 1, I am LOVING the contrast between the characters. Neurotic Caleb vs devil-may-care Vax, charismatic and intelligent Fjord vs lovable idiot Grog, broken and stern Percy vs carefree wild spirit MollyMauk (and later deliberate and gentle Caduceus), hard-ass sardonic Beau vs airheaded delightful Keyleth, Nervous Nott vs Self-assured Scanlan and egotistical daddy-issues Tary, and adorable, chaotic Jester vs supremely sexy, in-control Vex. Man I love it so much. Then throw Campaign 3 into the mix and *mind blown*.
