what do you mean? this is basically the first DnD thing I've seen and I doubt I'll watch literally all of them...(maybe I will... lol) could you explain? I'm not concerned about spoilers.
I know. His previous character was him literally trying to make the worst possible character based on Liam's suggestions. Which later ended up being much deeper and one of the most crucial to the campaign. This one seemed like a joke character and then it turned out it had such depth and backstory, with multiple twists. OneDankind, there's really so much to cover that would take a long time explaining, so it's not for lack of giving spoilers, but basically, yeah it just seems like a silly fun character here, but later we will find out a lot of backstory, that shows Sam created the character with a lot of deep backstory, and lots of it is actually sad or tragic rather than just a silly little goblin girl.
Coming back to this video to say that I hope in the Mighty Nein animated series, the introduction dialogue between the characters is basically word for word- I have come back to this video many times for a good laugh- Nott saying she gets "squiggly", Jester telling Caleb he stinks, "How many gold did I get?" "Seven!" "Woo!", Yasha's deadpan, Molly's tarot reading. The whole thing is just gold.
I missed C1, but loved Vox Machina so i thought I would get into C2 before the Amazon prime series started, I just started watching and I already love Nott
They could literally use the sound from the episode itself if you ask me. Music included. The pillars soundtrack seems to just come in and support the scenes like magic. Little sad when it slowly replaced overtime by original stuff.
Yeah I hope they keep all of the Caleb's great moments at the start, Liam is so good at roleplaying, esp when you are on rewatch and remember this whole calm and non conflicting personality is all just a surface
@@Bb24138 Thats what Im trying to explain to you. Its not a skyrim reference. Its a completely basic thing to say when someone wakes up. He didnt even word it exactly like in the game. The others didnt laugh because of what he said, but because of how he said it.
Only because you've applied that meaning to it, didn't even pop into my mind until I read your comment to be honest. I like to immerse myself in the world they're in with them.
Actually, on further reflection of my previous comment, Id like to add: Whoever made the deal could almost show up drunk, sleep at their desk, and when the intern asks how he gets away with it someone says 'he got us advertised on critical role'.
The way he hesitated covering his face then cheekily drinks his mug really seems weirdly so clear and visible now... They're really good at foreshadowing without spoiling it.
Nott was much more cockney back at the beginning of the campaign, though. She's become higher pitched in tone and raspier in quality, more American in pronunciation.
Post-watching, character impressions. Travis: Alright Matt, if you want to keep giving me sentient weapons, I'll make a guy who *worships* his blade. Marisha: Okay, I've already done Aang, time to play Sokka. Liam: That's one sad boy down, on to the next one. Sam: :pulls out the copious notes he took from watching the Goblins! One-shot: Laura: Being the sane, sensible member of the party was fun and all, but what if I just play a total troll instead? Talesin: Percy *almost* sold his soul to the devil...let's make a devil he *would* have sold his soul to. Ashley: :looking directly at Travis: *I* would like to rage.
So basically. What I’m hearing is Travis: ? Marisha: ty Lee Liam: Zuko (both are emo) Sam: sokka Laura: korra? Talisin: katara? Ashley: torn between toph and azula Open to suggestions
Me, finally getting to campaign 2- "It's so weird seeing these guys play their new characters. I don't know if I'm ever going to get over how different this feels." Talliesin- "our circus doesn't admit the elderly." Me- "Ah. That's better."
They are nothing but consistent when it comes to hating old people and furniture, specifaclly doors. A common thread running through all 3 campaigns xD
I don’t know if Laura already knew she wanted that to be Jester’s accent, but I like to think she made that decision after hearing Sam’s character talk, and his reaction when Jester started talking was fantastic
It is so awesome that Matt doesn't brush over the carnival part with a "You-watch-the-carnival- it's-really-amazing-and-you-enjoy-yourselves-for-2-or-so-hours." but instead goes through the trouble of actually giving them the carnival experience with his amazing storyteller skills.
Playing against type is SO MUCH FUN! XD I've got multiple graduate degrees, teach college courses, know multiple dead languages, etc. but the most fun I've ever had was playing an INT 4 Barbarian.
He's probably the best overall at "playing the game" so to speak. He sticks to character, doesn't powergame, and works with the knowledge his character would have rather than what he as a player has.
I found this series because of the animated version of this scene. It was wonderful. Now I've only got about 50 4+ hours long videos to watch before I've caught up.
55 years old and played my first game today. I now understand the love for this game. I have a lot to learn. Not sure if there are others in my age group here. That table is BEAUTIFUL.

Old Wolf Logan Those two are the best choices though. Unless you also want to consider the complex relations between them, which could lead to a different choice.
Matt describing the different wooden textures of their new table. Travis: *takes notes* Matt mentions his Blood Rager class. Travis *adds another note*.
They had already encountered the Blood Hunter class, a guest player TOVA when Vox Machina was in the hells inside the prison dungeon was playing a blood hunter, and travis was LOVING all the flavor about it.
I come from the future to inform you that you shall soon know wonders beyond your dreams and terrors to chill your soul. Your heart will sore, it will break, you will laugh, cry, and shout with rage. But welcome to the family new, returning or old critter. We love you no matter how late you arrive :)
Nott: "Oh you are finally awake" My mind instantly: "You were trying to cross the border, right? Walked right into that Imperial ambush, same as us, and that thief over there."
Whether intentional or not, a hobo making something of himself would be more confident in how he speaks and a goblin that might not be used to speaking common would sound very foreign until they found a group of humans to socialize with on a regular basis. I think this was unintentional and just kind of happened when they got more comfortable with their voices.
Guts The Berserker Sure; just actors getting more confident (or relaxed) with their character’s accent. I know this, I just made the comment for the amusing comparison haha~
Yess omg me too its so weird the new voices, and the sudden distrust... I loved VM but this is new and fresh and I am very curious about where this will go
Note: Watching this (Dec. 2023) campaign for the 4th time. By far the best in terms of unbridled humor, funny Sam ads, storyline, and production (especially audio). Lauras ability to jump straight into character, be instantly comfortable and RP any situation is almost magical. Such a damn talent. Bless you 🎉Luara Bailey🎉 This show wouldn't be the same without her
I still think it's so funny that Nott got less cockney over time, while Caleb got more German. Like they only have a total of one accent that they have to share, so when one gets stronger the other fades.
Funny enough, Orym, Liam's C3 character, reminds me of Derrig, the Half-Elf fighter he did for Dalen's Closet, the epilogue of sorts for C1, and acting as Keyleth's bodyguard, even if they both knew she didn't need it even if Orym is a different race.
At this part of the campaign, I think it might have been Dani Carr. Later in the campaign they switched to a service or something and it's not nearly as accurate.
I don’t think I’m necessarily hard of hearing but I think I might have some auditory processing issues. I really wouldn’t be able to enjoy CR without them, would be constantly rewinding and still not understanding. Forever grateful.
As shikapup said, english subtitles were at the time written by an entire community, CRTranscript, which were just members of the community working for free. The other languages were translated on this base by another community, they continued for a while after CR switched to professionals for english subs but now with talk of youtube removing the ability for the community to give subtitles I'm not sure if they're still going. Still, give them all some love, this was an absolutely monstrous task

I notice that what makes this so great isn’t just Matt, it’s the players too. The players always stay focused and in character and only speak when necessary and when there’s a good time. But they crack jokes and laugh when it’s a good time too. Not only is Matt a great DM, but the players are great players too. That’s what really makes this great.
2:16:57 Looking back, I saw Caleb not clapping at the fire fairies’ performance at the circus. Then, slowly realizing his backstory. *_Genius Liam, Genius._*
Just finished Campaign 1 (Literally still crying from watching Dalens Closet), and I'm already ready to be hurt again by falling in love with these new characters. Mighty Nein here I come!
Years later and I just realized something. Every now and then, Caleb repeats back a word questioningly, as if he doesn't know what that word is. For example, at 1:10:41-1:10:57, he asks what a "training" game is. This is because common is Caleb's second language. His native language is Zemnian (German). The level of detail Liam puts into his characters is amazing.
Yeah, things like that is why Liam has always been my favorite character player... his attention to detail, creating back stories, and emotional depth is SOOOOOO compelling to watch.... also, knowing that he has used the game to help process his own personal hardships, as I have done, I just have a connection with his play style
I love his layers of acting too! Good catch with the first language implication. I also like to think he's referencing that while training he didn't get any consideration for not knowing how things worked. Like being thrown in the deep end versus being helped in the shallows. It fits how his education progressed and the price paid for that education, there were no "training games."

"Here in this sleepy trade stop along the amber road, a handful of wandering destinies slowly begin to intersect." Such a wonderfully worded beginning.
The amber thing filled my heart with joy 'cause I know Wildmount is supposed to be so pseudo-Eastern European and there's SUCH great fascinating history with amber trade routes throughout northern and eastern Europe, so as a reference point in the storytelling it was A+. (And the disappearance of the original Amber Room is one of my favourite historical mysteries.)
You tried to cross the border. You walked right into that imperial ambush, same as us, and that thief over there. Edit: Damn you Stormcloaks, Skyrim was just fine without you, Empire was nice and lazy.

Travis seems to have the biggest streaks in both directions, though. There are two separate occasions where he's had three nat 1s in a row: - once at the festival later in C2, at the carnival games. - once in Liam's one-shot, the screw job where they were all rogues; Travis was playing Tarvis the half-orc with a scimitar and some leadership qualities, and high Int... Hrm. That one-shot was statistically insane, Travis had at least seven nat1 rolls, and a bunch of other low rolls. So did everyone on one side of the table, but it was Travis with the nat1s.
This is how next level Mercer is. At 2:19:13 he turns to set the audio... He then proceeds to give this vivid 45sec description of the situation and as he says "...a soft, faint voice..." 2:20:00 , the BGM picks up and begins to sing. These nuances are amazing... This guy is SO badass at setting a scene.
My husband is a big fan and says this is peak campaign. I’ve wanted to watch for awhile but I have two small children and work from home full time, so the only time I have available to watch is in the morning while I get ready. (He listens while he works, alone and not at home. 🤪) So I’m secretly starting to watch and am looking forward to understanding all the references when I complete the campaign in five years. 😂 3/9/24 Just finished everything including the extra shows! 🤩 This was so worth it, and I managed to last 9 episodes before I had to share with my husband that I was watching. 😂 I couldn’t keep it in I was so excited. Starting campaign 1 today!
It’s so interesting to see how everyone‘s trying to figure out their character voices this early on. Like Nott used to have a very faintly British accent that I’m pretty sure is gone now, Caleb just got progressively more and more German, Yasha has a completely different accent now, and of course there’s Fjord. But I feel like Jester’s accent has always been and will always be the same XD
Jester is the reason I started critical role. Saw a compilation of her sendings and I was in love 😍🤣🤣 now I’m caught up and rewatching. This campaign is like LOTR for me once a year I watch it and feel all the feels🥰🥰
Caleb is definitely my favourite character so far, it’s hard to choose considering how absolutely wonderful everyone is, but the way he words his sentences is so enjoyable. “Yes, the coin is on the table, and on the table it shall stay.” “I gave away my silver pieces (no, I gave them back, remember?) I-uh, gave away my two silver pieces”

Oh my God Caleb's accent is so light he literally sounds like an American who went to Germany twice
“I’m not a goblin” 😭
@@milesmanges enjoy the journey! it goes by faster than you think!
Yeah I hope they keep all of the Caleb's great moments at the start, Liam is so good at roleplaying, esp when you are on rewatch and remember this whole calm and non conflicting personality is all just a surface

The Marketing Director of DnD Beyond made the greatest decision of their life when they started sponsoring Crit role on this day.
Anyone who tried to shut down the deal probably is in a new job today.
Actually, on further reflection of my previous comment, Id like to add: Whoever made the deal could almost show up drunk, sleep at their desk, and when the intern asks how he gets away with it someone says 'he got us advertised on critical role'.
This is not how jobs work.

Sam saying: "Maybe it's not a goblin, maybe its a little hafling person or something." Hits differently now
Especially with the knowing look Liam and Sam exchange with each other.
The way he hesitated covering his face then cheekily drinks his mug really seems weirdly so clear and visible now... They're really good at foreshadowing without spoiling it.
Omg, yeeees
Matt also mentions Felderwinn (a town with a large Halfling population) right after...
Sam [high-pitched and hoarse]: Ya! I'm sticking with this accent for the next two years.
One year down. Long live Nott.
Nott was much more cockney back at the beginning of the campaign, though. She's become higher pitched in tone and raspier in quality, more American in pronunciation.

I don’t know if Laura already knew she wanted that to be Jester’s accent, but I like to think she made that decision after hearing Sam’s character talk, and his reaction when Jester started talking was fantastic

There’s just one episode to go to for Molly’s accent, finally discovered, and it’s a sad one,,, all good things come with prices it seems
Whether intentional or not, a hobo making something of himself would be more confident in how he speaks and a goblin that might not be used to speaking common would sound very foreign until they found a group of humans to socialize with on a regular basis. I think this was unintentional and just kind of happened when they got more comfortable with their voices.

And he still continues on with his narrative like nothing's changed xD I found it funny because it shows how witty his character actually is and makes for a really good char building moment !
You don't have to repeat what they said. We heard
@@rcdehaai Right, there's no room to bring up highlights or discuss favorite moments on a public forum. What would you prefer? 'Wow, that sure was neat!' or 'That one moment, with those two characters was a good moment and I personally found it funny/poignant/significant'.

After the Mighty Nein live show reunion this week its crazy to come back to the first episode to see how far they've come/changed 🥰
Same here! I'm still so pumped up after the show that I'm starting a rewatch of the whole campaign. Feels good to be back with the Mighty Nein ❤
I just finished the main campaign this weekend and wanted to go back to episode 1 to relive it. It’s great to watch them

*Ashley Johnson will remember that*
I love all the C3 viewers back to re-watch C2 😂

How did it go???
Hope it went well @@paulvamos7319

I know this is over a year late but that look of pure joy on Travis' face when Ashley say "I would like to rage" is the best

Hey there. Finished C1 like 5 hours ago - weeping and overwelmed by feelings.
Now let's go on a new adventure. I heard so many good things about C2.
Let's dive in
"Maybe it's not a goblin. Maybe it's a halfling person." God damn it, Sam.
Oh my god. Two years!
yes i picked up on this now. Damn that's great foreshadowing
Right? And Sam checking with Matt, "Uh.... I know halfling, right?" LUL
Can you stop posting spoilers under the FIRST FUCKING EPISODE ..
@Danny Dolan Sam Riegel is no stranger to the long game...
Nott: *wears a mask*
2020: you're about... 2 years too early
Nott: *drunkenly hiccups* HAH! THATS... THAT.... I forgot what I was gonna say
Omg- why didn’t they make NOTT masks when they made masks?!
@@ambiej123 I so want this now!
How did I guess this?
"Here in this sleepy trade stop along the amber road, a handful of wandering destinies slowly begin to intersect." Such a wonderfully worded beginning.
XxLoneWolfexX So lovely.
GotLostProductions I didn't know that! How interesting!
Matt is amazing at atmosphere and world building and I can't wait to sit and enjoy the ride every Thursday.
It gave me goosebumps and I couldn't fucking stop smiling. Matt is a master at what he does I stg
"You're finally awake."
- Nott, FIRST FREAKING SENTENCE OF THE CAMPAIGN.
You tried to cross the border. You walked right into that imperial ambush, same as us, and that thief over there. Edit: Damn you Stormcloaks, Skyrim was just fine without you, Empire was nice and lazy.
@@WirelessMagician “shut up back there” “what’s wrong with him?” “Watch your tongue, your speaking to ulferic storm cloak, the true high king” “ulferic? The jarl of windhelm? Your the leader of the rebellion and… if they’ve captured you, oh gods where are they taking us”
The first roll of this campaign and the last roll of the previous campaign were both Nat 20's and both by Travis. He's the true Critical Roll Master
Critical roll chad
Damn right :D He and Taliesin always had some of the best freakin' luck with Natural 20's!
Marisha getting the last kill and the first kill is also a fun mirror
Travis seems to have the biggest streaks in both directions, though. There are two separate occasions where he's had three nat 1s in a row:
- once at the festival later in C2, at the carnival games.
There's a reason they made him CEO after all
This is how next level Mercer is.
3/9/24 Just finished everything including the extra shows!
Jester and her voice is heavenly so it better not change
Yeah, idk if people realize how amazing Laura is at voice work.
@@Eorzat Travis is a Cell from a DBZ VO. Let that sink in, Grog is Cell.
Andrew And Laura is kid Trunks. Let THAT sink in.
And of course Taliesin never really figured out Molly's accent.
I like how excited everyone gets before Taliesen introduces himself, because they know what a good RPer he is.
"I am a little goblin girl." -Sam

Jester is the reason I started critical role. Saw a compilation of her sendings and I was in love 😍🤣🤣 now I’m caught up and rewatching. This campaign is like LOTR for me once a year I watch it and feel all the feels🥰🥰
Caleb: “Good luck at the academy. That’s rough, I hear”
Oh boi
That’s rough buddy

I just about died when Liam said that. Shit like this is why you gotta rewatch, so you can catch these hints of what's to come.
Caleb is definitely my favourite character so far, it’s hard to choose considering how absolutely wonderful everyone is, but the way he words his sentences is so enjoyable. “Yes, the coin is on the table, and on the table it shall stay.” “I gave away my silver pieces (no, I gave them back, remember?) I-uh, gave away my two silver pieces”
i found him a bit bland at first but now he is my Son Whom I Love Very Much

Nott: "I have a pair of fours."
Jester: "I have three fives!"
Nott: "I draw my shortsword."
Beau: "I immediately grapple him."

@@amitgabay3721 the fourth line is a bit unnecessary really. Its just Nott losing at dice and drawing a weapon suddenly
@@colebecker7832 what I struggle with is this has 450 likes
@@amitgabay3721 It's fairly common for someone to "quote" their favorite part of a video. The likes are basically just people saying "Yep, that was also a part I liked". It's not like they're saying Springbok was being clever or something. It's just nod to a particular scene.
0:40:08 of course Nott would know halfling. It's amazing what you pick up on a rewatch.
Before I knew what happens in the future, I'd assumed it was a trick to pass off as a halfling more consistently. The beauty of rewatches indeed.

You're in for a ride! Have fun!
I first watched C2 without C1. These people on the screen were weird strangers to me, playing an even weirder dice game. That was a long while ago, I watched all of this campaign and then went back to Vox Machina and now I return as a person who has learned to love D&D, learened so much about it, played tons of games and now as a DM. These people on this screen now have so much more of a deeper and emotional meaning to me as well as the characters that they play.
My first encounter was a compalation of the furniture battle of c3, didnt know who any of the people where and felt like c1 started in media res (because it was) and started this instead and fell in love with everything dnd
