I’m with you on the constant change in basal rates. I’d love to hear how you “test” basal rates. I accidentally had a G6 get pulled off my arm when I bumped into a door frame. When I called Dexcom (they did replace it) they offered to send me some extra tape patches to help secure it better (they’ve worked great, even keeping the sensor on in a similar scenario). They said if I want more to just call them and they will send them out free as it is much cheaper to send them than to replace a sensor. Not sure why they don’t just include them with the sensors, but it’s working for me.
i’m a t1d for almost a year and it’s been really hard!! watching ur videos just inspires me. you take such good care of your diabetes!! i hope you and your husband are well!! t1d from new york!
Hi Michelle, I had been using Medtronic for 20 years. It lost its warranty and I decided to switch to the Tandenm T-Slim pump 20 days ago. I have been using this pump for two weeks. It was a challenge at first. I am 79 and getting use to this new pump was a little more difficult until I found your video. You have been such a delightful help!! Many thanks! Mary
Thanks, Michelle! I love your videos so much! So nice to see what you’re up to. I got diagnosed recently in September with T1D and have really enjoyed your channel ever since! My in-laws live in Toronto and maybe when I visit next and the situation improves with the pandemic we could meet up! I hope you’re staying safe and well. Your T1D sister from Vancouver, Eva
You inspired me to look into pumps for my daughter. She has been pumping with the T-Slim x2 with Basal IQ for 2 weeks now and we are loving it! Thank you!
Hi, thanks so much for these videos! I just fell in love with and moved in with a type 1 diabetic and your videos are helping me to understand what he's going through!
I don’t hear too many diabetics say they were taught to subtract fibre from the carbs! I was diagnosed in 2014 and that’s what I was taught and it always works well for me. My mom was diagnosed in 1977 and was never taught this, and she’s never had issues with her blood sugar due to it. So fascinating how different things work for different diabetics!
I agree, it isn't too common to meet other diabetics that subtract fibre! It is so interesting how we both do it, yet other's don't and it totally works for them!
Great video per usual Michelle! ♥️ I SO hear you on the constant basal rate adjustments...I feel like I’m all up in those bad boys on the daily...and then every day is different so I’m thinking what the heck am I doing!! 💁🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ Those falafels looks so yum...the chocolate and nut combo too...with the coffee!! YES YES YESSSS!!! Sending you guys love and strength!!
Thanks so much Andrea! Haha yes I feel like we are on the same wavelength. I will do the exact same things every day, yet my blood sugar will be completely different, and I'm like "WHY" 😂. Sending love back your way ❤️
My basal rates are constantly changing, too! So frustrating. Finally figured out my rates and had 100% in range one day.... but now I am going high all the time! Agghhh lol Love seeing what you eat in a day because I follow a similar diet to you! Happy to see you're getting through this the best you can.
Wow 100% in range is amazing!! The changing basal rates are frustrating, right? We will finally figure it out, then all of a sudden our bodies decide to not agree 😂. Thanks for watching 💞
Michelle, I loved this video so much!!! Definitely one of my faves. 💙 You looked so fresh and had great lighting. Today was so dreary and snowy (🙄) it was such a nice thing to see a little brightness. 🙌 I picked up some great tips and I’m going to check out those over-tapes and try making chickpea ‘meatballs’ for sure! Thanks!
I’m getting my first insulin pump hopefully this week so I love watching your videos! They have such great tips I usually use PumpPeelz for my CGM sites so hopefully the ones I ordered for my new dexcom will work but I’m definitely gonna order some of the skin grips! :)
Hi Michelle, thanks for the great videos! When you try to bring your blood sugar down by going up and down the stairs - for how long do you do it? Is it in addition to having active insulin? and does it work? I've never tried doing that but it seems like a good idea :)
Hi!! Thanks for watching! I just ran up and down around 4 times. I had active insulin, so I guess the activity was to help get that active insulin working in my body 😊. Either that, or going for a walk is a great way to bump stubborn high blood sugars down!
I’m basically on the same page but rather than thinking my basal levels are off I think I’m more resistant to insulin at the moment. So frustrating! Doing everything I’m supposed to do (even giving a bit extra insulin for my carbs) and running so high all day and then crashing in the late afternoon. Hopefully it’s hormones because that feeling frustrated can be a huge downer. Had one of my worst lows ever yesterday and feel so guilty for loosing control, es with a libre on. All I can do is try harder & test more often. I hope you can get your basal levels readjusted soon! Big hugs.
That's a really good point about the insulin resistance. Our activity levels are so different now than they used to be! I'm sorry to hear about your low yesterday. That sounds so frustrating! You are doing the best you can, and that's all that matters! I hope your numbers level out soon! ❤️❤️
I totally understand your frustration with ping ponging levels throughout the day. I usually make it worse by “chasing” the highs and lows hoping to cause a quick leveling out. It only makes my frustration worse. Your videos always make me empathize with your type 1 battles. I get it..........
Yes! My basal rates have been all over the place- my bg's have been ranging from 12 to around 19! I'm now on a temp basal of 120% so hopefully that will help! Love your videos. :)
Hello, I am recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I want to know that which insulin cooler to use for carrying insulin injections outside while travelling. I'm from India and I cannot afford the insulin pump as it is very costly. Also can you make a video on diet in which the things are available internationally, please. I really liked your channel for all the information you provided, Thank you!
Have you had many of your G6 's going out early? My son's is struggling to make it past 7 or 8 days. Doesn't work out too well with insurance only paying for 3 per month. The sensor just starts giving trouble and the speed of the issues gets faster and faster until you just rip it out and put in a new one.
Hi! I have not experienced this issue, and I'm sorry to hear that you are :(. I can imagine that would be quite stressful given the cost. Have you contacted Dexcom tech support? They should be made aware that this is happening. I hope you have better luck with your sensors soon 💙
@@MichelleLord We have contacted Tandem and they replace them but it is happening so often that we wonder if they are going to stop believing us. Tomorrow is day 7 of the current sensor and it is already starting to go that direction. It starts alarming more, dropping signals, etc.
Hello Michelle, Nice to see how organized you are and how you take care of yourself. I need to ask you, because I’ll be using same sensors pretty soon, do you really need the extra grip to keep it in your arm? If not, it doesn’t stay secure in your arm ?...
Hi! It honestly depends on the person and the type of activities you do. For me personally, if it is winter and I'm not super active that week, then I probably wouldn't need extra adhesive. However, I am quite active with my ballet classes, so I typically would need the extra adhesive. I play it safe and use some sort of adhesive with every Dexcom site I put on. There is nothing worse than having a sensor fall off early, especially given the price 😝
Good to know, I do workout at the gym and go for runs...I use freestyle libre which I really like, except doesn’t work with my tslim. Thanks for the advise Michelle , and stay safe!😇
Ahaha well, this really cool friend of mine *cough* YOU *cough* designed it with Pump Peelz!! I actually think this particular design was so popular that it sold out! 👏💙
Does your Dexcom G6 patch ever get itchy? When you removed your patch after 11 days, your skin looks the same as if you weren't wearing the patch. Mine is more red and it certainly itches when I wear it. Any comments?
It depends on the tape. There are some tapes that are very thick and not breathable, and those make my skin itchy. I think since this patch is fabric, it is more breathable. You could also try using the IV3000 dressings. I show them in my "how I get my Dexcom to stay on for 10 days" video. They do not irritate my skin at all, but the problem with those is that you have to replace them about every 5 days. It's a good option though!
Ok let’s see if I get this right. So if I have a low, I have to treat it first. Then if I want to consume a meal I would have to bolus for that. Then wouldn’t I put in my current glucose instead of the low reading I experienced earlier?
Oh my goodness I can't imagine!! I heard that basal rates are changing constantly T1D pregnancy. All the best in your last month! That's so exciting 😀❤️
I would like to, but this is something I really don't feel comfortable telling people how to do since I'm not a medical doctor. I recommend doing it with the help of your diabetes nurse (that's how I started doing it) or another great resource is chapter 6 in the book Think Like a Pancreas. I use that when I do basal testing without the help of my nurse. All the best 😀💞
Hi I am a type 1 and 1/2 diabetic and I am having a hard time with carb counting the other day I just had really bad Lowe's but other than that sometimes through the day I'm perfect do you have any tips or tricks and any recipes that you could help me with and plus your videos helped me out so much with my anxiety
Hi! If you are having a hard time with carb counting, I would look into getting a carb counting app on your phone to help! I have one called "Nutrients" that has been helpful over the past couple years. All the best ❤️ apps.apple.com/ca/app/nutrients-nutrition-facts/id396836856
I just recently found your videos. Been in a type 1 diabetic since 1976. A1C's are always between 5.3 and 6.3 but am considering getting a Dexcom because my fingers are so worn out LOL But I've been hearing horror stories from others about needles bending and other issues. Have you had a problem with that? And another concern-I am a side sleeper and the only place I can place the needle is in my arm because all other sites are shot, or are covered up because I wear firm control pantyhose. Since you placed it in your arm do you sleep on your side and if so has there been an issue with that? I have heard some people say that it does affect their phone or their meters reading the numbers.
Hi!! I'm happy you found my channel! That's amazing control, you should be proud! Dexcom would definitely give your fingers a break. I rarely do a finger poke :)
@@MichelleLord Thanks, can you answer the questions I asked about side sleeping and having a sensor in your arm? And, also about bent needles, please. Those are 2 big concerns for me before I make a decision.
Hello, my son got diagnosed with TD1 a year ago at age 10, in the beginning we had to poke his finger 10 to 11 times a day for 5 months. Then we got the decode G6 and let me tell u dear, that was a game changer for all of us specially for him!!! He is wearing his on his tummy with no problems! I highly recommend u to get it. Hi Michelle, I really enjoyed the video until you said the four letter word......work haha! I have a heck of a time with basal using a pen....but as all of us who work really hard to keep that line tamed, we do our best! Stay safe!
I too feel the ping pong life . I am an essential worker so I have to go outside the home for work which that alone makes me a bit uneasy . But I love your vids as it shows the daily decision making we endure vs what ‘ normal’ people think (we just don’t eat sugar) 😂
I can imagine that would be hard to balance blood sugars being an essential worker right now. Thank you for all that you are doing during this time 💞!! Stay well!
Oh No that does suck. well I am right down the road if you want a Diabuddy I’m the one who takes the Bathurst Bus too! Lol you can always DM me and vent any day! I too work from home, but I do it as a Private home daycare. I can maybe give you some tips on the down time BGs in MMOL.
