I as well have an acer nitro 5 and when I check my display settings it says 60hz which that is the max my laptop display goes, if I were to connect a monitor with higher hz would I be able to change it to the hz that the monitor runs or will my laptop only be able to run 60hz on that external display.

    • @BGDave
      @BGDave  11 месяцев назад +4

      There is no such thing as "Being built for 60hz". While it's true that GPUs are made with specific resolutions and refresh rates in mind, there is no reason to not run your monitor at it's highest available refresh rate. In other words, No. Don't put your external monitor back to 60hz.

    Hi there, I want to get an external monitor because I'm trying to climb games like valorant but I've got to a point where as a 60hz player I'm at a disadvantage to people on 240hz monitors as they can react quicker and have more crispy aim due to smoother gameplay. Instead of buying a whole new PC or gaming laptop, I was thinking of just buying a 144hz external monitor and connecting it up. I already get 90-110fps on valorant, but with an external monitor and potential FPS boost, I'm assuming I'll be able to utilise the refresh rate and have much smoother gameplay. Do you recommend this? Will there be more input delay using an external monitor rather than your laptop monitor?

      Hdmi 2.0 and 1.4 are compatible, but you will be limited by 1.4. The max resolution and refresh rate 1.4 supports is 1080p 144hz.

    For some reasons my laptop screen goes super dimmed whenever i play a game fullscreen on my external monitor. It's seems like its some kind of graphics optimisation. Does anyone knows how to get rid of that ?

    I bought a monitor for my laptop and it works perfectly fine on duplicate and extended display options but when I try to play on the monitor by going to second screen only mode the monitor start stuttering like crazy. I have tried restarting while on 2nd screen and the stuttering goes away but as soon as I change the display settings to either extend or duplicate it stutters again. I’ve been looking for a solution for 3 days now and nothing seems to be a permenant fix. I am currently on win10 but I read on a nvidia forum that win11 solve this issue but I really don’t wanna update only to find out that the stuttering didn’t go away.
    Also does playing on duplicate reduce the performance?

    • @BGDave

      To fix your issue, first navigate to display settings. In the box with the “monitors” click identify. From there select whatever number your external monitor is, scroll down, and select “Make this my main display.” This should fix your issue. Lmk.

    • @BGDave
      @BGDave  Год назад

      Try using a different HDMI on the monitor. If that doesn’t work, try getting a hdmi to DisplayPort adapter and using a DisplayPort port on the monitor. If that doesn’t work, try plugging another device into the monitor such as a console or another PC. If that doesn’t work, send the monitor back to the manufacturer for a replacement. The board or all of the ports are shot. If plugging another device in gets a signal, send your laptop back to its manufacturer. The onboard HDMI is shot.

    I'm playing witcher 3 in my Asus rog. Im getting around 70 fps with my small laptop screen. When i connect it to a external monitor and close the laptop lid, it runs normally with a 99% gpu utilization. Then after some time becomes unplayable when the gpu utilisation goes down to 27%. Any ideas?

    • @BGDave
      @BGDave  11 месяцев назад +2

      You are GPU bound with the 99%. With it dropping to 27% usage and becoming unplayable, as well as having the lid closed, it sounds to me like thermal throttling. The best way to fix this would be to leave your laptop lid open, and in Display settings select “Only show on 2”

    I just bought a new LG monitor, it says to get gsync to work I have to use the displayport 1.4. Now my USB C 3.2 as well as my HDMI 2.1 both are connected directly to my graphics card. If I don't have a displayport on my laptop does that mean I can't get gsync to work? I heard you can use the USB c 3.2 to connect to the monitors displayport. Is that correct?

    • @BGDave
      @BGDave  4 месяца назад

      Typically GSync doesn't work over HDMI, and if it does it limits you to 60hz. I do not have experience with Type C, especially if it's not thunderbolt 3 or 4. Your best bet would be displayport.

      If you’re running your laptop with the monitor plugged in, you should be running with the laptop’s charger plugged in. If you MUST use the monitor without the charger, yes it will use more power, as you’re rendering multiple displays on the laptops processors.
