MY first step is to either yank the HD and do a complete "Original system HD image" which I call a "Pre First-boot Backup". The purpose of this is to be sure that if I ever sell it in the future (it could happen!) I can restore the original OEM image, and give the next guy "That fresh out of the box experience." My friend, my laptop eats too much internet data. In my phone i can restrict data for every app, so that data is only spent on the app i am using, but its so hard to do on the laptop. The thing is we get 2 gb of internet data per day and not have wifi connections. And that 2 gb is spent so fast in this new laptop, how dont know how to completely stop apps from not using my internet data in laptop. When i see usage it tells that system and windows experience feature pack and windows web experience pack, these 3 are mainly consuming all my data, i dont know what program in system is eating data, and windows feature and experience pack is nowhere to be found on laptop. Due to these reasons i am not able to utilise my 2 gb of data on chrome browsing because every second the consumption is increased and my data finishes, so i cant use data on laptop which is causing me problems. So how do i completely restrict internet for these unwanted apps in laptop?😢
not every laptop come with excessive amount of bloatware on them. i bought a Clevo based gaming laptop, and except for the bloatware like candy crush that comes from Microsoft. only other apps were clevo control center and few driver related apps like killer network and creative sound blaster apps. so it also helps if you avoid getting laptops from those big manufacturers, but with those i would probably just reinstall fresh copy of windows.
The first and last thing you need to do with a new pc, is to install Linux and make it dual boot. Personally I prefer Ubuntu, but that's up to you. Job done!
Why dualboot? Just wipe the full disk while installing linux. By using dualboot you will still keep copy of windows on the harddisk, it's just wasting the disk space and potentially dangerous if you boot into it by accident.
I really want the right laptop. The laptop I have, has preinstalled windows 10 and updated it to windows 11 but has very low specs (Very low end cpu, and gpu.) I don’t know why HP likes to sell cheap laptop with low specs.

Glad I could help!
It worked! Tank you sir.
Thanks for this video.. I'ma buy one now...
The first thing that i must do Is reinstall SO because that all bloatware Is a horror.thanks for your video.
Worked , thanks a lot!
Hybrid on is the less demanding version. Hybrid mode off uses the dedicated GPU.
I like to scan first, using a bootable antivirus. One laptop I bought 20 years ago from a dealer in Manchester was infected. I called them and told them. Looking back perhaps I could have done more, but I don't know what.
Great video, one tip though:to remove windows bloatware like Xbox game bar, phone link, get help etc. use free program OOABD.
Quality content thank you
Thanks Brian.
Excellent tips for anyone wishing to setup their newly purchased laptop.
Glad it was helpful!
I would liketo see more info on setting up a new laptop. I have a HP. Thank you for your videos
Good one!🍻
Thank you! Cheers!
I personally reformat it and reinstalled the fresh OS with the latest update on Windows 11 flash drive.
Nice
Thank you. I have the exact same laptop
so good very informative video
Glad you think so!
It's really better to make an installer disk with the media creation tool and do a fresh install of the machine. All that bloatware will leave residu on the system even after removing.
Thank you so much for the walkthrough, I am just about the most computer illiterate person ever and been needing help to set up my new Legion. Quick question, I got the exact same laptop you did, is there any way to add RGB to it? I believe the trade off I made was to give up a bit of res and no RGB but backlit keyboard instead. I was bummed but everything else at this price point had way lesser specs.
Hi. Been fixing these things, for 30 + years. WHENEVER a used machine, comes home: 1. Boot up, check whats on it 2. Save any good programs, and FORMAT the hard drive. ONLY INSTALL WHAT IS REQUIRED...... 3. NO more problemos'..........
Him do you review for the legion 5 performance?
If you are buying a laptop from online the first you gotta do is to check the warranty date,if it is already claimed before the purchase time, you can reclaim it with customer support(YOU WILL NEED YOUR INVOICE) for proof
It is a good idea to keep the software from the manufacturer (Dell, HP, Lenovo) installed.
Yes
@12:18 i would love to see a tutorial of you installing the lite version! and a step by step guide maybe?
Is there any need to run a hard drive check for bad sectors with a new laptop,,,,for any manufacturing/shipping/droppage damage?
You are the man Brian, you are so good to me without you knowing it... Love you man... Just got an Asus Vivo ook x515ea_f515ea and with your tips, did make lots differences... Taa 👍
Can you do a video, about OS Preinstalled vs Another OS you want have in a laptop or PC computer, Windows 10 Home vs Windows 10 Pro, or Windows 10 Home vs Ubuntu Studio, in other words, preinstalled OS on a new computer, has any advantage over the other OS you wanted instead, and you go and use the latter than the preinstalled OS…?
I recently got the Lenovo Legion 5 ( Ryzen 5600H, RTX 3060, 17" screen). Soon after start using it, I noted that something was severly draining the battery while it was "turned off". The culprit was the mouse and keyboard wake up computer "feature". Turning both off amended the isue. I guess that this would affect any lenovo similar model. It Maybe be worthy to check it out.
Hi im experience that too. Can you direct me to how to go to that features?
@@nothman777 basically on Device Manager... look for keyboard and/or mouse... on the Power Management tab, just uncheck "allow this device to wake the computer.
@@nothman777 you can check before and after which devices are allowed to wake up your computer running thi command on the CMD: powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
I also use SpyBot Anti-Beacon. Shuts down all telemetry. I am shutting down 520 different telemetry points with it. It reverses all Windows Update attempts to turn things back on automatically.
Hi brother, You always make a very useful video for viewers 😍😍
The first thing I do when I buy a brand new laptop is do a disk image of the OS hard drive, format it and then install a Linux OS on it.
What a waste
lol... Windoze proprietary software is a disease, distributed & licensed by parasites.
Too much time on your hands my guy
Thx for information
Welcome
Hey thanks for the video, how good is this laptop for a hardcore gamer?
Very good, RTX 3060 so it should be great. I do a review of it.
@@Britec09 legend, thank you
Does Open-Shell work in Windows 11 to improve the start menu?
Thank you
Nice video Brian !! Thank you mate !!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
First things I do On a brand new pc/laptop or after formatting it is uninstall all the bloatware, Update everything ,set configurations for max performance, I strengthen Windows Antivirus , make a minimal UI customization only from Settings>Personalization , not to forget a full system back-up before starting to use the pc/laptop and that's it , no need for extra software.
Hi i just bought this laptap quick question you can use the laptap evenit is charging or wait for 100% before using it?
Thnks
My friend, my laptop eats too much internet data.
Another great video with good info...you should also disable fast startup in the power settings. I always have this disabled.
Lmao imagine having such a trash laptop that you’re forced to use Linux.
I really want the right laptop. The laptop I have, has preinstalled windows 10 and updated it to windows 11 but has very low specs (Very low end cpu, and gpu.) I don’t know why HP likes to sell cheap laptop with low specs.
because people buy them, and HP makes profits... and even more if you have to go buy another one.
i still image up the OS partition after I have finished tuning - so I can revert to a known good state without having to reinstall and redo the steps after a misfortune, its better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it...
Great. Video I too like the windows 7 feel that you give on the tutorial. Don’t plan on gaming but do want to get a decent pc for multitasking. I’d have loads of screens open for sports / RUclips / word processing would you use a bigger monitor too for more work and visual space.
Any suggestions on what minimum specs I’d need ?
First thing i do is wipe windows and install either Arch Linux or Fedora Linux with with KDE Plasma !!
2:10 Not all brands have bloatware. Example: Eluktronics
in my legion 5 pro (5800h-3060) Webcam is not detected and Integrated graphics is not showing in the task manager. what should I do?
Just bought a new laptop, and in the middle of following your instructions, I noticed backlight bleeding in the bottom right, it wasn't there before I even did the LCD test !
What to do now !
Great review what do you think of laptop coolers ?
so hybrid mode is Mux switch? i didnt understand that i am new in thios gaming world
Thanks a lot
my acer, which I am writing this from, came bundled with firefox of all things, a lot I did not remove, messenger was preinstalled which is great, although it did keep installing express vpn, which was annoying, forcing me to do a fresh install, but doing this I have to manually download the propper sound driver in order to use acer true harmony as the generic realtec driver does not do it, I recommend anyone with an aspire5 download the audio driver from acer so you have access to that great sound quality if you decide to do a fresh install. that firefox you get is different too as its acers custom firefox
long time viewer, thank you for all the great information.
Is there a simple way to identify bloatware to insure I done remove any necessary files or applications?
Many thanks
Do you have to update Invidia driver as well?
Can i use right away my new laptop without charging it, or need to fully charge before using it?
I'm just a first time user
Great video, altho I expected you to mention "make a backup ISO image of the window you get fresh with the laptop incase anything happens since its optimized for the hardware it comes with" or is that a false thing I know about?
1:55 I just bought an ASUS laptop, it was new, no applications 🤷♂️
