    To everyone wondering why it's better to back up the stock settings from the factory is because all drivers that were installed when you bought it are optimal for the laptop. If you fresh install windows we have to download the drivers which is newer than the stock ones which may or may not mess up the current state of the system. Not to mention windows updates are known to cause issues so yeah. Its up to you really whichever you prefer.

      @upperdecker1750 Hello UpperDecker1750, I recommend this for ALL laptops, after you have made the clone, you can safely un-install the software as the clone is done.

      Hello Sebastian, if your PC is still working well, don't worry too much about the fact that you have connected to the internet, you may proceed to do the clone now.
      Try not to delay any longer, the longer you delay, the more junk accumulates in your system.
      Hope that helps Sebastian Rocks.

      @BracerJack ur welcome!! oh i wanna ask btw
      if my laptop atm is an acer aspire v5 and wanted plan to restart it when i already have a new laptop, would its operating system goes back to its original ver (windows 8) from the its current version i have changed a few yrs ago (windows 10) ???

      @prince24117 5 years ago +4

      I legit got a new laptop 4 days ago, but this still helps so much, I'll do this tomorrow, am Acer aspire 7, btw, how much space should we have in the external drive??

    • @BracerJack
      @BracerJack  5 years ago +9

      @monojeon It you are talking about the built in windows restart, then it will ONLY restore to your most recent windows 10 update, not to the original pristine condition when you just got your laptop, that is why knowing this video is so useful, you will forever have the actual clone with you.

    • @BracerJack
      @BracerJack  5 years ago +2

      @prince24117 I hope you are having fun using your new laptop ! The space you will need depends entirely on what is currently in your computer, so I cannot give you an estimate here.

      Sir
      I bought laptop tow day ago
      I did connected internet connection and created windows account and updated windows to windows 11
      After that one youtuber suggested an
      app called driver booster
      I updated all drivers which were shown by that app
      Can I redo everything
      Can I go back to earlier settings before that app installed
      Or at very first state ( the state where pendrive backup suggest by you)
      Please suggest any solution
      I think after driver update by that app
      My battery backup is halved

    To prevent the idea that your computer is slowing down, check your power options and turn off the "Turn on fast start up" option. This option does not allow your computer to fully cycle through a starting process. It bypasses small updates and special driver refreshes that are needed. Also, The Sleep option is worse for your battery than Hibernate. So be conscious of your power options and you will have a better time.

  • @pressfinchat
    @pressfinchat 3 months ago +5

    Update 3 years later: This video has saved me a total of 3 times. First when I installed a virus. Second when my PC suffered slow boot and blue screens. Third when I installed a second virus right after I wrote the image. Cannot emphasize how useful a pristine system image is. I no longer worry about "what ifs" when I suffer errors or viruses because I can just nuke everything. This overwrites everything bit by bit so there's no room for viruses or errors to persist. And if errors do persist, then I know for certain it's a hardware issue. And all I have to pay for it is a single day of reinstalling all my stuff instead of weeks and months stressing over errors and/or viruses. I cannot imagine where I'd be if this video hadn't found me when it did 3 years ago, right when I had gotten my new laptop. Thank you so, so much!

    • @BracerJack

      Thank you for sharing your story.
      I have two system images.
      One for PURE OS only, no nonsense.
      One for OS + all the programs I definitely will use.
      I usually revert to the image with all my programs installed when I need to.....which is once every month.
      Clean system every month! Yeah :-)
      And THANK YOU for sharing your story!!!

    • @pressfinchat
      @pressfinchat 3 months ago +2

      @BracerJack Yeah, I tried that but the image's file size gets so much bigger versus just stock (e.g., 200gb vs. 14gb). Image backup takes forever, and my programs suite changes all the time. Image restore also takes forever (e.g., 5 hours vs. 2-7 minutes), so any interruptions while restoring could be devasting. That's why I just restore stock quickly and just reinstall everything. How do you personally circumvent these problems?

    • @BracerJack

      @pressfinchatYou must be doing a lot of comfyUI a.i. stuff or you have a LOT of steam games.... 😂

    I did this a week ago to my 9 year old laptop. It was always blowing the fan really loud for no reason lately. Reverted it back to 2014 and after a day of catching up to 9 years of updates, now it's nice and quiet again. Was gonna buy a new laptop this year if this didn't help, luckily it did. Really recommend this.
    Also don't bother waiting to create the image until after you've customized it with all the programs that you like to use because they're going to be so out of date they won't even update anymore so you'd have to uninstall them anyway and it just makes the image bigger than it has to be.

      @BracerJack just wanted to update. The fan noise came back not very long after. Seems my hardware isn't compatible with the codecs youtube uses, simply too old, and thus they put a large strain on the CPU, so unfortunately reverting to old image doesn't always fix it.

    For those complaining about the OOB snapshot being out of date, you can use Macrium Reflect at ANY time to back up your machine this way, so you'll always have a current system image to return to. Of course, this would require a larger backup disk (usb, external drive, etc). Once backed up, you can even remove the OEM restore image if allowed, knowing you have a better version of the system image available.

      How big of an external hard drive does this require?

    • @djjoeyr
      @djjoeyr 3 years ago +3

      @kylecurry1410 for a drive dedicated to these types of backups, I would ensure it is at least double the size of the hard drive you wish to back up. If larger, it affords you the option of keeping multiple point in time backups to return to at any time.

    • @kylecurry1410
      @kylecurry1410 3 years ago +3

      @djjoeyr Awesome thank you. Does the external hard drive have to be dedicated to this or can I store other files on it as well?

    • @djjoeyr
      @djjoeyr 3 years ago +3

      @kylecurry1410 You CAN copy/backup individual files to it as well, providing it is large enough. But I'd use it primarily for the system image backup.

      Weird how dust get between components,
      Am I living in the desert?

    • @EironKyle
      @EironKyle 5 years ago +44

      @someoneyouneverknow7529 dust in itself is weird. It always accumulates itself especially on places which don't experience much activity. Not using laptop for a month could lead to dust build up inside it, but it's very unlikely that it would reach to the point where performance would be affected. It'd takes years of not using a laptop for that to happen.

    • @BracerJack
      @BracerJack  4 years ago +55

      Hello Tyler, if your laptop is still working reasonably well, it might be to your advantage to make a clone of it nonetheless so that under any possible worst case scenario, you will always have this moment to return back to, it may no longer be "manufacture state" perfect, but at least you can still revert it to its current functional state if anything happens to your laptop.

      @tyler-qr5jn 4 years ago +15

      But yes, now that you have a clone done, you ain't afraid of any infections anymore.

  • @ElectroPig
    @ElectroPig 2 years ago +10

    Nice to know someone else does that, too! I started doing a "pre-first-boot backup" so that I never even get to the initial setup boot before my first backup is done. Exact same process, only my first boot is from the USB stick.
    The reason I started doing that is because if I ever sell the laptop, I can either give it a "new out of the box experience" for whoever buys it, or I can pull the HD/SSD, replace it with a new one, and restore the original PRE-1st-Boot system image, while not wasting time worrying about lost files, as I keep the original drives with me.
    It works out to the same as having OEM reinstall disks...which NOBODY includes in the box any more, and most wont' even sell them to you, even if you're willing to pay extra for them!

    • @BracerJack
      @BracerJack  2 years ago +2

      YES This this this !
      I also made a clone right after purchase for this very reason, if you ever decide to sell it, you reclone it back to the original "just purchased" state so that the next user will also have the exact "just purchased" state of the laptop.
      I miss those oem disks...

    • @ElectroPig
      @ElectroPig 2 years ago +2

      @BracerJack There are so few of us who understand the need for doing a regular backup...even less of us who think as far ahead as to even have the concept of a pre-first-boot backup...even AFTER you explain it to them! d;o)
      Over 20 years...first time I ever found anyone else who understood the concept, let alone who did it! \\=^D
