Fantastic video, as always. I'm a huge fan of The GlenDronach distillery and their expressions. The Cask Strength is an outstanding single malt, no question about it. I also enjoy the Port Wood, which probably ranks 3rd or 4th for me. My favorite used to be the 15-year-old from the first relaunch, before it was discontinued and brought back. It had older whisky in the bottle back then, similar to the current 18-year-old, which is now my favorite. The 21-year-old is fantastic but can be a bit of a "one trick pony" with its strong sherry influence. Not long ago, they removed "non-chill filtered" from the label and started filtering the lineup. It's a different distillery and ownership these days. The older, non-chill filtered bottlings are incredible, and thankfully, I still have a few. Not surprised at all the 12-year-old came in last. Cheers!
Even though it is still a good single malt, it is my understanding that it has fallen out of favor with a lot of people once they changed ownership. I am still trying to get my hands on the 18. Cheers!
Thanks for the review! My only taste of GlenDronach is the PortWood and for me, I did not enjoy it and as a result, I have not tried any other GlenDronach yet. After watching your flight, I may give it another try.. Maybe the 15 - BTW, as part of the giveaway, perhaps an additions incentive would be the recipe for the ribs 😊
Thanks. I went out yesterday and picked up the 18. It would have been nice to get this into the flight, but I'm looking forward to trying it either way. I guess it's only matured in Oloroso and not Oloroso and PX like the others. Have you had the 18?
@@whiskeyisajourney Hey fabulous Peter! Joel and I do enjoy the 18! I think the Oloroso is lovely! I am really interested to hear what you think! I hope you are having a super awesome weekend! Say "Hi" to Mary Bridget!! :-) Lol! You two feel like old friends! Love your videos! Cheers!! :-)
Glendronach treats me well every time. BUT ... Glendronach 12 hack... add a small splash of the Aberlour A'Bunadh, non Alba. Wow. Really kicks it up a few notches. Like being hit with a sherry bomb spice weasel.
Ahhhh memories.. the first video I watched of yours was the "Top 5 Sherry finished Whisky" I was drinking my Glendronach batch 11 and you were reviewing the 10.. I since have finished that bottle of batch 11 still haven't opened my 10 or back up 11... but since then I haven't missed a video and watched ya back catalogue so cheers for the memories, I'm hunting the batch 12 Glendronach before I open 10 and 11.... Cheers Peter 🥃 ✌🥃 Dram on buddy
Thank you Matt. After the video went live Lorenz commented I needed to pick up the 18. He went as far as checking a Total Wine in my area and found a bottle (he is in California). He posted a comment in the video and told me they had it. I went and got it that day. Obviously, I did not have it for the video, but I think it would have done well.
@@whiskeyisajourney Nice work the hunt is half the fun I reckon... I commented on some Tasmanian Whisky bottles you should find wondering if you had any luck in finding those.
Hi Peter, greetings from Mexico. I've recently started following your channel, but I loved the content you create and immediately subscribed. I like the way you describe aromas and flavors; it's very illustrative for those of us who haven't tried that bottle. You see, I'm starting in the world of bourbon, and I would love to see a guide made by you that explains the different types of bourbons and the different types of flavor profiles, such as sweet, spicy, rich, oak, nutty, etc. It would be great if you could provide examples of different options for each type in various price ranges.
Thanks for the feedback. I think they already make tasting cards similar to what you mentioned. Let me look into this idea more and see what I can come up with. Cheers!
@@whiskeycross3222 got it. I appreciate the help. I picked up the 18 today. It would have been nine to have gotten it into this flight. I noticed that it was matured only in Oloroso only and no PX.
@@whiskeyisajourney Yes, that's a good one, less sweet but more figs and raisons. The GlenDro15 use to be only oloroso a few years ago and then they switched it to both Oloroso & PX. They may be running low on quality Oloroso casks so I hope they don't do the same with the 18yr. Cheers!
Thanks! I've got a new sauce for the chicken. Hopefully it does better this time. I'm doing my last brisket test cook tomorrow and then we let the chips fall where they may on the 15th. Cheers!
Love Glendronach. Great vid That Bunna 2022 CS was special. Still have an open one and 2 bunkered. Skipped on the 2023. Have you had the Bunna 2023 CS?
I just bought a bottle of batch 11 today and loved every bit of the dram. But… maybe about 30 minutes later I’m getting a metallic note in the back of my tongue. Have you ever experienced anything like this?
Very nice flight fight Peter, but where is one of the top contenders... The Allardice 18..? I'm currently enjoying the cask strength Batch 12 which I picked up about 7 months ago. So safe to assume it's still being produced..? IMHO, the Batch 10 you have and the Batch 11 are both exceptional releases, better than the 12..!!! Cheers 🥃
Unfortunately, I could not get my hands on a bottle of the 18. I will continue to look for it. Maybe once I get it I can put it into a bottle battle with the CS Batch 10. Cheers!
i miss your class mr fasciano
I've seen Batch Strength #11 on shelves, here in Las Vegas. And Batch Strength #12 is out, in the UK at least.
Good to know they are continuing the releases. Cheers!
The 15yo is excellent 🥃
They are all good. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. Cheers!
I absolutely love Glendronach 15.
It's a good one. Cheers!

@@whiskeyisajourney Indeed. It's the older non-chill filtered bottlings that you want to hunt down. They are still out there.
I will keep an eye out for the older bottles.

It means natural color from the cask only
I guess I should have clarified. I understand the cask influence, but I also wonder if it also means no E150
