Came for the whiskey, stayed for the wisdom. Cheers!
I'm doing my childhood dream job and have been for 32 years now. I'm a truck driver playing traffic and loving life. Keep it up brother.
A goal that depends on someone else doing something is not a goal, it is a hope. That resonates powerfully.
As a teacher. I wish I could play this for my students. What Daniel said about goals and hopes is so true, and very well said.
well over 30 years in Architecture & Engineering... commercial building design.. never celebrated the completion of any.. too many simultaneously going on... so cheers to me.. I am semi-retired 🥃
I watched this on the day it dropped. Went to my favourite whisky den and there it was. First case I seen. Amazing whisky. So I had to watch this again for my first sip.
Fantastic video and an important message. I hope you are able to celebrate the impact these videos have on the community.
100% agree with you on Glendronach. Nursing a bottle of 12 right now.
I just became a L1 Whisky Som! 🎉🎉🎉 Thanks Daniel 👍🥃
This one came atthe right time, thank you.
Wow, definitely great advice. I can be hard when you just want to keep pushing to let yourself stop and celebrate. Thank you for the wise words and another great conversation 🥃😉
Could not agree more. Both with the wisdom and the whisky!
Glendronach 12 is an amazing whisky for a great price. I always have it at home. And it´s been a lot of bottles already.
Great inspiration Daniel.
Thanks for the video 🥃
Good to walk through goals and a bit of life. Love this release. Almost always on my shelf. Thanks for sharing a bit of wisdom. Stop. Sit. Enjoy. I did it. It is now done! Cheers!
Great message about celebration... and I need to find that Glendronach 12.
Not to sound preachy, but this is what I love about being Catholic. We have a million feast days to celebrate all sorts of things 🙌
Sometimes, just sometimes, we are fortunate enough to succeed without having a goal. In 22 years as a US Navy Intelligence Officer, I honestly never had a goal I could write down, yet I had a wonderful and successful career. I absolutely loved my work and I was damn good at it. Did I go as far as I hoped, no, but can still hold my head high at not compromising the truth to tell someone in a higher position than I what they wanted to hear instead of the facts that were inconvenient to them. To those who need goals, good on you. For those of us who don't, let's simply celebrate life!
Life lessons with Daniel.! Always enjoyable
I would add aspirations are also not goals but can lead you to goals.
Thank you for the TED Talk. Didn’t expect it but turned out to be exactly what I needed to hear today.
Cheers 🍻
Glendronach is the whisky that introduced me to whisky. My wife and I were location scouting for our wedding, and she randomly picked this off the desert menu at a steakhouse. It was life changing. I had no idea whisky could taste like this.
I heard they were closing back in... 2015? So I bought a case and a half of Glendronach 15. They may be some of the last bottles of the old distiller left on earth. I opened one with you today.
I personally much prefer the 15 over the 12, but everything Glendronach is great.
I have always said that Glendronach 21 is the best tasting money I've ever had. I get a bottle for my birthday most years. It brings a tear to my eye every time I get a bottle, and every time I drink from that bottle.
I'm actually Celebrating my birthday today.. day off work and nice pour in my Glen.. getting ready for the weekend.... Cheers Whisky Wizard 🥃🧙♂️🎉🥃
John Hume's Don't Forget. The opening song of Welcome to Wrexham matches what you are saying perfectly. Thank you for the reminder.
I hope you can celebrate now. From my view, you have accomplished your goal of the Whiskey Vault!
That's legitimately good advice. I appreciate the reminder to celebrate achievements, which I struggle with since there's always more to do. You're right that it never looks like what you expected when you actually arrive.
I also enjoyed seeing you get as excited about this dram as I get about my favorites
Such a great point here about celebrating the wins along the journey. I’ve been building companies for a decade and we developed a shorthand language around this at my latest startup - finding “champagne moments.” As we’ve gone from 10 to 150 employees, we make time to pop bottles with everyone. And of course, a group of us whiskey nerds uncork something a special
Another great video!! Truly appreciate your knowledge and your delivery of the point. Well done sir.
Love me some Glendronach. Have a 2017 bottling of the 18.
Billy Walker made Glendronach what it is and current management is doing everything they can to keep that profile. IMO Glenallachie is the new Glendronach thanks to Billy Walker.
My love for glendronach Is my favorite scotch…that being said I’ve had everything but the core 12 from them, the 15 is amazing
tiene mucho sentido (makes a lot of sense) que te vayas bien (farewell)
Fabulous message Daniel!! I do a lot to help others in life and I never acknowledge or celebrate my achievements! I need to!! You rock Daniel!! You are a wise awesome soul!! Hey this is a nice dram for a 12 year old scotch!! It’s not bad. Not my fave but there are some lovely favours and the price it’s a very. Good deal!! $80 Canadian before taxes!!! Now a dud is Loch alimony 12. Wowza. I tried it yesterday and wish I had skipped the LL 12 and chosen a better scotch, preferably Islay!!! Peat head here! It’s a very unappealing scotch. Fairly inexpensive for scotch but not even worth the $75 before taxes. Fabulous video!!
The 12 year is my go to daily drinker scotch. Affordable (relatively speaking) and so good.
Sorry for the typos!! My spell check web rogue!!
Love Macallan 12 but don’t love the price! The Glendronach 12yr might the worth the switch 👀 cheers 🥃
I visited Benriach in April and did their Grapes and Grains experience. It was glorious. I got to sample a bottle from 1978 that was matured in *Barolo* casks. That’s not something you see every day!
One of my favorites! Too expensive now $100 a bottle. I can play more than 3 chords on guitar!
The snozzberries taste like snozzberries😂🥃
How is it that I always seem to buy the right bottles at the right time. It’s been 6 or more years since I bought a bottle of Glendronnach. Last week I bought the 12 and the 15. Opening the 12 right now….
Don't have the 12... the 15 will have to do. 🥃 Cheers!
I'm actually kinda surprised Glendronach hasn't made an appearance in so long.
Thirst!!!
3/5 stars wouldn't change a thing
Reminds me of the joke about the circus guy who was always complaining about having to clean up after the elephants. People told him to quit if he hated shoveling elephant poop. His reply? “ No, I don’t want to wit show business!”
A mentor of mine one day taught me about SMART goals.
Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Relevant
Timely
It’s a pretty good framework for goal setting and tracking.
"This is the after of the before."
I could have used this dad-knowledge 25 years ago...
Goals... what is a goal?
Clear - no ambiguity
Defined - has specific levels of accomplishment
Timed - has a specific begin and end date and time
(Goals without specific time end points are not goals. They're dreams.)
Purpose - a "why" as to the reason you want something accomplished
Rewards - what's in it for you and at what specific points.
WRITTEN DOWN - if your goal is not written down, you'll never achieve it because it allows latitude for shift.
Set a goal.
Create a plan to accomplish the goal including check points and level parameters.
Work the plan.
Evaluate your results.
Adjust the plan.
Work the plan.
When you hit your accomplishment levels, reward yourself with the specific promised rewards.
Really share the same love for Glendronach, ever sense BW left people are sleeping on them. I get all of these notes amped up to 10 with the decadence and richness on the 21 that came out after mothball.
Hey Daniel, curious if you’re aware in the blending world, if blends of new makes followed by aging is a thing anyone is doing. Do you see pros or mostly cons with that approach. Would you feel confident that a good blended new make would turn into what you wanted or is the unknown end product part of the magic of that sort of experimental process?
It's currently one style of how they handle things in some Canadian distilleries
Not related to the video (sorry), but recently read an interview of a guy that served during WW II, who received a bottle of "the best bourbon available" as a reward for a particular task, but the bourbon itself wasn't named. Any idea what bourbon would fit that description, around 1944?
honestly no idea :-)
133👍
“I’ll just drink this whiskey, which to me is celebrating.” So you celebrate about three times a week that we get to see? Just joking. And as I was thinking it, you basically said what I was thinking-celebrate those “mini goals” you achieve on the path to achieving your larger goals
We're just going to let "Back when I was eating meat..." go under the radar? In Texas? I've always known Daniel was a masochist.
Welcome all Whiskey Vaulters to Story Time, celebration edition, with Daniel!
