I appreciate your transparency in revealing that the bottle is donated by a rep and that you don’t ask for bottles. I wish all Whiskey Tubers were as honest.
@@vagabondwastrel2361 The Mooch flows through me. However I admit whiskey is simply better when shared with others and part of why I enjoy the Whiskey Tube community.
I'm trying the 12 yr in 2022 and there's no doubt this is different now. Not only is mine significantly darker, it's SPICY for a Speyside. Surprisingly good.
Just found the channel less than a month ago and went from no whiskey to about 7 bottles...been binge watching love the content and the evolution of the show. Daniel went from being uncomfortable around Rex to just expectant of all the shenanigans. I love when Rex really likes a whiskey or is really thinking about flavors he starts groping the the air balls.
Glad to see these on the channel. I got a bottle of 12yo and the 15yo. I prefer the 12 but I’ve enjoyed them both (a little water does wonders for both). I’m officially a fan and deciding what to buy next from the distillery
Glenallachie is a Scotch I would be happy to have the whole range in my collection. Love this stuff. The ralfy barrel was great too - 13yr old CS Oloroso puncheon (in the US) port cask (in the UK).
!!!! Thank you for finally being the person to show me the song that played for vh1 or MTV back in the early 2000's. I've always sang "what's goin on!!" randomly & never knew what the song was called. Just knew it played in between music videos or after commercial breaks in the early mornings before school.
I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I miss the grand master mooch days😢 It was simpler times back then. Riding the wave of fresh popularity as a new whiskey channel was an amazing journey to witness. I loved when the shenanigans was on the vault channel just as much as the tribe channel. Biscuit wars, mooch week, chad week and all. That being said, it’s been a hell of a journey since then and I’ve loved every second. I’ve learned so much about whiskey, it’s production, everything in-between from you guys the last few years. I enjoy the obscure craft bottles just as much as the big names. Cheers to another four years!
The reason adding water has such a strong effect is (I think) because the flavour compounds in whisky have different solubilities in a water and in alcohol - when you add water, the compounds which are less soluble in water come out of solution and become tiny droplets of the pure compound making them more accessible to the tongue and nose. It's like the "louche" produced when you add water to Absinthe or Ouzo - the water releases minute drops of "oils" making the liquid appear cloudy.
Definitely pay them a visit if you can! I've been there last year and took the tasting tour. They put a lot of effort into it since they're still young and small. We got 5 pours, I would guess around 50-60 ml each, and amongst them were I think 16, 24 and 26 y/o whiskeys. I have to admit there was no way I finished them all. But I'm happy to report that they have small bottles to take home the rest. Oh and that's not mentioning the free samples we got during the tour...Our walk back to the pension turned out quite fun :D
What a nice video. Scotch, some comparisons, time taken to explore... beautiful! I also like Glen Allachie, although the label bothers me. It looks like its written by a 4 years old or found in a prehistoric cave. Cheers!
Need to rewatch this later. I'm on my second bottle of the 12, love it... been lucky enough to get both of them at the newer, darker versions. Also got a 15 more recently but still wrapping my head around it. From the top of my head I actually prefer the 12 (love red fruits in my whisky)... but when I drink them side by side, the finish on the 12 pales in comparison to the 15's... I also think my 15 may need a little more time to breath. It's definitely heavier on the wood, spice and tannins, but in a very good way. I also noticed some mint on the finish which I don't remember tasting on the 12. Damn fine whiskies both of them.
I got so distracted by Daniel's eyebrow 🤣🤣 the inside of the eyebrow went up rather than the outside when he raised it 🤣🤣 I have never seen that before. Yall always keep us laughing. Great reviews and content!
"We met him in Rhode Island in... anyway..." Always nice when my home state is such a memorable location. I know you both enjoyed your brief visit AND that all of us had a wonderful time at Irene's location in CT where we got to sample many wonderful whiskies. I look forward to being able to share a dram with you both in person once again someday, until then I am looking forward to the Bastards Ball! 🖖
Daniel!! Keep an eye Out because Glenallachie did a special single cask release for Ralfy.(He named GlenAllachie his malt of the year back a few years ago) It was a Single Cask from a Port Pipe and was 13y/o!
Damn... I was dying when you brought up Capt. Crunch. When I was first trying this expression a year ago, I was laughing about the note being in there.
Great review on GlenAllachie range and I’m smiling as you pick up on the non typical Speyside notes in these bottles and the single cask notes and cask profile (which I have ... and agree with Daniel - 100%) .... good job 👍🏻🥃
went to the distillery last week, very firendly people. gotta reccomend the 10yr old port cask. its slightly better than the 11 yr old port and less money
David Keir ( I believe it was David) came to my local wine and spirits store for a sampling of Glen Allachie. I had their full range and it was excellent (and David was a great presenter and entertainer). Solid Speyside on my list.
just a thought...the age statement on the bottle refers to the youngest whisky but there could be older casks included. This is why the comparison with a single cask from just one years becomes so interesting. Billy Walker has a reputation for brilliant management of casks, which is what made Glen Dronach so popular. Their 15 and 18 year old certainly contained whisky which was considerably older.
I like when you guys do whisky from reps as it’s often well distributed stuff that we can get actually get our hands on after watching the review. Love the American craft reviews but impossible to find around the globe
I suggest that Daniel wears a neon pink shirt with orange wide leg trousers for reviews of whiskeys that have "funk" in their notes. Let's have the outfit match what's in the glass!
Fun fact: that 2006 GlenAllachie is the US import brother of the whisky that was specifically made to commemorate Ralfy's 10 years anniversary for his work by GlenAllachie n Billy Walker himself. See ralfy review 786 Extras
I like your show a lot. Honesty is a good thing. One thing I would like to know is how the shelf behind you that lights the bottles from the bottom is built or purchased? Thanks Mike
From what I can find the normal 12 has virgin oak, px and olorroso casks in it. The single cask one is just virgin oak. Explains the fruit and oiliness difference.
do batch 5 10year old cask strength for your Greek friend right here, not even 100 bottles arrived in Greece and i got my hands on 2 of them, just want to see your thoughts on this amazing spirit
Well also, is the single cask finished in any WY? I don't think ya said so... GLA is always going after finishing and leans on the dark fruit wine flavors Billy seems to like. So you probably saw more - distillery character. And less cask influence/mold?
Funny that you mentioned in-distillery blending to achieve flavour consistency since the 12 has gone through a pretty major flavour shift between the (I assume dominantly bourbon cask or virgin oak) batch you guys reviewed here, and the 2 I've had, which were PX, oloroso, and virgin oak and are pretty dramatically darker than the one you reviewed.
Shame you guys didnt get to review the new 12 year old (sept bottling) , darker in colour, more sherry influence, even better in taste. Billy and the team are doing amazing things
I thought I listened to an old episode as I could remember them talking about the Rep and Whiskey bottle thing previously and then I saw that it was a new one. But still, according to my memory, they almost quote themselves from whatever episode that was....
There was that set of episodes Daniel wore a cream colored collard shirt because he was going to get a tattoo later and didnt want a tight fitting shirt. I think that is the only time i've seen it lol.
I think the black v-neck is now the traditional vault uniform, and I think it would be that much more rewarding for Daniel to "dress up" for other things if he keeps wearing his uniform for The Vault.
I think this kinda makes sense! I mean more alcohol means less of anything else that's adding flavour to the whiskey!? I mean 100% vol is pure alcohol and flavourless right!!??
Daniel should suit up with the monocle and a walking cane. The cane should have a glass holder. Also braid the beard. Maybe a top hat to complete the ensemble. Or if you need a little more fancy and less formal, you could go pirate like Capt Jack Sparrow.
Last time I went into Total Wine to get something, the employee who asked me if he could help me, ended up complimenting me on giving him knowledge about scotches. That being said, I have no idea what "Malt Funk" is.
I really appreciate that Daniel does a "malt funk or not" moment with all scotches now, because its my least favorite note ever and I want to know what to avoid like the plague. To me it presents as an awful peanut butter and vomit mixture.
I appreciate your transparency in revealing that the bottle is donated by a rep and that you don’t ask for bottles. I wish all Whiskey Tubers were as honest.
I am always honest about how I don't know wtf I am doing and I want all the whiskey.
Just be honest and say you asked for bottles. I have zero qualms about people asking for freebies.
Just don't complain if you don't get them.

Been waiting on a Glenallachie review! I love my bottle of the 12. They seem to be doing things right there with natural color and no chill filtering.
They still do some form of filtering because if you add water it doesnt go that misty. Just slightly opaque.
@@ahpadtIt will certainly be barrier filtered. You don't get the same kind of Scotch mist in any whiskies these days like you used to.
I had a bottle of the 15 a few years ago and it remains, in my opinion, the best single malt scotch under $100
Glenallachie are doing some interesting things ! The 2nd Batch 10yo CS is the favourite so far 😍
I'm not sure which batch I had, but whatever it was the 10y CS is fabulous.
Please try Batch 3, its much much better then Batch 2. Let it get some air to oxidize and it will be faboulous!!!
Try the new batch 4
You will literally shit

Underrated Speyside. Love the 12 for easy sipping but not skimping out on nice complexity.

Can we get back to the Daniel Whittington Fedora?
1:24 if you don't like the whisky and say it, the importer still wins. Now they know to import less of it. It's a win-win for them.

Hi Guys.. I do like your reviews, are you doing any research about whisky and distillery before recording or you going to wild improvisation about it?
I wonder how the Austin Whisky Vault compares to Ralfy's decades-old collection. We should do a video walkthrough of both and compare them.
I’m just picturing Billy Walker taking a sample out of a cask at glenallachie and saying “Yes! There’s the captain crunch note I was going for”
Daniel: Speyside is not my favorite......never seen him more enthusiastic about the difficult to find flavors🤣
Screw the T-shirt, wear the Smoking Onesie you got for Christmas a couple years back!
FIREBALL ONESIE!💪🏻😍
Goodbye Glendronach, hello GlenAllachie
I'm all in with the ZFP!
I say Daniel should combine it, the fashion ZFP wear combo fashionable clothes that don't go together, but are comfortable.
If Daniel comes in looking like Frank-N-Furter, he MUST be on display. He made a good Ming the Merciless. F-N-F would be off the hook!
I always love the awkward moments of silence.
The song is "What's up"
A sequined onesy would rock hard.
Daniel, I wear many black v-necks with jeans or shorts. Keep at it, bud. That is my style wity zero f#cks
Dan! Stay with the black shirt. Don't you ever kill the vibe.
There was that set of episodes Daniel wore a cream colored collard shirt because he was going to get a tattoo later and didnt want a tight fitting shirt. I think that is the only time i've seen it lol.
I think Daniel in a navy v-neck tee would be a good change!!!
I think the black v-neck is now the traditional vault uniform, and I think it would be that much more rewarding for Daniel to "dress up" for other things if he keeps wearing his uniform for The Vault.
Let Daniel dress up, looking good and make Rex look even scruffier than he already does!

The v-neck is classic. Keep it.
Don't change. Black V neck all the way. It's your look.
How about for rare whiskey Fridays we get a rare dressed up Daniel?
Suit up Daniel!! Make Fancy Dan fight for that title!
Unleash your fashion, Daniel.
Hey Daniel, bring out the kilt!
V-neck t-shirts are really popular with hipsters so it may be difficult for Daniel to break away from his hipster look and go with a crew neck.
Daniel should suit up with the monocle and a walking cane. The cane should have a glass holder. Also braid the beard. Maybe a top hat to complete the ensemble. Or if you need a little more fancy and less formal, you could go pirate like Capt Jack Sparrow.
I would like to see an episode where Rex wears a black V neck and Daniel wears a Whiskey Tribe shirt. I think everyone would loose their minds.
Daniel, bring back the fireball foot pjs
Black t-shirts for life.

I have experience the "malt funk." I believe it was via a Cragganmore. I didn't care for it personally.
How many more episodes can you record before you run out of room to store those whiskeys? Love the show guys
I think Rex should go shopping for Daniel
Bastards Ball countdown begins...
How tall is Daniel, really ???? Thanx 🙄🤦♂️ I knew a Glen Drunky
awkward silence......... love it
8:45 guitar solo with their fingers 🤪
Jesus! Look at all those bottles.
I think Daniel should get his guitar and perform an original about how much he loves whiskey!
If Daniel is going to switch it up than as a hobbit his new clothes must be Hobbiton fashion.
I really appreciate that Daniel does a "malt funk or not" moment with all scotches now, because its my least favorite note ever and I want to know what to avoid like the plague. To me it presents as an awful peanut butter and vomit mixture.
