The intro ... well... Menno says it all :-) And for the review.... that's decent (as always). Thanks.

I would rather think as an alternative the Glendronach 12 wich is also cheaper and has less 3% ABV.

Jim Ingram: lovechild of Barry White, Serge Gainsbourg and Isaac Hayes 😂. A sexy whisky deserves a sexy intro. Really like this one, but to me, the 10 cs is the best of the core range (still need to try the GA 15 though). Glenfiddich 15 is a very decent whisky imo, but perhaps a bit rounded (as in, removed from any edges) and too watered down to really stand its ground in this comparison.cheers, I’ll let you get back to your ‘moment ‘ with this bottle.

😂😂 cheers Menno. The only other expression I've had is the Rye finish which for me, didn't really work. Would go with any Glenallachie again though as they know how to make spirit.
Yeah that Glenfiddich is decent enough but far FAR too soft for this comparison. You live and learn.

Menno, Whisky Friend Alan just did a review of the 10CS yesterday. Both reviews great. Love watching my fellow Celts do their thing. Can't get these in Ontario sadly. :(. Another one to look for next time I'm home. :)

Hello Barry Jim White ! 🤣 About the Glenallachie, I have to come back to it some day, because I have quite some reservations about it... Having tried it at WLP last year I liked it, but when back home, trying 2 times my sample of it (full 3 cl one, no air) in 2 different occasions, I found it weird, with some chemical, prickly, too estery & too oaky at the same time notes (very wood tech with those virgin oak casks) which downed a lot my rating...(low 80's or less if I remember well) I struggled a bit with other proposals from this distillery, so no investment in the new style so far, we'll see later on maybe...I'm happy with the only Glenallachie I have that I might open some day...a 35 yo sherried storepick...Another world I have to say...Cheers !
PS : Happy that your number of patreons jumps quite some lately, even if that 3rd column still needs to be filled ! 😉

Cheers Greg. As I said to Menno, the only other Glenallachie I've had is the Rye finish, which I wasn't partcularly fond of. I do like their spirit though. I like this 12 and find it very well balanced.
Thank you as always my friend.

I fully agree. Had samples of the 12 and the 15 and yes, I think it's good whisky, but for me personally, not good enough to go for a full bottle.

All their core whiskies are amazing. The 10 CS, the 12, there is a port one, the 15 and so many others. Billy Walker is good, no denying that. Another great review, cheers Jim.

Nice one Jim. For some reason, I got the impression right from the start that you really liked this, but I just couldn't put my lips on it😂 Some great descriptors in there and the comparison really rammed home the whisky journey. Cheers mate.

As usual, I started the viewing of this with a good belly laugh. Menno nailed it but there has to be a Craig Ferguson (or some comedian) in that blood line. You have a brilliant sense of humor! Oh, and you do a great whisky review, too. I picked this one up and I think your description is spot on.

I picked this one becasue it was Ralfys whisky of the year...didn't quite connect to it, it improved over time but still that wasn't it for me. As you said a bit overpriced, 84/85-100 for me.

    • @WhiskeyNovice
      @WhiskeyNovice  4 года назад +2

Cheers Kresimir. It definately is a grower. I could understand how it splits opinion because as good as I find it...it doesn't necessarily stand out from the crowd enough to make it incredible.

Is it only me? But my GlenAllachie 12 (why smelling amazing) is really spicy and hot, to the extent that I think it is hard to drink without water (one of the few whiskys I own where I really NEED to do that). I have whiskies with a bit over 50% that feels much less burny than my GlenAllachie 12. Did I get a bad batch, or is it normal with this one?

Good stuff. My first bottle of this last summer I enjoyed but didn't really connect with it that well. After watching Roy talk to Billy Walker and they talk about how this is finished in 75-80% PX I opened the second bottle and dove in with that knowledge. I feel that after doing side by sides with other malts that have some PX cask content that it has helped me calibrate my palate to pick out PX. Cheers Jim

Cheers Tim. Yeah you're not the only one to have commented on not connecting with this immediately. Considering the mixture of maturation involved, I find it very well balanced.
