Great review!! Love Redbreast, but to be honest, I like the 12 over the 15 and the 12 CS is amazing and ranks higher than standard 12 or 15. I have tried the others. The Iberian PX is amazing as well
@@whiskeyisajourney I just went out this evening and picked up a bottle of the PX at one of my local go-to stores. It was $115, but much cheaper than our Total Wine at $145. Very nice and easy sipper that hides the ABV for sure! Thank you for the recommendation!
Nice review! Redbreast was what got me started on my journey 2 plus years ago. I enjoy the 12yr, Lustau, PX, and 21yr that I have. My son gave the 21 year a while back, I think he paid 200.00 for it! Cheers!
I have had the 12 year and really enjoyed it, for the others have not tried but hopefully will purchase the cask strength and the 15 and 21 year old Cheers.
Not going to happen. When I do my giveaway in January this bottle will be finished. I only have 2 oz left. I will have to take it off my wheel unless it turns up on my sip it or skip it episode before February. I have you down for 4 in January.
I'm surprised your getting so much red fruit. In the standard range the most prominent note is a beautiful tropical fruit, especially in the 21. Cheers
Interesting quandary for the distillery. With age more funk and off-flavors, which they had to know, possibly forced to push out the older ones at higher prices to recoup all the time and effort through the years put into them.
Pete, great flight. I thought the 27 yr was crazy at 500 but nowvseeing at 1,000 = completely insane in the membrane. Just received the Lustau for Christmas.
The Lustau is a really good bottle. That was the very first Redbreast bottle I ever owned. It still holds up to this day. I hope you enjoy it. Happy New Year!
Thank you Mary! I have you down for 2 in January. Ben Moore beat you to being the first to donate in January, but I will throw in an extra entry for you anyway. Thank you for supporting the channel. Happy New Year!
@@whiskeyisajourneyaww, thank you Peter! Great flight today. I am super sensitive to sulfur or rubber notes too. High aged sherry’s and Port finishes are a try before I buy. Love Redbreast 12 CS.
Love a good RedBreast and a big fan of the Spots range as well... And totally 100% agree with you on Port finsh, I have Paul John Indian Single Malt Cask Strength finished in Tawny Port and Vintage Port it's so Over Powering like a deep rich nearly burnt fruit cake it's nice don't get wrong but it's definitely a 1 pour end of the night kinda thing... Cheers Peter Happy New Year.... Dram on 🥃🥃🥃
Thanks Matt. I guess when I do my giveaway in January I will no longer have the 27. I think I have 2 oz left in the bottle. The 18 is more tolerable than the 27 so I don't foresee that bottle being a problem getting through. Cheers!
@whiskeyisajourney my favourite out of ya line up would be the 12 Cask Strength it's affordable down here seen it around 130sh but Scotch and Irish Whisky is crazy Cheaper than Bourbon down here... And are we going to get some Down Under Whisky on the Channel this year 🤞🤞Australian, NZ bottles???
Love Redbreasts. Need the new 18 year tomorrow complete my vertical. A buddy sent me a sample of the 2024 Redbreast Dream Cask which is their oldest ever Redbreast at 38 years. Haven’t tried it yet. I am guessing the one you said you are not going to spend any more time on is one of my favorites the 15 year. Damn was wrong. It was the 27. RB27 batch 3 & 4 are my least favorite (have not had batch 5). They are very grapefruit forward. Batch 1 & 2 are the ones I would buy I prefer the RB21 over RB27 batch 3&4
Love the lineup, and love Redbreast. Out of the ones I tried I like the 12 CS and Lustau the most (I got the 12, 15, CS and Lustau). I like the 15 the least. Would love to try the PX at some point. Interesting that you say that about port (ruby). I love Bunnahabhain, but I got their 2024 feis ile 14-year ruby port finish. Found it to be too much sour grapes and didn't like it at all. Very juicy/berries though, but it really didn't work for me. Their normal 12 CS is some of the best whiskies for me though, so it's strange that it manages to ruin it that bad. I should preface by saying that I only had the neck pour of the port finished thus far, so there's that.
They also both have port in them. I have realized I am not a fan of port in whisk(e)y. Just goes to show you that just because it is expensive does not mean it has to be good. It's all dependent on the individual palate of the person tasting it. Cheers and Happy New Year!
What a timely review for me Peter, since I'm looking to add a Redbreast bottle to my collection. Ran out of the 15y late last year. Interested now on the 21y. I wonder: how would the PX edition have done in this flight? Thinking about port finished whiskys, the first one that comes to mind which I liked is the Talisker Port Ruighe. Can't say I have a problem with them, but don't have them in my collection 😂. Cheers!
Well, the Redbreast PX was my Irish whiskey of the year so I think it would have done well. Like I said in the video later in the year I will be doing the special release bottles next that will include the PX. Cheers!
Happy New Year! I’m a new subscriber and a big fan of Redbreast. To the best of my knowledge, the entire Redbreast line (except the entry level 12 y.o.) are NCF. BUT they all use e150b coloring. If you look at your lineup, all the expressions are the same color. 😢. Unfortunately, the prices have shot up recently.
Great Video. I just opened my RB21 and it is a gem. I prefer the RB21 or the Lustau. I have tried the RB27 and batch three is heavy on the grapefruit. You can still get RB27 shipped from a reputable dealer in Dublin to your house (via UPS) for low 500 range (OK - I just checked and it was sold out at 483 euros - still high).
Thanks for looking. I really do think I am done with the 27. I won't be looking to replace it. The last 2oz of what is in the bottle is going to the January winner of the giveaway. Cheers!
Nice to see your view of them :) CS + 15 are alot of whiskey for the money.. Tried a sample of the 21 and its good for sure, but felt that it wasnt worth they price if one was really honest.
@@whiskeyisajourneyaye. It seems to be general opinion about the redbreast line. 12 cask strength and 15yo is great value but i understand if someone new to whiskey would enjoy a regular 12 more.. :) Imagine a 21yo at 54%…? :D
Have always bought an Irish Whiskey in March, have had many others but always settle back with Redbreast. I haven’t had the 27, had 21 and 18, but didn’t feel they were worth the cost. Interestingly, the 15 and 12 CS are exactly the same price in my part of Canada, and I chose the 15 the last two years. I may try the CS this year, on the assumption there is some around (no guarantee).
Great line up and review, very interesting indeed. I only had the Redbreast PX, wich I bought for a xmas dram after the massive positive feedback it got from different people. And it became an insant favorite of mine in the sherry category for this holiday. And it comes at a good pricepoint here in Norway too, wich is not normal due to how expensive spirits and things in general are here up north. Next for me is the cask strength version, wich some of my friends was talking highly about. Thx for the video, and for letting me know that price and age don`t go side by side with taste and quality in the Redbreast family :)
Thanks. When I first had the Redbreast PX I felt it was a flavored whiskey because it was so fruity sweet. It really is a good bottle in their lineup. I'm looking forward to doing the next flight with all their special releases in a few months. Cheers!
Some people are sensitive to the sulfites used in wines, sherry, and port that can result in a sulfur taste and smell. Thankfully I'm not sensitive to it so I never get sulfur. Similar to cilantro, it comes off as a soap taste to some people.
That's an impressive lineup on your table. I've tried the 21 year old. It would be my choice as well. But when factoring "Value for Money" into the equation, the Redbreast 12 CS is hard to beat even at today's prices.
I love me some Redbreast another great video. I believe I may have Bourbon video fatigue. The only Channels I’m watching now is you ADHD Whiskey and Mash and Drum. Keep up the great content. Cheers.
I will do my best to keep mixing in other types of whisk(e)y. Monday is Smokeye Hill so no luck there. How knows what the wheel will select on Wednesday I have not shot it yet, but next Friday is a bottle battle that does not involve bourbon. ADHD Whiskey and Mash and Drum are great channels. Happy New Year!
I don't feel I'm 'sulphur conscious', as I can't remember smelling it but maybe a time or two, and not with any Irish that I recall. With a scotch or two, maybe. Perhaps you should pour the 27 year version out one morning and let it sit till the evening. I saw Ralphy do this and he said the changes were remarkable.
I only have 2 oz left of the 27 and that will be going to the January winner so I won't be able to pour another round for myself. However I can do that with the 18. Thanks for the suggestion. Cheers!
@@whiskeyisajourney Too rich for my blood, but I did splurge on a bottle of the 12 a year ago and would now like to try the cask strength based on your comments.
Peter, I am wondering if you've had some of these open for a long time and they have oxidized some over time? I had that happen to me with an Ardbeg. I just can't believe the 27 year old would not be to your liking at all, and the things you described in general what I found in the Uigeadahl.
Some of them have been open for a while, but I have always gotten the sulfur note from day one so I don't think that is the issue. My brother in law and I don't like the 27. Other people have had samples from this bottle and love it. I just don't like it for some reason.
I have tried them all with the exception of the 18 & 27. For me the 12YO Cask Strength is by far the best pick for flavour & the wallet.
I agree. I was thinking going in that it would win, but the abv did not hit my palate as nice this time. Typically in blinds it does well.
