    I have this one and I was a little torn at first, I like the design a lot but it was very stiff when I got it. Few months later and a little oil and it opens right up and drops shut nicely. Gerber's 7cr heat treat seems better than other 7cr I've used, holds and edge decent and gets very very sharp!

    I just got mine from Home Depot. I have the same issue with the action. The more dramatically I flick my wrist, the more inclined it is to snap open. Also mine came not centered when closed even though I haven’t tinkered with it. I’m hoping it will breaks in soon. Great review!

    I took an Arkansas stone to mine and made it into a locking straight razor. I don't have a razor strap. Could use it for portable shaves. The blade will gray a little bit. I don't think it's a pure stainless steel. The open design keeps it from being a lint catcher. Makes a good cheese slicer too. I found out how to loosen the action. The pivot screw is the only one you need to fool with. Others will make the knife sloppy. Also, take a broken clothespin and wedge it against the spring. This will take a little of the tension off. It probably won't flick as nice as a high dollar ball bearing knife, but it'll be much better than from the factory. Oil the knife lightly. Any excess with draw lint in the washers.

    You didn’t get a bum one.
    I bought one 2 months ago for $24 at Lowe’s. 10/10 times it would only open about 20% with the flipper. A very hard wrist flip would make it happen.
    I took it back for defect, the new one was just as bad.
    I do agree, it is very sharp. And I haven’t used it but twice due to the flip issues. I was going to open it up and try graphite on the hinge to see if that would help. But haven’t gotten around to it yet.
    Now the CRKT minimalist mini Bowie I bought the same day, I carry that everywhere. It is as well very sharp from the box. And the little kydex holster it came with, the bolt holes line up perfectly with my kydex pistol holster and it’s piggybacked on it. Looks pretty dope, and nice and accessible when I need it.

      There is a practical everyday purpose for knives with an actual point; but I see where you’re coming from. The knife collector community is full of people who think that they are going to defend themselves full time with a knife, so they buy these fancy “tactical” knives thinking that it somehow acts as a force multiplier.
      The biggest piece of advice I ever got for knife fighting: “Never get into a knife fight.” You WILL get cut. Multiple times. Knowing this, your mind opens to a wide variety of different blades

      I don’t recommend loosening the screws. If oil/breaking in doesn’t fix the issue, then something isn’t right. Mine came smooth opening out of the box-however the lock likes to stick making it hard to close one handed

    I've had Gerbers (flatiron and airlift) that just needed to be broken in before they became flickable. Maybe just waiting and using the knife would've made it more flippy?

  • @jimruiz7893

    When I first go the knife I had the same issue it would only flip open half way, I added some wd40 and I can flip it open every time now with a little wrist action.

  • @rustysmith540
    @rustysmith540 4 года назад

    I just returned the same knife for a reason obvious in your video but you did not point out. The split in the bamboo scale that is near the fastener.other than that I think the knife would be fine if you had not fussed with the action. A little wrist action along with the flipper at the same time opens it just fine. I have been using and collecting knives for over 40 years and realize it is a matter of personal preference but I think the flipper is smarter and easier than a thumb stud as well as allowing you to use more of the blade. I ordered one with the g10 handles and I doubt there will be a problem with the splitting as is with the bamboo. I agree with your opinion of Gerber over all though

    It isn't orange. The bamboo is a good touch. If the action is that bad they would have to pay me in order to fix it. It looks like they were going for the straight razor look without the friction part and tried to make it a flipper. I think the logo on the Bamboo is nice but the Gerber doesn't thrill me being that bold and white on black. Good review but washers not the same size. Seems like they said hey we have a bunch of parts let's see if we can make something to sell out of it.

    Is it spring loaded? I saw another review that it wouldn't flip out, with one hand. I guess that's why one should watch multiple reviews. It just shows inconsistency, in production, and why Gerber is a target/Walmart sold knife. They aren't a serious arms dealer. They don't sale serious arms.
