M1 is definitely a game changer... finally, something brave Apple. I've always had to have 16Gb of memory minimum over the last five years... running 8Gb of Ram on the M1... next level stuff and performs above 16Gb of RAM on an intel platform... still baffled after 20 years of gaming/computing experience.
Yo same lol, I was skeptical cause my PC has 32 gigs of DDR4 and I always fill it but I wasn't annoyed having 8 gigs at all on the Mac

Bought one last week and I'm pretty impressed. If you compare specs you're really missing a big part of the story. The trackpad, keyboard, weight, battery life and noise are all amazing.
When I start working on my intel school Mac, my room goes up 1 degree by the end of the day😂
I use my desktop to actually heat the room ... don't need to start the heater so it's not bad in winter.

I did too! So glad I did! Thought I would miss the larger screen. Worth the trade off for the portability (smaller and lighter). Can have a larger monitor if you need for not much $.

@@stuvius That's great! The heaviest tasks I'd use it for would be either 1080p video editing, or some gaming if I *really* get bored. Other than that it'll be for web browsing, audio editing, and photoshop work. Do you think I need 16 GB?

For anyone on the fence between 8 or 16gb RAM -- I just got a 16gb in after using the 8 for 2 weeks and I am glad I did just for the browsing experience. Both are 7 core 256. I like to have 12-15 tabs open all the time. I never close Safari or Brave. I noticed slowdown with the 8. That being said I don't do heavy lifting here and the 8 is great with a lot of other applications open I just noticed my tabs eating away hard at the RAM and causing pop-in when clicking a tab and minor hiccups switching between desktops or doing the spread view thing, but nothing major at all. You'll be happy either way this is a helluva good laptop.

I purchased a base MacBook Air to hold me over until the 14" MacBook Pro releases. That's my dream laptop.
That's what I was thinking. The new base MBA is my first MacBook so it'll be a nice introduction to the MacBook family.
When are the 14” MacBooks releasing?
@@gavinaddison4899 I don't believe there's a confirmed date yet for the 14" MacBook pro. However, the expectation is it will arrive in Q2 or Q3 of 2021 along with the new 16" version. If you can wait until then I would, but if you want to try out the new Apple silicon the base MacBook Air is a nice option.

I have bought the base model of M1 MacBook Air. I already have Nintendo switch and I don’t need turn my Mac to a gaming rig. I am pretty happy with Mac OS with this MacBook Air as my personal computer. This setup is pretty stable and crashing safe. I do everything outside of my work in my MacBook as long as there in no need to run industrial apps.

@scripteaze 1210 is the total number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic, most are returned travellers, there have been cases pop up every now and then but contact tracing keeps them under control. There are currently 11 active cases, all returned travellers in quarantine. They can tell there are no active cases in the community by doing constant sewage testing across the sewage system that tests for virus fragments.

He’s not wrong. I’ve been running a M1 Air with 8GB RAM for the last year, I’m a postgrad student, so I needed above all else long battery life, balanced with light weight. This ticked the boxes. I have a Mac Studio at home for gaming and video editing encoding or any other heavy tasks, so the base model for being out at uni all day, suits me fine.
I’ve not had any issues with slowdowns, stutters or other performance issues. The battery is holding up well, at 401 cycles with 90% battery capacity remaining. It’s light, fast, comfortable to type on and easy to live with, so it works fine for me.
My wife just brought herself a M2 Air, and I can’t take to it. The flat body is uncomfortable to type on compared to the wedge of the M1, the midnight body is already showing little scuffs/marks and write performance of the SSD is inferior, to the point that you can feel it even in normal use.

Love my Air with the M1. Performance is very good. Runs Final Cut Pro / iMovie like it’s nothing. Battery life is amazing. I also like the size. Got mine when they had $100 off too so it was a good deal in my opinion. I am actually thinking of getting rid of my iMac which is a 27 inch with 32GB of RAM. The Air outperforms it.
I am planning to buy Macbook Air 8gb version. I am a casual video editor.. I will working mostly with 2 to 3 layer time line of 4k 30fbs footage for color correction and speed ramp etc. Can I do all these smoothly with this machine?

@Tony Montana ikr It’s a beauty to look at, sure. But when you’re using it you will only look at the screen, not the back.
@@davidpritrezski5014 Actually doesn't waste battery. It glows from the LCD's light. If you put a cutout there now, you will see it glow the same way. It was a design choice to make it look more modern and less like a toy i guess. Also unifies all their apple logo to look the same in color across all products. Probably cuts cost somewhere too not having to laser cut every panel and add a transparent material that is not needed anywhere else on the laptop.

You saved so much money and you can still upgrade the storage by getting an SSD!
Good job, love mine too. Power Tip... Use a larger watt charger (and the larger watt C-cable... yes, I just found out that they are different and if you use a low watt cable with a high watt charger, it will charge slower!), the 61W, - 87W, or a 3rd party and it will charge much faster than the 30 W brick/cable included.
I really want one, but my Early 2011 13" MacBook Pro simply will not die, and for what I use it for I can't justify buying new. Nice review by the way.
Bought an M1 Air with 16GB RAM and 256GB. So happy. Performance is flawless. In everyday tasks it seems as fast as my Ryzen 3600 Desktop ( probably it isnt, but it feels so fast )

I ordered the 16GB with 512GB MacBook Pro. I got the 8GB with 256GBB and return it because wanted to future proof it. Sadly couldn’t pay for more memory but I can get SSD so hope is fine.

I suggest you do a comparison between an Intel MacBook with 8GB of RAM versus the M1 with 8GB of RAM, no one has done that yet as far as I know and it would be a great comparison! So we could see how both of these chips perform in real word usage with the cheapest RAM configuration.
Just recently got the M1 Mac mini and it's outstanding, can't wait to see your video on it.
I’ve almost bought one of these TWICE. But I think I would upgrade to the 16GB RAM version. You can upgrade the RAM from 8 to 16GB for $250 CAD (which is like $200 USD). As far as storage goes, the official Apple website offers external hard drives. These hard drives cost less than the equivalent onboard SSD upgrades. Yes, it’s external, but it’s still a good way to cut costs. You don’t really need 2TB of storage on a laptop at the ready every day you’re working on it. So I don’t think using an external option is a bad idea to store your files. Throw all your big file videos and whatnot on there.

I'm sitting here on my Lenovo Thinkpad i5, which is alright, but the battery life is terrible in my opinion. While it isn't obsolete exactly, I feel like this MacBook Air M1 is exactly what I would LIKE to have, especially considering it's down to $799 for black friday. I'm just about to pull the trigger and see how much I can sell my Thinkpad for. Thanks for the excellent review!

Hey man, you should do a comparison between the base model Macbook Air M1 and the base model Macbook Pro 13’ i5. That’s what most people on a budget are in between right now
It would be great to talk about the size of the M1 internal circuits (5nm) and how they are more efficient compared to Intel's (14nm). I bought an Acer Swift with the AMD Ryzen 7 4700U processor (7nm) and it's the fastest windows laptop I've own.
Not a single overhyped statement in this video - judging from my last 2 weeks with the M1 MBA this is the laptop to get!

Yeah it’s always in stock in the base model, only if you want upgrades in storage or ram plus final cut pro or Logic Pro it’s shipped but I ordered one Thursday with 16gb ram and Final Cut Pro and it will be here March 16-23

Been doing a lot of research for new laptops, cause my sister is in the market for a new. She was initially looking at the Surface Laptop 3, but then I persuaded her to go with the MacBook Air due how it absolutely destroys every other laptop out there on the market.

I was waiting for the M2, which was rumoured to be introduced either this fall or perhaps spring 2022 at the latest. Now its more likely that it will be released in October/November 2022, so I just got myself the M1 Air in January of 2022 and I don't regret it! Such an upgrade coming from a 2015 baseline 13' Pro.

I do not do any type of editing. Sold my 15” MBP and got the 13” M1 air and hated the small screen. Stole a 16” MBP on ebay for $1,400 and love it. I also upgraded my 27” 2011 iMac to the M1 Mini and got a 32” Benq/$450 for my office, loving the $699/$450 set up over the old iMac.
I bought the cheapest one. Its just amazing and one of the most satisfying tech products i haver owned.

i do 10-20sec edits on After Effects on my base model M1 mac and still stays cool while not lagging! i love it.

Lmfao agreed. Although I will admit I was scared and waited until now to get an M1... But I am pissed that I waited so long I could have replaced my mid 2014 MBP 15'' and been freed from the 6 foot chain connecting me to an outlet for months now
I have an aging 2013 15" MBP and i'm trying to get it to hold out till the Apple Silicon 16" MBPs are out. But the quality of life improvements in performance, thermals, lack of fan noise, and battery life are REALLY making me consider just buying an M1 Macbook Air now to hold me over.
Im very on the edge of either getting the base model or spending the extra $150 to upgrade to 512gb and 8 core GPU. The GPU I wasn't too worried about as I don't necessarily will do things that'll test it. The main thing is that I want to get the 512gb as I plan on having this laptop for years and I think the extra $150 is a great deal for long term use.

Buy the base M1 now - in 2y, when the cheaper MBA is released, turn in this one for that one (if CPU improvements are significantly better). Also, this applies only if you haven't bought an INTC Mac in the last 3y.
awesome! I had an air years ago and it was basically a word processor/1 tab on the internet machine, but this seems awesome! I've watched a few other vids and I think I'm sold on it.
