One would think I would stop watching these M1 MacBook related videos after having purchased one. But here I am, watching a video about a computer I have already bought, on said computer. I think I'm obsessed.
That’s me right now 🤷🏽♀️
Which model did you get?
@@AB-ff1cq I got the base model Air... 8GB, 256GB SSD.
@@deaflat1119 how is it?
@@BongGorres I absolutely love it. I'm still obsessed. I bought the base model Air because I have a feeling I'm going to end up on an upgrade train the first couple releases as Apple iterates on these Apple Silicon Macs rapidly. But even if that doesn't happen, I'm more pleased with this computer than any other I have bought or built in the last 40 years, and I have owned a lot of computers that I really liked.

Have been a MacBook Pro user for 14 years. Now bought the Air just minutes after it was announced and am loving it. 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, 8-Core GPU. The size, the weight, the battery life and the fan-less design make it simply amazing.
I bought a used M1 Air same specs as yours! It’s being delivered tomorrow, I can’t wait!
@@DJAJ101 is it good ?
@@jamesrimes2870 very! Base m1 mba - it’s my first Mac. Literally my favourite computer I’ve ever owned. Unless you only value gaming, it’s great! You’ll need to think differently with the OS though… it’s not like windows but I’m ngl after I learnt how to use it well my productivity went up like 5x
I subscribed to your channel when you started your iPad reviews. That was what enabled me to make the switch over to the iPad Pro 2020 from the windows world. I was just reviewing your channel history and boy have you come a long way over the past 3 years! Great to see how well your channel has developed and I really enjoy your videos and channel. HONESTY is the BEST policy and you deliver! Keep up the great work! Wishing a Safe and Happy Holiday Season!
thanks so much for this Gary! I just ordered a 16 gb MBA over the pro for many of the reasons you listed, thanks for the vote of confidence!
The gap between Air and Pro has never been this small while the price difference pretty much stayed the same. The only way for me (poor student) to justify extra $300 would be a redesign of the Pro which is likely happening next year. But since that didnt happen this year, I just ordered M1 Air :)
5 months later I'm looking to get the M1 Air today. Just base model to do some basic mac and iOS development on. Out of the 3 things mentioned as the main differences only the 100 extra Nits brightness on the Pro is actually an advantage as I don't really rate the touch bar (having had a Mac with one previously.) and I prefer passive cooling on devices ever since I first got the 2017 Surface Pro i5
These devices are not made for poor people
@@jaikumarbohara7964 Don't really understand the comment. Why watch the video then or why comment?
How has it been for you??

Nearly changed my mind but I think I will stick with the Pro. I sometimes work in some hot climates in which that fan would come in handy I reckon. Cheers mate. Good video. Alwyas like your style.
I always thought you had almost a million subs considering the amazing content and quality of videos you come up with. I was shocked when you said 250k subs...haha..Love your videos.
A few months ago he only had 100k it’s insane
How? You can literally see how many subs he has next to the channel name
Congrats on 250k! Your content is some of the best on RUclips. Keep up the great work!
Love the video! Currently waiting for my16 GB/512 GB M1 MacBook Air to ship! I ordered it Saturday, and I’m “patiently” waiting! Keep up the awesome work! Congratulations on the milestone!
Great video as always, Gary! With my workload, I could probably totally get by with the Air. But, the microphones are a bit better on the Pro. With as many Zoom calls and other things as I'm doing, it's tempting to go with the higher quality. Not sure it really matters, though, since both webcams still are... well... less than stellar... Very hard decision!
He says, "This is a --FAN--tastic computer" ...ironic, considering the Air has no fan :D
wow you are unfunny
This joke is gold
Thought the same thing 😅
I placed an order for a base model Air earlier this week but went back and reordered a 16gb/8core/1tb earlier today too. Figured if I can expand it later might as well max it out (as much as budget alliws) now - before I regret it. Glad to hear you say the same.
I mean, makes sense that the Air improved so much. It went from like a 2 core to 8 core cpu.
Just like a mid-range Android phone to a flagship iPhone

Hi Gary, throughout the video you mentioned how similar the two choices were. At the end of the video you told us that your favourite pick would be the Air but, in your last sentence you say, "...but the Pro is probably more practical". Somehow I didn't get that vibe from the video; all I could take aways was, "They're similar, one is cheaper". What am I missing? Many thanks, as usual, great video.
You gave me the answer when you say “I do kind of wish that I bought 8 core GPU, bigger hard drive and 16Gb of RAM”. Thank you, great videos.
I love that Gary is a ziperfile (ziperofile?) and a keyboard-file, but doesn’t really care about audio. Great video Gary!
Keyboardphile who thinks the magic keyboard is the best keyboard on earth? Lol
Another important factor you forgot to mention is that the M1 air comes with a 30W charger, while the M1 pro comes with a 61W charger 😉
Legit point, but keep in mind that it does not translate to 2 times faster charging. In fact it takes almost the same time to charge both Air and Pro. Of course Pro's battery is 16% bigger.
I think that 30W charger is awesome because it weights less and takes less space. I hate it that many manufacturers of compact/portable devices forget to mention how big and heavy their chargers are. Just look at Intel NUCs. 60w charger is bigger than the NUC itself 😭
@@JohnDoe-zc3fg the charger is another benefit of the Air to me it makes about 15 mins difference to charge time but you don't have to charge these too often
But then you can buy a 65 or 100 W third party charger and you still achieve the same charging rate
@@DanielHarrisCodes yeah 15 min is very small
Think it's finally time i finally get myself a macbook. I'll go for the air as I don't do any strenuous work on a laptop
Very comprehensive & informative…. Great vid, Thks.
Good video. I ordered a custom Air. 8-core GPU with 1TB. I did not upgrade the Ram though. For my workflow and based on testing in other channels it didn’t seem like it would affect the laptop that much. Yes my export times from FCP may be a little longer but once I’m done editing I don’t really care about that. I’d rather put the $200 saved into the storage. Also I save around a $100 through a work purchase plan so can’t complain. 😁
The NITs difference is the only thing that I might regret but I don’t like typing on the Pro because of that sharp edge and the Touch Bar doesn’t do it for me. The only issue with the custom build is the now 6-week lead time for the Air.
I've recently picked up a used 2020 m1 pro and air, with the air being the maxed-out model. You've done an excellent job listing out the differences and explaining which one of those differences is actually a pro vs. con when comparing the MacBook pro to the air. For my use case, the pros of the Macbook pro were more "nice to have" features rather than actual need features, and since the MacBook air I came with was the optional upgraded 8-core version, I went with the air. BUT if the Pro had the ports or more ports like you've mentioned, as my dusty 2014 MacBook pro, I might've just stuck with the lower specced MacBook pro. I hate dongles. Also I didn't like that accidental touches to the touch bar on the pro either so that actually was a con for me. GREAT JOB on this video again!
I've been running my late 2010 Macbook Pro for about 5 years now. About 2 years ago I upgraded it to 16GB of RAM and a 256SSD and it greatly improved the performance, but with school going entirely online for now it is completely bogged down by everything I need to have running. I can't wait to upgrade to the M1 MBA. A decade of improved hardware should blow my mind when it comes to getting everything done.
Thanks for saving me $200! Gonna spec out the MBA and make that my daily driver! I LOVE the wedge shape design. That's the killer for me. Also... cheaper obvs...
This was really helpful, going with the air, but the 16gb of unified ram model for long term security.
Hey! Did same - receiving it next week 🤩🤩
Yeah, i think is the more sensible choice!
Same here....
Pls share your Expirence
Doin the same thing but I think ima slam a 1 TB in it
great vid, love the simplicity 👍🏼
I love your content because I feel like I’m watching a real person.
Fun fact: hes a real person
I am going with M1 MBA for my machine now. WIth the goal of getting a second one when 13” or 14” has 4 ports and dual external monitor support natively. M1 MBA will hold me fine from what the reviews I have seen. Thanks EveryDay Dad!
My AIR is coming next week...excited! My first Mac was the 2015 12 inch MacBook ...it’s still the smallest they’ve made...decided to keep it.
I would like to know what the external monitor you use in your videos. I just bought one myself and would like to know if I made the right choice.
I bought the 27f HP external monitor from Best Buy with 2 HDMI ports and 1 VGA port.
I decided to go for the Pro model because I live in a tropical country and the fan might be handy
Hey there! If I already have a pretty powerful windows laptop (2080 max-q) for occasional video editing and stuff, should I buy an air for my casual work or should I buy a pro for everything except for gaming/win only softwares? Great contents btw!
Gary, this review helped ALOT to help decide which laptop to get. Subscribed. On a side note, how did you like the Snyder Cut of Justice League????
Hi Gary. We saw you playing Wow during this video but yet, you didn't mentioned anything about playing games with both Macbook Pro & Air. Since it's the topic I'm interested in, allow me to ask: Did you try playing Wow on both computers and if so, what's your position on this in regards of which one performs better (or equal). Thanks.
Thank you. This is so helpful. I am a longtime PC user craving the durability and long battery life of a Mac. I think I am going to get the Air and bump up the RAM and SSD. I would use this for MS Office and Zoom.
An upscaled M1 Air is the best light computer and best value per dollar on the market.
I’m so torn; I literally want one of each
I don’t know how to use them in a way to truly justify it but I love the touch bar and love the idea of a computer without a fan/any moving parts
I love the touch bar. Especially some of the rad mods! Did you know you can customize your touch bar and even give it hepatic feedback? I was kinda disappointed with the internal
speakers on the pro. Maybe the sound is better once you use an equalizer?
I just went for the MacBook Pro but it was a tough choice, I was going through the check out on the air and just suddenly decided on the MacBook Pro at the last minute just because it will be my video editing machine.. It’s a tough call. I played it safe with the pro but I could have easily used the Air
I’m coming from a 2012 fatbook pro and I’m pretty sure my lady got me the M1 MBP so either way I’m sure I’m going to be blown away with the upgrade. Great video.
Such a great review!
Ay congrats on 250k man!!
Great review thanks ❤️ also what were you doing in Aroms stand 😂
I personally chose the macbook pro 13 "16gb ram.
For a basic use the air is fine and the differences with the pro are zero.
Internet, writing, small photo editing and video editing are absolutely identical.
The difference is seen when using the macbook outside the home (20% greater brightness, greater autonomy), when you do not use the internal speakers (the audio of the pro is more full-bodied and less crackling), when you use programs that require the use of the trackpad (much larger in the pro), when doing fairly heavy photo and video editing where the more powerful gpu helps, where the fan keeps the rendering performance identical for many hours (while on the air they drop a lot) and where the higher ram helps to avoid writing to ssd with consequent premature wear of the disk (swap memory). the question then is: what should we do with the macbook? basic use or medium-high level amateur / professional use?
I’m guessing that in a couple years, the distinction between Air and Pro would have greater distinction again because of a bigger M chip line.
Congrats on 250k!!
Thanks so much!
👀 I appreciate your video. I like your thoughts and perspective. Blessings on your day.
thank you for the video. Because of YOU I just ordered a MacBook Pro M1 and put my old MacMini i7 on ebay 💥
I ordered an Air 16GB 512 with the same chip as the MBP -- because I loathe the touch bar. I do a little bit of coding, light photo editing and plan to get a little more into video and final cut. Do you think I'll miss the fan enough to cancel my order and put up with the touch bar? But I REALLY hate the touch bar. I couldn't care less about the brightness.
Dang dude...1/4 million🤯 Congrats!
Great Macbook video too.
I have an old MacBook Pro 15”, and my concern is the edges when you have hours using the keyboard, it is not comfortable. I will give it a try to the MacBook Air w/ 16GB ram and more capacity, using for a typewriter and sometimes Lightroom
Waiting for My new MacBook Air and can’t wait to start using it to replace my old, but still very good, MacBook Pro 13” from 2014

Another great video Gary. Air. Perfect Christmas 🎄 🎁 for Mrs.
Three weeks ago, I was in the market for a new 13 inch laptop. I decided to purchase the Microsoft Laptop Surface Go but it was to slow and just did not feel right. Then, I spent a lot more money and purchased the Dell Inspiron 13 2 in 1 4k. I had to restore the computer 3 times because it kept going into sleep mode. After watching some of your and other videos as well as speaking with the Best Buy rep, I got the 13 inch MacBook Pro for $1,099. Since I got it I have not used my other laptop the Dell G7 7500 with a 10750 and 64 GB of RAM, with a RTX 2070 MaxQ with an OLed 4k screen . I just keep going back to the M1 MacBook Pro.
Would you consider a tutorial for MacBook Pro for beginners ? I also need help with retrieving data from a device to an SSD, external. And then, how to view what is inside one. Thank you! I really enjoy your videos.
What made me smile most is that the Air you said you wish you’d got is the exact one I have on order (should be here before Christmas). 8 core CPU, 8 core GPU, 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD. It’s be great if you (or any other tech channel) would compare the higher spec’d models. Keep up the great vids Gary.
Screen brightness and bigger batter won me over... I grabbed a 16GB with 1TB Pro in silver yesterday, it should be with me by the 7th of July.
The brighter screen and touchbar is enough reason for me to chose the Pro.
@Glorious Wolf I really like the Touch Bar. I also forgot to mention the battery is much better.
@Glorious Wolf I use my current MacBook Pro usually on full brightness so a less bright screen would not be good for me.
@@Michael-zn2jc "much" like 1-2 Hours more at best ... air already has a good enough battery ...
@@ursroeder7781 1-2 hours is a lot
The speakers are significantly better in the Pro.
Both really amazing, having owned both however I do prefer the pro.
Personally I love the touchbar after installing various apps to make it more useful. I also love the design, the larger battery, the brighter screen will be helpful outside, the larger trackpad is nice, and I like that even though both of these macbooks have no issues with thermals, the MBP runs so much noticeably cooler to the touch which is amazing when using on a lap. All of these additions IMO make the MBP worthy of its price over the air, but the air is definitely an amazing laptop.
Apple really smashed it with these first gen M1's. Happy to be a part of the evolution (:
Question, the m1 air is in my budget range not the pro , but what really bothers me is the fanless system , how can u make a laptop without a fan ??? That is very important !!!!
@@Electromagic27 it’s efficiency is the reason, most people use it for light use and there is not much need for one, but if you plan to keep it long term, it’s better to get it with the fan as these chips may start to ware or get outdated over long periods of time causing the system to do more work.
great man!!! i like your review so much! other reviewers like " oh get the pro oh get the air. oh get both???? blar blar " but you made conclusion! air is the best for me! : ) thanks for your honest suggestion!
Hi there! I bought the 2020 MacBook Pro base model (intel chip) cause I heard that the air gets hot. But when my MacBook Pro came, it got hot too. Ok, looking for some help in making a decision between the 2. All this in addition to surfing the web & watching movies. So I’m ready for your suggestions, let’s have it & thanks for your time!
If you plan on multitasking and having a bunch of tabs open at once then you’ll need the pro. My thing is the air is only good for if you’re in college and don’t do a bunch of editing or anything of the sorts. Just my opinion.
