I just got an M1 air (the 512gb version you can walk into any apple store and buy) to replace my fully loaded mid-2014 15" Pro and I absolutely love it. It is my favorite computer I've ever owned.
My laptop kinda gave up on me so i finally ordered a MacBooc two days ago, not knowing anything about M1 and stuff. Now i binged basically every video on it on YT and yours are my faves! They give me the infos i want in a way i understand. Now i only have to wait until (at least) December 8th.
I’ve been using a 2012 air, and it’s really been showing its age. So glad I held out on upgrading last year, now that the M1 laptops have launched. Just ordered an M1 air w/ 8 cores, 512GB storage, 16GB of RAM. Cant wait! Should receive it by the third week of December.
I disagree on the MacBook Air shell, to me, it's almost like a Porsche 911, it's sort of a timeless design. They did refresh it, what, a year or 18 months ago or so? But Apple should keep that same basic wedge design and just continue to improve it. The only thing are the colors - I love gold, but why do they have to make it a rose gold? I don't want boring silver or slightly darker silver - yet when I buy the gold one I look like a fruit because of the pink shade to it. Fix that Apple, make a gold to match the new iPhone 12 Pro Max gold - I want bling, not boring.
Thanks for making this! Ordered mine and it'd take a week more to arrive! Binge watching your videos, you're taking my excitement level blow up! Can't wait for mine :)
I just received it today and OH MY GOD it is just AMAZINGG! I wasn't a big fan of MacBooks until the M1 chip was released. I used to think that buying a MacBook Air isn't worth it and the Pro is just too expensive. But this one solves that problem and wow, just wow!
So the other major concern that many people have expressed about the M1 Macbooks is that they still have the same sub-par 720p front facing camera. Not an issue for me since I don't ever use it, my biggest issue is with bluetooth. My AirPods (Pro and V2) cut out/stutter ever 5-10 minutes. Not an issue with my early 2020 MBA. Many users on Macrumors are complaining about bluetooth issues...disconnects, cutouts, etc. I'm hoping Apple releases a patch for this soon since my return window is shrinking.
Everything is ok but I'm more worried about your upcoming macbook pro video because you literally don't have any words left to praise that thing now. 😂👏
I've been using my MacBook Air M1 to play WoW, audio editing, recording, video editing, and everything else... during WoW gaming on very high settings (4K and "7" on the graphical settings) I'm getting 45-60FPS and the Air definitely gets warm, but not nearly Intel levels of heat.

@@soda-cr1pn Been using the Mac mini 8gb with pretty much exactly what you described and it handles it perfectly! Compared the 13" MacBook Air vs. Pro at Costco this week. The Air was the early 2020 model, but the keyboard, I believe is the same for the M1 Air. While the key travel may be the same, the keys on the Air seem almost recessed into the body, where the Pro keys were obviously raised above the body. The typing on the Pro was a much much nicer experience. Any other comments about the the Air and Pro keyboard?
I just bought this MacBook Air, it actually is due to arrive in two days. Because I was watching a lot of videos about the different Macs available now, this popped up today. Have only had an iPad since my Dell laptop died, (never will I stray from Macs again,) so I had to really get updated on the state of Mac computers. I’m very excited for my new MacBook to get here. Your vids were a help to this & if RUclips had suggested this 2 days ago, I’d have spent less time going back & forth on what to buy. Glad to know I prob made the right choice & will be very happy with my purchase. And that brings me to a point I want to make if anyone else is looking now to buy a new Mac & finds this video & chooses the MacBook Air. Amazon has it for $50 less & they do sell AppleCare if you buy that, AppleCare is the same price as at Apple’s website, but the computer is $50 cheaper. For the basic model described in this video. Used that savings to get the Magic Mouse 2 which I really need because I’m all thumbs & so I always disable the trackpads. Was going to just put up with my silly trackpad problem b/c budget is tight, but yay, I didn’t have to.
Same here, wondering as well .. but I feel like the opposite, that the 512gb ssd is a better upgrade for the money, the 8gb should be more than plenty.

I have never EVER bought an Apple product in my life and never thought I would, but Apple absolutely killed it with the new M1 laptops! I ordered the Air M1 base model, and seriously couldn't be more excited!
I choose the space gray already, because is a more elegant or serious color for me. But I was thinking to buy the silver one because if it’s scratched you can see the real color below and is going to be silver. I suppose I’ll have to be careful. 😁
Space grey is out of this world. Silver has a little edge at looks when the laptop's closed but space grey nails it when you open the laptop and look at the keyboard and the trackpad area. Space grey is also good when the laptop's closed but legendary when its open. I suggest you go for space grey, as it looks a lot elegant.
@@audreys766 I doubt it, I think apple would want to diversify their lineup more by increasing the distinction between the “pro” and “air” models at a glance. By adding a 14” screen, anyone seeing a 14” MacBook would now know it’s the pro, and that lineup different alone would justify the larger price difference from the air. People that don’t need or care about the larger screen size, would then just go for the air.
Well said! The M1's limit of 8GB or 16GB RAM (unified memory), two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports and a maximum of 2TB SSD storage feel a bit restrictive on the MacBook Pro or the Mac mini, but these are exactly the kind of specs we've come to expect on the MacBook Air. The MacBook Air has finally really come into its own. Three times faster, twice the battery and NO FAN?! I think I'm in love! And this M1 is the bottom-end unit. Can you even imagine what the next machines will be like?
For those curious, the 7-core integrated GPU in the M1 chip matches the GTX 1050ti. And the higher variant having the 8-core integrated GPU, it almost equals the GTX 1650. So don't fall for those notebooks with discrete graphics such as "MX350".
Can you make or recommend a video on switching from Windows to Mac? I've been interested in these laptops for a while, and these ones just might drive me to buy! Great vid as always, keep it up!

The Air M1 I will get will have 16GB unified memory, but I am still tore about internal SSD space! I have external hard drives at my disposal or cloud storage for backup/archive purposes! Mind you; I am in front of a Late 2013 21.5" iMac running Big Sur... Where I am seriously thinking of trading in for credit to spec out the M1...

the 8 core one? With 8 gigs of ram?
You've convinced me to go for a MBA instead of a pro.... I'm gonna buy it in January
Me watching reviews even after buying the air
I’ve been using a 2012 air, and it’s really been showing its age. So glad I held out on upgrading last year, now that the M1 laptops have launched. Just ordered an M1 air w/ 8 cores, 512GB storage, 16GB of RAM. Cant wait! Should receive it by the third week of December.
Smartphone level battery life, this is just perfect.
This is from a Windows-PC user.
My laptop is struggling to have a 4hr battery life.
gaming laptop here. when im quick i have enough time to run from wall plug to wall plug
workstation laptop here. I can walk, but I better be quick when switching to another outlet.
My laptop is struggling for 1 hour
I disagree on the MacBook Air shell, to me, it's almost like a Porsche 911, it's sort of a timeless design. They did refresh it, what, a year or 18 months ago or so? But Apple should keep that same basic wedge design and just continue to improve it. The only thing are the colors - I love gold, but why do they have to make it a rose gold? I don't want boring silver or slightly darker silver - yet when I buy the gold one I look like a fruit because of the pink shade to it. Fix that Apple, make a gold to match the new iPhone 12 Pro Max gold - I want bling, not boring.
Looks like this is going to be my first Macbook!! 🤩 I'll probably get it w 16gb unified memory & 512gb!
Nice! Hope you enjoy it!
I ordered that config, but delivery time is loooong (I ordered last week, expected delivery is December 18th)
Same config as mine, but shipping mid December 🤯
@@jannikmeissner So lucky you could already order!! It's not even available yet in the PH :(
@@DanRichardsonTV Wahh lucky!! I'm excited for you guys
My only concern is the screen brightness is it as bright as previous MacBook Pros
Thanks for making this! Ordered mine and it'd take a week more to arrive! Binge watching your videos, you're taking my excitement level blow up! Can't wait for mine :)
Thanks for the comment!
I ordered on 22 n it’s said to arrive dec 4th - 11, you too?
@@iLastStar I ordered yesterday it says the same for me
I just received it today and OH MY GOD it is just AMAZINGG! I wasn't a big fan of MacBooks until the M1 chip was released. I used to think that buying a MacBook Air isn't worth it and the Pro is just too expensive. But this one solves that problem and wow, just wow!
Watching this on my M1 Macbook Air. Yes, it's that good!
factz
I've been using my MacBook Air M1 to play WoW, audio editing, recording, video editing, and everything else... during WoW gaming on very high settings (4K and "7" on the graphical settings) I'm getting 45-60FPS and the Air definitely gets warm, but not nearly Intel levels of heat.
I ordered one today. Can’t wait to get my hands on it
Mine is in Shanghai right now. I’m playing mental games with myself to try and not check the tracking every 20 minutes. I’m so excited.
Yo, I need an air for school work and stuff like MS office, zoom, ms teams, spotify, chrome safari, a bit of minor gaming, discord etc. do u think that 8GB will be enough or do u think im gonna need to get the 16gb, since im thinking of upgrading from my 4gb 128gb dual core 2014 mac air, which slows down too often. do u think im gonna need 16 gigs or will 8 be enough?
@@soda-cr1pn Been using the Mac mini 8gb with pretty much exactly what you described and it handles it perfectly! I opened all my programs, and had like 20+ safari tabs open (lots with RUclips videos playing) and it didn't skip a beat. I had the 16gb I7 mini before this (for 2 weeks before this came out) and I'd say they're pretty close in terms of how much memory pressure they use.
In which scenario would you recommend someone to upgrade from the 7 core GPU to the 8 core GPU?
When rendering vid
I have a MacBook Pro 2017 now, it's getting rather old and has the sleep/wake issue. Im getting the air on Monday and I'm soooooooooo excited!
Finally! A laptot from Apple I am willing to buy! The first one in 5 years! Almost got me with the 16 inch one, though!
Which macbook air;
8gb ram with 512gb ssd or
16gb ram with 256gb ssd?
(I'm an accounting and finance student and need something to last for 4 years)
16 gb ram
Same here, wondering as well .. but I feel like the opposite, that the 512gb ssd is a better upgrade for the money, the 8gb should be more than plenty.
Would you say the 3 year apple care is worth getting?
@@bigw208 I do not know how much that costs, I am not from the US. Also, have you decided on which version of MBA you gonna get?
@@benjaminbergel6353 macbook air with 16gb ram and 256 gb ssd. This is because with 16gb ram it will 'future proof it' (wouldn't be slow in the future). With the storage you can get a 1tb hard drive cheaper than upgrading it to 512gb ssd on the apple website.
I have never EVER bought an Apple product in my life and never thought I would, but Apple absolutely killed it with the new M1 laptops! I ordered the Air M1 base model, and seriously couldn't be more excited!
I am very indecisive. Which color should I choose? Silver or space gray? 🤯
I suggest you go for space grey, as it looks a lot elegant.
your hat reminds me so much of a dad who spends most of his time on the garage doing some car or construction stuff.
This air is amazing, the fanless design makes it better than pro imo and apple is going to re design it and give it more power with future m2 and m3
I was wondering if I should buy the M1 Air now or wait for the potential 14-inch to come in 2021...
I just want the 14 inch to be released already! Lol
I would love a 14 inch MacBook Air with a 16 inch style screen and 4 thunderbolt ports.
@@TheEverydayDad don't just blurt out everybody's dream like that Gary!
Do you think the 14” will come to the air as well?
@@audreys766 I doubt it, I think apple would want to diversify their lineup more by increasing the distinction between the “pro” and “air” models at a glance. By adding a 14” screen, anyone seeing a 14” MacBook would now know it’s the pro, and that lineup different alone would justify the larger price difference from the air. People that don’t need or care about the larger screen size, would then just go for the air.
When will it come out?
PC user switching to my first Mac, 16G 1T M1, cant wait to get my hands on it!!!
Typing this comment on my mid 2015 MacBook Air, which had its fair share of drops, dents and overall abuse but never has it ever crashed, is heartbreaking because I might even consider upgrading the little beast.
I wish apple had Amazon class shipping
Buy them on Amazon, problem solved! 🤷♂️

Just listening to many hours of videos about the MacBook Air M1, I am returning the base model MacBook Pro M1.

I first ordered a MacBook Pro but cancelled it and got the air (which will come a week later now) because after all the reviews and some thinking about it, I realised that I would be wasting my money by buying the Pro. My last MacBook was a Pro and I loved it but the Air just makes more sense this time.
