I just got one and it blows away my surface laptop 3 and competes well with my desktop. I did a test of exporting 100 raw photos in Lightroom and my Air with 16gb took 1-2 seconds longer than my desktop with a 2700X cpu and 64gb of ram on all 3 repeated tests The only thing that the desktop is able to win by a big margin is pano stitching. On a 30 shot pano stitch the M1 crated the preview 10% faster, but the Desktop completed the stitch 20% faster.
I’ve watched every review on RUclips and they’ve said it’s perfect for photo editing, especially light editing, and you won’t have a single problem. I think you’re gonna love it!
I traded in my 2018 Macbook Pro 15" with 6 core i7, the M1 air smacks it around for editing. It also doesn't set my legs on fire if when I'm using it. The Intel macbooks get so damn hot, even web browsing.
I am now using a M1 MacBook Pro, and for today I started to use it with 100% battery life and then unplugged, after more then 9 hours of intermittently using for safari, RUclips, MS Word, and a lot of other small apps, my M1 MacBook still have 71% of battery life! No only amazing, this is unbelievable !!!!
I've got the Air M1. Completely agree with this video. BEST computer I've ever bought. My first was a Compaq in the early 90s that cost over $2k. It hurts to say that.
Love this little fellah, amazingly fast - it's so zippy and stays perfectly cool in clamshell, I'm considering phasing out my current mac mini desktop 🥳
IT'S ALL TRUE - i agree. my battery lasts 14+h on screen time easily, i charge it every 2 days. it's always cold, my arms are warmer than laptop. it's so smooth and fast, so easy to use and lovable, it is versatile and does everything i need. it can game. i am first time apple user, i dont regret it. every time i talk with friends about my laptop, they always like it so much they want to buy it too, because of how insane it is, truly.
Not even one month later for me, and I've already dropped and dented the metal, poor thing 😥 finally decided to order a case for it cause apparently I'm not responsible enough lol. This is my first MacBook and I seriously love it
I finally got the maxed out MBP less than 2 weeks ago. At first I was nervous. It got really hot like the intel model but after the initial startup/setup, it hasn't gotten hot at all. Battery and speed of it is amazing. I just love it and this will most likely last me a while. Maybe even into retirement.
I’ve never been able to afford a MacBook until now. And this seems like THE ONE. I’m just nervous. Should I wait a longer until a sort of... version 2 comes out? Since this M1 chip is so new? Opinions please, I don’t know a single thing about tech or about Apple as a company. I don’t want to buy this to have them announce an even better version. And if I did wait, how long do you think I’d be waiting?
try out getting this macbook because you can always get trade in value for the next year (around 6 months) version. but you don’t even need to upgrade with how great this macbook is with everything! good battery, great speed! i love mine i have the macbook air
if you need it now, buy it now. if not, you can wait some more. newer and better tech will always come out every year and you’ll just be stuck waiting if you keep on waiting for new releases.
I was going to purchase an iPad Air and that got delayed and eventually the MacBook Air M1 was released and when I compared the two I opted for a MacBook rather knowing full well that I never used Mac OS ever and I'm a long time windows user and that might be a challenge, I finally got the M1Air and I really like this device and the battery life is legit and its snappy and compact I use it for photo editing and writing and its good. Thanks for the videos and advice Gary its always a pleasure watching your videos.
My 2014 MBP has been a beast and I recently upgraded they SSD drive on it. The screen has all these little blotches on it but you only see them when light hits it and it’s off. I see no reason to upgrade because I don’t use it that much anymore. It’s just mainly for photos and music now a days.

Never had a MacBook before. Your previous reviews helped very much to go for the M1 Air over the Pro. Went for the 512gb version. Ps and Lr user and a career change to coding 🙏🏻
I've had my base M1 MBA since the day was available and I just... love it. Honestly one of the best Macs I've ever had. I do occasionally miss my previous 15" screen with my 50 year old eyes, but the battery time and the minimized weight in my bag totally makes up for it. I do pretty typical stuff on it--Office365, Skype, Zoom, Safari, Scrivener, and Take Control to dial into client's machines for work--and the 8GB RAM hasn't been an issue at all. I've played WoW on it for a couple hours to test it and... it never even got warm. Crazy. Though gaming did eat the battery a lot faster :) I was so sure I was going to try it and feel the need to return it for a 13" Pro with 16GB RAM and I was wrong. Which is good for my bank account. This is definitely the best MacBook and the best laptop of the year, for sure.
I sold my 2019 MBP to get this one. Not a single regret. My favorite apple laptop of all times. Maybe after my nostalgic 2014 MBPr but that's mostly for nostalgic purposes.
I agree. Fantastic laptop. Along with the issue of only 2 USB C ports is the fact that you can only connect one external monitor. That to me is the biggest flaw. Otherwise I’m happy with the purchase of the M1 MacBook Air.
The Macbook M1 is very impressive, but as a laptop nerd, I wouldn't say it's the best laptop of 2020 although I can't argue that it is one of THE best. Anyhow, good video!
Got one for my girlfriend for Christmas and I can’t wait to give it to her!!! Got her the I3 model originally and I was not sure the preformance would be good enough even though she really is not gonna be doing anything demanding but she mentioned wanting to play a few games and that wasn’t going to happen and than Apple dropped this I retuned the I3 got the m1 and now I can’t wait
Picked up the pro after seeing if the air was in stock.. Absolutely insane! Using lightroom, and photoship together with ease for hours while having loads of other apps running 👀👀
I bought one after moving away from apple computers 5 years ago and switching to pc and so far a few days in I've had wifi issues as well as many bugs but I'm sure it's just a matter of time before more developers get their hands on them.
I just recently upgraded my 2015 MacBook Pro to the 2021 M1 MacBook Pro. The main reason was because I needed more memory. So I paid more for the 1 TB of storage. Do you think I made a good buy?
''My kingdom for a cool and quiet Windows laptop''......If they had a Windows laptop as good as the M1 Air in performance, thermals and fan noise then I'd get it tomorrow. I've had BBQs cooler and vacuum cleaners quieter than some of the laptops I've tried in the past 3 months....Excellent video.
Watching this on my base model M1 MBA. So happy with my purchase. It's also my first Apple computer because it's the first time I've seen an apple computer that is actually cheaper than the competition. Great investment.
Great video. However, you failed to mention a critical issue to your viewers. The front-facing camera on the M1 Air quality is horrendous. It produces grainy images for all video chats, regardless of the app. This is a big deal since people are working from home and using it consistently. I see a lot of RUclips videos leave this critical info out in their reviews. If you're buying the M1, check the camera quality in-store, or you're going to be very unhappy.
I just bought the 8 core cpu and gpu variant with 512 gb storage since the base model was sold out in all the in store pickup locations near me and it's insanely good so far. Its about the same price as the MacBook Pro and If you ask me its really similar performance just without a fan and and double the storage than the MacBook Pro base model similar price variant and it doesn't have the Touch Bar so it's a win win situation. I definitely recommend it and if you're reading this and have the chance to buy it, you definitely should.
Gary: I have watched and enjoyed all of your videos on the M1 Macs. I have always been a Windows based laptop user having recently retired from a corporation where the IT Department would not consider an Apple Computer. My current use of a laptop consists of some light word processing, some spreadsheets, e-mail and predominately internet usage. I really do not know why I have interest in an Apple Laptop other than I need to replace my current machine. Maybe it is because Apple Users have always been so passionate about their computers! If I pull the trigger on a Macbook Air would you recommend I get it with the 16 GB of Ram and 8 core CPU or just go with the base unit? Whatever unit I purchase I will likely keep it until it dies! Thanks again for your work with these informative videos. Happy Holidays!
I pulled the trigger this morning on the Air with 16GB, 8 core GPU and 512GB Ram. I will purchase an external SSD for additional storage. Unfortunately Apple made on a few of the machines configured as I ordered so I will have to wait a month to receive. Please keep your informative videos coming.
I got mine after waiting two weeks and I traded in my OLD, 15" MacBook Pro 2014, and I am not looking back. This computer will be VERY popular and I can already see it happening because the shipping date keeps extending out farther and farther. However, this computer is NOT for extreme gaming, codes, and video editing. It can handle LIGHT tasks there BUT, get the PRO.

I started doing some editing on my m1 mac air and lemme tell you it works absolutely fine. I‘m in love with it
I am now using a M1 MacBook Pro, and for today I started to use it with 100% battery life and then unplugged, after more then 9 hours of intermittently using for safari, RUclips, MS Word, and a lot of other small apps, my M1 MacBook still have 71% of battery life! No only amazing, this is unbelievable !!!!
Bought yesterday eve!! ❤️❤️
Can’t wait for the order 👩🏻💻
Great video as always, thank youuuu
Mine is coming Wednesday MBP M1 16 GB can't wait....
Your gunna love it! Got mine last week
Mine should be here tomorrow
But no gold color in MBP😪
@@ajazshaik7202 Yeah but i like space grey more lol😁
@@Arshad_Muhammed Haha😂 enjoy bro🔥
I've got the Air M1. Completely agree with this video. BEST computer I've ever bought. My first was a Compaq in the early 90s that cost over $2k. It hurts to say that.
You should do a tour of your studio for 2020 and show us your tech closet with the amount of laptops in it👍
Love this little fellah, amazingly fast - it's so zippy and stays perfectly cool in clamshell, I'm considering phasing out my current mac mini desktop 🥳
I bought the Pro M1 because I didn't feel comfortable buying a fanless computer. I'm loving it!
This is the sign I've been waiting for to purchase one. Thank you!
Not even one month later for me, and I've already dropped and dented the metal, poor thing 😥 finally decided to order a case for it cause apparently I'm not responsible enough lol. This is my first MacBook and I seriously love it
i’ve been waiting for my macbook air since january 6th, i can’t wait!
watching this on my new M1 MacBook Air that just arrived this evening. Thanks for the reviews Gary!
Please be careful with all of your batteries plugged into one extension! Love the m1 content.
I'm looking forward to watching this video as my 2018 macbook pro gets SUPER loud and hot. Keep up the great work!
I finally got the maxed out MBP less than 2 weeks ago. At first I was nervous. It got really hot like the intel model but after the initial startup/setup, it hasn't gotten hot at all. Battery and speed of it is amazing. I just love it and this will most likely last me a while. Maybe even into retirement.
i upgraded from my unibody macbook pro mid 2012 to the m1 macbook air and man was it an upgrade
No don’t wait
if you need it now, buy it now. if not, you can wait some more. newer and better tech will always come out every year and you’ll just be stuck waiting if you keep on waiting for new releases.
Get it now it’s just that good with no first gen issues
I was going to purchase an iPad Air and that got delayed and eventually the MacBook Air M1 was released and when I compared the two I opted for a MacBook rather knowing full well that I never used Mac OS ever and I'm a long time windows user and that might be a challenge, I finally got the M1Air and I really like this device and the battery life is legit and its snappy and compact I use it for photo editing and writing and its good.
Thanks for the videos and advice Gary its always a pleasure watching your videos.
incredible value for the price point, bought mine on sale for $949
Getting mine tomorrow. Excited!
My 2014 MBP has been a beast and I recently upgraded they SSD drive on it. The screen has all these little blotches on it but you only see them when light hits it and it’s off. I see no reason to upgrade because I don’t use it that much anymore. It’s just mainly for photos and music now a days.
I keep looking for videos exactly like this to help convince myself that I made the right choice buying this and justifying my purchase.
Haha, same here. Collecting my MBA m1 tomorrow. Is the hype real btw?
@@thachvo8331 I haven’t opened mine yet! 😆 I’ve had it for over a month. I’m wanting to do an unboxing video for a new channel, but waiting to get my camera and my room set up nice for the video. I’m m sure the hype is real, I just wish the MBA was lighter. 2.8 pounds is a lot. Let me know how yours is when you get it and what color you got!
@@rowelle I just got it and didn't open yet. I got stuff to do, I want to be really free to experience it all. Good luck with your channel, mate. I'll subscribe
@@rowelle unbox this shit on the 31/12, been using about 3-4h/ day (mostly RUclips, surfing the net, office works) I only needed to charge it once. Yeah once. Battery life approved. The moment I was typing this the battery is at 30%
@@thachvo8331 Unreal! Thanks for the update! Do you also do any kind of video editing or photo editing? What color/configuration did you get?
Never had a MacBook before. Your previous reviews helped very much to go for the M1 Air over the Pro.
Went for the 512gb version. Ps and Lr user and a career change to coding 🙏🏻
It's all on you that I bought myself a Macbook Air as replacement for my 2015 MBP, Gary!
And I love it!
If you add a thermal pad to make the bottom a heat sink/lap warmer it makes it perform as well as the pro.
I agree. Fantastic laptop. Along with the issue of only 2 USB C ports is the fact that you can only connect one external monitor. That to me is the biggest flaw. Otherwise I’m happy with the purchase of the M1 MacBook Air.
Facts. I feel you on that one!! I now have 5 writing spaces in my house and a bunch of desktops and laptops. I lockdown roll.
You remind me of Sheldon cooper from The big bang theory when you wear the superman shirt 😂😂💕✨
The Macbook M1 is very impressive, but as a laptop nerd, I wouldn't say it's the best laptop of 2020 although I can't argue that it is one of THE best. Anyhow, good video!
Ok I’m sold! Been looking to invest in a new laptop I’ve had my old surface for 7 years. Just have to wait until it is in stock of the gold 512GB 🥺
Great review. I am getting one for Christmas. Can’t wait!
I bought one after moving away from apple computers 5 years ago and switching to pc and so far a few days in I've had wifi issues as well as many bugs but I'm sure it's just a matter of time before more developers get their hands on them.
Got my m1 macbook air! Super excited
Finally upgrading from my 8 year old Windows laptop
Thank you for keeping me under budget by showing how even the 7 gpu core M1 is super good
I just recently upgraded my 2015 MacBook Pro to the 2021 M1 MacBook Pro.
The battery life and ease of usage is in itself worth the purchase.
What color is the mac book air you have in your video?? Space Gray or Silver?? Thanks great vid.
Can’t wait for mine to be here. I think this would be awesome in school👨🏼💻😍
Watching this on my new m1 MacBook Air !!!
Do you use Chrome or Safari? What about battery?
How is your battery in terms of hours
@@FilipBzik Safari and the new safari is better than chrome I guess. I use my mac for my online classes and my editing . From one charge I use it 2-3 days😊
@@marc7073 I use it 2-3 days from one charge
Mine’s on pre-order, won’t arrive till mid Jan! Cant come soon enough!!
How’s your MacBook going? Can I do multi tasking and does it support social media’s like Facebook or Instagram ? What are the downsides ? Sorry I don’t know much about MacBooks
I love how he slam the laptop shut then rethinks it almost immediately. 😂😂😂
I’d always prefer to have a laptop! A laptop you can hook up to a monitor and use externals to have a desktop, and then when you’re on the go, just unplug and go! Most of my waking hours are on a laptop and I imagine a lot of people who get a laptop don’t ever want to not have one again.
Every Day Dad said macbook air is the best for continuous 15 mins.... Heck I'll buy it!
