I'm confused. Towards the end of this video, you say, "You shouldn't buy a MacbookAir in the first place.", while in the MacBook Air M2 vs. Macbook Pro, you don't say that at all. You actually advice buying an M2 MacBook Air if you like the design, etc. What gives?

Thanks for the great video 🤩... I would love to see how the M2 performs in terms of productivity for heavy chrome users (chrome with lots of extensions, Gmail, Google sheet, etc) when compared to the M1.
I have a question, does the M1 see a drop in Frames after playing world of war craft after an extended period of time? I guess my question, and I have yet to see anyone really answer this, does the M2’s thermal throttling cause it to perform worse than the M1 after both being played for extended period or do they both drop drop so that the M1 is still performing worse?
Love your vids!- but on your next video could you just hold it in different possess to get a sense of the look and feel? Maybe one where you hold it on your side, next to your hip, like you hold a book when you are walking to class. And maybe another one holding it up against your chest like a 50’s girl waiting near her locker talking about her crush… hopefully this made sense. Thank you in advance.
And I assume that the fast charger will work just as well on the M1 MBA, wouldn't it? And I'll be keeping my 2019 16" MBP for the heavy lifting in FCP, so the sheer performance is not critical for me. I think the standard M1 MBA is good value, and I'll probably get the base model (256GB); very good value.
I bought the m1 MacBook Air last September to replace my 2015 MacBook Pro, and it is awesome. The price for m2 MacBook Air is a joke, MacBook Air is suppose to be affordable, but it has an incredibly similar price with the m2 MacBook Pro. Whether you are a casual user or a working professional, the M1 MacBook is more than enough, especially for its price.
In Canada the price difference between the MacBook Air 16RAM/512 SSD vs a Base model 14 inch pro with a student discount is nearly around 460. After sales tax it’s a nearly a 520 price difference between the two models. If you’re a basic user or a university student (that is not an architect or design engineer) I don’t see how you could possibly justify a pro
I have a pro for music and graphics. I wanted an Air for writing and general use, and for me, the M1 is so much better. M1 feels like it targets a different audience, the slant is very nice for writing, and I think the design is much nicer. M2 just feels like a less significant version of the Pro, and now it's only about 100 quid cheaper than a 13" pro, so whats the point in it?
The Logic track test doesn't say much without showing all the plugins you are running for each track and also which plugins as this will play a huge role. Just playing tracks alone without anything surely can give you over 200 tracks, but the plugins and VST's are what makes this test interesting :)

Which of these two is better for a university use (take notes, watching videos, using excel and other stuff)?: -MBA with 512 of SSD and 8gb of RAM - MBA with 256 gb of SSD (with the storage issue) and 16 go of RAM Considering that I would like to keep this MacBook for at least 5-6 years
Text documents take up very little space, so I would go with the RAM upgrade as it will affect your daily usage more. If you need to offload some video lectures or big files needed for studies, you can always buy an external drive.
@@megga6459 I usually work with big excel files and have a lot of open tabs. For example, now I have opened 14 tabs (6 of 8 RAM used and 0,3 Gb swapped) and during work, it can be +10 tabs of google tables or similar staff. Now I'm using a MacBook Air 2018 with an i5 intel CPU, 8 RAM, and 128 SSD. And for the last year, it lags a lot when I scroll through google sheets or big excel files. Sometimes swap goes up to 4-5 Gb of memory. Also, I have only 12 Gb of free space left. New models go with 256 SSD now, so it can be much better. But still, do you think a better option is 16 Gb of RAM rather than 512 SSD?
think about this: you can always get an external hard drive if you need more memory (SSD), but it's a pain if not impossible to get a bigger RAM by yourself.

Hello. I want to have a nice experience in areas such as video/film, note-taking, listening music, and editing, and I'm looking for a "long-lasting" device. In other words, my priorities include high-quality visuals, quality audio, writing experience, etc. MacBook M1 - 16GB - 256 (Is it unreasonable to buy it because it's 2020?) MacBook M2 - 16GB - 256 (2022) The M2 version is $230 more expensive, but I can afford it. However, some say that if the M2 doesn't have a 512GB SSD, it might experience slowness. Is this noticeable problem? I think the M2 being more recent is a good thing for longevity. Does the M2 provide a noticeable different experience compared to the M1 based on the features I'm looking for? The issue of "slowness" bothers me, especially if it doesn't have the 512GB.

I’m a student that doesn’t use any photo editing apps or stuff like that. I just web browse and watch movies on RUclips and Netflix. Which do you guys think is better for me? Is the display and screen upgrade significant to be worth the extra $200? Is m2 faster for web browsing?
No. Go for M1 Air.
You should go for the M1 MacBook air. And invest that saved ($200) in other necessary stuff. M1 MacBook is powerful enough. I'm a 2017 intel MacBook user, and I use it 8-10 hours daily. I use around 25+ open tabs daily in chrome + photoshop, and web designing, so during summer time It has major heating issues, but I'm still satisfied with its performance (And it has only 2 core CPU, but M1 has 8 core, think how fast it will be) because it's been 5 five old with an intel processor MacBook air. So, I'm also going to upgrade, but I will go for the M2(because I do some heavy work), But for you definitely, the M1 MacBook air is more than enough.
Also, It's future-proof for you. I mean If you want to do some heavy work in the future, you can definitely do that.
Rest all is your choice, it's your money. Do what you want :)
M1
M1 MBA base.....spend the savings on something of value.
Another excellent video, Daniel! I've been using an M1 12.9" iPad Pro + magic keyboard as a sorta laptop replacement setup for about a year. It's worked pretty well, but I'm ready for a real laptop as my mobile computer. The M2 Air (Midnight 16GB/512GB) is the one for me. Just gotta deal with the wait until August 3.
You've made the right decision. 16/512 is the sweet spot. You're going to love it.
I just wish you could push yourself a little bit more and bought the MacBook pro 14inch with the M1 pro chip. Now that's an amazing machine.
Late answer but I hope you chosed 8 gpu version, 10 gpu version has quick termal throttling
How was it?? 🤩
Thank you! I've made up my mind to go for M1 Air and will be saving $$$. M1 Air is more than enough for my PC needs.
M1 still the beast
@@Salty_Biscuitz88 no fan though. Does it have a cooling vent?
@@kelvinmorris1991 Doesn't need a fan, it's silent.
I agree M1 is just perfect and smooth.
I was eagerly waiting for that comparison 😃
Thanks Dan
I am going with MBA M1 or M1 Pro 14"
Daniel, I love the attention to detail, especially with the keyboard color differences, bezels, scuffing, etc. Thank you so much. 🙏🏻
TRID hi
Do you still recommend the M1 24” iMac, or do you suggest waiting for a possible 27” M2?
Finally some real benchmark that take the battery in consideration.
I'm positive impressed and I would like to buy the Air M2, it's a huge upgrade from my current Air 2011
this is fraud...don't trust..he wants money for delivery..beware of all these fraud things
Great comparison. It would be great to see how 16gb ram with 512GB SSD compares to bace model of M1 Pro 14” as the price is very similar now. In sone shops, you can even get base 14” M1 Pro macbook for less than specked up M2 Air.
I would like to see how good the m2 mba suits against the 14” m1 mbp
doesnt come close
I went with the m1 pro 14
I just got this Mac with M2 base config in Austria at 1099 €. It's my first Macbook and i hope it will perform good in the future. Cheers mate and good review.
How about comparing the 500 and the 400 nits display outside (sunlight)? That would be insightful.
i am choosing between m2 air and m1 pro 14. price isn't an issue for me so if the macbook pro 14 inch wasn't so heavy i would've already bought it. And if the m2 air had pro motion and just as good speakers, would've already bought it.
I went w the m1 pro 14
m1 pro is worth is. 200GB/s memory bandwidth vs 100GB/s on m2. It's one of the reasons that the m1pro gpu is ~40% faster
If you have the time you could wait for the M2 Pro/Max to release. We know they are coming eventually at least
@@Doc_Sans don't have time to wait for another year sadly
update: I went for the M2 air instead (it's lighter, I like the midnight color, I don't need the extra ports or power, I got 50% off AirPods Pro because of Student discount. I will be using those mostly instead of the speakers as I live in a dorm with other college roommates. The only sad thing is I really wanted pro motion
I'm confused. Towards the end of this video, you say, "You shouldn't buy a MacbookAir in the first place.", while in the MacBook Air M2 vs. Macbook Pro, you don't say that at all. You actually advice buying an M2 MacBook Air if you like the design, etc. What gives?
He said “maybe if you do a lot transporting (as in travelling) then you should upgrade” then he goes on to saying “even then, you shouldn’t buy a MacBook in the first place”.
I always love the information i get from your videos
Thanks for the great video 🤩... I would love to see how the M2 performs in terms of productivity for heavy chrome users (chrome with lots of extensions, Gmail, Google sheet, etc) when compared to the M1.
Crome destroys memory and allows Google to harvest all your data and sell it to other Companies. I can't understand why people use it.
heavy chrome user? lol...M1 is more than you'll ever need
Why use Chrome. Chrome is horrible.
If that’s all you’re looking for don’t waste your money just get a older Mac book. M series chips are the best out there
That is heavy?????
Great comparison! I just love this kind of postings! Very informative. Please keep them coming and thank you 😊
I have a question, does the M1 see a drop in Frames after playing world of war craft after an extended period of time? I guess my question, and I have yet to see anyone really answer this, does the M2’s thermal throttling cause it to perform worse than the M1 after both being played for extended period or do they both drop drop so that the M1 is still performing worse?
Just ordered my M2 last night in silver, excited! I went with the classic color.
How bad is the throttling compared to the MacBook Air m1?
Thanks for the review, the best and most detailed comparison I have watched so far and I need such information, well done
“MacBook Air is supposed to be affordable” the first MacBook Air retailed for $1600
@@Yzyenthusiast it’s ok. Some people just don’t think before they speak xD
3:31 I canceled my online order immediately. Thank you for pointing that out! Now what colour should I order? A Very hard decision.
Lov your review and real comparison details. You are the Best!!!
Thanks so much 😊
If I buy the M1 Mac Book Air today with 256GB/8GB specs, will it have a single SSD or two 128GB ones?
The Logic track test doesn't say much without showing all the plugins you are running for each track and also which plugins as this will play a huge role. Just playing tracks alone without anything surely can give you over 200 tracks, but the plugins and VST's are what makes this test interesting :)
As a content creator (basic stuffs like 1080 p editting and sometimes 4k, photo editting), should I choose M2 air.. can you please do some comparison and let us know on this ?
Hello, sir i want to do medical coding, and normal ussse, so which laptop should I purchase Mackbook Air M1 or Asus Rog strix G15 ,i am sooo confused..,plz reply..
I was seriously thinking of going for the blue…but those scuff marks around the usb c port is a DEAL BREAKER. You literally just unboxed it and already reminds me of the “ jet black” iPhone 7s. The paint just vanishes
Ain't that the truth 👍
probably not paint, but rather anodized aluminum. Regardless once it's scratched it's permanent and appearance will only get worse with more scratches and perhaps impact its resale value just like a vehicle.
I was able to get an open box 512 ssd 16gb m1 pro for $1000 and after seeing videos like this I’m pretty happy with the purchase
Congrats bro. You won big time.
Great price!
Remember guys, companies always sets the base products withe obvious cripples for setting up the price point for their other high end products. Unless there is a competition from other/rival companies.
Thank you for the comparison. That’s very helpful !

The Midnight color is 🔥 Good job ordering that color and with this comparison. I have been looking forward to see the M2 Midnight.
I'm not worried about smudges. It is the cost of doing business because the Silver color is uncool and Space Grey is tired. Am I wrong?
This M2 MBA is fantastic. 1080P camera, 13.6, supports Spatial Audio and includes Touch ID.
Cannot wait for mine to arrive
Hey,
can you tell me about your experience with the MacBook Air m2 midnight?
I’m planning to buy the m2 version in midnight but I’m scared you will notice the fingerprints to much, can you tell me if the fingerprints are noticeable?
Can you also tell me if the color around the usb c connections quickly disappears as shown in this video?
thanks in advance for answering my questions.
This was exactly what I was looking for. Much appreciated!!
Need help deciding what if you never owned a MacBook Air. Should I go with the m1 or m2 ? My usage will be regular internet browsing paying bills. Dj software to mix at the house. What ya think ? Help me please !
thank you for the video. i wonder when wow play, how's temperature.
Excellent review! Thank you for the numbers comparisons and for your conclusion.
Which of these two is better for a university use (take notes, watching videos, using excel and other stuff)?:
-MBA with 512 of SSD and 8gb of RAM
- MBA with 256 gb of SSD (with the storage issue) and 16 go of RAM
Considering that I would like to keep this MacBook for at least 5-6 years
Text documents take up very little space, so I would go with the RAM upgrade as it will affect your daily usage more. If you need to offload some video lectures or big files needed for studies, you can always buy an external drive.
I have the same question. After watching a few videos I still don't know which option is better
Why teeter-totter on memory? Higher ram means faster abilities. Higher memory means your computer can remember a lot more.
think about this: you can always get an external hard drive if you need more memory (SSD), but it's a pain if not impossible to get a bigger RAM by yourself.
I m just amazed by the comparison and test in real world scenarios. Thanku very much.
any chance you could do the actual temp measurments after playing wow for 30 mins on each system?
Thanks for comparing the factors that actually matter. Very helpful and informative video
I like how fair and neutral this video is; immediately not saying M2 base is immediately bad due to the ssd performance
This video convinced me to get the base m2; for my use case its way more than sufficient
This video was so helpful!
Thank you so much! 🙏🏻
may i ask for an opinion.. I was planing to buy this macbook, but I’m gonna use solidwork for next semester, is macbook is the best option for me?
Yep. Sticking with my M1 MBA. I’m not impressed at all. I still prefer the M1 MBA design to the M2 MBA
I totally agree! I have the M1 Air and the design and feel is so much better.
Not to mention doubt if you have the money to upgrade so quickly.
so the speed issue won’t happened on the 2TB M2 air right?
i have m1 MBA from last two years, and excepts for the 100 nits of brightness i don't find any reason to upgrade rather m1 MBA has faster storage on base model. Even if have to buy a new mackbook i would go for 16gb m1 MBA rather than m2 MBA base model and still save some money with little bit better product overall.
This is such a great video going through the in depth details of each macbook! Great comprehensive video, keep up the great work!
I have a Dell XPS 13 right now and want to switch to the MBA. I'm not sure about the MBA M1 vs M2. Which is the better one to go for in your opinion?
Best review Thankyou
Hello. I want to have a nice experience in areas such as video/film, note-taking, listening music, and editing, and I'm looking for a "long-lasting" device. In other words, my priorities include high-quality visuals, quality audio, writing experience, etc.
MacBook M1 - 16GB - 256 (Is it unreasonable to buy it because it's 2020?)
MacBook M2 - 16GB - 256 (2022)
The M2 version is $230 more expensive, but I can afford it.
I have a Intel MacBook Air 2018 and would like to know if its a worthy upgrade to M2 Air.
10000000%
So Im thinking of buying a new macbook air and was trying to decide between the M1 and M2. Im not doing any editing, programming or whatsoever. I basically just use it for standard university stuff, creating powerpoint präsentations, surfing on the internet like twitch, youtube etc. Is the M1 the better choice in that case? It is 300€ cheaper than the M2. I would appreciate any opinions
The M1 is the best buy, if money matters.
I will wait for the M2.5 or M3.
Hopefully the bump will be bigger, less expensive, no notch
Anyone have any suggestions for a computer science major student looking to buy his first MacBook? I ordered the m2 and after watching all these vidoes I think ima cancel and get the m1
Please end those videos with: “should I upgrade if I have a MBA 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, etc”, not just the last one.
Just bought the M1 and I love it
Nice vid! Where can we find the wallpapers you used on the thumbnail?
Did Tim Cook personally water color the midnight version to save cost? Ridiculous how the color comes off.
Lmaooo funniest comment i have seen in a while
M1 MBP, 2 memory modules, all motor, no tuning issues.
That throwing bag was personal 😌🤣
great review
Regarding the battery, I'd say M2's battery is new so it can't be compared to M1's as it has consumed some of its capacity already.
