My apartment was broken into when I was a teenager because I was very blind to how messed up the world could be and didn’t lock my door. I was beat pretty severely by 5 people and had to go to the hospital. I’ve found this channel since then and have watched pretty much every video you guys have posted any they have helped me so much. I just moved to a new apartment in a pretty sketchy area and work night shifts. I got home at 3 am and saw some furniture laying out I wanted. I started loading r it up into my car and had some guy with a hoodie and backpack walk up to my car and leaned half way into my car and started speaking Spanish. I don’t speak Spanish and tried telling him that but noticed he started following my car when I drove off. Well I got my knife ready inside my bag and when I got out he was right outside my car. He kept talking to me in Spanish and I started getting very angry at this point and putting distance between us. He then pulled up google translate and I read “can I help you bring that inside your apartment” I told him no and please leave right now because he was seconds away from getting a knife pulled on him. Well a neighbor walked out of the complex to me yelling at him, and he finally walks off into the darkness. It was sketchy as hell and when I was a teenager and before I watched these videos, who knows, I might have let him inside the building. I was super friendly and would speak to anybody I met but sadly life has taught me very well that there are some pretty evil creatures lurking in the shadows. I carry pepper spray and a knife now because I can’t carry a gun legally (I’m bipolar). I’ve never had to use either of them but it’s nice knowing I have them on me just in case I need them.
My wife and I were in the parking lot of a large local Mall recently to meet our daughter and son-in-law and pick up the grandkids for a weekend stay. They live 60 miles away so we meet in the middle. their dad is busy transferring car seats and luggage, etc., kids are going crazy, everybody is talking and so forth. There aren't any cars around us since we parked away from the building and I hear something and look around to see a full size pick up literally bearing down on us at a pretty high rate of speed. Vehicle windows are fairly opaque these days and I can't see the occupants but the creep alarm went off pretty strongly and when they were about 25 yards away, without showing anything I placed my hand on the butt of my pistol (CCP holder here) still covered but ready to draw, and focussed my gaze directly on the truck. I was standing in full sight of them so I know they saw me and they shot past us (no pun intended) and kept going without stopping or slowing down. I'll never know what their intentions were or were not, but it didn't look good. I've been subscribed to Johns' channel for quite a while now and it's his advice that has really helped me to stay safe and aware. Thanks, John.
always back into your driveway, much harder to sneak up on someone when they are walking up your driveway, if you see a car you don't recognize, exercise caution. If you have a bad vibe, drive off and go somewhere else.
My drive up ATM routine is to scout the situation before I drive into the ATM lane by drivign the full loop around the building and checking out who is around in cars in the parking lot and I only go to the locations that aren't "chutes" where there are curbs or partial walls that trap you into the drive up lane. I pull super close so that there is no room between my car and the wall/machine so that nobody can come up to my window or get a gun in. I get my OC spray out and in my right hand, and then I keep looking around as I am taking out my money. As I leave I look around and notice any cars in the parking lot and behind me in the ATM line and then I take a way home that requires a few unusual/extra turns so it is super easy to see if anyone is following.
Thanks to this type of content and John in particular, a few days ago I was walking along and noticed a white ball cap, I never thought about and out of habit crossed the street clear my six and a few hundred metres laters white ball cap was behind me again. THAT caught my attention, I ducked into a few shops, the type that have rear doors connecting and popped out in a different street and white ball cap was not behind me. During all this I'd stopped heading towards home and was moving about 90° off, when crossing the street again I saw White ball cap crossing parallel to me at 50m away. I knew I was in trouble, luckily I was close to a friends pub and security is tight. I stopped pretending and ran. If you wonder why someone may be following me, am a Pharma rep, my product is a very very strong opioid and I usually have physicians samples on me. Its a bit pricey in the chemist but on the streets it would be expensive.
It's crazy. These guys aren't wealthy. He had $120 in cash from a check cashing store (not even a bank) and is pulling up to a 290k home that is owned by a family member (his uncle) and in an older work truck in a normal working class neighborhood. But those criminals really thought they were going to score.
If you notice someone following you home from the bank why on earth do you drive home and not to a police station??? If I notice them I would have called the 911 to tell them what was going on and ask them what police station I should go to.

Well YOU SHOULD NEVER DRAW FROM THE DROP IF YOU DON'T HAVE A ROUND IN CHAMBER LIKE THIS GUY. Go watch the video again and you can clearly see the guy trying to rack a round into his gun while having a gun pointed at him. Like why would you not carry a firearm without a round in the chamber, because shit can go from 0-100 in less then a second like here, and you don't have time to chamber a round into your gun.
@@tibzig1 Well just shows you need more practice. What made all the difference in the world for me was doing competition shooting like steel challenge, USPSA, IPSC, where your draw MATTERS A LOT. It's an understandable mistake to make, in that split second I'm sure he thought showing the gun would do the job but the very understandable mistake is that with his back turned and the gun already aimed at him such a threat is just not much of a deterrent and more of a red-flag-to-a-bull. If the defender had been facing the attacker and the attacker wasn't yet aiming a gun at him then maybe displaying a gun would have had the desired effect.

I had someone follow me from the bank after making a cash withdrawal in Austin. I had left my phone at and drove to a police precinct. Had my LTT P30 on me, but didn’t want to get into a preventable situation. I walk with a limp after a stroke and look like a victim.
It looks like the victim was chambering a round at the initial draw and if so, that slowed him down and may have contributed to the outcome. While I’m not sure about luck either, I believe luck played a role in me surviving a 1974 gunfight. Good points in your video.

The victim seemed fairly nonchalant in his response to approaching armed dirtbags.

For some reason he thought showing them his gun would scare them away while walking away with his back turned.
Firearms training should be mandatory in order to carry. Otherwise it's more of a danger to have one as shown here.

I thought so too. As to scare them off. But that's not the safest move, especially if you're not concealed.
Good to hear that he is home again with his family
always back into your driveway, much harder to sneak up on someone when they are walking up your driveway, if you see a car you don't recognize, exercise caution. If you have a bad vibe, drive off and go somewhere else.
We always do. In parking lots also, when possible.
Best ad for direct deposit I’ve ever seen! Hope that guy recovers quickly!
My Grandfather warned us about this and somehow he was the asshole.
If you wonder why someone may be following me, am a Pharma rep, my product is a very very strong opioid and I usually have physicians
samples on me. Its a bit pricey in the chemist but on the streets it would be expensive.
Congratulation on your awareness. This content and your awareness may have saved your life.
Thanks to John's videos I'm constantly aware of my surroundings especially when I'm at the ATM.

It's crazy. These guys aren't wealthy. He had $120 in cash from a check cashing store (not even a bank) and is pulling up to a 290k home that is owned by a family member (his uncle) and in an older work truck in a normal working class neighborhood. But those criminals really thought they were going to score.

that thing about looking at the watch but not actually seeing what time it is, is spot on
I think if you don't possess the ability to "see it coming" there's not much you can do. They'll get the drop on you every time. Most of the time I know when someone is following me if it's for any distance. Think I definitely would have noticed a red Dodge Charger following me.
I’ve never had to “draw from the drop” yet and I pray I never have to.
Me neither. But I did "drop from the draw!" While practicing drawing at home, I slipped and fell. Seriously.
So my draw to first shot with a CZ shadow 2, went from 1.5 seconds to now under a second due to steel challenge, USPSA, IPSC, and PCSL.
Yes, I do. But what has made a major difference for me is buying a good quality holster. The old one was the cause of a lot of issues. I practice a lot of dry fire and reloading with my Sig P365 at home. I wish I had the time to go out and shoot more and learn from competitive shooting but with 70 hours a week of work, it is difficult, to say the least.@@DJG37S

I’m so confused why did the guy who dropped him off leave and never come back?
Cat and mouse chase with robbers or illegal amigo.
What do you expect the brother to do? Get shot as well?
If you watch the raw video he does come back
And his brother bolts right away. Damn.
Am I the only one that’s hyper aware? I don’t even go in my backyard without having my gun.
I don't know why but I assumed the brother in the truck was going to take out the guys that just might have killed his brother.
Thanks for this VID. Good suggestion is to drive through ATM further away from home if you know you will stop. I realize i stop at ATM too close to home while a longer drive may deter followers..?
I don't think that really matters.
Going by the way they moved, I'd say those robber/would-be murderers were teens to mid-twenties. Who is growing these murderous thugs? Are their mothers, siblings, sweethearts, friends all involved in criminal activity or are they ashamed that these people turned out this way?

you have to be extra alert if you notice ybm's . do not dismiss them in your head because of feelings of guilt. the numbers are real on who commits crimes of a certain type
Great advice! People have been programmed to feel guilt about knowing the truth. Not only will the truth set you free, it may help you to live longer.
Let's keep awareness people!
I don't know if a personal med kit would have been much use in this situation. He was shot twice in the back. Plus the level of training with a firearm kind of shows where he is at when it comes to self defense and preservation. But even if he was trained, it would be difficult to apply medical attention to your back. Most people can barely wash their backs in the shower.

Ol boys voice just done him in.
I had someone follow me from the bank after making a cash withdrawal in Austin. I had left my phone at and drove to a police precinct. Had my LTT P30 on me, but didn’t want to get into a preventable situation. I walk with a limp after a stroke and look like a victim.
It shows how brazen (or stupid) these criminals have gotten to be pulling armed robberies in Texas where everyone is armed.
Get a job homeboy.
Public schools should hire John to make a video course on active self protection and they should have a class to learn trauma medical.
Don't move, homeboy? How bout you don't move ever again.
The victim thought that showing off his gun will drive the suspects away....disastrous mistake...
Never turn your ASP to a potential shooter when you're trying to protect your ASP!
He was racking the slide when he moved the gun towards his head.
It looks like the victim was chambering a round at the initial draw and if so, that slowed him down and may have contributed to the outcome. While I’m not sure about luck either, I believe luck played a role in me surviving a 1974 gunfight. Good points in your video.
7:34 John says the shooter is about 8-10 yards away. I found the house on Google maps and based on an exterior door height and the location of both individuals the distance looks to be 25-28 feet so right in that range.
