The only malfunction I’ve ever experienced in a revolver was crimp jump, ammo related problem, locking up the cylinder. Fortunately it happened on the range long after my ‘97 retirement.
I've had a couple students in my CCDW classes that have had problems with crimp jumping. I'm not saying it was the same problem with you but almost all of them where smaller ladies shooting +p ammo out of tiny light weight 38's. Lack of grip straight was probably what lead to the malfunction in this video after the first couple of shots she took at home
I edc a revolver. When in shoot it with gloves, the glove material on my trigger finger gets stuck under the trigger and prevents the firing mechanism from fully resetting. It’s unnoticeable while firing until the rounds stop firing or you try to remove your finger from the well. Happens 100% of them time when I wear gloves (so I don’t wear gloves anymore)

@@mitchkinney7662 I have seen Taurus' come out of the box in gun stores with rust, timing off in revolvers, poor quality rifling, and pitting in the barrel. 3 critical skills this young man had that absolutely needs to be mentally rehearsed. 1. First Responder Reaction: The moment he realized his life was in danger, he reacted. You can't hesitate, you can't respond verbally (when it's this high intensity and emergent). You get after the danger and you end it. 2. Empty Handed Skills: He clearly does not have a high level of empty handed skill training, but he had ENOUGH skill to use his size and strength advantage to overwhelm her and prevent her from continuing to be a danger. 3. Calm Demeanor: From the moment he tells his family she has a gun to when he says "I could have died" all the way to the end of the video, he does not allow himself to become erratic and emotionally compromised in his actions, which is very easy to do when you realize you almost died a few seconds ago. He does what he needs to do and that's ultimately what saved him.
Jerry Miculek did an excellent short video about things NOT to do with your revolver because they can mess with the reliability and timing of the revolver, which leads to malfunctions. I highly recommend watching if you own or fire revolvers.
First of all my prayers are with the boys and the family. I work in a store that sells firearms and I can't tell you how many times I've seen quite a few of the lower end revolvers fail a functions check and we have to send them back to the manufacturer. One of the best wives tales is that revolvers don't fail.
This goes to show that we need to plan for ‘family/friend’ incidents not just strangers. If this was a stranger I think he (we) would have acted differently (held her down, etc).
This story is not only horribly sad, but gut wrenchingly disturbing. This non human woman is currently on the wrong side of the grass. The ultimate betrayal she bestowed on her children. This world can absolutely suck.
Yeah, I've read up on revolvers and found that they tend to get gunked up far more easily than a semi-auto. Seeing these videos with malfunctions is a great reminder to be diligent with firearm maintenance. I wouldn't want to find myself with egg on my face when im peril.
I was arguing with a RUclipsr a while back about revolver vs semi auto pistol. He was stuck on revolvers being virtually malfunction proof. I told him to take the cover plate off of a revolver and look at it. It’s like a Swiss watch. When well maintained and cleaned, yes they are great. But if they get dirty or say, fall in dirt or mud, they can quickly become locked up. And when a revolver is jammed, it’s “Take it to a gunsmith” jammed. Unlike something like a Glock where you can do a quick field strip and fix it. Granted, no one is field stripping anything in a fight. I also pointed out to him that in the Miami Dade FBI shootout, almost all the Agents had revolvers. About half of them became permanently locked up as in, cylinder would not rotate due to being shot in the hands while holding their revolvers. Flesh and bone fragments got into the internals and jammed them up. The one guy with a 9mm pistol literally emptied every magazine he had. No failure. Only failure was the poor 9mm bullets available at the time.

the police report states she checked the cylinder and closed it on the fired rounds. No crazy divinge BS here, just a stupid woman that doesnt know guns

Timing is everything.
I have more than a couple thousand rounds through my S&W 442 and have carried it for over 15 years. Never ever had a failure except I used inferior reloads at the range once and a primer came loose in locked up the gun
I had somebody's reloads that caused the cylinders of a 642 Airweight and a Model 15 not to fully close. Obviously, primers were the issue. I also had one reload that didn't go off. Otherwise, all manufactured rounds NEVER failed to fire.

Was the hammer and trigger still able to run with the cylinder not able to turn?
I edc a revolver. When in shoot it with gloves, the glove material on my trigger finger gets stuck under the trigger and prevents the firing mechanism from fully resetting. It’s unnoticeable while firing until the rounds stop firing or you try to remove your finger from the well.
Happens 100% of them time when I wear gloves (so I don’t wear gloves anymore)

That was a crazy bad situation...I have had a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 38 lock up on me, a Ruger LCRx trigger lock up and not function, Taurus model 85 not rotate the cylinder. All of them had very little use from new. My Smith Model 66 spit lead at me at the range and hit me right below my shooting glasses on my cheek. But alas, still love revolvers.
This one is crazy hard to learn from this. Other than the reaction time and quick thinking of the guy. Something divine was at play here.

Actually, according to the news article it was a Ruger...
The only time one of my Taurus handguns have ever failed, it was because of the ammo (reloads).
Anything mechanical can and will fail.
😆
@@mitchkinney7662 I have seen Taurus' come out of the box in gun stores with rust, timing off in revolvers, poor quality rifling, and pitting in the barrel. Their guns are pretty bad most of the time. Sure you can get lucky and find one that runs, but imo they're outliers. Even so, I would love to see the quality of it's parts. They are the most guns sent back to the manufacturer for repair than any other gun I have seen sold. Also the people who are buying them 90% of the time are borderline braindead. If I had a dollar for every time a Taurus buying customer got angry, that they were too stupid to fill out the federal form. I would have enough to buy one of their awful guns.
The people most likely to experience a revolver malfunction are those who treat their revolvers like they will never malfunction.
The need for extensive dental treatment would've been the least I'd have expected as an outcome here...
We should give recognition to the good placement of their camera too. Very fortunate!

Great Report. Thank You. ASP
That Guy is unbelievable !!
Jerry Miculek did an excellent short video about things NOT to do with your revolver because they can mess with the reliability and timing of the revolver, which leads to malfunctions. I highly recommend watching if you own or fire revolvers.
Superman restraint. I don't know if i could be as kind as him.
Mindboggling!
Make a joyful noise unto the Lord!
Thanks
This story is not only horribly sad, but gut wrenchingly disturbing. This non human woman is currently on the wrong side of the grass. The ultimate betrayal she bestowed on her children. This world can absolutely suck.

Unreal video John.
This is crazy all around 😳 good review John !
