    I was a policemen in south Africa from 1986 till 2010, I never used a seatbelt, this is the main reason. I was involved in many many shooting incidents. let me tell you, this policeman has my respect. what A BEAST. salute from a fellow officer.

      I wonder if there's a way to rework the seatbelt for officers so they can take it off much easier than a conventional seatbelt.
      It's still against the law if they drive without a seatbelt on, right? But I think the reasons they have should allow them to.

    This cop is one extra tuff dude,total professional,he stayed focused & unbelievably calm, never freaked out when he knew he had multiple wounds that there will be serious blood loss,took the pain,very brave individual,respect

      na, he was just panicking, which is very understandable. u can see him forget then try and mess up. I just panicked worse playing a game called Arma 3 lol I couldn't get my iron sights up for like 8 seconds and that's just a game

      Yeah his hands didn't work getting the seat belt off cause he was shot but he had no problem raising his arms to shoot the guy. He couldn't get his belt off cause he was in panic mode.

      Maybe it was a combination of being shot, not hitting seatbelt release, seatbelt caught on equipment belt. Could have been anything. Take seatbelt off when you pull in.

    I've done 37 years in the Reserves with tours of Iraq and Afghanistan under my belt. This guy is the epitome of The Right Stuff. Utter awesomeness of the highest order. Sarge, I salute you. Make sure you make the most of your medical leave to spend quality time with your family.

      You know I find weird is you say you have all those yrs in the service but still called this Sergeant a "Sarge". Myself being an 11B with only 4 yrs in one deployment to (qualat Afghanistan OEF in 2006) 1 purple heart and now 70% disabled so I don't have too much background in the service no where close to your "37" yrs but I do know and learned this in my first week in Basic training at Sandhill (Ft Benning, GA) you don't call any NCO "SARGE" it's a bottom feeding fish , which an NCO is not. I thought that was common knowledge for all service members?

      @@uptopswag8446 Its not that deep. Customs and courtesy is definitely personal preference, molded by your experiences and your unit. In the marine corps, its proper to say Aye aye "Rank" But informally in my unit we said "rah "rank" I cant believe you've been in 4 years and haven't figured that out yet. We don't say Sarge in my unit, but I've heard it in other units before.

    Sometimes people amaze me and Sgt. Valle is one of them. I don't know how you take hits like that and scramble to get out of the car, then still push through the trauma to take care of business, then instruct people on how to save your life. This guy is a freaking legend and John is right, he should be a local celebrity that never pays for drinks ever again. What an absolute unit.

    Loss for words. This sargent is an absolute warrior. He took a wall of lead from the suspect, but was able to still exit his vehicle and return fire. Praying for a full and speedy recovery.

    Been a cop for 21 years. Even off duty, the seatbelt comes off when I am around 100 yards from home or when I pull in parking lots.

    Hands down, this Commander is amazing. He was calm, cool, and collected - DESPITE being shot and heavily injured. He gave crystal clear orders to the responding officers and not once, lost his composure.
    I am beyond grateful an angel was by his side and he survived. May you have a swift recovery, with no long term issues.
    Thanks goes out to all great police officers, who risk their lives daily, to keep us safe.

    I am a retired firefighter/paramedic in a large city. I have been retired since 2000. I was first on scene a couple of times during my career for an officer shot and one that had two officers shot, as well as responding to numerous officers shot though not first on scene. I have never seen such focus and determination in the face of you one's own mortality. I want to say that I am glad the sergeant survived this. Don't hesitate to use your vehicle as a weapon or at the least make you a moving target. This was one of the most professional responses I have ever witnessed by all of these officers involved, especially the sergeant. God bless.

    He's right up there with a Brazilian off duty's bravery and tactics. Took multiple shots, stayed in the fight, and still smoked the perp and survived. Commander Valles is now Houston's special pants brigade SWAT captain. Mad respect for this dude

    What an incredible human being, and exemplary model of a public servant. An absolute boss! I have nothing but respect for police officers and the service they provide for our communities, and this man just demonstrated the reason why.     The swagger that perp had going around the officer's car had me fuming. He knew he was about to kill this officer and he was enjoying every second leading up to it. Little did he know that the Sergeant was a member of the Special Pants Brigade, and he was having none of it. Prayers for a speedy recovery.

    For tourniquet training, my local hospital has a program called stop the bleed. It was free. Trains you for large wound treatment. I highly recommend checking your hospital for something similar.

      Yessir. I put together an aid kit for my truck. Then one day I witnessed an accident and went to help and was slapped in the face with the realization that I had no clue how to actually use any of it. Same message as in this video… Practice. You can’t do what you don’t do.

      You can hear them working on him while he is still calling for a tourniquet, He did not need to request that many times, he was in shock so repeating that request is all he could do.

    I agree, almost certainly this man has seen combat. I worked with a highly seasoned San Fran cop who was spec ops from the 1980s to 2000. He had been in a dozen or so gun battles. He was unbelievably calm in the few shooting calls we handled.
