That's not true, he would have the ability to defend someone who is at risk of death or bodily injury. The officer couldn't retreat at the time, so deadly force would be justified in this case.@@LL-ft6ed

Tellement vrai.
It was awful, I watched the beginning again, the officer walked up way to close to him in the beginning, he should have stayed back to see where this was going! Iv watched several videos of this same scene but cops had plenty of distance to blast them!
And he clearly has something clutched in his hands.
I’ve never had a body-cam effect me emotionally and physiologically the way this one has
Me too, oh boy! 😢
Me too
Damn. That fucked me up.
ive seen stuff like this while i was overseas, so i stopped watching after the bodycam came in. i cant do it anymore.....
That’s exactly how I feel.
I’m an ER doctor…this is devastating to watch. When you can HEAR the bleeding from a major proximal artery there’s little that can be done unless you can get to the OR in minutes. Yes, apply pressure, but the sad reality is the officer’s spirit was taken prior to the perp being shot. With bleeding like that, there’s not much blood pressure/flow getting to the brain and loss of consciousness is very, very rapid (a small comforting aspect in this heinous tragedy). God bless the officer’s spirit and his family and thank you of course to the hero citizen. Thank you John and Mike for your continued lessons and the service you provide to all of us carrying citizens and LEO’s.
@@ts757arse awesome and perceptive question…in a healthy young guy the collateral flow from the other side would perfuse the whole brain fairly well (no plaques diminishing flow like an older person). But the amount that his was severed means very effective pressure and near minutes transport to the OR would be his only chance of survival…but ask a surgeon about “hearing bleeding”, even in the OR it would be a very demanding affair; and yes; the chances of some neurological deficit during the resuscitation and operative effort is high despite good collateral perfusion…ie if your blood pressure is shit (during transport/resus/OR) then the brain doesn’t perfuse globally and there would likely be some anoxic injury. Again, great question; my answer is admittedly a great deal of speculation too.
yep, that sound generally means you're f**ked. devastating injuries and *very* tough to watch, esp. having seen similar wounds irl (2/3 with the same outcome, seeing this gives me chills...)
even with EMTs already on scene surviving that kind of arterial bleeding is slim at best. horrible, horrible way to go out, and no doubt the serious ptsd for the surviving hero.
Could you use pressure to try and just completely cut the flow to that side and rely on the other side to keep him alive for the moment?
This is a reach here but hear me out, maybe a doctor might know. Assuming it was only one carotid that was transected, and that's a big assumption I admit, would it have been possible to use hemostatic clamps to stabilize the bleeding had the wound been accessible?
I’m a fam med doc, salute to you for dealing with all the sh!t that rolls through the doors!!
Crazy how it went from “just another call” to “dead” in ~30 seconds.
Also wanted to add, glad the doped up knife wielder didn’t have the brain to go for the cops gun and get in a LEGIT gun fight with the defender. Props to him for eliminating the threat but glad that threat wasn’t the brightest bulb.
and people wonder why cops put their hands on their guns....

Could have possibly given him a couple extra seconds to process and react. This was heartbreaking. RIP to the officer. And to the Ranger…good on you. You deserve recognition for your bravery.

We went over this video for training at work. As an officer who worked in a downtown area and has dealt with HUNDREDS of homeless, I learned one thing, they all have some sort of blade. Our training was why the officers approached nonchalantly with his hands in his vest. If you look, his one arm got stuck in vest when he fell. If he would've kept his distance and not been worried about being "mean" or coming off "rude," He may still be with us. RIP to this brother in blue.

This is why officers are always on edge with any encounter because you don’t know who is crazy and who isnt
There's a difference between calculated caution, and being on edge. Being on edge all the time is what gets officers shooting at acorns bouncing off car roofs. They need to be able to react to potential threats like this while not escalating if at all possible. Being able to flip that switch from "normal conversation" to "Fights On" in an instant is almost a necessity now.

Thank you for all that you do on this RUclips channel to inform your viewers about how dangerous and unpredictable violent offenders can actually be. If the magazine isn't available they more than likely have it on the USCCA website blog. The article is called "Beyond all reason."
I highly recommend the article to those who haven't read it yet. Anytime a person encounters a mentally ill or drugged out person the best advice I can give them is to just keep their distance and stay away. Expect the unexpected and never assume that they aren't armed or won't cause a problem because they very likely could be. Always assume that they do have a weapon.

@@Alfred-Neuman please don’t act like they’ve never shown bad guys in movies getting their throats cut or stabbed in the neck to only survive in the next scene.
No I was imagining it to be like the movies like I stated or were you just so comment happy you couldn’t comprehend that?
I really appreciate what you do on this channel. Breaking down everything that could go wrong. I wish we had more of this when i was a grunt Marine.
I have been watching your videos for years. I lived all my life in Texas but recently moved to las cruces and this happened a few blocks from where I live now. Can’t say your teachings cross my mind often, but I’ll most definitely touch up on some lessons you teach us.
Thanks to the young Ranger who came to help. Because of him this officer did not die alone, he died in the arms of someone who cared about him and wanted him to make it. Because of the Ranger this offender could not run off and kill more innocent people and never will. If he is reading any of these posts, please know that many of us would feel lucky that you were there to help. Please allow others to help you now brother.
Couldn't have said it any better myself. I tried, but just deleted it before submitting a comment. That was a very overwhelming experience all around as a viewer, but it's crucial to disect these moments to help possibly prevent a similar situation. No one is perfect and it's really hard to say what any of us would do. Thankfully the man responsible for this senseless act was immediately dispatched. He was there for a reason far greater than I'm sure he could grasp in the moment.
@@Zack-ly7ck Pure tragedy and heartbreak.
Omg ! He tripped! That 21 ft rule is shown right here. Rest in peace. So hard
My first though was "Why is he walking so close to the end of that wall to his right?"
@@16ft2innot even I do it and I’m a guard on skid row I deal with guys like this constantly always got my hand on my taser and my other on my lethal ready to go
This one was the toughest one to see and I consider myself "desensitived" to these videos. God bless the family of the officer and the bystander who tried to save his life
thanks so much for this ultra- important channel; it means more than youll ever know.
I've watched so many of these. I've heard the warning. I've still watched the videos and made it through just fine. But this video got me. The sounds. The voices of the people helping. It was such a reality check. Love your people. Love yourself. Everyday
Love the Lord Jesus Christ above all else.
Yup, this one is different.
@@EQOAnostalgianot everyone is Christian my brother
@The.Nasty. Not everyone is offended by His name. Some would say all the love of self is one reason our society is crumbling. To say love Jesus first might just be what non-Christians need to hear.
@@satkinson5505 I’m not offended, I’m ex Baptist.
Maybe you should focus on your own life and how you can make it better, before casting judgment on everyone else and prescribing a blanket remedy of religion.
The degeneration of cultures has never been reversed by Christianity, and I don’t expect it ever will. Our problems are much more complex than that.
You clearly have good intentions, I think they’re just misplaced. I have a lot of respect for Christian values, I hope I don’t come off as offensive.
This is one of the most graphic pieces of body cam footage I’ve ever seen on RUclips. I’m surprised there’s not a “graphic content warning” pop up before clicking on it.
probably will be in the next hour
oh it takes a lot for asp to get flagged, they don't care
That's because the commie YT fucks love letting people watch stuff like this happen to cops
Exactly a comment I expect from someone called "laughy flaaffy"
@@christiansanchez9118sir, you have no idea what a flaaffy is, so shush your mouth.
This Man is a true Hero, and should Be deemed as that as such, an AMERICAN HERO. My Deepest condolences to Officer Hernandez and his Family 🙏🏽🇺🇸
Horrible scene. I retired a few years ago after 30 years as a Deputy. I worked uniform, instructor and undercover. I hate to say it but I feel that officers today, especially younger officers, are afraid to act because of all the criticisms police get in the media. Because of a few bad cops, every single person in the profession are constantly being made to look bad in the media. Cops are afraid to protect themselves like they should because of this. It is ashame. I didnt know this officer but it was a needless loss of life and a horrific day for all LEOs. "Blessed be the peacekeepers for they will be the children of God" Yall be safe.
Perhaps the police could police their own better. That would go a long way.
One of the toughest videos I’ve ever watched on your channel. Heartbreaking outcome but that guy that stepped in was a hero. RIP officer.
You can tell that the Ranger was partially in shock. I'm glad their was some instant justice, but terrified it even happened. I also do NOT buy the story about the cause being fentanyl. That man was looking to kill. He wasn't hallucinating, or having some kind of episode. He was just trying to give himself an out later as a means of lawfare. He just didn't count on that ranger being there, and armed.
Agreed. Tough to watch. Rest in peace brother.
Welcome to Las Cruces. I've lived most of my life here. I've worked a patrol beat here. I've been a corrections officer here. This is my town. Well, it used to be. Now it's covered in tent camps with vagrants loitering or begging, most of the businesses (except for pot dispensaries!) have left. My little brother still works patrol here, but I'm trying like hell to get him to do something else, before we are watching his final moments on a youtube channel.
Sounds like a liberal Utopia
Sounds like a democrats wet dream
Same situation down the road here in Tucson. We are being invaded... period. 75% shithole now.
Rip officer!!! What a way to go!!! Your final pleads and screams have broken my heart.
Very sad. The helpers did inspire me though, they were angels and I'm glad that the victim at least had those people with him for his last few seconds even though it was too late to save him.
Thank you for your service officer Hernandez. Incredibly sorry for the loss his family endured. And thank you Isaiah for your service and your bravery.
Amen.
From this we learn the importance of keeping a safe distance ,to give yourself a fighting chance in every situation .
This is out of my state of New Mexico this video made me cry and made me hurt for his family. gots me thinking about joining
It was amazing that the ranger was witness and there to help. Right place at the right time.
😢 RIP officer Hernandez. Thank you for your service Sir.
R.I.P. Officer🙏 Bystander, you’re a hero for your actions. You did everything you could possibly do.
God bless this man and officer!
I had to go take several mins after this video as I'm not going to lie this really hurt me. I'm ballin like a baby. RIP and thank you to the Ranger for doing what most wouldn't 🥺
Bro I about passed out from this one. Take those warnings seriously and Rest in Peace to that brave officer.
The sound of officer gushing out blood was really hard to handle
Perhaps too nice to be a cop. More EMS type perhaps.
I fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. I have killed people and I have had people die on me in a similar way. The killing didn't bother me as much as the dying. I had plenty of EFR training, but nothing prepares you. I felt so Helpless trying to help another. All that training doesnt matter when its the neck. All this ranger can say to this cop is "stay with me" that's all I said too. Its all you got, its all you know to do when everything you have been taught or trained on doesnt cover the scenario you're in. You then live with it forever, and life will bring you back to that moment to relive over the years. I never received care or treatment for these things. It was a warzone, just another day. Luckily here in the states, people immediately notice the signs, and can hopefully direct that man to some mental health care while that flight or fight response can still be re-routed and turned off correctly. Point is, please get him some help, if he's already struggling with it this soon. Reach out Active Self Protection to that ranger. If not, 10 years from now you might be making another video on him.
Jesus is the Answer in my book.
Yeah . lets make it about you... Millions upon millions of people serve in the military. why do people act like they are the rare one that served. And always like to brag about it.. get over yourself.... Yes Desert Storm 91
ya what that dude had to go through and witness is horrible. he def needs to go talk to someone
@@DavidVAmendola this is so sad and more police are the answer , please explain what believing in a god would have done for this officer, how could that have been the answer?
Seems like no one els said it so I’ll say it
I appreciate your service to our country
mental health is at a all time high and it’s completely different then it was 10 - 15 years ago . These dirt bags are growing in numbers by the second. I work Armed Security in South Florida , Broward and Miami Dade county and let me tell you , I don’t work in some fancy places..
Typically our contracts are in some really really rough areas , mental health in these areas have sky rocketed. It’s sad that the government wants to focus on migrants but our own people are falling before our knees
Omg. I thought I had a strong stomach but I actually teared up.
My condolences
I’ve watched so many ASP videos I skipped to the interaction before hearing anything and was NOT ready. Shook me to core
Whoever came up with the idea of this channel is truly a hero in the eyes of millions of people around the world. Thank you Johny and Willever for your teachings
Probably the clearest example of fight or flight I've ever seen. I think his brain overruled all his training and just went into flight mode. RIP to this officer and huge respect to the Vet that stepped in.
Absolutely, he would of had a better chance if he fought him off. In the moment you don’t know what you will do though. Rip officer
The retreating officer was getting stabbed within 3 seconds of the knife being drawn. At least he had the chance to get away unharmed. If he stood his ground he would have been stabbed in 1.5 seconds guaranteed.
@@MC_Hammerpants You're delusional if you think an officer in full gear is able to turn and run faster than someone can run straight at them from that distance. He was doomed the second he tried to turn, it's a non-option in this situation. He might have been stabbed faster if he stood his ground but turning his back put him in a totally defenseless situation that led to a fatal would. You must have never played sports if you think turning and running was an option. If we wanted to run and was thinking straight he'd juke then run past the attacker so the attacker has to turn. But he was clearly running purely on instincts here and unfortunately paid the ultimate price.
@@bobbygetsbanned6049 I don't think standing his ground would've helped either, unless he was more prepared or standing further away, he was likely getting stabbed no matter what because he was caught so off guard like that. If it hadn't been the carotid artery it would've probably been some other fatal injury, that dude was in the throes of lunacy and wasn't about to stop stabbing until he was sure the cop was done for. Even if he'd managed to draw his weapon, the guy closes the distance so quickly he probably wouldn't have got a shot off anyway.
@@bobbygetsbanned6049
You are mistaken.
1. He caught up to the cop because the cop panicked and tripped.
2. The guy was on Fentanyl which increased the officers chance of escape.
3. He would've created enough time to be saved by the good Samaritan
4. You believe all suspects can escape a cop on foot just because a cop has gear on. If that was the case cops wouldnt use the gear. Your strange lapse in critical thinking skills could explain why you think I'm delusional
My Condolences and Prayers for the Family and Friends of this Officer... R.I.P. Officer 🙏🕊️
Tragic indeed. As a retired LEO from 1986-2012, I thankfully never experienced anything remotely close to this terrible situation. This video should be shown on the first day of the Police Academy. Also, it should be shown in defense of officers currently awaiting Trial in California for using Deady force on a subject with an edged weapon.
I’ve never had a video hit me this hard. I’ve seen death first hand, I’ve watched hundreds of ASP and similar videos, and this still made me nauseous.
Speaking to Mike’s point about doing something, it’s absolutely true: you will never be able to live with yourself if you don’t do something. I had someone die on my watch when all I could do was call 911 and wait. That was a scar that took nearly a decade to get rid of. That Ranger is an absolute unit. Wishing him and the officer’s family speedy recovery after this tragedy.
yeah dude this is worse than what ive seen on kaotic and theync, ive tried to give myself trauma through the internet and it was right here all along, nobody absolutely nobody should go through this, if i was the victims family id puke myself to death after watching this. its just harrowingly disgusting and wretched. Fuck
RIP Officer Hernandez!! My deepest condolences to Officer Hernandez's family. I definitely shed a few tears watching this one. To the Army Ranger hero, you are incredibly brave!! I hope you find peace in your heart and your head knowing you did everything you could possibly have done.
Out of all the bodycams I’ve watched I think this one hit me the most. My condolences go out to his family.
Same here. Peace to you. I hope you're okay after seeing this. Rip officer Hernandez.
Yeah this is absolutely horrible. Something told me not to watch it, man. Rest in peace to Mr Hernandez.
On the bright side he didn't suffer for long. The carotid artery is a major artery that supplies blood flow to the brain. He lost consciousness within seconds.
It's extremely difficult to watch
That is hands down one of the most brutal audios from a body cam I’ve ever heard. Legit made me tear up.
Damn, this is so.....😢
Im glad somebody was there for officer Hernandez's last moments. I can't imagine what the hero must be going through. Prayers go out to all involved. Its sad to say but I'd rather be sad than be dead, keep your distance from strangers.
Thank you to this channel for your insight and valuable information.
Rest in paradise brother Hernandez.
Sadly the officer never knew anybody was there for him. He checked out fast. Sad sad situation. RIP
As a guy that's been in law enforcement for close to 15 years, this was very hard to watch. At the end of the day, this was a training issue. No reason to get that close to the suspect, especially by yourself. I've personally been in situations like this where I was by myself and get dispatched to a "low priority" call like this. I would always keep my distance and talk to the suspect from a distance until I could read his/her body language and/or asses the type of person I am dealing with. He rushed in for no reason. The suspects body language even from a distance says a lot. Officer should have picked up on those cues. God bless that hero that stopped the threat and the family of the officer.
one of the most peaceful and casual police approaches i've ever seen turned into one of the most graphic attacks, RIP
Hearing this officer lose his blood through his badge cam is one of the single most traumatizing things I have came across on the internet and am not a stranger to violent footage. I am in undeniable belief with how this went down. Prayers for the family
