Nope. That's just American thinking as pretty much everyone in America is armed. In the majority of the world, robbers are unarmed and if they are armed, they are only armed with something as simple as a knife and thus are no danger to anyone as long as they cannot get below one meter of distance and thus are no thread when standing 3 meters away to someone pointing a gun on them.

Here in SP, it is common for some neighborhoods to have armed security guards on motorcycles, who patrol from 9 pm until 5 am. They are not paid by all residents, but one or two hundred already provide good money. Once I lost my house key and had to climb over the wall, and the neighborhood security guard, with a gun in his hand, made me go down and call my mother. That was about 30 years ago. After a while, this same security guard came out with me after 3 thieves who had robbed me. We found them on an avenue at the moment they took a driver hostage. It was a mobilization that involved us in a car, a vehicle that intercepted us during the chase and in the end there were 30 police vehicles to close in on the bandits. The guy kidnapped in the car was coincidentally a friend from school......I used Google Translate, in case there are errors

I was robbed at gunpoint in Brazil 6 months like this for my MacBook that was in my backpack and my cell phone. I am from the United States and oh boy do I wish I had my gun. I think about it everyday. I am in the process of trying to bring my registered gun with me to Brazil. Brazil is a beautiful place to live and once the citizens are armed this will stop happening much more quickly
I know it's expensive but maybe will be easier to buy the gun in Brazil and go through all the bureaucracy to have a license to carry. It's not easy. Maybe you should consider a gunsmith course to be a licensed gunsmith so you have the legal right to carry

I was robbed at gunpoint in Brazil 6 months like this for my MacBook that was in my backpack and my cell phone. I am from the United States and oh boy do I wish I had my gun. I think about it everyday. I am in the process of trying to bring my registered gun with me to Brazil. Brazil is a beautiful place to live and once the citizens are armed this will stop happening much more quickly
I know it's expensive but maybe will be easier to buy the gun in Brazil and go through all the bureaucracy to have a license to carry. It's not easy. Maybe you should consider a gunsmith course to be a licensed gunsmith so you have the legal right to carry

the "ordinary force" thing when YOU ARE BEING ROBBED and there is a clear DISPARITY OF FORCE (two robbers vs one innocent)... just doesnt make ANY sense. The courts need to recognize the principle of SELF DEFENSE.
That off-duty cop should get a promotion and a fat raise.
