      For walmart I think it would be best to use the new hart tools, walmart has pushed them pretty hard. They're owned by the same conglomerate that owns milwaukee, ridgid, and ryobi. I wouldn't rely on them professionally, but they're actually decent for a DIY level.

When I drained it out after 1500miles it was like black water. The gearbox cuts the oil up apparently, that's why you have gearbox oil and engine oil.

    • @SuperWaterskiboy
      @SuperWaterskiboy 3 года назад +31

      no. the big tests that are important here for marine oil specifically was the anti corrosion/rust and the anti wear at rpm.
      Think about this, boats deal with much more moisture than any car will just due to operational environment. The corrosion resistance is important.
      Additionally, boats don't have multiple transmission gears to reduce engine rpm in use.. and so over their useful life see a lot more high rpm. while at a constant speed the marine oil 'only' performed 3% better, the ** about that is when you look at the regular use cases, the marine oil with less wear will make a much larger difference in the long run.

    Test Idea
    I'm a woodworker and I believe that you probably have many woodworkers subscribing to your channel. Blades for planers and jointers are expensive to replace and they don't last very long. There are several different options all the way up to a helical insert type. Many people have the dewalt dw735 planer. It's considered a bit of an industry standard. Power consumption is also a big concern for using a planer and blades contribute quite a bit to load. One last item would be to see if there is a way to sharpen these blades with a commercially available tool. Lots of guys make home made fixtures and use sandpaper. I haven't seen anything commercial to do that task.

    Marine engines tend to run cooler even at high load as the engine is constantly exchanging heat with the relatively cool river/sea water which will be more effective at removing heat than recirculating the same hot coolant in a loop through an air-cooled radiator.
    ...that might explain the lower flashpoint of the marine oil.

    • @rh1860

      Was just about to say this. An unlimited supply of 40-80 degree water will keep an engine very cool even under full load conditions. It’s also why marinized car/truck engines often make more power in boats than in a car/truck. No heat issues.

      For that reason people shouldn’t pay all that extra money for marine oil, regular oil will do the exact same job if not better, and that’s what I use in my mercruiser every season for the last 7 years without a problem, an engine is an engine no matter where you use it IMO

      Not so sure it runs cooler, it still has a thermostat that controls the temperature. As long as the thermostat and water pump are working, there should never be overheating though. The closed loop of a automotive engine makes for more possibility of overheating though.

    I would like to propose two different items for comparison and testing. 1) Electric 1/4 sheet sanders. I just bought a $13 Walmart brand to get me by until I make sure of what I want; I was straight dewalt until I found this channel.
    2) Although I have seen your oil comparisons, I have recently discovered a straight 30w synthetic oil for small 4 cycle engines and boasts that it can be used year around down to -30, branded Triax. Included in my last order was a booklet/brochure that boasts of very high anti wear and anti corrosive additives that are almost unbelievable. Including HST, gear, and automatic transmission fluids.

      Often their intakes get plugged with vegetation causing high temps and engine shut down. If radiatior is working properly on vehicle motors, their operating engine temps would be the same as marine motors as both have thermostats with similar operating temps.

      If an engine has spots hot enough to cook off a substantial amount of oil between changes its going to sludge up prety fast. Gm 3.6 and ford turbo 4 cyl are bad about cooking the oil off and destroying the engine. If you cange the oil at 3000 miles they last a long time but stretch that out to 5000-7000 like they recomend and they just sludge up before they hit 100000 miles.
