I Made My E55 AMG Shift Super-Fast With An Easy Mod That Works On Any 5-Speed Mercedes Transmission

  • I installed another modified transmission valve body in my 2003 E55 AMG and it's a seriously nice modification. I had installed one a few weeks ago and although it shifted quickly, it was too harsh on the downshift while coasting. This valve body will work with any 722.6, 5-speed transmissions and the larger transmission pan you see in the video is not needed.
    Before you order understand this is still a performance valve body. You will still feel the coasting downshifts but they aren't as hard as the first modified valve body. I recommend this for performance-oriented cars that are raced, or if you want faster shifts. If you have a daily driver E320 for example, I wouldn't do this mod. Just enjoy the cushy luxury shifts.

  • @beast_e55_amg

    So I just did this upgrade, love it. But I actually got a little class from the guy who makes these valve body mods. So long story short it does not make the car shift faster. It shifts sooner…
    you gain higher line pressures, and since this occurs, it also cuts down on the heat that can be created from sloppy stock shifts that can wear down clutches and bands inside the automatic transmission. the longer it takes to shift under power, the more heat is created.
    Now he did say multiple people have said it helped with their track times, but it’s hard to say if this mod alone did because of so many other factors and it will be very extensive to really test the science behind the theory.
    Either way it’s a good supporting mod to have especially with heavily modded cars, will help extend trans life and who knows maybe it does factor in on the track, I’d like to think so but when I got the lesson I understood the purpose he built these for are not to make the car faster which is why he does not advertise it that way.

    • @kingcrumpet
      @kingcrumpet 5 лет назад +4

      It's only the upper level the dipstick measures, so there's no need for any other dipstick. The dipstick doesn't care that there's added oil capacity below the upper level, if that makes sense.

    • @joesteven5396
      @joesteven5396 8 месяцев назад +1

      hello! if you look at the transmission tool dipstick ,the black plastic strip that measures the oil at 35C and 80C ,stops in a notch at the top of the transmission conductor plate .Its hard to explain whitout seeing the plastic conductor plate ,it has a small plastic tube built in ,that the dipstick goes through and stops it from going all the way down to reach the bottom of the transmission oil pan ,so it measures like the other guy said only the top filling on the fluid level .If you dont see any fluid on the dipstick ,you might still have 2 liters of fluid below the end of the dipstick ,if the transmission is cold ,transmission fluid expands with temperature .

    The CLK 63 AMG already used a 7-Speed but didnt rev match at downshift. The newer E63 Coupes did that and it is a huge improvement in driveability.

      If its minor harsh then its normal, cause mines does it like the first 5 mins of driving first gear acts sluggish, and I already did a valve body,filter, clean soilenoids & and change pan oil(not a full flush but most of the fluid) shifts quick for a 5 speed made in 2004. Not as quick as modern 600hp cars but I can't complain.

    Your boy is adorable!
    But I am wondering, do you have any fear of RTV bits coming out inside of the transmission and causing weird problems over time? That's a concern I've heard from some grumpy old mechanics, which ring true to me, another grumpy old [ex]mechanic. I realise that is entirely possible that we're behind the times, and this black RTV is actually good stuff when used properly.
    I'd really love to make my old CLK shift more sportily. My first CLK had some mods and shifted [mostly] spectacularly, although it had a weird hesitation between 2nd and 3rd, which I believe is probably related to transmission fluid getting into that big cable connector as it always does. It's presently kind of a parts car for my newer CLK, so I have not found out yet.

    On a side note, do you have concerns about the failing O-ring for the oil pickup on the M113K? I watched two videos on this and the cure was installing a viton o-ring. After the some driving the car shifts great, and is decently smooth. It still downshifts firm but is much closer to stock and shifts very fast at WOT. Too bad they cant be easily tuned on the older cars.

    been thinking about a valve body for my 09 nag1 in the challenger srt8. i have it tuned with the transmission turned pressures turned all the way up and a throttle booster as well....frankly my transmission shifts great as is. the harder you drive it the better it shifts. the Mercedes blue top solenoids would be something nice. thinking of longevity. my 09 only has 17400 original miles on it as of 3-13-23.

    Hey Alex, as a W211 owner I'm loving your videos but your article on Chicago taxes is pretty short sighted! Try living in the UK! Not only is fuel here super expensive, the feds take a slice of every pie they can! It costs me £260 (US$320) a year just to tax it, and the law changed a couple years ago so that the tax on a vehicle doesn't stay with it. That means I tax the car from the start of the month but the seller only gets a rebate from the end of the month. So every time a car changes hands the feds make a months worth of tax, which for some cars like your AMG, which would cost over £500 (nearly US$700!) a year to tax, is a fair chunk! Then there's insurance, new car taxes which are huge and they still put frigging salt on the roads that ruin our already expensive cars and make the true cost of ownership excessive. That is why many cars end up in the wreckers prematurely...

    I have a 2001 e320 sport and when I floor it I swear it sounds like double clutching a manual gearbox. These aren't dual clutch gearboxes are they? Oh ya. The valve body and shifter mechanism were replaced about 5k miles back.

    Its probably the speed sensor on the conductor plate is worn. New conductor plate should help with the bad downshifts. My E55 sucks shifting down from 3-2 so I always downshift manually before it bucks... doesn't really bother me to be honest

    Southern Hot Rod also makes a kick ass valve body for MB, can do factory or modified. I have an 06 Magnum SRT8 with a NAG1 and opted for the MOD6 with a set of MB blue top solenoids, 3000 stall converter and a MTCM, best $$ I’ve spent on the car to date, a total monster. Shifts are crisp and clean, downshifts a little harsh, but hopefully smoothes out the more I drive it.

    I'm still upset that AMG doesn't offer a manual option. It's almost like their main consumer is rich people who want a racecar, but have no clue how to drive a racecar.

      Noneya their newer nag automatic transmissions shift dramatically faster then any manual transmission. Rich people don't buy Mercedes for racecar reasons, obviously if they did they'd just get a Porsche or something like that

      hello! if you look at the transmission tool dipstick ,the black plastic strip that measures the oil at 35C and 80C ,stops in a notch at the top of the transmission conductor plate .Its hard to explain whitout seeing the plastic conductor plate ,it has a small plastic tube built in ,that the dipstick goes through and stops it from going all the way down to reach the bottom of the transmission oil pan ,so it measures like the other guy said only the top filling on the fluid level .If you dont see any fluid on the dipstick ,you might still have 2 liters of fluid below the end of the dipstick ,if the transmission is cold ,transmission fluid expands with temperature .
