- Welcome back to another Mercedes E55 AMG video. Today we take a look at some basic things to know if you plan on owning one. These cars can definitely cost a bit to maintain, and behave like a money pit, but if you can find the right model and mod it the correct way, it will serve you a long time!

I opted for a cooling and power double whammy with LTH and highly recommend it. The added sound is a nice bonus.

Here’s what you should know, don’t buy an e55 or CLS55 unless the oil pump has been serviced, ‘cause they share the same oil pan and when that little rubber ring on the oil pump goes, the engine goes with it. One bulletproof, hand built motor goes “pop” due to a $10 part.

They are great cars but the only problem is the electronics which were awful. I had a CL55 and E55 and both suffered from electrical malfunctioning. Finally I sold them fed up with. I went back to a W210 AMG and bought a 2015 last year production W204 507 Edition with the performance package. Both have been reliable. I am not a mechanic but so far I haven’t been at the dealership at all.

That engine is super clean wow
Love mine. Always kept in top form at Mercedes mechanics and all recalls covered even being 2nd owner. Brake unit, and new gas tank. A/C completely replaced, and supercharger pully bearing replaced. You can drop some coin on these fixes. But if a couple grand here and there is way worth the fun. Flat out beast of a macine, and seriously never for sale. Thinking of going all electric with a tesla plaid and x to replace a Tahoe and get the supercar. Wanted a GTS AMG but Plaids are insane. E55 stays.

I would never go electric. Teslas are junk with terrible build quality. Plus in a blackout you're going nowhere and the computer can be hacked. Ironically, electric cars are terrible on the environment while the lies of carbon dioxide being a problem continues. It's all about control of the people.

The W211 is so competent, so sensuous, and even in V6 E350 280 bhp guise, it always puts a smile on my face :-) I'd love an E55 but it's becoming so hard to find them in low mileage, factory original state.
I fixed my tab piece with glue on my E500.. works perfect now. Opening and closing is back to normal.

A beauty, a bonnie and a joy forever... Truly among the last semi skookum of the mercs... This, cl and w212 pretty much round up the decent modern merc range, all newer is electric nagging junk...

What are you wheel spec? Size, offset for front and rear, tires size?
I own a 2003 Cl600 which i bought for 9500 and entirely replaced the ABC suspension and now i have a 1/565 twin turbo V12 for 16k after suspension and tunes and am now almost always the fastest and rarest car on the road. ive put 11k miles on it and have only done 2 oil changes(9.5qts) a tcu(1700,It was the 13pin) , and a cooling fan(300) which i have included in the $16k. I love my car, fully loaded luxury 2 door coupe with cooled,heated,massage seats in 2003. people who dont know cars think my car is 2010+. OLD MERCEDES ARE UNDERRATED AND UNDERAPPRETIATED.

How reliable are they
I own an E55 many people say it handles like a dodge this hasn’t been my experience I think it handles pretty well albeit I am on aftermarket arnaut suspension and some nice E63 rims and good tires so this might be the reason I don’t mind the handling. but airbags plus coils should be factored into buying any e55 because the air-matic suspension will more likely than not break and the repairs are expensive if you go the air suspension root.

Everyone is buying it for the "cheap luxury horsepower". That's cool and all but I like the way e55 looks. The new ones are just flat out ugly. New interiors are kinda nice but the exterior looks cheap and common.
I’m 28 and have only owned IS300s, 240sxs, E36 & E46s.. I currently have around 8k saved up and a relatively clean RX300 I can sell for around 4-7k.. I’m going to save around 15-20k to hopefully find a decently semi low mileage example. I’m SUPER scared 😮💨 This will be my first big boy purchase.. HELP

You cannot beat German Superiority
To find one with low milage is practicaly inposible. To find one with out acident record mision inposible. To find one with compleat service record not going to happen. So ordinary you find a car with 250.000 to 350.000 km on meter it had changed 3 to 6 owners. The prices... 15.000 € + for the car that is ower 10 years old at minimum. Well i bet it,s stil more reliaboe then BMW M 5 series E60, E61 .
Is there a way to swap out the headlights for more modern looking ones? Not a fan of them.. I know that you can upgrade the bumper to E63 amg and thats about it.
The SL55 has an after market body kit that allows one to swap the headlights to that of a SL55 amg black series, and those headlights look fantastic.

how much it would cost to operate a car like this in you country guys? for mine it would be 1300 euro traffic fees, and propably around 500 for insurance. also we have a luxury tax which for this amg would be something like 2500 euro. that makes 4200 euro per year only to be legal with this car.
