Nice, real, and fair evaluation for both of the cars . I owned an E 55T and now an E 63T . What I would add: The E63 has a much firmer and saver suspension . May be not that important for the US, but here in Germany, where you legally can go 186 mph on the street ( both cars are able to) the E 63 will prevent you from sweat in the hands. The E 55 will need an experienced driver to handle it savely above 160 mph.
Great video and on point . My old 2007 e63 had 162k and really never had any issues with her .. no deadbolt..nothing aside from cracked radiator, ballpoints and brakes .she was a mean beast
Nice comparison video. I would choose the E63 because I really like the facelift and the technical upgrades over the E55. I know that it suffers from the head bolt issue and I think the fuel injectors as well but the E63 suits me fine with 507 naturally aspirated horse power.

Truth has been spoken thumbs up man! E63 is certainly more refined and rev happy but the E55 is just a classic big old strong brute that pulls like a train and for me personally one of the best german muscle cars.
great video as always, man. i will always choose the e55 as it's much cheaper to modify as far as power mods go. the NA power is insignificant and combined with the engine problems like the head bolts I always hear about is a big minus. i think an e55 with e63 bumpers and lights would be my ultimate w211.

It's all about the heart, in this case the engine. M113K has long been proven to be bulletproof. As opposed to M156 with head bolt issues and cam wear issues. Not to mention the performance upgrades available for the 55k platform. Lastly I'm starting to notice that they're asking more money for a clean E55 than a clean E63 with about the same miles.
E63 takes the take for tourer imo. Engine is quieter and smoother than the 13k and while the instant torque of the 55 is nice the more linear power delivery of 63 makes for smoother drives around town. I always hit the gas a little to hard in my e55 and the sc engages causing lurches in traffic.
E55 always. Mine is a sleeper and second favourite only to my G-wagen. Have driven an E63 and is great, but seriously the E55 has more torque and feels so much better off the line. Sounds better too. I'll never sell mine.

Having the newer model Benz’s is more a symbol of power and wealth. The 2003-2010 line ups are every bit as classy and beautiful speaking on Mercedes in general.
I have own both engines one in a cls another in a ml. The 63 was garbage. Oil consumption was an issue from day one. An engine rebuild due to a blown head gasket was the final staw. 13700 later I dumped it at a significant loss. I had trans a trans issue with the 55 which was taken care of by Mercedes-Benz
Great break down bro. I had the E63 for 4 years, awesome car, but the head bolt issue and the fear of it actually happening started to eat away at my confidence in the car towards the last years of ownership. The headbolt issue really blew up on the forums early this year. The E63 also tends to have an issue with its transmission (conductor plate). When I finish building my current car, I'm probably going to want to hop into an E55
I love both cars. I want a wagon of either one eventually. I can't decide which one to get next tho. I currently have an 05 E500 and coming from an E320, it's fast. It still keeps up with a lot of modern cars. But I want more power, the E55 is more modifable and reliable but I really prefer the looks and interior Of the facelift E63. I know that most of these things can be swapped for the facelifted versions but that's a lot of time, money, patience, and even possible programing. They both give similar numbers on paper but the E55 has more potential. But I hate the transmission, it's just too slow, even mine (7G tronic) is slow to shift and I hate it; ik the E55 has the 5G tronic but it still shifts relatively slow. So many pros and cons
I also currently have no intention of surpassing 500hp. I've driven all sorts of Benz's and BMW's (part of the job) and after all that I've discovered that 500 is the point where the power is still manageable, scary for passengers and still fun enough where you won't kill yourself. 550 is the absolute limit. Anymore than that is just too much.

Decent video, but it doesn't tell the whole story - in ideal conditions, the E55 is quicker, but on a hot day with a bit of spirited driving, the E55's charge cooling system simply isn't up to the task of maintaining its performance potential. Furthermore, I disagree with the notion of the E55 being cheaper to mod. On an E63, there's a 40-45 whp gain to be had with the addition of long tube headers.... Boom - 560-ish hp for all of $2500. Guaranteed to be cheaper than trying to pick up a consistent 40whp gain on an E55... and please note the use of the word consistent, because being quicker than an E63 for only one run before your engine is heatsoaked and pulling boost, isn't much use. To reliably make over 450 whp on an E55, involves way more than a pulley swop and software - you need to split the cooling system and install a new pump, reservoir and heat exchanger, otherwise it just heatsoaks badly enough to lose to even a stock E63 --- and a proper M113k kit with headers, pulley, software and a decent split cooling system, will run you about $5k.
This is definitely legitimate. It’s strange to me that AMG would spend so much money building a hand-built supercharged engine but neglect to design a proper intercooler system that can support its power. Modifications to this are required for any serious performance applications.

Just "better" engine but e63 facelift body removes tens of major nuances from w211.

Headbolts, cam adjusters, lifters, camshafts, the first generation 722.9 7-speed gearbox - all of these are reasons why I avoided the E63 personally.

My favorite Mercedes, especially with coilovers. Just wish they could swap out the 722.6 transmission for the 722.9...
So is every single other Benz in silver, so beautiful. The SL, CL, maybe only the S550 unless it has black accents.
The facelift was more then minor, it makes a huge difference on the appearance. Although I do agree the E55 is a better car.

A buddy of mine owns AMG Mercedes shop in Southern Cal and recently torn the engine out of an E63 with 3 broken head bolts. A $6,000 nightmare...
tbh, I thought it was a lot more....like in the 20's or 30's but yea thats shitty.
Which is why anyone with an M156 should replace them proactively. Heads don’t need to be pulled either, you just gotta replace one bolt at a time.

Conductor plate is a 5 speed Auto issue with all MB vehicles. Its not really that bad and can be fixed wothout removing the transmission.
Just replace the head bolts preventatively to the newer ones. Problem solved

Sound goes to the e63 however the 5.4L has much more potential with mods. Better bang for your buck.
I agree. However the only big plus point for the e63 is the awesome sound. The E55 doesn't sound nearly as aggressive as a 6.2 liter.
