I recently read up on resetting my transmission. I now do it about monthly. The E55 may be similar to my 5 speed in my E500 Sport. The transmission can get sluggish because as I drive around town it has a learning feature that will adapt the tranny to street driving. A few months ago I wondered if it was me or if my tranny was sluggish on onramps onto the freeway. Quick pickup seemed to lack. On RUclips I learned how to reset the transmission. It's a very simple process that takes about 3 minutes while sitting in the comfort of my driver seat. I know your enhancements will get you where you want to be with your E55, but for the rest of us that subscribe to you I thought I'd mention this in case others noticed they don't like how their transmission shifts while getting on the freeway and other fast acceleration. Keep up the great work on your vids, Alex. You da man!
There's a specific procedure for adapting the shift timing when you replace internal parts or the tcu. You need sds or similar. You have to erase EGS adaptation and drive the car a specific way, while maintaining specific load variables in each gear, then let it idle for 10min to save the values to the tcu. This sets timing for slack in clutch packs and solenoid actuation differentials. This is the problem with translated manuals. They also call what was done here "Adaptation". But, that is only for driving style adaptation. Does nothing to adapt to new parts really.
Alex, if you look at the main reason why those cars were made is to cruise at a high speed with a comfortable ride & luxury, I believe "which I may be wrong" they didn't aim to drag or track those AMG cars expecting a performance like a Porsche! so you won't need fast shifting for that main reason, it's just a modern era when Mercedes shifted their game to a sporty loud cars along with people mindset as well, and nobody know their games like Mercedes does, I have a CL55 with M113K & 722.6 and can't complain about the way its made from the factory, it's just deliver when I need it to, keep the good work sir and that T-Shirt is totally LEGIT ;)
Alex, resetting the adaptation data in DAS is TOTALLY DIFFERENT than using the accelerator pedal/key reset procedure. The key and pedal trick only resets the driving habit adaptation, the DAS reset deletes all the adaptation data that compensates for the hydraulic circuit flow, such as piston filling time! You HAVE to run the adaptation procedure in DAS in order to make sure the transmission computer adapts piston fill times to the new valve body.
The only reason I know all that is because I erased the adaptation data on mine too with DAS and then wondered why my my downshifts felt like the car was applying the brakes. Hahaha

Very good numbers for a 16 year old car. I love the way it can pass itself off as nothing more than a very slightly over dressed Hamburg taxi - a real Q car. One gripe - the indicator (turn signal) stalk sits at 8.00 o'clock rather than the normal 10.00 o'clock - which takes some getting used to. Stepdad has a C55 Wagon out in a Tokyo, we always clown it for having SLOW transmissions, he's driven R8s before and it's night and day. Fan from Chicago !
I guess you need to run the adaptation program after the reset. I did this on my 722.9 and it makes a complete difference regarding both upshifting and downshifting. I tried not to run the adaptation and was never able to get the 2-3 upshift smooth until I ran the adaptation. This makes me to believe the TCU doesn't really learn the shifting profile much by itself.
I drive ML55 AMG and the transmission is sooo slow, so yeah, totally agree here. Sometimes it "forgets" to downshift, so I have to let go of the gas and floor it to "remind" the transmission it has to downshift lol.
After a while, you do forget that the valve body has been upgraded. I've got a modified one behind my 1JZ with the A340 transmission. For daily use, it is firmer initially, but then you just sort of accept it. They are a worthwhile upgrade for slow shifting autos 100%. Kickdown and takeoff makes a huge difference
Yeah Alex I have had Mercedes and Chrysler products with the 722.6 .... it shifts slow and I hate the garage shifts (R - D) they always slam into D unlike the 722.9 which is smooth.
Don't forget the 722.6 was in the SLR. As an M112k driver, I only ever drive in the M mode TCU tune that holds gears. This 1996 trans still has life left.
W203 C240 here, I have a 722.6 and it is in fact very slow. I've discovered that quickly letting off the gas and getting right back on during shifts, feels like an (almost) DCT!
Wow, nice valve body, the converter lock up could be worn, and kyb valve could be causing the lack of comfort, performing adaption with star diag, might also improve the shift quality
My friend has a 2006 Charger RT with the 722.6 and it’s a decent transmission. Does shit pretty slow, but in manual mode you can get it to chirp second gear. My early 722.9 isn’t very good either tho, it’s extremely smooth but doesn’t shift much faster than the 22.6. But, the gears are MUCH closer together which helps with acceleration. My family’s 2015 C300 with the 7G+ is probably my favorite trans besides the ZF8. The 7G+ shifts so hard it will chirp going into second and shifts like a dual clutch. I love it. But in eco or comfort it’s smooth af.
Hi Alex have I missed a video where has the diesel Mercedes gone have you sold it because I didn't see it on the driveway when you were last working on the C63
722.6 shifting on my 04 sl55 is one of the main drawbacks. Switched to Mobil 1 HP LV ATF helped some for better shifting, but still much to be desired. Definitely will be keeping my eye on this though. Thanks and keep up the great vids!
Hi Alex. Actually you dont need to buy a new pedal, you can easy fix the old one. I was having the same problem with my E270 CDI. And again - great video !
I have a C55 and an E55. Recently purchased a Challenger RT with a good ol' 722.6 and it shifts much faster than both my AMGs. This makes me think that even a regular Challenger RT os SRT valvebody should be a huge upgrade without a harsh down shift.
pro tip for dropping the 722.6 trans pan. If you have a fluid extractor, suck the oil out of from the top before dropping the pan. you will make a whole lot less mess.
Can’t wait to read through the comments but yes I 100% agree about the granny tranny shifts in my CLS55 IWC Edition. I have the TCU tune but that did nothing to help. I will definitely look into this mod and blue top solenoids. Also VERY interested if you source a rev match.
I've got the Eurocharged TCU. In comfort or sport, it's not much different from stock. In manual mode, it's almost perfect. I've gone sideways on the 1-2 upshift a few times, which is hard to do with 295 ps4s tires.
After watching a few of these videos and links, I am very happy to continue with my CL600 project which is to be a mix of me repairing and the dealer on somethings, thanks for the channel and information.
After you have driven the car for a while and the transmission adapts the down shifts (while going slow ex. coming to a stop) will smooth out a great deal to a more stock like shift with that valve body.
I had a e55 and it was such a great car i just couldn’t stand the sluggish gearbox. I always drove it manual mode and since it didn’t shift as fast as a dct or i should say Mercedes mct, i would let off the throttle, up shift and hit the throttle again as if it was a manual transmission car and based off the sound, some people would pull me over and asked if i had swap my transmission to a manual and i would say “nope it’s just how i drive it. As far as downshifting, since it’s pretty slow, when i downshift, i wait about a second or so and then hit the throttle to rev match and my downshifts were crisp.
Nice video, try the brown tops on that, they have little smaller holes and would soften the down shift some. Would be fun to hear your comment of the difference.
I have an e 55 and i think you should have in mind in 03 it was quick obviously now it isnt but it is a 15 year old transmision. Btw thank you for showing that mod i think very few people know about it.
Alex ! What is the REAL procedure to reset the 722.6, 5-SP AUTO-TRANS ? I have listened to so many variations on the internet, I don't know which way is up !!! THANKS.
A manual swap CAN be done to this engine...Tavarish is doing a SL55 AMG manual trans swap with this engine...involves modifying the bell housing of BMW M5 manual trans...some guy in Eastern Europe is the person who put this together for a benz drift car. Would be cool Alex...hook up with Tavarish...get the first manual swap E55 done. Maybe not on your prestine E55 but maybe on another project E55 you may be willing to buy...cheers...love the channel
I had jeep with same 722.6 and I only changed kyb-solenoid, connector plate and then new custom software to remove turbine slipping and it was way faster and more agressive with sifts. Car had 3.0 crd engine with 320hp/700nm
This is impressive, but this gearbox is notoriously reliable and the reason is because it takes so long to change gear there’s a direct correlation between that and longevity so as long as you understand that everyone’s happy happy

Wow that’s impressive, glad your one of those that thinks outside the box.
*MANUAL TRANS SWAP*
"Mine are totally mint".... he has a dirty ass carpet 😂😂😂
Love ur videos man. You really know ur stuff. Regards from AMG fan from Norway
The price went up for the upgraded valvebody. Not $589 anymore, its close to $700.
Pretty cool Alex. Nice job thinking outside the box on the upgrade. Great video as always!
Hi Alex have I missed a video where has the diesel Mercedes gone have you sold it because I didn't see it on the driveway when you were last working on the C63
2007 CL65 AMG ... this mod is exactly what I have been looking for. Will definitely be installing before ECU and TCU dyno tune. Thank you so much!
Link?
I'm almost done doing an RS4 swap on my allroad. I'd love to come up to Chicago and see how the E55 squares up against an Audi Wagon.
Whats ur social media would like to see the progress
I have a C55 and the trans is by far the quest party of the car... Good to see there are options.
I have a C55 and an E55. Recently purchased a Challenger RT with a good ol' 722.6 and it shifts much faster than both my AMGs. This makes me think that even a regular Challenger RT os SRT valvebody should be a huge upgrade without a harsh down shift.
I wonder if they will interchange?
The shifts after valve body looks like the way my stock 2013 srt8 shifts in track mode. Glad it made a good improvement !
If the 722.9 could handle the torque from the M113k, that would be an awesome swap! You’d probably have to beef it up
pro tip for dropping the 722.6 trans pan.
Very cool you have an iwc. You have the blue tops already btw
LegitStreetCars thanks man = )
LegitStreetCars picked up and installed this tuned valve body and wow! HUGE difference.
After you have driven the car for a while and the transmission adapts the down shifts (while going slow ex. coming to a stop) will smooth out a great deal to a more stock like shift with that valve body.
i feel like he the realest youtuber , i been wanting to buy an E55 from you badly im in need of it
I had a e55 and it was such a great car i just couldn’t stand the sluggish gearbox.
I have an E500 2004 with the 722.6 transmission and it also takes a long time to shift when you accelerate quickly.
Every time I watch an LSC video, I find myself one step closer to taking on a mid 2000-2010 euro project car. Thank you?
Nice video, try the brown tops on that, they have little smaller holes and would soften the down shift some. Would be fun to hear your comment of the difference.
I may swap those from the CDI. I'll keep you posted
I have an e 55 and i think you should have in mind in 03 it was quick obviously now it isnt but it is a 15 year old transmision.
Btw thank you for showing that mod i think very few people know about it.
It's still quick
What made this vlog extra special for me was the dirty microfiber rag and the kiddy car seats in the back👍🏻!
Alex ! What is the REAL procedure to reset the 722.6, 5-SP AUTO-TRANS ? I have listened to so many variations on the internet, I don't know which way is up !!! THANKS.
Nothing brings more pleasure than seeing transmission fluid as bright as Kool-aid. The shifts sound spot on. Which drag strip do you go to?
Great video I am a E class man and your E55 is really sweet. Love your videos 😍
My E500 has the 722.9 transmission but is also really slow at shifting - is this just a tuning issue or does it differ from the one in the c63
When will you get your C63 new front bumper and then paint corrected and ceramic coated?
LSC is literally the Mark Rober of cars
A manual swap CAN be done to this engine...Tavarish is doing a SL55 AMG manual trans swap with this engine...involves modifying the bell housing of BMW M5 manual trans...some guy in Eastern Europe is the person who put this together for a benz drift car. Would be cool Alex...hook up with Tavarish...get the first manual swap E55 done. Maybe not on your prestine E55 but maybe on another project E55 you may be willing to buy...cheers...love the channel
I do agree the transmission is extremely SLOW!! CLS55
FCP for the win. Can't beat the service and reasonable international shipping rates.
I got the SHR valvebody a while back for S55. My 2nd favorite mod on the car.
The downshifts in manual mode in mine give you whiplash.
After seeing you restore the C63 to its old glory I immediately subscribed and turned notifications on! Really like your content!
Thanks brother!
Awesome video. Man you make me want an E-55 more and more. You’ve made that car better in every way.
I want you to document your reaction on your first drive on a dual clutch and if it's a PDK, even better
I agree the factory 722.6 shifts slow it shifts slower than a factory 48re in a dodge truck
Bro come on, you can make 2 sandwiches between every 48re shift 😂.
Martini is a wino my point is that the 48re is more responsive is more responsive than the e class that I had
Wow! I might just do that same mod for my transmission..... I do love my car as is... Great video. Update on the c55!
Test it out in the 320 cdi !!
awsome review should extend life of trans too if you beat on in. the gains in this trans properly set up would be more than what a pulley could do
