I was looking for a 2006 E55 but changed my mind and bought a 2006 S55. I love it and I am gathering parts. It will soon be putting down 700-750 horsepower.
I have a downpiped and tuned CLA45, SLK55 with headers and tune... and not an AMG but an SL600... and then theres the Corvettes....87 Callaway, 99 FRC, and 91 ZR-1.... Ive thought about supercharging the SLK55, great car and best of all no ABC... the the Daily is a tuned 2011 E550 w/C63 brakes and a Tune
So sorry for the delay on the video. I think we have like 60 hours of combined labor into the job with filming and another 15ish for Max to edit it with the flu and then we had RUclips issues. Hope you guys love it!
Hey Alex, you should check out this guy who makes excellent RUclips content for AMGs and other cool cars. His channel is called LegitStreetCars, don’t forget to like and subscribe, I’m sure he’ll appreciate it!
Hey Alex! It was a pleasure meeting you and working on your project with you! We are very happy that the end results on the finish were 100% what you envisioned! Car is a screamer! We'd love to see it in person at our next open house event!! Again, if you ever need anything in the future reach on out!!!
Why not both? Nobody says you only need one Mercedes! W126 was the last of the old school assembly methods, engineered with some more focus around durability and serviceability rather than cost, for the S class at least. The following W140 was a engineering masterpiece for other reasons, but it was the start of unit assembly and system integration, less proven technology mixed with cost concerns introduced by the newfound competition from Japan. Don't get me wrong, I still have a good time in the w222s etc, but there's a reason I've always felt special in a w126 and similarly excellent w124. A w116 SD is what brought me from American V8s to Mercedes, I then upgraded to a 83 in 2002. I sold that particular 83 2 different times vowing to never return to w126, the third time it came back I decided I better just build my dream tribute version of the thing and just hang onto it forever. 538k is about time for that break in oil change, may as well just keep it forever at this point! 😀
@@DieselBOCO My problem is that e55s now adays have just gotten so expensive. So ive just said well might as well keep my 126 and see how far i can go with it. So far its been bagged and has a 5speed manual from another Mercedes the a squeezed in there. Honestly as much as i love that old 5 cylinder turbodiesel i might give in and throw a 606 in it. Make around 5-600hp and make it the ultimate sleeper that no one would expect
The beginning reminded me of when the alternator bracket broke on my w211. I was disappointed in how Mercedes designed the bracket as one piece with the timing cover. Luckily a nut, bolt, large washer and locking washer saved me.
Wow. Thanks for the trans controller info. I have an 03 E55, and was going to go through what you’d done on yours earlier, but the plug and play method with the controllers sounds awesome. Can’t wait for the next video on them. I totally have wagon envy- I had a 2000 540iT for 14 years, and regret letting that car go.
Hey Alex Congrats on the install . Vtech tunning and tj merry tcu are top notch . Day and night difference. Don’t forget we want performance numbers on the new setup. Either draggy or 1/4 mile runs 👍
My E55 was totaled out two years in a weather incident where water wouldn’t drain the cowl area during a downpour and flooded the ‘ME’/ECU along with a dozen other electrical components- catastrophic electrical failure. So sad. Check those grommets that drain for occlusions. Watching this makes me itch for a good one for sale down the road. They have gone up in value though my goodness
If you cut a line along your bolt it will help to cut a thread. Done it in the past with threads that are slightly mared. Or you can cut a line in the tip of the bolt and that'll help aswell.
I did my conductor plate and connector with a trans service a while back and was debating getting the valve body from VRP and decided to try the TCU out first. I went for the MK Ultra Stage 1 TCU and I absolutely love it! I like the Agility mode and it always feels like it wants to GO! all the time and was going to get me in trouble with the local constabulary. After a week I switched it to Sport mode but noticed it’s so much more responsive just running it in Comfort on the up shift and downshift and it seems to always be in the right gear and makes it feel much more like a modern performance sedan! It also makes the paddle shifters more usable and responsive under heavy throttle. If you’re thinking about getting one, just do it, you won’t regret it! 😄👍
Have been loving the content so much that I think an e55 sedan might be my next car. The price / horsepower ratio seems pretty favorable compared to other cars these days
Agree with the early replacement of water pump and alternator at 156K. In the aircraft maintenance world we called that 'on-condition' maintenance .. relating likely high failure items when the system was dismantled for other maintenance. As for the tow bills ... I have towing insurance from USAA .. life-saver . I plan on keeping my 2017 S550 for a good while ... I'm 74 ... it could outlast me as it's only got 50K on the clock.
These custom TCU’s is news for me, ive used the OF-control unit wich is known here in EU for us mercedes tuners. It is this incredibly handy and fun to play around with on the 722.6.
Just a little tip - when you use a bolt as a tap cut a flute in it with an angle grinder first, it cuts the thread better and leaves a space for the swarf. Great work though, as usual.
Awesome job Alex, really cool collaboration too! I’m not a Mercedes guy nor even an import guy (Chevy truck all the way!) but I really enjoy these videos and can see why people enjoy these cars.
I have a E550 2008? It's pretty Pepi. But nothing like the CLS 55 2006! That supercharger jump was so awesome 👌. Nice Whipple And very nice Powder coating! I can't even imagine! Now Transmission module's? Great Video as always! Thanks Alex! The Man who designed the Twin cooling system for the E55!😉
Wouldn't you need to change the injector rail for a full-loop one if you're going for such a power setup, stock motors have been known to hydrolock cylinder 8. Or do the bigger injectors take car of that problem by better distributing the fuel?
Alex we should, lets set it up and I’ll send the E63 Back. Or you could come to the beach and we could go to the local drag strip. I really appreciate you putting my car in your video. Your channel is the reason I had Modern Masters do the work!
21:50 I thnik secondry air injection dont affect emissions on warm engine only during warm up stage. Removed can couse fail emissions self diagnostics test.
That car runs great! The TCU module shown at 41:14 in the video is identical to the one in my 2014 Chrysler 300C, was curious to know if it would interface with my vehicle's PCM. The Chrysler's TCU even says "Made in Germany" on it! My 722.6(NAG1)is already stepped-on a bit with shift reprogram respring & respool to freshen it up, & new conductor plate & trans service after valve body work. Identical trans to the one in your blown wagon! Great video, thanks man!
I have the SLR TCU. It's actually the second one I got from Troy. I have been meaning to post a review. It has pros and cons and I view it as a work in progress. I may also want to step up to the blue top solenoids just to get the most from the tune.
Every time I buy a new car I basically do the same.. while you're in there u might as well. If I see they cheaped out on brakes and rotors, that is a good sign that they cheaped out on everything else. Water pump, alternator, plugs, oils, belts, filters, it sounds like a lot of work but like you said the tow truck cost a lot more.
Whats the reason behind pressing the RTB sealant with fingers before installing it? Im not a mechanic so im asking. Would it not be better to run a bead and then allow it to spread from pushing it onto whatever part of the engine it goes onto?
I have had two AMG cars. 06 E55 13 C63 Coupe P-31 Pro tip, never wipe Right Stuff off like that. You just make a big mess. Let it sit for a day or so and you can pull the excess right off nice and clean and it will look like a pro did it.
I explain to my customers, there are somethings that are worth changing while you are there. Especially if it has to come out in order to work on something else. It is worth the extra money to get it done.

I don’t know about the US, but in my part of the world, you can, with a yearly fee, have your car towed in case of break down or accident, for under $50…
Love the wagon, I think if you could only own (1) Extra vehicle it should be any wagon. I agree on the OEM parts I replaced a working original in tank fuel pump with a cheap knock off just to have it fail 50 miles from home, it was in a pick up and road side repair was not an option it cost $350 just for the tow.
Guys just a noob question. My dad has a 2.0 turbo diesel Chevrolet Cruze which was showing Code 84 (general powertrain failure code) when driven hard along with black smoke and reduced mileage. On giving it to the service center they said that the wastegate actuator 2 had failed and it was replaced and the car was better off boost (low rpm) but the high rpm performance was still lacking. The service advisor had said that the low rpm judder metallic sound was due to the alternator slipping by a belt and that it's too costly and doesn't require replacement as such and that the belt isn't sold separately by GM and is the whole unit. Recently I got the same code 84 back when driving hard to check the car whether it's normal now since we want to get it tuned. Any suggestions guys???
When you need to fill some oil into a tiny hole, if you don't have a funnel small enough just roll up a piece of paper and make an ad-hoc funnel out of it.
I really liked this vid and watched some sections one more time. I like your license plate LSC WAGN, especially because that way it could also be German „Wagen“, which you can use for any kind of car. I am really looking forward to the next vids on the trans modules and also on the dyno sessions with the WAGN. I only have the RaceIQ SW on my TCM. It makes the shifts better, but not great. I saw that you have a modified steering wheel but with the standard buttons and no paddles. Can you share more info on this? Also it is time to get an LSD now. I had a Wavetrac installed last season!
I’m just curious why you didn’t use anti-seize on the alternator bolts. I can only imagine some C-tech telling his service manager that he can do an alternator on a Merc. Then having to explain how the bolt was seized in the timing cover and it’s not my fault!

Alex, would you ever want to mod a stock M113 like on the 500 models of the early 2000’s?
Not really. Id just get an M113k car to begin with
Hey Alex Congrats on the install . Vtech tunning and tj merry tcu are top notch . Day and night difference. Don’t forget we want performance numbers on the new setup. Either draggy or 1/4 mile runs 👍

My bypass valve needed replacement once. Huge pain of a job- they do fail. Great part to replace while you’re in there with everything unsealed.
Seriously great time! Thanks for having us!
I can see why you love this car, it literally has it all! 🔥
Hey Alex I also Have the SLR TCU tune for my E55 and it’s a joy to drive now instant punch and power when needed!
I love right up the road from Modern Masters, those guys are dope!!!
They did an incredible job on my E63, Modern Masters put all of those mods on for me.
I missed this car! AMG for the win! Happy LegitStreetCars Saturday!

That white one has absolutely dreamy interior. Wow! These are such cool cars and sleepers.
Yay, my favorite generation of Mercedes!
Alex, would you consider taking a NA M113 and doing performance mods to it?
Not much you can do to those except of exhaust really. Cool engine tho.
Now my Saturday is complete!
The fuel dampner looks very like the vag and lr fuel pressure regulator? You can get uprated and even adjustable ones.
Hi, we will love to have a video regarding the different between the SLR and DTM TCU . Also your choice of a all around daily driver. Thanks
I get a kick each time I hear you say “while I’m in there.” W.I.I.T Syndrome is a real thing!! ✌🏼😎 I’m just happy to bring awareness to the condition.
In the clip of racing the caprice there was like no traffic by O’hare airport, that’s crazy it’s always backed up!

Do not use copper for stress parts. Will collapse over time and torque on bolt will weaken.
Beautiful work buddy!!!
The supercharger whine was cool for the first week or so then I got so tired of hearing that whine all the time. My whipple was on a 2010 Mustang GT
secondary air is to heat up the converters, in cold ambient temps!!! some states That wont pass the visual!!!

any recommendations for a first project car that you can have fun with but not super expensive?
Nice video. Nice job on the install. The powder coating looks nice.
Will the burn outs fry the abs pump like hoovie did?

finally my Saturday can start!😁
Here we go!
I like it, I really like it!!! Another good one Alex! 👍

You should tight those alternator bolts more, inner pushing didn't what is in water pump didn't go againts alternator. Just saying.
You should have tried Albano's Pizza in Michigan City when you were there.

Nice video Alex, but what going on with your Ford F-150 Lightning. A update video would really be appreciated.
