The spirit of the Sabbath keeping is stated eloquently ad succinctly in Isaiah 58:
*_"If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, [from] doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking [thine own] words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD;_*_ and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken [it]."_ (Isa 58:13-14, KJV)
Thanks to these brothers who brought some very excellent points about the Sabbath once again.

And Moses said, Let no man leave of it [manna] till the morning.
Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them *left of it until the morning* [they baked it not] and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them.
And *they gathered it* every morning, every man according to his eating: and when the sun waxed hot, it melted.
And it came to pass, that *on the sixth day* [preperation day] they *gathered twice as much* bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.
And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is *the rest of the holy sabbath* unto the LORD *bake that which ye will bake to day* and seethe that ye will seethe; and *that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning*
And they *laid it up* [did not bake] till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein.
    {Exodus 16:19-24}

Im from canada and it gets realy cold in the winter. We are to call the sabbath a delight and if im freezing because i cant start the woodstove then its not very delightful. God is reasonable, i dont cook on the sabbath but i do try to keep the home warm . Kent is being rediculous saying no one keeps the sabbath. Also God says not to forsake the gathering together on the sabbath. If i dont drive to church it would take me the whole day to walk to church and by the time i got there it would be over and i wouldnt get home until the next day.

Let's not forget that they were in their learning stage.... They had just received the Sabbath as a law for first time... It was not a law in their heart. They were disorderly and God was training them and proofing them at the same time.Thats why they were to gather certain rates everyday and nothing on Sabbath
    Exodus 16:4
“Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no. ”
“27 And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none. 28 And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws? ”

God’s intention is that the Sabbath should be a day of renewal. In a passage filled with poetic beauty, “the gospel prophet” [Isaiah 58:13,14] paints a picture of the blessings that await all who honor God. *And of course, there are exceptions for emergencies* when disaster strikes, you respond in whatever way seems appropriate: You rescue from a burning building; - *whatever is needed in the moment of crisis.* But *when under regular circumstances we cannot deliberately single out the Sabbath as the time to paint a widow’s house or mow her grass - things that could well wait till Sunday or any other appropriate weekday.
*We see a critical interpretation of the “do no work” stipulation in Exodus 16.* - *From Exodus 16 we get a hint, however, as to the kind of work envisioned here.* The people were to collect only so much manna each day, with any surplus going bad overnight. *On Friday, however, they were to gather enough for two days, with no spoilage. Explaining the phenomenon, Moses says:* “This is what the Lord commanded: “Tomorrow is to be a day of rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord. So, bake what you want to bake and boil what you want to boil. Save whatever is left and keep it until morning” [Exodus 16:23]. Whether out of stubbornness or curiosity, some people went out Sabbath in search of the product, “but they found none”- v.27. *Thus, God made a clear distinction between Sabbath and the rest of the week.* Exactly what they fixed and how they ate it, we do not know. *But according to Exodus 35:3, they were not to “light a fire in any of [their] dwellings on the Sabbath day.”*
*Does this mean that we today should eat cold food on Sabbath?*
*One way to understand the passage [Exodus 35:3] about not making fire, I believe, is to see it in context.* - *When you try to imagine what it would have looked like in the Israelite camp with the smoke of more than 500,000 fires covering the grounds,* - *then you get the sense that was not the atmosphere God wanted for this sacred time.*
In many places today, on the other hand, the process of producing heat to warm our food is as easy as brushing our teeth and taking a shower. So, consuming cold food is bad for digestion. Our stomach has a temperature of 37 degrees Celsius - about 98 degrees Fahrenheit [(37°C × 9/5) + 32 = 98.6°F]. When you ingest food or drinks that are much colder, your body experiences a shock and has to spend more energy to process and absorb what you just ate.
And while I think that we, *like the ancient Israelites, should still prepare the bulk of our food ahead of Sabbath, I can see no good reason to eat it cold.* - *The effort to warm it is no more than what’s needed to bring it to the table.* - *Making food palatable is the kind of work anticipated in Exodus 12:16.*

The summation of this video states that "what God is asking for is necessary things" regarding the keeping of the Sabbath.
This sounds like a fairly reasonable answer, but there is much more at stake here given the *full context* of the passage, for we also must consider the actual verse that precedes this "kindling of a fire" prohibition, namely the death penalty for working on the Sabbath.
Exo 35:2 _Six days work shall be done, but on the seventh day you shall have a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it shall be put to death_ .
Exo 35:3 _You shall kindle no fire in all your dwelling places on the Sabbath day_ .
Do we still kill people for breaking the Sabbath? Obviously we do not. But if you lived under the old covenant in the state of Israel during the time this passage was written, you certainly would have been put to death for kindling a fire on the Sabbath. This is why the apostle Paul said that the Ten Commandments were *"a ministry of death and condemnation"* for it contained capital punishment for breaking it (see 2 Cor 3:7-13).
If nowadays we can bend the kindling a fire prohibition of the 4th commandment to suit our needs for fire (given the climate we live in and the internal combustion engine), could it actually be the case that 4th commandment Sabbath command is no longer in place in general? Indeed, this appears to be the case, since *the penalties themselves for breaking the Sabbath are no longer in place* . All real commandments or laws always have punishments associated with them if they are disobeyed. *If there are no penalties, such commands lack any force* .
This is significant for even the practicing Jews themselves today no longer obey this command to administer the death penalty for profaning the Sabbath. Whether they know it or not, the New Covenant wiped out a number of their old covenant practices to large degree (for example no more temple sacrifices for 2000 years, etc.). In fact it would actually be immoral to kill anyone ANYWHERE nowadays for breaking the Sabbath.
    So what has changed?
Answer: We are under a New Covenant that is different from the old.
Heb 8:13 *_In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete_* .

Here is what your prophet says.
The Lord is no less particular now in regard to his Sabbath than when he gave the foregoing special directions to the children of Israel. He required them to bake that which they would bake, and seethe (that is, boil,) that which they would seethe on the sixth day, preparatory to the rest of the Sabbath. Those who neglect to prepare for the Sabbath on the sixth day, and who cook food upon the Sabbath, violate the fourth commandment, and are transgressors of God's law. All who are really anxious to observe the Sabbath according to the commandment, will not cook any food upon the Sabbath. They will, in the fear of that God who gave his law from Sinai, deny themselves, and eat food prepared upon the sixth day, even if it is not as palatable. God forbade the children of Israel baking and boiling upon the Sabbath. That prohibition should be regarded by every Sabbath-keeper, as a solemn injunction from Jehovah to them. The Lord would guard his people from indulging in gluttony upon the Sabbath, which he has set apart for sacred meditation and worship.

Kent's behavior reminds me of the self-righteous Pharisees who falsely accused Christ of breaking the Sabbath *because He violated the added man-made rules and traditions they placed upon the Sabbath [Mark 2:24].*
The Pharisaic tradition, during Jesus' day, had developed into an array of petty rules having to do with the minutiae of the law. *It focused on physical works that had little to do with the spirit and intent of the law - and which, in fact, often violated the law* [Matthew 15:1-9; Mark 7:1-13; John 7:19; Galatians 6:13].
*The scribes among the Pharisees created and transmitted the Pharisaic rabbinical traditions.* - *The body of traditional law that they formulated, called the Halakah [preserved in the Mishnah], is extra-biblical.* The word halakha refers to the corpus of rabbinic legal texts, or to the overall system of religious law. *Although authoritative for Jews who follow Pharisaic tradition, much of the Halakah is not directly supported by Scripture, but is intended as a "hedge" about the law, to prevent any possibility of its being broken.*
*The Pharisees placed the authority of their traditions above that of Scripture itself, thus going against the word of God.* Scripture scholar Joachim Jeremias affirms that for the Pharisees, the oral tradition was "above the Torah," and that the esoteric writings containing scribal teachings were regarded as inspired and surpassing the canonical books "in value and sanctity" - (Jerusalem in the Time of Jesus, pp. 236, 238-239). Alfred Edersheim also points out that traditional law was of "even greater obligation than Scripture itself" - (The Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah, Book I, 1.98).

The command for the Passover out of Egypt was not the same for the torah command given later by Moses. They did kill a man who was picking up sticks (to make a fire) on the shabbat.
    Also Galatians makes it clear,
"I testify again to every man who accepts (sabbath) circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law." gal 5:3
And what command in the Torah tells you what laws are temporary and which ones are not? Circumcision, according to Genesis is an everlasting Covenant.
“As for you, you shall keep my covenant, you and your offspring after you throughout their generations. 10 This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your offspring after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. 11 You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you. 12 He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised. Every male throughout your generations, whether born in your house or bought with your money from any foreigner who is not of your offspring, 13 both he who is born in your house and he who is bought with your money, shall surely be circumcised. So shall my covenant be in your flesh an everlasting covenant. Genesis 17
13 “You are to speak to the people of Israel and say, ‘Above all you shall keep my Sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I, the Lord, sanctify you. 14 You shall keep the Sabbath, because it is holy for you. Everyone who profanes it shall be put to death. Whoever does any work on it, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. 15 Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day shall be put to death. 16 Therefore the people of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, observing the Sabbath throughout their generations, as a covenant forever Exodus 31
By SDA logic, you better get snipped.
