I loved the people in Durban, and the food! (I lived there from 2019-2022) However, after living through the horror of the riots, floods, the badly run municipality (we would often have electricity without days because sub stations kept blowing up) crumbling infrastructure, and Ecoli ridden sea, we decided to move back to the Western Cape. I miss our friends terribly.. but I left Durban feeling traumatized.I hope the problems get fixed. It is a beautiful province with so much potential.

The stench of sewage hanging in the air can't be hidden. Going onto the beach and into the water represents a huge health risk, no matter what the authorities try to tell you.
Really great video! Culturally, Durban is unique for its Zulu, Indian and English influences. Travel outside of KZN and you very quickly realise how different the rest of SA is in that regard. Way less Zulus, Indians and English white South Africans in such high concentrations. I once saw an ad describing Durban as 'Africa's Miami'.
I was born in Durban, grew up in the Durban been through all the ups an downs in Durban which Ed shaped me into the person I am. It’s a beautiful place.
I was a Durban bred and born person. I'm now 74 and lived there for 64 years. I Swam in all the beaches, including the paddling pool as a small boy, that were there in the sixties and onwards. Addington, South and North. You could leave your clothes, towel etc. on the sand, go for a swim and come back and they'd still be there. We used to catch trains from Malvern, Queensburgh to Durban Central station and walk to the beaches. When we were young men we'd hitch hike at night to the Fun Fair that was on the beachfront and have a ball. It was so safe. Now you don't dare walk along the whole promenade at night. You'll get mugged and robbed or worse for women. Even the Fun Fair is now either closing or is already closed due to not enough tourists. We all know why they stay away. Sadly its gone downhill and I'll never go back there again.
Love my City but I am not a tropical person. I don't like the humidity but just Love our winter months. Lived in Durban my whole life, so much greenery. There are areas to avoid but that's the same all over the world. Since Covid and Floods our city needs cleaning up.
The last time we visited Durban was right before the floods, as we left it started raining, a week later containers were floating on the highway. We’ll be back but as Joburgers looking to go to the beach, we’ll wait for them to sort out the beaches first.
Nice tour of Durban, South Africa the land of the Zulu. I like the aquarium, and I like the beach butt sculpture. I like Verik snake and ostrich wallets. Last I like the sea.
Haai Thato’s commentary @ 6:50 shocks me!! I was born in the Western Cape and moved to Gauteng first Pretoria- the tribalism of the none Nguni speakers was just like the grains of salt… then I moved to Jozi - happiness all the way there… I normally frequent Durban and I never seem to get enough of it. I love everything about the city❤!
I'm also shocked such behaviour you'll get it anywhere you go from individuals, I love every tribe, born and bread in Durban Thato needs to do his research not what people says on Socials
Durban has the potential to be the best city in Africa. But sadly it's been pillaged and plundered by a corrupt municipality for too many years. The cbd is disgusting and dangerous. (Which is why most big business has moved to Umhlanga) , and the crime is horrific. Pretty much every middle class area is surrounded by shacks and shanty towns, so there is a lot of break ins and worse. I have lived in Durban for 35 years, but I would gladly leave if I could. The grime and filth is just too much. I worry for my kids safety as I have been a victim of crime many times. Home invasion, muggings, been shot at twice, been hijacked, plenty of petty theft etc.
I was born and raised in KZN and it is oozing with potential but it’s political parties that have dominated there for the last three decades have allowed it to decay due to incompetence. It isn’t safe at night but daytime probably best time to get around. There are places to go for cheap where you could have a lot of fun but be careful for your belongings and your car.
Fundamental difference is ANC rules in kzn whereas DA runs Cape Town... one political party steals all the funds needed to fix anything, corruption and poor service delivery is a standard within KZN. Cape Town is simply just run better by a better party who does far more for its people and its very clearly noticeable.
@@nonhlanhlambatha6420 The cape flats as well. The DA is only looking out for people like them forgetting who makes up majority of their votes. The PA will give them a run in the next elections Im telling you. The DA is slowly losing relevancybecause people see their BS

I honestly thought the Durban Tourism Board would react after the unfortunate AKA incident and those devastating floods with such PR to try and reassure tourists... dunno if they reached out to you Steven because something needs to give. Security is a serious issue and it's sad that leaders just get bodyguards and leave ordinary people on their own. I'm talking from experience...and to be honest I have nothing against the place because it's lovely.
If that is the mentality, it would be very unfortunate. It's not a good look on the city when something tragic like that happens and to keep quiet means you're indifferent, which can ruin the image of Durban forever
South Africa is a country of immense beauty, captivating all who are fortunate enough to call it home. With its diverse landscapes, from majestic mountains to pristine coastlines, it offers a natural splendor that is hard to match. The vibrant cultures and rich history further enhance its appeal, creating a tapestry of experiences that leave a lasting impression. Interestingly, there are critics who voice their opinions about South Africa but choose to stay within its borders, especially among the Caucasian population. This paradox raises questions about whether they truly appreciate the country's beauty or overlook it in their everyday lives. Despite the critics, South Africa's allure remains undeniable. Its natural wonders, cultural diversity, and historical significance make it a truly enchanting place to live. From its awe-inspiring landscapes to its vibrant communities, the country offers an extraordinary blend of experiences. While it is puzzling that some critics never leave, their voices serve as a reminder to pause and reflect on the beauty that surrounds them. South Africa continues to beckon those with an adventurous spirit and an appreciation for the extraordinary, ready to embrace its wonders and create a life in this remarkable nation.
It's not just the whites who whinge incessantly about SA, but that is beside the point. Most of the whingeing concerns corruption and crime, not natural beauty, and most national parks are only solvent because of the year-round tourism that white people bring to them. Go to any Sanpark, KZN or Cape Nature reserve to see for yourself. You'll see seas of white people, a smattering of coloureds and Indians, and a small number of black people. Some fear that the lack of appreciation of these reserves among the majority will actually lead to their destruction, something that *cannot* happen because South Africa remains one of most biodiverse places on earth and its wildlife must be protected at all costs.
I located to Melbourne from Johannesburg 20 years ago. Every year I go to SA and I definitely go to Durban. My Aussie husband loves the culture food and vibes. The first time we went there my sister told him not to give any money to beggars, instead to buy things from street vendors. He couldn’t resist giving money to two kids. Within seconds he was surrounded by a cloud of children demanding money. He, and I, thought they would carry him away. 😅 we still go but he is more wary and mindful of safety, especially where he thinks he can walk. Having said that, he absolutely loves the Zulu culture and loves the surrounding countryside.

@StevenNdukwu Thanks for this video, I’m from Durban and left 13 years ago. Yes, the city has its problems but social media can certainly make you believe that Durban has completely collapsed, I must say I also fell for the negative reports (though imagine some are true) but like you I should give Durban a chance. Looking forward to exploring my city as a “tourist”. We need to inject some much needed spend to rejuvenate the city.
As u do Durban, note these estates which have been around for a while: 1. Mt Edgecombe 2. Hawaan Forest 3. Izinga 4. Simbithi (these are just part of those in the North Coast and u will realise how unique each Durban estates seeks to be from the other). 5. The Executive in La Lucia. 6. Well, of course you can add Zimbali - a great estate which already boasted a R150million house in 2020. Nothing those two great hotels there. Note that Durban is BEST HORSE RACING COUNTRY in Africa and thus has areas for horse ranches nobody says anything about: Alverstone, Summerveld and various areas with large mansions. Also note that Western suburbs of Durban are also unique and theme around COUNTRY and EQUESTRIAN. Also note Durban's Germanic influence and the red roof unique beautiful old suburbs of Morningside and Glenwood within the City. There is an old ancient hatred why KwaZulu-Natal is shot down in all things and even our talents and skills and education is destroyed. It's a SA story and includes evils of apartheid bc KZN whites did not want apartheid, whilst Zulus, though we do have volatile tribes, but were made to be the evil spoilers of South Africa, the great tribalism and hate by Limpopo folk against Zulus - this emanates from ancient envy of Zulu fame and success, etc.

One thing I've realised about South Af3ica is how cheap accommodation is over there.. very nice luxurious locations infact .. wow.. only 650use for that.. ? Lived there since 1985. Moved to the UK in 2023 because the ANC has stolen the future of SA and is determined to turn it into another Zimbabwe. South Africa has a unique beauty in each of the provinces. To write off Durban means you disregard a multiracial and multi cultural population, visiting the beach even in summer, great surfing with fewer sharks, great curry and a resourceful largest Indian population, many spiritual centres, home to Gift of Givers, Drakensberg , few hrs to Midlands and St Lucia etc etc...most of other SA prefer to travel overseas than Durban mostly due to ignorance and pride Problems are there but so are the positives. Shame you didn't get to meet any Indian people or have curry....come back next time for that!!!
As a born-and-bred Durbanite I totally agree. I've lived in CPT for longer than I lived in Durban but will always miss the wonderful friendly people, the amazing food and wonderful places like the Drakensberg and the Midlands.
Well said. Cant beat having a top bunny and a beer while sitting with your mates watching whatever sport is on TV, wearing slops and a vest in mid winter!!!!
Born and brought up for the best part of my life in Durban and surrounds. All this changed when 1994 was passed. We never begrudged the African people to swim in the sea; they even had their own beach beyond the Defence Force HQ building right up to the Umgeni River mouth. Nobody objected the Blacks or any other people from swimming or playing anywhere along the stretch from Addington to South Beach either. Sure we had crowds but not Masses like today. So many cannot swim and this is the major issue as they leave the beaches filthy.
Durban is my favorite city in SA. Lived there for 2years. I also lived in Jborg, CPT and Pretoria. But Durban left a mark on me.
If you are a Capetonian and have seen all the local sites, Durban is definitely your favourite domestic tourist destination.

You have laid it out perfectly.
Durban is like INDIAN CITY I was there during the world cup majority of the population are Indians & Pakistans Black African are the minority
I’m moving from Atlanta to Cape Town in 2 years .. can’t wait to enjoy this daily
2 years have already passed, have you moved to Cape Town? how are you ? I think that within this year I will make a trip to South Africa to Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg to see if I can base myself in South Africa or Malaysia or Dubai.
South Africa is beautiful 😍❤️
I sold my house in the US and I'm buying my house in Durban , my wife and I love it here, we came in 2023 and this year we're buying our home and I'm retiring here with my wife , it's so beautiful!
We are learning Zulu are brothers and sisters are very welcoming, like us back in the USA, they just want to be treated with dignity and respect. Once we come back and our house is furnished then I will show videos of our journey @
Durban is not abandoned by no means. South Africa is awesome!!
Durban is a nice, laidback city. Waiting for the Real Estate videos. I know they're gonna be great. Keep up the good work.
I stayed in Durban for 4 years, such a beautiful city with the best weather, cant even compare it to joburg, Zulus are good people dont listen to ehat media says
I'd like to applaud you for the quality of your content it is supreme
I like the video, and the city has a layback vibe. There are a lot of economic activities going on there, and the people don't hustle like in New York or Chicago. The cost of living is reasonable. Thank you, Stev, for such exposure.
Just know Durban production level or capacity is bigger than alot of African countries that I won't mention here for the sake unity for African
Im from Durban... It just not the same😭... It feels like a shadow city of it former Glory... Maintenance 💔💔💔, Durban CBD need that Jik cleaning agent coz Wow..

The stench of sewage hanging in the air can't be hidden. Going onto the beach and into the water represents a huge health risk, no matter what the authorities try to tell you.
Her is guy who know how real life work.
This is nolonger relevant, the Durban Beach front has been restored after the flood to its glory.
Thank you for this informative video!
Well said.
I was born in Durban, grew up in the Durban been through all the ups an downs in Durban which Ed shaped me into the person I am. It’s a beautiful place.
Steve your doing well with this exclusive video, thanks for showing us durban in South Africa.. I enjoyed this video from the beginning to the end
Enjoying your South African series. Can’t wait to visit. Only had a layover there (Joburg) to Namibia.
Sometimes is best we visit than take opinion from comments or review. I will put Durban in my list this year. Thanks bro for the review...
Durban remains one of the favorite destinations for many South Africans and their families and it's definitely not an abandoned City.
Beautiful depiction of our country ❤ 🔥 🔥 🔥 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼
Love my City but I am not a tropical person. I don't like the humidity but just Love our winter months. Lived in Durban my whole life, so much greenery. There are areas to avoid but that's the same all over the world. Since Covid and Floods our city needs cleaning up.
Thanks for showing the world our beautiful city⛱ Come back soon and make another video in Durban✌
I'm watching and enjoying the Durban episode I can't wait for the top 10 luxurious places in Durban KZN.
Durban is a whole vibe from where I'm sitting
I love Durban, its a pity how the inner city is deteriorating and beaches being polluted.
Thanks for taking us around Africa, this place is just too beautiful
You the Man!! You visited my city. Durban is a very Kool city. I like watching your video, here in Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
Yo, Steven. I Liiiiiike this video... Can't wait to see what Durban has to offer for real estate. We are looking to buy.
The city is amazing, the politics of this city is rotten.
💯
Love how you keep elevating the quality of your content, great work as always
I tell people they sleeping on Durbans potential.
Great videography as always Steven😉👍
It has potential but the construction Maria's n the corrupt incompetant municipality are chasing investors away
I‘ve visited Joburg & Durban.
I liked Durban a lot, I stayed in Morningside. I am European and found it was a very amazing time there 🎉
Haai Thato’s commentary @ 6:50 shocks me!! I was born in the Western Cape and moved to Gauteng first Pretoria- the tribalism of the none Nguni speakers was just like the grains of salt… then I moved to Jozi - happiness all the way there… I normally frequent Durban and I never seem to get enough of it. This is why black media is very important. they want to show Africa in a bad light. One Africa has so much to offer.
So pointing our facts will visual footage of how Durban is dilapidating is white/western media?
30+ years in Dirt Bin, and I wish I can leave too.
I Love Durban ❤️ SA as well. LUCKY enough to spent 2 years there.
Liked very much the way art guy explains about the awareness through their sand arts
Lol
I think Durban is not appreciated enough. the climate here is amazing and I believe it has a potential of being one of the best cities in the world.
Fundamental difference is ANC rules in kzn whereas DA runs Cape Town... one political party steals all the funds needed to fix anything, corruption and poor service delivery is a standard within KZN. Cape Town is simply just run better by a better party who does far more for its people and its very clearly noticeable.
What about Khayelitsha and Langa?
@@nonhlanhlambatha6420 The cape flats as well. The DA is only looking out for people like them forgetting who makes up majority of their votes. The PA will give them a run in the next elections Im telling you. The DA is slowly losing relevancybecause people see their BS
@@nompilobhengu-sf7ph white people take care of their own. Why can’t black people of ANC take care of Durban?? It has been 30 years and you blacks are still blaming apartheid.
That is so true Buyani
They get paid whether they do anything or not
If that is the mentality, it would be very unfortunate. It's not a good look on the city when something tragic like that happens and to keep quiet means you're indifferent, which can ruin the image of Durban forever
Rest in peace AKA
@@itumelengthokwane5096 it's still hard to believe...
Good job ChatGPT
Bro Durban is so so layback and chilled .
*I wanna be the next travel vlogger, I wanna travel around Africa and share the beauty of my lovely continent just like how my fav vlogger Steven is doing, you inspire me* Love
Wow, Durban looks so cool. So beautiful. If i move to Africa, it would be kenya or south africa for sure.
As u do Durban, note these estates which have been around for a while:
1. Mt Edgecombe
2. Hawaan Forest
3. Izinga
1 out of every 2 whites nationwide voted against apartheid in the 1960 referendum, not just Durban.
You can represent us very well, would love to travel with you to pick your brains about the city of ours.

One thing I've realised about South Af3ica is how cheap accommodation is over there.. very nice luxurious locations infact .. wow.. only 650use for that.. ? That's a single hotel room price and maybe even some lodges and guest houses price for that in Botswana.
But overall I'd rather go to Cape town than Durban

We really appreciate the way you display S.A for the world your work is truly visible and amazing, your videos are perfect we're welcoming you in S.A keep up the great work 🙏🏽❤
Lived there since 1985. Moved to the UK in 2023 because the ANC has stolen the future of SA and is determined to turn it into another Zimbabwe. Ironically it's a great place to holiday because it's now so cheap to do so because of these exact same economically destructive policies.
The riots in July 2022 were the deciding factor for us.

The “Blacks”… say no more Mulhatton
