I'm an Eminem fan,"Lose yourself" is arguably one of the greatest songs he has ever written,for another artist to have the audacity,bare faced cheek to take this song and change its rythm, cadence,and emotional impact is disrespectful!,and then to make matters worse, Kasey Chambers then proceeded to do it better than Eminem could ever have dreamt of!!!!

It's amazing how this song, IMHO the greatest rap song written can be broken down and recreated and come back even better than originally created. Kasey is one of our Aussie music Gods here in Aus. She tore the emotional heart out of the lyrics and presented them raw, painfully and with venom and anger. I can not stop listening to this. Eminem's song was my anthem, and I'm sorry Sir, but there is a new lady in town.
To watch the various critics give their views, and see the reactions on their faces particularly when she goes for the Banjo pic is sublime. To all come back with similar responses - Kasey has taken ownership of the lyrics and the song.
I hope that Enimen is proud of what he created, his songwriting is divine and inspirational, and this has taken on a whole new life that surpasses what has come before IMHO.

No, you weren't the only one to get goosebumps from Kasey's performance, in fact, there were those brought to tears by the emotion portrayed; even men have shed tears listening to this.
Kasey and the band didn't just take it to another level, they took it to genius level.

This rearrangement is the result of Covid Lockdown, Kasey is music royalty in Australia. She's the youngest person to be inducted into the ARIA hall of fame. And yes, Em has seen it and liked it so much, he gave Kasey permission to upload it on her Spotify

Brilliant performance. For me, I'd also give a special mention to her father, Bill, who's playing the steel lap slide. He sure made that thing cry! Apparently, he also spent time during Covid lockdown working on this with Kasey.
I got strong Janis Joplin vibes. And yes, chills and even a teary eye for the anger and emotion she displayed. Brilliant. Just brilliant. A love letter to Eminems music and lyrics.

You may not have noticed, but this was performed live in a theater and the large, normally vocal crowd was almost silent for it all. They were that enraptured. The video was made using fan-submitted footage mixed in with the live recording (Kasey asked her fans to submit them). Her Dad was on the slide guitar.
If you want to see some more of her work, I'd recommend 'Aint no little girl'. As with most Australian artists, live recordings will usually be better.
Hey man, I'm a 55 year old Aussie woman and I'm still heading down some rabbit holes lmao...... mostly with the more modern music though..... some of it is SICK though :D Will always love my Barnsey, Farnsey, Cold Chisel, Midnight Oil, Angels, Radiators etc. (You can tell I was born in 68, teenager in the 80's lol) but honestly some modern music is freaking brilliant as well.....

I've been listening to kasey chambers for over 20yrs, this is her best work she has done. But her earlier material is very good too, don't get me wrong. Good to see all the reactions from overseas to get their opinions. I've probably seen around 40 reactions so far. Im hooked on this one though

Em gave her his permission to release on Spotify, that says it all 👏👏👏 She is aged 46 at the time of this performance. I’ve always been a fan of Kasey, she is a freakin amazing & talented musician, artist & woman. But this was next level genius & so personal for her. The performance wasn’t filmed, she put a post out after the show to fans present to please send in any footage, the compilation of which you see. The band killed it, matching & building with her energy brilliantly. Her brother Nash on guitar & the vocals that nurtured the momentum & their dad on slide guitar making it sing like a phoenix - all of them together made this the best live, for me a rebirth, not a cover, I’ve ever heard, seen & felt to my core.

Thanks for doing this one! This gives me chills every single time I hear it. Kasey going from that resigned, laid back approach early in the song to the fighting emotion later is beyond powerful! 💪🏼 Kasey is very under appreciated and needs to be recognised more on an international scale! Kasey is a master of storytelling, conveying lyrics and emotion! She is an icon in the Australian music industry, mostly for country and folk, but has her own style and is never afraid to delve into something outside the box. She is just getting better as she gets older. I really hope that Eminem has seen this and appreciates that his song and lyrics were re-imagined in such a spectacular way. I guess he has, as he did give her permission to upload to Spotify etc. Would really like to hear what he thought about it though. Where else would you see head-banging with a banjo, steel guitar and rock band together? Kasey started her solo commercial career around the same time as Eminem and she was a big fan of his music. From what I understand, Kasey spent lockdown playing around with some of her favourite songs and this version of Lose Yourself is the result. Brilliant! Kasey has spent her whole solo career bucking the constraints of the record companies and always gone her way. She made it to the top in Aussie music anyway with many awards, becoming the youngest ever ARIA Hall of Fame recipient. BTW….how was that for breath and vocal control? Not to mention the awesome arrangement. ❤ Also, that was Kasey’s Dad, Bill, on the steel guitar and her brother Nash on lead guitar and backing vocal. Full kudos to Eminem for his songwriting. Personally, the reason Kasey’s version affects me so much is all down to the fact that she did lose herself in the music, the moment during this performance. Kasey kept the cadence but slowed it down, even in the full rock part. She is a true blue Aussie who will leave her soul bared on stage every single time. ❤ The video was a montage from the audiences phone vids… deliberately done to make it a more intimate experience.

Its amazing to hear the lyrics from a song being interpreted so differently. Eminem was from a place of frustration and Kasey seems to be coming from a place of anger. Its a testiment to how great the writing is and Kasey as an artist to do her thing with it

An extraordinary performance. Gets totally inside that song. All of that was implicit in the original, but Kasey Chambers exposes it. (And reveals just what Marshall Mathers can do with English.) Reminds me of Patti Smith's cover of Nirvana. It's a very personal song for Kasey Chambers. She might look like a sweet-voiced Country & Western girl, but do not underestimate her.
