The hold my beer moment where she reaches up the neck of the banjo and if you pick it up you sense something is about to happen and suddenly she is channeling Janis Joplin and it's gone from Bluegrassy to a Country/Hard Rock hybrid and your mind kind of melts is always epic. It all feels organic but you know every pause, every change in cadence, every nuance that she's bringing to a line has been carefully thought out for maximum impact - it's a work of art in every sense of the word.
I can’t tell you how excited I was to see this dropped when I woke up this morning!! After the show Kasey got on her socials and asked members of the audience to send her bits they had recorded, they then pieced it all together and that’s why the video is the quality it is. I think this performance is it’s own self fulfilling prophecy , the drop needed to happen but it wouldn’t have been as effective if it didn’t have that quiet slow intro. It’s a masterpiece and Kasey put 800% into that performance. It also really showcases Eminem’s lyrics. The world needs to see this, thanks so much for reacting to it. God I love live performances!!!!
Kasey Chambers’ normal mode is pure country, which is not generally my thing. But after stumbling on this performance, I would put it up there among the best covers or reinterpretations of a song ever, along with Johnny Cash’s version of Hurt. (Maybe I do have a soft spot for country.) She killed this.
Yes, absolutely! Yet to see any reaction whatsoever from Eminem. Obviously he liked Kasey’s version as he gave permission for her to upload to Spotify etc. Would still like to see his actual reaction to it.
You were questioning the camera quality. Apparently they put a call out to the fans who were there to send in any footage they took with their phones and then they stitched them all together - so while the audio is sound desk, the visuals are literally crowd sourced, hence the varying quality. Oh, and that’s her Dad on the lap steel. Another Australian country music great.
I don't often speak out loud at the internet but after watching your intro I literally said aloud, "This guys good". Lol. You got me. Thanks for reacting to "our Casey". Subbed with notifications set. Cheers. Australia.
Every part of this performance is a work of art. From the lyrics (thank you Eminem) to the amazing musicians, to Kasey's sometimes haunting and sometimes brutally frank delivery. Even the raw phone footage adds to the drama. Recorded in the stunning heritage listed Civic Theatre in my home town of Newcastle. A fitting place for such a drama filled piece. Thank you for sharing with world, G'day from Australia.
Trust that its aussies who had balls and yeah to totally flip 2 lets say of the most known songs of the world in this by queen kasey and john farnham doing help by beatles aussies are so good respect big time
Supposedly…..(as you mentioned the ‘strange/blurry’ camera angles), she ask the fans to record this and send to her page so she could make the video from ‘their’ perspective.
Genius , I saw the title on RUclips and just clicked on it. Wow I never heard anything like this . Her voice amazing but the whole arrangement was outstanding. She deserves an award for this , it would make a great cover for a movie , just fantastic, a musical perfection . Thank you ❤️👍🏼🥰❤️
she put out a message asking for phone footage from the concert from fans and they put this video together from those, she put out a song, "Not pretty enough" which could partner with this song because of the same sentiment ie.. not being accepted as a singer and to keep trying type scenario
I subbed to her. This is the version of Lose Yourself i didn't know i needed but so grateful I stumbled on it. Thanks for introducing us to music we need in our life not that stale same old same old. Love and light ✨️ 😊
Down the front of the stage, the cat in the hat, playing lap steel is her dad. Her record company put out to her fans to supply any phone footage of this piece , so hence the clip.
A few years ago I saw a bit of amateur video of Kasey and her dad, Bill, playing dueling lap steels, heavily distorted blues in a very similar style to this. They were just messing around in the studio, having fun, bonding and tearing the goddamn paint off the walls. I'm not a big steel guitar fan, but that was unbelievable! I so so so wish I could find it again 😩
I see the journey of the song like the journey of her career. When she started out she was always overlooked, called a country singer and not really taken seriously because she wasn't a "pop" singer. And that was the delicate nervous first half, Then her career had a big dip in the middle as did her real life relationships and the second half is adult Kasey that knows the music industry and isn't tentatively asking "Am I not pretty enough?" (her first "hit" song) but is angry and pissed and coming to take what is hers.
Congrats on finding Kasey. She's been a country singer in Australia since she was in her parent's band (Dead Ringer Band) in the early nineties. She went solo in the late 90's. I love how she sings with her heart on her sleeve. If you want to listen to some more of her, as with most Aussie singers and bands, live is usually better.
Dead Ringer Band was around well before the 90’s. Kasey was on stage from a very young age and took lead when she was around 10. Her solo career took off around the early 90’s, about the same time as Eminem.
First time to your channel. Love your reaction - undoubtedly the most perceptive and insightful attention to detail I have seen. Amazing - you have a new subscriber 😊
When you start hitting the Aussie artists it leads you to the best male vocalist in the world, one of the best blues rock bands, and a deep rabbit hole.... and you can react to it honestly cos you haven't heard any of it.
Loved your reaction, best ive seen so far. Enjoyed your comments and insights. Kasey is definitely feeling it. I've known Kasey's stuff for 20 years and this surprised me. Love it!
Great reaction. Ingredients: 1 x COVID extended lockdown 1 x Australia's best female country singer 1 x Lyrics of one of the greatest songs ever = Musical genius.
Thanks for doing this one! Kasey is very under appreciated and needs to be recognised more on an international scale! Kasey is a master of storytelling, conveying lyrics and emotion! She is an icon in the Australian music industry, mostly for country and folk, but has her own style and is never afraid to delve into something outside the box. She is just getting better as she gets older. I really hope that Eminem has seen this and appreciates that his song and lyrics were re-imagined in such a spectacular way. Where else would you see banjo, pedal steel guitar and rock band together? Kasey started her solo commercial career around the same time as Eminem and she was a big fan of his music. Kasey spent lockdown playing around with some of her favourite songs and this version of Lose Yourself is the result. Brilliant! Kasey has spent her whole solo career bucking the constraints of the record companies and always gone her way. She made it to the top in Aussie music anyway with many awards, becoming the youngest ever ARIA Hall of Fame recipient. BTW….how was Lose Yourself for breath and vocal control? Not to mention the awesome arrangement. ❤ Also, that was Kasey’s Dad, Bill, on the steel guitar.
This is one of those rare moments in life when you know you’ve just witnessed something very special. Great reaction and much love from Australia, good Sir! New subscriber based on this alone. Beth Roars has done a great reaction to this too… just sayin’ yours and her reactions are the best on RUclips.
I have never listened to Eminem and Kasey's incredible cover introduced me to Eminem's songwriting abilities. Kasey puts so much emotion to this song. Amazing beautiful voice!
Thanks for the reaction, kasey made this her own, while respecting M I love her song "Ain't no little girl" different than this, but emotional, worth a listen 💖
Sounds like you need a Xanax! Very clever opening, l Ike it. I became a sub when you started your Ren reactions. I’m ashamed to admit this but I think this might be the first non- Ren reaction I’ve watched from you. Entertaining and enjoyable as always.
That’s why I like to listen to your reactions beyond Ren’n’Friends. Opening new doors to hidden treasures. AMK now Kasey, enriching us all! keep on going Walter! ❤
Long time fan of Kasey Chambers. I hadn't ever listened to this one... but love her songs Rattlin' Bones (with Shane Nicholson) and Wheelbarrow. This is the best thing I've seen of hers. Also, definitely check her out playing Runaway Train live, from 15 years ago. (maybe just for yourself!) Her vocals are super twangy. That's her dad, Bill Chambers, on guitar in that one and it's *fantastic*.
I looks like the video was spliced together from several fan recordings. Maybe not meant to be an official studio music video. Which makes it even better, more real, no second takes.
Great reaction mate and great pickup on “the mood all changed”. Over many years I have formulated the opinion that Kasey is a person capable of the full range of feelings and emotions. The mood and sentiment and motivation behind this song would’ve been easily within Kasey’s wheelhouse. I’m led to believe that she is a huge admirer of Eminem and seeing this performance, suggests that maybe this a direct and sincere dedication to him that she has thought about for some time. And if that is remotely the case, then I think that she couldn’t have done a better job. Probably the best live performance I’ve seen, if only on you tube.
Always love reactors reactions to the change between soft solo and full rocky angst! 😂❤ Just wish I could have been in the audience…it would have been so mind blowing!
Kasey don't muck around, she comes from a musical family and tried to break into the mainstream but couldn't which had her write the song "am I not pretty enough" which you should totally check out.
Since a friend sent a link to her cover a few weeks ago, I've listened to it dozens of times and watched at least a dozen reaction videos. This has to be the best cover of anything ever, and right up there as one of the best live performances I've ever seen. Watching this, it feels like you were me hearing this for the first time and exalting. Subscribing and diving into some of your other videos. Feel like you loved this the way I loved this. What do you even go back to for comparison? Maybe Heart? I feel like music hasn't been this soul-filling for a very long time. I can't imagine what it would have been like to be there live.
I have to tell you, I get annoyed at some many pauses in a reaction. One piece of trivia for you. Kasey's father is on the slide/steel guitar. Just my thoughts about some reactions.
55 million reactions to this song on youtube and yours is the first that ties the 'mood change' lyric to the actual mood of the performance.
Yep I really enjoyed his reaction. First time for me on his channel!
Yes sweet how it marries so well lyrically. Glad he noticed too.
🎯
I can’t tell you how excited I was to see this dropped when I woke up this morning!! Here , here - well said. Spread the word.
I agree...spread the word
We now have two definitive versions of this song 🔥🔥🔥
This was not the way I thought it was going to go 😂😂😂😂 no truer words spoken
Kasey Chambers’ normal mode is pure country, which is not generally my thing. But after stumbling on this performance, I would put it up there among the best covers or reinterpretations of a song ever, along with Johnny Cash’s version of Hurt. (Maybe I do have a soft spot for country.) She killed this.
Yes!! I put it right up there with Billie Eilish’ cover of The End Of The World. Phenomenal
I think to appreciate her you need to focus on the lyrics of her songs, if you do that you’ll get past the country part. 😁
It would be very interesting what Eminem thinks about Kasey's version
Yes, absolutely! Yet to see any reaction whatsoever from Eminem. Obviously he liked Kasey’s version as he gave permission for her to upload to Spotify etc. Would still like to see his actual reaction to it.
The gentleman playing the steel guitar is Kasey’s father
Yay Roo - You've found my home girl Kasey. She's an Aussie icon 🇦🇺 A true independent artist. She's an outback girl - as grounded as they come 😘❤
I Agree
You were questioning the camera quality. Apparently they put a call out to the fans who were there to send in any footage they took with their phones and then they stitched them all together - so while the audio is sound desk, the visuals are literally crowd sourced, hence the varying quality.
Oh, and that’s her Dad on the lap steel. Another Australian country music great.
I read this was her Covid project. She had dreamt of covering this song for years. 😂❤❤
I don't often speak out loud at the internet but after watching your intro I literally said aloud, "This guys good". Lol.
You got me.
Thanks for reacting to "our Casey".
Subbed with notifications set.
Cheers.
Australia.
Best cover ever. Bloody brilliant
This was filmed by various people in audience. Kasey people send her the footage. This is the result.
Hi from Australia, she was born in a small town in my state. I love this cover.
Lap Steel is her Dad...good catch on the banjo pick!
Thank you, you make me so happy!
I love how you feel this!!

And Not Pretty Enough came out in 2001, Lose Yourself in 2002. These guys are contemporaries, just in different music genres.
She is an Eminem fan - you can tell by the arrangement and performance
I subbed to her. This is the version of Lose Yourself i didn't know i needed but so grateful I stumbled on it. Thanks for introducing us to music we need in our life not that stale same old same old.
Love and light ✨️ 😊
Aussie music is always raw, unfiltered and amazing. Look up John Farnham or Jimmy Barnes.
Down the front of the stage, the cat in the hat, playing lap steel is her dad. Her record company put out to her fans to supply any phone footage of this piece , so hence the clip.

Exclennt review - great commentary, great voice - nice job!
I'm about a 100% sure that I had more fun watching you watch this than I did the 1st time ,and I loved this❤
I see the journey of the song like the journey of her career. When she started out she was always overlooked, called a country singer and not really taken seriously because she wasn't a "pop" singer. Glad you got carried away! It drives me nuts to see reactors sit there stone faced & at the end say…that was different 🙄😆 with something this emotive!
I've watched her sing this quite a few times now and each time I watch I'm still in awe BUT I'm amazed at how into it the keyboard player is.
I personally think he secretly wants to be in an 80’s hair band!
@@colleenborchard_burns1724L🤣L
So glad you found this she's absolutely wonderful been around for a long time❤
Congrats on finding Kasey. She's been a country singer in Australia since she was in her parent's band (Dead Ringer Band) in the early nineties. She went solo in the late 90's. She just leaves it all out there for every performance - just a bloody gem.

Agreed
Me too! ❤
The look on your face! So worth it!
When you start hitting the Aussie artists it leads you to the best male vocalist in the world, one of the best blues rock bands, and a deep rabbit hole.... and you can react to it honestly cos you haven't heard any of it.
and for those people who do not know who he is talking about they would be the voice John Farnham and the band Cold Chisel
Kenoath👍
Jimmy Barnes FTW 😃
Awesome reaction.I jump everytime i see someone is reacting to this incredible performance.
An epic storytelling version ❤
Loved your reaction, best ive seen so far. Enjoyed your comments and insights. Kasey is definitely feeling it. I've known Kasey's stuff for 20 years and this surprised me. Love it!
💯% agree with you on that one Jem
Not sure if anyone had commented but the video is a collection of fans own footage edited together.
Holy shit! It sounds like an old nameless folk tune from times immemorial
Great reaction.

Loved loved your reaction. You, good fellow, are a delight! New sub.
Kasey sings 4 minutes of anguish then explodes into 4 minutes of anger.
Thanks for the reaction, kasey made this her own, while respecting M I love her song "Ain't no little girl" different than this, but emotional, worth a listen 💖
Twins! 🌟🌟

Thats song number 3 into God tier of covers. And you know what, it’s probably straight to number one, sorry Johnny ❤ EXTRAORDINARY
Amazing performance. Reminds me of how Patti Smith covered Nirvana (including the banjo.)
Everyone should've been on their feet at the end of this, talk about a performance!!!
Omg! When all the instruments and band came in i got goose bumps on my goosebumps!
That’s why I like to listen to your reactions beyond Ren’n’Friends. Opening new doors to hidden treasures. AMK now Kasey, enriching us all! keep on going Walter! ❤
Yo I just followed Kasey here but you're great hey, love your chatter and vibe, subscribed from Australia.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
My second listen on this too. The first time I didnt have much time to go through it all but omg so glad I am this time 😊
INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!! and it really showcases Eminem’s writing too. Love this!
great intro with the lyrics 😄
Long time fan of Kasey Chambers. I hadn't ever listened to this one... but love her songs Rattlin' Bones (with Shane Nicholson) and Wheelbarrow. This is the best thing I've seen of hers.

Yes her Dad Bill is playing slide guitar on the left, with the hat. Maybe that’s what you meant. This was definitely an exceptional performance.
Good job
I was never really a fan of Kasey until I heard this....................totally blown away
somewhere between Janis Joplin and Melanie Safka IMO
I looks like the video was spliced together from several fan recordings. Maybe not meant to be an official studio music video. Which makes it even better, more real, no second takes.

Wish I was in the audience seeing this live. She is awesome.❤
Her dad is on slide I believe!!
Is just me but Kasey and the band is like receiving 1000 volts of emotions
PS that keyboard 70s style yeah Baby
Loved your reaction
Thank you
❤️
👌good choice. still waiting that Beth Hart - am i the one (live at Paradiso) 🙏 you'll be 🤯
Since a friend sent a link to her cover a few weeks ago, I've listened to it dozens of times and watched at least a dozen reaction videos. Good analysis mate. You're in the right game.
Love your reaction 🎉
I think that is her brother Nash on guitar.
a new ozzy sub here for this, awesome reaction matey x
Great reaction ❤
You said enough that id love to hear your thoughts on other songs. I subscribed.
❤
She’s great! You’d also like Tori Amos doing Smells Like Teen Spirit. ❤😊
Folk Eminem made a baby with Pink Floyd
Pretty much every reactor claps their hands at some point in this performance.
I have to tell you, I get annoyed at some many pauses in a reaction. One piece of trivia for you. Kasey's father is on the slide/steel guitar. Just my thoughts about some reactions.
I hate it when it seems like are doing just for rules sake to not be blocked but this was like he used it for purpose.
Chill mate, Iagree usually but this song makes the lyrics show as humanbeing our emotions.
You are taken to another place
