A few things about the video: This is Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. The reason for the footage quality is because it was shot on phones by members of the audience. After the performance, Kasey's team reached out on social media for footage so they could put the clip together. The slide guitar s being played by Bill Chambers, Kasey's dad.

  • @roddow612

It's dark and grainy because it was not professionally shot. She asked everyone in attendance to send in their cellphone footage which was edited into a video. And the guy playing the slide guitar is her dad.

IMO, Kasey is retelling her life story, using Em's lyrics, from her distant past, here the tone is one of melancholy, and as she comes closer to the present her tone changes to anguish and earnestness until she reaches the present day where she is filled with rage, and allows the music to take all that pain away. A brilliant performance. One of the most extraordinary covers of all time. A special homage to Eminem, the master storyteller.

Raw unadulterated Brilliance! I was totally blown away when I first “experienced” this Phenomenal performance, amazing arrangement & pure to the emotional interpretation of Em’s masterpiece - just legendary!!
Em gave her his permission to release on Spotify, that says it all 👏👏👏 She is aged 46 at the time of this performance 2022. I’ve always been a fan of Kasey, she is a freakin amazing & talented musician, artist & woman. But this was next level genius & so personal for her. She has lived every second of this story. The performance wasn’t filmed, she put a post out after the show to fans present to please send in any footage, the compilation of which you see. The band killed it, matching & building with her energy brilliantly. Long time band member Brandon (I think 🤔) on guitar & the vocals that nurtured the momentum & her dad on slide guitar making it sing like a phoenix - all of them together made this one of the all time best live, for me a rebirth, not a cover, that I’ve ever heard, seen & felt….to my core.

My take on this song is that it is a story in 2 parts. The first part with Kasey going solo is one of utter hopelessness and despair of the person's situation in life.
The second part, with the entire band, is of anger and determination. This person living a life without hope finally sees a single opportunity to better themself.
And they are determined to do it.

I felt it was three parts. Kasey's solo first; & then something subtle added with the guitarist. Love that guitar's sound & the simple harmonies are amazing. Then....wow with the whole band. I hope this was her last encore because she looked totally done by the time she was finished...so much emotion & the band was giving 110% as well. Such a gutsy arrangement for an Aussie country music singer to take on one of Eminem's songs. And she's blown everyone away. Great reaction mate. I've only seen one other reactor notice her getting the pick before the band drops in.

    • @garyrowlands2334

I agree with you on the 3 parts to this song from a musical point of view. I was more focused on the message.
And yes, Kasey did give 110%. She looked absolutely drained at the end. I don't think I've ever seen anyone perform like that. Such raw emotion , a bit like showing the world your inner feelings. Being vulnerable.

She knew as she was putting this together during lockdown, that this may be the only opportunity she has to go world wide viral. And she did it! Amazingly. She made a song that changed the game. Kasey presented this performance as her life in song - as a journey. It starts with the soft plead of uncertainty highlighting a lack of confidence. Then the mood all changed to a cry of anguish and determination. Finally, after all the hard work comes tremendous acclamation and success. She lost herself and left her soul on stage, laid bare and battered. Unbelievable and brilliant. This was a deconstruction of Eminem's incredible artistry reassembled and made better.

Kasey has been a superstar in Australian country/folk for over 25 years and she was the youngest ever recipient of the ARIA Hall of Fame. However, Kasey has been performing since she was very young with the family in the Dead Ringer Band and this was the culmination of the work she did whilst in Covid lockdown! Kasey still performs with her family, hence why her Dad, Bill, is on slide during this performance. ❤ Kasey is always best in a live setting…she always puts 110% into her performances. This has to be the best live performance from Kasey ever! ❤ I would have given anything to be there in Newcastle at that concert! Not bad for a 46 year old Mum hey? Welcome to our Kasey 😊

This performance has been described as Rock-Ballad, Kasey's approach is like a mother talking to her children; it starts of soft and eerily haunting as the guitar is introduced, then when the band comes in it becomes a desperate plea. Kasey is an Australian country music singer-songwriter, but her approach to this song is another of her talents as an artist; she is a highly acclaimed singer, and has won many awards for her 12 studio albums(produced by her brother, Nash) and hit singles. She originally started in the family band, Dead Ringer Band; with her father(Bill), her mother(Diane) and her brother(Nash) before starting a solo career.

Her looks have never fit in the country mode, which led to "Not Pretty Enough" which got some traction in the US in 2001/2002 (Lose Yourself came out in 2002). Another young woman's song "The Captain" was also a hit for her & I believe it was fearured on The Sopranos. I really like her mature woman's song "Ain't No Little Girl" (Bluegrass Studios live version is good) and that might inform where she pulled the emotional content out for Lose Yourself. The second half of this cover reminds me a lot of Aussie pub rock of the 80s & 90s. While she's slowed everything down, used the crying quality in her voice for the first half to pkay up the sadness etc, to my mind she's kept a lot of Eminem's cadencing & emphasises his rhymes with this arrangement. Saw a Kelly Clarson cover & while Kelly is a great singer whoever arranged it lost most of those qualities & detracted from the lyrics. Kasey celebrates them, polishes them up & adds a different but equally valuable emotional spin to it. Glad you liked it, enjoyed your reaction

Kasey makes you think the lyrics and message are her's, not Eminem's.....the emotional impact is that strong to me .......as "The Fairy Voice Mother" said, "Kasey strums that banjo like it owes her money" ...........I hope you also felt the raw truth in her performance........

It has a Pink Floyd vibe , Throw in a little Janis Joplin and of course the lyrical genius “Em”. And you have one kick ass song.

If you want to hear a Cover that is better than the original by 1000% then you have to hear the Johnny Farnham (live) rendition of “Help” with the Melbourne symphonic Orchestra. He is Australia’s GOAT!
