Opening up and showing "weakness" is the very antithesis of weakness. As a fellow introvert with decades of mental health problems, I know how difficult it had to have been to turn on that camera and record this. Your self-doubt was unfounded, you did everything right, and I hope this new endeavor brings you closer to your goals. Well wishes from Sweden.

Welcome to RUclips. Ren has taught people, especially men, that it is ok to show emotion. It is ok to talk about your fears and be open. I’m 72 and my whole life, I would lie to people and say “I’m just fine” and give them a big Kathy smile. No one knew how I hated myself and had suicidal thoughts every day. I never thought I could do anything right. I resonate to so many REN songs and found out that I was not alone which has helped me. It is ok to cry and I appreciate your honesty.

I found Ren when Hi Ren hit my RUclips feed, and I fell deep. Such an intelligent, well-read master of lyrics and delivery, so musically talented, so raw and vulnerable. So moving.
You're right, about why we relate to Hi Ren .. it's the insight Ren brings to human vulnerability, to mental health, to hope. So insightful, and profoundly moving.
Ren has been making music, composing songs for many years. Since I found him, I've watched and listened to everything he has done. So much to discover and appreciate, so many moods and messages, and even (sometimes delightfully crass) playfulness.
One of my favourite early Ren songs is so sweet and encouraging and optimistic .. It's Alright..

Well, here you are a day later and you've got yourself a few subscriber already - myself included. There are thousands of "Ren-egades" out there, and they'll be flocking towards you - so you're far from alone in your struggles buddy. He makes me weep too - he hits the nail so perfectly on the head. He exposes our "shameful" fragility to the light - and we find it's actually okay. I think my tears are a mixture of sadness that we carry this burden - and joy, in understanding that we don't have to carry it alone - we are NOT alone.
One of the things Ren has given the World is to help us realise that it's okay to let others know that we're plagued with self-doubt, negativity, and psychological fragility - simply because we all are. Like Ren says in the epilogue, soften, relax, and that dance gets easier. You don't need too beat yourself up in solitude, it's the human condition - we're all in the same boat. I can't see you, or speak to you face to face, but be assured that there is love and compassion for you floating across the ether in your direction - it is there. Sincere best wishes to you, and for your new venture. You done great mate.

From one introvert to another, I applaud your strength in putting out this reaction video. I am 63 years old and have also struggled with severe depression and anxiety. My internal voice got to the point where I had to take some time off from work and reach out for help. I told my therapist yesterday that I felt guilty because so many people have much worse problems than I do. I also told him that I felt ashamed to be weak and not strong enough to continue struggling to get by each day at a time. He stopped me in my tracks and pointed out that I am stronger than most people because no matter how much I suffer, I bravely continue to make life better for me and those who are close to me. Please believe me when I say that posting this reaction video makes you a hero in my eyes and I proudly shared your tears rolling down my face. This is art of transcendent beauty and an *important* song.
Artists often struggle with imposter syndrome. There’s a movie starring Olivia Munn called “Violet” that rings of this and was a transformative experience for me-much the same as this song resonates.
As a person who’s never been able to escape negative self-talk and imposter syndrome, *realizing* that I can exert the strength that destructive voice questions-strength that already resides within me-was sooo important.
It takes time to push past the negativity-to make your own voice stronger, but if anyone out there is struggling with this, please please please *know* that you can do it.
*Know* that I believe in you… but you don’t need me to-just like you don’t need the shroud of doubt that feels first of protection and then as a prison.
You are *stronger* than that voice.
You are stronger than you can *possibly* know…
until you push back with softness or aggression-your choice.

    No need for any apology.
Your reaction is honest and pure.
    Just like Ren's video.
Ren truly has a way with words like no other artist i've heard in many years.
This particular piece and style is generally not something i like, but this video and the lyrics just hit me right in the very soul.
As someone who has lived with severe depression for 40 years now, it struck a a real chord with me.
Ren has an unparalleled ability to convey emotion with words.
I can't call it song really, coz to me it's more than that, it goes way beyond just a song to me.
I have said to other people who react to Hi Ren that i think it's one of the most accurately told and illustrated pieces of art that depict the eternal conflict of the human condition.
The battle between the so called "Heaven" and "Hell" and the setting of the eternal conflicts battlefield is the human psyche.
Just know that when it feels like you are in the darkest of places, no matter how dark it may seem and feel, know that your are not alone.
I know that if you are in that dark place right now, this wont help at all, i know that very well because we don't think with a rational mind when we are at our lowest.
All i can say as someone who still walks this earth despite many times being close to call it a day is this:
Learn to see the signs of when you are about to fall down, learn about yourself, know yourself and try to come to terms with and accept that maybe, just maybe, this is as good as it ever gets.
That way the struggle probably will turn a little bit easier.
As Ren put it: It's not a battle for us to "win", it's an Eternal Dance.
If we aim to get rid of it completely, we seek to become more than human.
We all have our own struggles, to some it may seem less or worse.
But all of us carry our very own personal hell and some of us have lost our touch with our heaven.
And in order to find a resemblance of heaven again, we need to find ourselves first, Who We Are.
I am not a religious person but there is no doubt that the religious ideas makes for a very good concept based way of describing things.
There is after all a reason why one of the most captivating stories of all time are those of religious texts.
Because who doesn't love a good story? :)
And so with these words I hope your days become just a little bit brighter Sir!
Godspeed and much love from Sweden!

Ren is also very much an introvert ( Lost All Faith) and it is through his music that he delivers his own struggles, battles, in the rawest and most authentic way possible. With this video and song ( it’s really so so much more than just a song) he has cracked open the armor of men , many of whom are or have been in the military. It’s one thing to love Ren for his musical genius, prowess , and all around talent but it is the people such as yourself ( and myself) and countless others who cried, bawled, and were left speechless because FINALLY, THEY FELT SEEN, AND HEARD, AND UNDERSTOOD WITHOUT HAVING TO SAY ANYTHING OR EXPLAIN ANYTHING. ❤ A fellow Renegade and student

After years of poorly managed depression and anxiety, which led to substance abuse, I found myself at a crossroad. On August 21st of last year, not knowing how I ended up here,I opened my eyes with my family surrounding me in a hospital bed. I was intubated, on life support, with an unclear prognosis of whether or not life or death was ahead of me. While on life support my family never left my side and although we could not orally communicate, our raw emotion was deafening. My sister asked me to watch “Hi Ren” while I lay strapped to the hospital bed with a machine that was breathing for me. She was insistent that I watch it and I wrote down on a piece of paper “ I don’t have much of a choice, do I?” We chuckled in that moment and then she pressed play. I watched the entire video and with tears streaming down my face, I slid another note to her that said “ play it again”… I must have watched it 4 or 5 times consecutively. Two days later I was able to breathe on my own. I wasn’t sure if I wanted or deserved another chance at life but I was given one. Not to downplay the significance of the ventilator but I found a much more effective form of life support. I feel silly admitting that after watching and dissecting “Hi Ren” dozens of times, I discovered what “reaction videos” were,as my RUclips feed was full of suggestions for these “reactions”. I don’t remember which reactor I watched first, but I was hooked. I probably watched every single reaction video for Hi Ren and that is not an exaggeration. I spent about two months, non stop, watching reactors and the connection and community that I felt, simply watching the similar raw emotion of other humans, was life changing. During this period, I made a full recovery physically. However, it was, still is, and will always be my commitment to my mental health and proper treatment that is required for me to earn the title of a survivor. Although I am unable to spend my days in a rabbit hole of “Hi Ren” reactions, there are times when I feel that my pendulum gets stuck in the darkness and when that happens, I find a new reactor to “Hi Ren” and I instantly feel rejuvenate and grounded again. I don’t feel so alone anymore. I chose your reaction today and I would like to thank you for the support and connection that you’ve provided to me. In closing, I need to admit that,as a 38 year old woman who doesn’t like change, I was convinced that the advancements in technology, the internet specifically, would ultimately isolate and desensitize humans of their primitive need for social interaction and connection. Well, once again, I was wrong. I consider you, your fellow reactors and all the impacted viewers to be my family, related to one another in through the power of music and all art that evokes feelings. Thanks for the positive push that I needed today. And sorry for the headache you must have from reading this entire comment 🤟🏼

Great reaction, brother. Much respect for having the courage to open up. I am a 58 y/o, totally and permanently disabled veteran who has been suffering from Chronic Multisymptom Illness (Gulf War Illness) for over 30 years. I have been dealing with mental health issues (Major Clinical Depression, Bipolar Disorder, and Unspecified Mood Disorder) in addition to various chronic physical issues. My mental health cost me a successful military career, a marriage, and friendships to the point that I have become a total recluse for the past 10 years. My condition was brought on by prolonged exposure to low-dose sarin nerve gas and experimental vaccines and meds during the Gulf War. A few years later, the now black-boxed use of the anti-malarial drug "Mefloquine" pushed me over the edge, and I experienced a psychotic episode.
For over 15 years, I was in therapy and prescribed a cocktail of max doses of psychotropics until I decided to carefully wean myself off all medications in 2014. The side effects of the drugs were too many and too severe, left me an emotional zombie and the benefits were negligible. I still struggle with my mental health, as well as physical symptoms, daily, but I rather feel pain than nothing at all. Ren has been able to express through his songs what I have been unsuccessfully trying to communicate to others regarding my mental, emotional, and physical struggles. Each new day, I wholly rely on God for my strength and remind myself that I am doing better than I deserve; without Him, I would have "checked out" a long time ago.

Hello friend. So sorry for the late response. I try to respond to as many as possible but it's overwhelming. I read yours just now and it touched me. First of all, thank you for your service and sacrifice. Veterans have a soft spot in my heart, especially those who have put their lives on the line and came back broken mentally and/or physically. I have had to deal with my own issues that though they were completely different, they also tried my soul and maid me a zombie because of the meds. Pain pills, antidepressants, adhd meds, sleep meds, nerve pain drugs, muscle relaxers, etc. I almost "checked out" a couple of times. I wish I had Ren at the time, but interestingly, I did find some benefit from youtube. I watched a lot of guided meditation and guided hypnosis videos, saw a therapist, worked on nutrition, stopped drinking, practiced guided meditation and positive thinking, and a few other things that over a number of years slowly allowed me to regain some of my former self. Obviously from my reactions, I'm not completely healed. Perhaps I won't ever but I do think Ren's music has helped, and this community of people who have rallied around me on this channel have helped a lot as well. I'm certainly glad you have found some bit of relief. It's a hard journey, but you are tough. You went to war. You can do this. You have the power to overcome and achieve. Hope is a powerful thing. I think that for people like us with mental challenges, life is like a greased pole. You can't climb a greased pole unless you can put a peg in the bottom. That peg is just something positive in your life. Any little thing. Any sign of hope, any little bit of improvement, that little something you can stand on that allows you to stand and pound the next peg into the pole, and eventually you climb that f*cking pole and you pull yourself out of that pit. You can do this my friend and I'm proud of you for still fighting, still moving forward.

I think part of the reason that Ren's music touches people so much. Which I do appreciate you're sharing your feelings with us. That's something a lot of people won't do. They will get up and walk out before they show you their tears. But I noticed that the more ished you've gone through. The more ren's music tends to touch you. And I want you to know you're not alone. There's a lot of us that are in the same boat. Or similar boats as you, not all of us have been through the service like you, which I thank you for, but life isn't always easy for everybody, and Ren has had a hugely difficult life. So his ability to connect with those of us who have had difficult lives causes a wave of emotions.

      @choppedliver_reacts  3 месяца назад +3

Absolutely. It's hard. And I agree about going through a lot of sh8t. I've been through my share of it. It's so easy to compare myself to everyone in life I feel like has it better than me and wonder "why me". But also, there's so many people who have it worse off, which I also must remember. Like ren said though, there's victims and students. I try to pick myself up, learn, and move forward. But we are all human. We are going to feel things, we are going to take steps forward and steps backward. I've felt like giving up many times, but I've always managed to pick myself up and go forward again. I'm definitely my worst critic, but if I had to give myself credit, it would that I eventually bottom out and move forward again. Eventually.

Great first reaction! Choosing "Hi Ren" for your first reaction was perfect for you I think. The Renegades will show up and support Ren and the creators who support him. We are a safe space on the internet and we love honest reactions.
You did a great job. You were open, vulnerable, you sat with the feelings emerging just like Ren intended with this song, and I absolutely love how you took your time with it as well. I am here for your Ren journey! xx

Strength not only comes from within, but also with community. When we share and are shared with, we can't help but hold up our fellow human. When you feel alone or different, remember that the person sitting next to you probably has some of the same issues. Hope, never forget to hope.

I checked out your reaction because I am a Renegade, and I remained to the end because of who you are. I'm quite late to the party here but I really enjoyed your reaction! Vulnerability is our greatest strength... It takes brass balls to be vulnerable in the face of uncertainty and many simply cannot. You, however, are immediately admirable for yours and I think your first choice of song to react to was symbiotic in that process! I loved it and I hope you continue more reactions!
Seeing you love NIN perhaps you could react to Cash's cover of Hurt or the original!
Thank you for the reaction... You made my morning!
P.S. What made your reaction so potent was your authenticity... not being worried about what you're supposed to say or do. You were noticeably uncomfortable but you owned that moment and stayed in it. What a blessing to share with others 💪❤️‍🩹 Please continue! 🫶

My husband served as a Marine for almost 10 years. He did 2 tours in Iraq when we first started dating. Each time he lost a bit of himself (we were both in our mid 20s). Today he works as a supervisor at a chemical plant and we have been married almost 15 years. He is the hardest working person i know but he always feels he could do more. My husband has nightmares and a small amount of ptsd. He isnt superman or batman but to me and our daughter he is our superhero. And one day when we leave this beautiful earth and meet at those pearly gates, i hope he feels he did more than most and is loved unconditionally. I loved your reaction. I am an army veteran with an entire lifetime of mental disease behind me. Music helps. Letting myself feel the hurt and the ugly feelings is the best way I have found to begin pulling myself out of the sludge. Sometimes you have to dump out the entire bucket to sort our what filled it up in the first place. Ren and Sam Tompkins have saved so many people by putting them in a place where they can no longer avoid the things that consume them. I never thought the army teaching to "embrace the suck" would be such a powerful lesson.

  • @Prsboy78

Strength comes in many forms and showing feelings shows bravery and realness that many can't or won't.
Ren is a breath of fresh air in a industry that is as cut throat and unforgiving.
The fact that it makes people open up and talk makes it that much better.
I have worked as a chef, nurse, musician and currently as a firefighter and social support worker and I know that my past struggles make me a better, more empathetic person and I can relate with my clients who might be going through many of my past battles.
Realness and honesty has more power than we give it credit for.
Chase your dreams and try things, you will only regret the dreams that you don't put effort into.
