Honestly, think of the balls it takes to take probally the greatest rap song ever written and twist into something where youre all alone with just your audience and a fkn banjo. And she smashes it like a pinata. Massive respect.
She grew up in the Dead Ringer Band, that's her brother on rhythm guitar and backup vocals and her Father on lap steel slide guitar.
She's been playing on stage since age 12 and is Australian musical royalty.

Who knew that thrashing metal banjo and slide guitar was something missing in our lives? Apparently Kasey Chambers knew. By the way, that's her dad on slide guitar. Kasey and her dad are country music royalty here in Australia, but she never lets genre define her and is willing to go wherever her talent leads. This is what you get when you put that talent into COVID lock down with nothing to do but play with music.
You know that the poor banjo was going to be shredded when she pulled out that pic. The song is hers, she's made Emimen's song hers, as good as the original if not better. Kassey leaves blood sweat and tears on stage - nothing left in the tank when shes finishes a live performance, let alone the studio

I think we all knew at the start, that a man of your musical integrity, knowledge & appreciation, would truly understand what Kasey & her band have done there.
Kasey is mainly a Country singer, with a huge following down here in Australia. But every now & then she crosses into other genres. She is a huge fan of Eminem, and she certainly did him proud with this homage to him. I sincerely hope he has seen it.
Just a note. They asked for members of the audience to send in video clips from their phones. Those clips made up a fair bit of this video. That's why the images weren't pristine throughout. But what a brilliant concept.
He has definitely seen it, because Kasey has it on streaming platforms now which means he has to approve covers to be on there. The writers and owners of original songs must approve for a cover to be on streaming services

Kasey & Eminem are almost contemporaries, she's 4 years younger & broke through in the US with "Am I Not Pretty Enough" back in 2001 (compare: Lose Yourself came out in 2002) & she spent her teen years performing with her family's country band in Australia. In the US she's classed as alt country. But shes the background where she can relate. You've got to be good live to really get places here usually, although with fewer venues, tv shows & internet occasionally turn up good performers. But its no coincidence that Tones & I (another Aussie) did street performing to hone her skills. I digress. Try Pretty Enough or "Ain't No Little Girl" if you want something gritty "The Captain" was a hit here too but personally not one I really like.Think she's always listened to Eminem & this was a covid lockdown project from what she's said in interviews. 😊

I'm at that 8 minute mark and this is dope AF bro dope dope. Love when artist can take something and put their own signature to the writing of another artist and bring such a whole new feel on it a diff vibe but the story rings still solid but this was a deeper feel on it imo

Kasey's about 10 years my junior and as a young fella I used to buy fish and chips from her parents' shop in Southend, South Australia. Her whole family is musical (that's her dad on the slide guitar). We are all extremely proud of Kasey. Thanks for doing this one! Kasey is very under appreciated and needs to be recognised more on an international scale! Kasey is a master of storytelling, conveying lyrics and emotion! She is an icon in the Australian music industry, mostly for country and folk, but has her own style and is never afraid to delve into something outside the box. She is just getting better as she gets older. I really hope that Eminem has seen this and appreciates that his song and lyrics were re-imagined in such a spectacular way. Where else would you see banjo, pedal steel guitar and rock band together? Kasey started her solo commercial career around the same time as Eminem and she was a big fan of his music. Kasey spent lockdown playing around with some of her favourite songs and this version of Lose Yourself is the result. Brilliant! Kasey has spent her whole solo career bucking the constraints of the record companies and always gone her way. She made it to the top in Aussie music anyway with many awards, becoming the youngest ever ARIA Hall of Fame recipient. BTW….how was Lose Yourself for breath and vocal control? Not to mention the awesome arrangement. ❤ Also, that was Kasey’s Dad, Bill, on the steel guitar.

Now THIS is a reaction - I've seen every one of the reaction videos out there of this performance and yours was fantastic (not a fan of the spoilers at the beginning as I prefer to watch it unfold blindly, but I digress). You gave it the respect it derseves and understood how amazing it was that she re-imagined it and chose an arrangement that totally honours the original but puts a new spin on it. It was another reactor who got me on to this cover and I'll never forget how surprised I was as it unfolded. This earned you a new subscriber.
The first two verses are in the "third person", then the drop, then it's all in the first person. What a PERFECT placement on that drop, emphasizing that the past is over. God DAMN Em is a great writer And Casey deconstructed every word and pieced it back together in a way that's even MORE moving that the original. This was an amazing reaction. Thank you.

While you watch this performance remember Kasey is a very well known Country star here and her band is also very modern country. I have seen her live at least 20 times but not like this ! WHAT A TRANSITION! Thanks for your respect for this very fine artist as she writes most of her own material. I believe this was the very first time she ever sang this live. Another couple of superb covers by Australian artists: John Farnham: "Help" live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra - another "cover" that is really a "new" song; Cold Chisel: "Wild Thing" (last stand) live - a straight up cover that pretty much captures the wild thing ethos. [Apologies if you have already watched them but if you have I couldn't find them.]
