From desperation to anguish to anger to rage all with a bango. Well done Kasey. I truly hope you get the international recognition you deserve 🪕😀🪕😀
A masterpiece that creeps up on you and then hits you in the face.
I loved the original... but... Em never made me cry
You weren't listening hard enough
@@schavez5656 Pretty sure I understood. Em never made me cry. You saying he made YOU cry? You cry when Em raps this song? Really?
Damn Em makes me cry all the time.
@@thebackyardbear I actually did when it was first released, when I've heard it in the movie. It's about timing, Em won't feel the song today like he felt it when it was made, different moments in life. But if you didn't got the emotion, the struggle, the crawl, the gritt for the one opportunity in Eminem's original that's on you...
As I'm sure it's the same for Kasey... She must have gone through something when she made this cover, give it 10 years and see if she feels it the same... But absolutely a great cover, great performance!
@@schavez5656 you bloody drongo
I watched her perform this live at Bluesfest Melbourne a few weeks ago. Every single person in the audience was completely mesmerised and blown away. There were many tears. Best live performance I've ever witnessed.
Recorded June 2022 at Newcastle, Australia. It's right at the start of the video.
It's an awesome cover, she's been around for a long time and was singing on stage with the family's band since she was 10. That's her Dad on slide guitar.
Thanks, I was going to mention her Dad was on slide.
Chills. Man she did her thing. Speechless.
So, did you think when you woke up this morning that you'd be enjoying a cover of Eminem done by an Australian Country artist on banjo? Strange world we're in. Kasey joined her parents country band at the start of the 90's (Dead Ringer Band) and then started her solo career at the end of that decade. She's never been afraid of wearing her heart on her sleeve or righting out of her pain from life. Her dad was playing the slide guitar on this recording. The poor quality in parts was because video shot by some of her fans was included in the mix - she put a call out to her fans and they sent it in.
Thanks for doing the reaction.
Casey showed Eminem just how good a song writer he is, and how talented Casey is.
This is one of my favorite songs, a true masterpiece, so I was very skeptical of this cover. Having said that, with her haunting vocals I truly believe she pulled it off. Love and respect, brother, hog fam Canada 🇨🇦 ❤
I love this original song. This is a masterpiece. So much emotion. I want to see Em watch this, would definitely bring a tear to his eye.
She was very brave to try it, and she pulled it off.
Brilliant! Kasey didn't just 'SING' this Kasey 'LIVED' it. Slowly telling the story...then showing the emotion of the song....then ANGER! Wow I had my hand on my heart and tears in my eyes. Eminem's lyrics are so powerful and Kasey did a great tribute to his song imo. Wow! Loved your reaction my friend. waiving from Australia.
🇦🇺 Our home girl is amazing isn't she. She feels the lyrics deep down into her soul ❤
Hi from Brisbane, Queensland 🖐
I've been watching people react to this performance for a couple of months now. You understood her performance the best. As others have commented the song is haunting. Between Kasey's vocals and the slide guitar that drops half way through it feels to me as if my heart is being ripped from my chest. Her version adds the angst the lyrics deserve. When Kasey did this performance she had no plans to put out a video. The reaction to the performance was so strong she put out a message to those in the audience to send in any phone video recordings, hence the strange angles and quality of the video. A more than memorial performance that I expect to go viral in the coming months
Australian royalty legend in music business.
Best cover I've ever heard .
I saw the thumbnail for this several days ago and didn’t check it out cause I thought no way this was going to be good. Blew me away when I finally listened to it.
LOL! You never know what you will like!
Kasey absolutely gave it emotional depth from the anguish and pain at the start to the angst at the end. Go Kasey. Aussie legend 🇦🇺
What a haunting vocal! According to her Biography pnline, she is Australian born, to a musical family. She has traveled extensively in Australia, Africa as well as the U.S.A. Now has a husband and 3 children.
Her father's playing lap style and I'm 99% sure her brother's sing harmony/ playing electric guitar on this.
The other guitarist and singer is Brandon Dodd. Her brother Nash has played with her in the past and produces most of her stuff
Spot on her parents were the dead ringer band. Got to know them in the 90's was a good time, Kasey was killing it back then, we all knew she would make it.
@stanroach2842 Thanks for the updated info
THE Aussie Legend that is KASEY. Welcome to 'our' world - Down Under! 😆🤩
This has got to be the best cover of all time. She is a Bluegrass/Country singer in Australia. She took a 20 year old rap song, tore it completely up, & made it her bloody own!!! I have just watched it a dozen times tonight, & each time I have got goosebumps & tears flowing. The anguish in this performance is on another level! Her early career mirrored Eminem's which is why she chose this song. Her song, Am I Not Pretty Enough was her big fuck you to the radio stations who would not play her songs. Ironically, it became her first hit, played on every radio station in the country. Youngest woman to be inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association Hall of Fame. Now you understand why she feels this song?
Kasey is a big Eminem fan. I feel she can personally relate to this song. She wrote 'Not Pretty Enough' as a testament to her struggles with the music 'industry' and being accepted for her talent.
The two songs actually came out within a year of each other. I've wondered on another reaction what Eminem's version of Not Pretty Enough might be. Rap, of course, maybe with extra bars & expletives? Not F....g Pretty Enough?
Very perspective take and got me thinking
All that pain was in the lyrics, but Kasey brought it out. Amazng.
Aussie here who's seen Kasey a few times live. She's a born Aussie, and performed this for the first time in June 2022. I can't wait for her to tour Western Australia again, coz I gotta see this live. I LOVE this and play it daily lol. Her whole family is musical, and that's Kaseys dad sitting on the chair left of screen playing the slide guitar. This is the first time I've ever seen/heard Kasey do rock, she's normally a country artist, but oh man did she rock this out with attitude, heart and soul. LOVE the reaction and love your work Kasey 🤟🦘🐨
The guts it takes to cover Em would be tough to quantify. This was stunning. You are so right, this amplifies Em's writing to a whole other level.
I felt like this version was empty of ego... In the best possible way. Love ❤️ this version. Well written songs can transcend genre.
Loved your reaction and analysis mate. I’m seventy five years old and I didn’t know anything about Lose Yourself. I do know Kasey, being Australian but had never heard her do anything like this before. What a masterpiece
73 here. I loved the original when it came out 21 years ago and she deconstructed and reassembled this is a way I could not imagine.
I’m 69 and feel the same.
it strikes a different chord. Reaches deeper into the soul.
Kasey's my home girl 🇦🇺🦘
She's an icon here.
Kasey said that they listen to eminem a lot in her house and have done for many years.
During covid lockdown she had the time to learn all the lyrics and write a melody.
She added that she's never connected more to an audience than she did when she performed this.
I love it because it showcases Em's lyrical mastery and Kasey's beautiful soul ❤❤❤❤
Thank you Eminem for your powerful lyrics, and thank you Kasey and the band for giving them the emotion they deserve.
Our Kasey, up there shredding that banjo like the Queen she is.
Everyone I've ever showed this to has been blown allllll the fuck away, and rightly so.
The reaction is always "holy shiiiiiiiit, this is the tits!"
Epic VERSION ❤ performed 2022 in Newcastle Australia
Loved the reaction. Thanks.
You're right, it's the pain in the delivery.
Loved the reaction. It's hers now .
Aussie Icon for the last 20 years. Great Artist
She is an aussie country singer songwriter, does switch genres at times. This was THE first public performance of this tribute at the end of her show. They had it recorded, no video. Her fans said it was special, so she asked if they had footage, to send it in.
I agree, it is more telling the story. I love it.
I must say, you are a profoundly insightful reviewer. I tweeted this to Em (with many others, probably) and I hope he listens to it. A duo with both of them would be phenomenal.
she did this a year ago roughly..... shes an aussie folk singer ..... were very proud of our 'kasey - shes a national treasure'..... shes loved by all aussies
Back in 2000, I told my parents that generations from now that people would be getting their doctorates in studying Eminem as poetry.
I think this shows the depth of his writing to be able to pull this out.
Amazong work by Kasey.
Just the tip of the iceberg of our glorious Aussie music.❤️🇦🇺
Hi from Brisbane Queensland ❤
@@Lynnie_14 G’day from WA
Hi from Redlands, Queensland 😊
She absolutely OWNED every syllable and note in this cover!
Can't wait to see him crawl further down the Auusie music rabbit hole!
@@askara_755 👋🏻 Hi. Ikr😆 He may be just a little while.
Hi from nz. Guy Sebastian, Stan Walker. I'm into singers. 😊
Best cover ever. Bloody brilliant. Absolutely loved it. Your comments are spot on.
Dammit, you broke my streak... pretty much every reactor has clapped at some point during their reaction. Great reaction none the less.
She really puts the struggle n pain into her version, you can tell she's lived it at some stage.
Never heard this one before! Nice reaction!
This is like, an entirely reimagined version of the song. Not a genre I would normally gravitate toward, but fuckin’ A! She murdered it!
You feel the pain of the lyrics more with the vocals slowed and scaled back. Her crooning voice with that country warble helps too.
Dope AF! She left it all on the stage. Brilliant ❤
Hear a lot of people say that this flow is about the hype, the inspiration. This version? This isn't about the victory, this is about the cost. Flame.
Amazing Arrangement 🔥
U know why people dont try to cover MM hits because they cant UNTIL now this is musical art at its finest brilliant and sole searching 🔨
God mode❤
This take on lose just shows how Eminem is an incredibly good poet in his own right
BEST REACTION EVER, SHANEY G!! 😍 YOU HAD ME SMILING & UP DANCING RIGHT ALONG WITH YOU!! 🙂🙂 THANKS! I NEEDED THAT?!! 🩵 HAVE A GREAT NIGHT!
If you're going to do a cover of such an iconic song you have to commit... and holy cow ... she was all in. I've heard a lot of covers of this song but never heard one that I would listen to instead of the original. This one isn't better than the original, it's a completely different piece so it can't be compared. It's a different mood.
Ohhhhh, just wait for it....then she grabs her pick and POW....MIND BLOWN ❤ thanks for playing it, I have been a fan for 15 years, maybe now she can get her flowers
Im wondering.
Can two versions of the same monster epic by different artists be song of the decade TWICE?
You mean quarter of a century?😉 This was out in 2002. Just shows how another artist can bring out a different emotion from a work & make it their own. A bit like Johnny Cash & "Hurt" or perhaps John Farnham & "Help"
@@kathydurow6814 no. A decade is 10 years. Eminem released his in 2002, so his decade would be 2000 to 2010, then we had another decade to 2020, so Kasey's decade would be 2020 to 2030.
But that's IF you begin and end decades on zero, and that little matter has been argued over since forever.
So glad you liked this, huge fan😊
Just rewatching this reaction and love your being open to the unfamiliar- so I subscribed ❤
Thanks for doing this one! This gives me chills every single time I hear it. Kasey is very under appreciated and needs to be recognised more on an international scale! Kasey is a master of storytelling, conveying lyrics and emotion! She is an icon in the Australian music industry, mostly for country and folk, but has her own style and is never afraid to delve into something outside the box. She is just getting better as she gets older. I really hope that Eminem has seen this and appreciates that his song and lyrics were re-imagined in such a spectacular way. I guess he has as he did give her permission to upload to Spotify etc. Would really like to hear what he thought about it though. Where else would you see banjo, pedal steel guitar and rock band together? Kasey started her solo commercial career around the same time as Eminem and she was a big fan of his music. Kasey spent lockdown playing around with some of her favourite songs and this version of Lose Yourself is the result. Brilliant! Kasey has spent her whole solo career bucking the constraints of the record companies and always gone her way. She made it to the top in Aussie music anyway with many awards, becoming the youngest ever ARIA Hall of Fame recipient. BTW….how was that for breath and vocal control? Not to mention the awesome arrangement. ❤ Also, that was Kasey’s Dad, Bill, on the steel guitar.
So glad that reactors in the US have had such a positive reaction to Kasey’s version. ❤ Eminem is an absolutely awesome lyricist and songwriter and Kasey has just done that proud with her version. ❤
She has always loved Emimem and especially this song. She never had time to work on covering it properly until she was in lockdown during Covid. That time brought a lot of pain in this world and I think it added to the way she hit so hard with the emotion here. Kasey is interested in every type of music. We all should be because when we only stick inside our own little bubble we miss some amazing opportunities to hear and experience great music.
Love Kasey ❤️ she's is one of a kind.
I thought the same thing. Eminem version will always n forever be a classic. But hearing it in this format n the way she pronunciates you actually get a more fulfilling respect on his pen game cuz she brings it out on an entire different layout. This shit beautiful!
Love the reaction mate . Good luck going down the Aussie rabbit hole 😊
The cadence
Her whole family is quite entertaining! See them on tour wherever you can. She's still beating the best!
Thank you for your content and efforts
My pleasure!
She has been my favourite singer since I first seen her live with her family band when she was about 14-15 , because I'm a huge country fan and don't listen to too much that's not country , but this would be my favourite of her non country songs
This is BEYOND EPIC!!! 🥰😁😁🤩🤩
She's from Australia! Got Em's permission to put it on Spotify!
You might also want to check out her cover of the Cyndi Lauper song ''True Colors'from early late 1990's/2000's.
Cold blooded brah
The fact that this cover resonates with so many people shows that a great song is a great song, no matter what genre it starts in.
Once the band kicked in they reminded me of Pink Floyd or Zeppelin. So Epic. I pay to see how Em reacted the first time he heard it. Can you imagine the two of them collaborating to do this live together? They can’t could probably sell out an arena just doing an extended version of this song. I’d pay to see that.
1000% makes the writing sound better
My soul stood next to me to tell me she's the one,❤
She's from Australia sung in 2022
❤❤❤❤❤❤'d your reaction!
She understood the assignment 😆❤️🔥
Absolutely love this, Casey did it homage, so deadly she nailed it nailed it I say, woohoo go Casey from someone who wasn't a fan
Awesome reaction!! Couldn't agree more on your breakdown of the difference between the 2.
❤
Kasey is an Australian artist... normally country... and this was performed in 2022.... I mean we love Eminem here..... but Kasey has made this her own.... she actually has never made a video of this.... she asked her audience to send through their phone coverage and her editors/music artists put this video together...... sorry man.... but truly, I think Australian music and it's culture... is some of the best in the world.... and you REALLY will not hear much auto-tune or bullshit over here. If you can't sing, can't perform live.... you don't make it......not in Australia anyway..... and as an end note.... I kind of believe that Kasey is the reincarnation of Janis Joplin..... she is MAGICAL.....
Love this song. Great reaction
Fantastic, enjoyed your reaction.
Aussie legend did this last year 2022
Great observations mate
Australia June 2022, best cover
2022 it was performed.
Thanks for the insightful reaction. You nailed it.
Just watched another reaction & the guy seemed a bit annoyed that it didn’t sound like Eminem version. He missed the whole point & somehow didn’t connect with the emotional aspect.
What’s the point of re-doing/copying the original artist who did a great job, without adding something to it.
She’s not singing karaoke 😄 She made it her own & was creative enough to make another excellent version.
......if you want true emotion and talent from your artists, just check out Kasey's performance...........for real.............plus, she shreds on the banjo!.........
Em did an ok cover of kaseys song
One of those rare times when a cover brings out the true genius of the original lyrics. Awesome!
I am going to suggest another which sounds even less likely to work. Listen to William Shatner & Joe Jackson cover Pulps 'Common People'. Seriously, I know Shatners attempts at singing are a well-known joke but with Joe Jacksons help it works better than the original.
I think its awesome as well i e suggested it to several cgannels
Don't stand too close to the edge... cos you might fall into that Aussie music rabbit hole.
Packed lunch time @Rickandersen😆
@julzhunt7790 you must be a young'en. I never understand what they say/write lol.
@@rickandersen2284 lol. I’m a 55 year old West Aussie. I’m saying if he’s going down the Aussie music rabbit hole that he needs to bring a packed lunch bcoz it’s a long one. 😁
