I have mild cerebral palsy and idiopathic lymphedema and my doctor has told me I need to lose 40 pounds for my joint health and to stop retaining so much water. I really, honestly from the bottom of my heart can't thank you enough for your videos. I can't do many things except for walking (not very fast) and resistance bands. I thought fat loss was going to be so difficult for me but now I feel so excited and motivated!
As someone who struggles with binge eating, I really appreciate that you include warnings for what may be triggers. It's almost always the things that you preface with "don't try this if you struggle with binge eating" that I find the most appealing. You've given me more hope within the last two weeks more than anything has!!!! It's not much but I'm on day 2 of doing the calorie deficit and I have done great and the thing is, is I don't even want to give up this time around!!!!!! I was on keto over 2 years ago and granted I did lose over 55 pounds BUT that was not a lifestyle I could see myself doing the rest of my life. The beginning of this year I was in a bad car wreck when a tractor trailer ran a red light and hit me on my way to work. Ever since then I have gained over 40 pounds and every diet I would literally quit within a day or two until I came upon your videos and Instagram posts. This was super helpful! I’ve lost 16kg so far being in a straight deficit for the past 6 months but after Christmas and letting my weight creep up slightly by overeating I can’t seem to stick to the straight deficit and want to do the alternate deficit, this sounds a bit more fun being able to have some days lower and some days higher calories to still add the higher cal foods I enjoy!

I've been calorie cycling for about a month and was surprised how easy it was. I'm doing the alternate deficit with intermittent fasting 16:8. So on days I work, I don't have a lot of time to eat and I can control myself better with meal prepping for work. So on workdays, I do IF 16:8, in the 8 hours I can eat, I eat low-calorie amount. On my days off, I have more time at home to cook something fresh and I know I have less control and can get a little snacky, so I use those days to not fast and do my higher calorie days. It's been working pretty well for my life style, kind of sad I couldn't figure this out sooner, but better late than never! Thanks J the video was informative!

Today is Day 30 of a Whole30 for me and after watching your IG stories and RUclips ultimately it's not the program that caused me to lose 13 lbs in 30 days, it's the fucking calorie deficit! Man. 30 days I've been depriving myself of the things I love and all I really need to do is make sure I'm eating in a calorie deficit. Keep on doing what you are doing. Love this. Took notes - created an excell sheet of GW, total cals with ranges for deficient and non-deficient days. Been tracking on my fitness pal the last week and it’s been eye opening for how I’ve been eating just below what seems to be a healthy deficient . Sheet iis Complete with 90 day calendar to mark off too. Looking forward making progress in a more mindful , non-disordered way (which is life changing from a disordered thinker who’s lost 150lbs and needed a change in mind set.) hyped to have found you and your vids !!
I definitely struggle with binge eating. I have been doing a straight deficit but I adjust calories weekly. For example wk 1-1200, wk 2-1300, wk3- 1400, etc. and then I start over. I had gotten the idea from a previous video you posted and so far it’s really helped with the mental aspect of weight loss. It makes it feel like I can keep going. Lost 1-2 lbs a week this past month after not being successful with weight loss for nearly 2yrs. Thank you for all you are doing! #sortinghatsquad
As I said on Instagram , your Big Mac challenge has allowed me to live again and get out of disordered eating. You and your videos have saved me... getting out of the cycle , finally.. it’s like a new life. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and delivering the message by making it “user friendly” and also how you deal with naysayers, it’s incredible. I’m un learning all of the bad habits and busting those myths which the diet industry has profited from for so many years. Hi Jordan, I have been following your big Mac challenge and watching most of your videos on nutrition as I'm one of the people afraid of carbs. I have been changing my thought process and focus on calorie deficit I'm still cautious about it and will apply the carb cycling as well. But baby steps. I used to have an eating disorders, and I'm an all or nothing person but this started opening my mind to be a little more flexible. I've been on WW for the past 6 months and have lost slowwwwly, but still a loss. I'm thinking I need to also track my calories because I'm fairly sure I am way under for my calorie deficit which may be why I'm loosing so slow. Great video! I think straight deficit is for people with certain life style and discipline, requires meal planing too. I switch between rest of the three.
One thing that's been helpful for me because I do struggle with binge eating, is to stay on a low carb diet. Not keto necessarily, but even keeping my carb intake around 100g/day (keto is 20g/day for comparison) keeps my blood sugar stable enough that I don't have cravings and even if I intake more calories on the weekend, I don't struggle with food cravings or being hungry, plus I feel better and more energetic.
I've been following you on Insta for a while and have started watching your videos. Your big Mac challenge inspired me to start trying to get into shape (for the nth time). I always had anxiety about food and not being able to eat foods I love and ended up binging and giving up. Realizing now though I can still enjoy food as long as I'm in a deficit has completely changed my perspective. Last time I went on a diet, I restricted to much plateaued and gave up, then felt so down about it, I ended up putting even more weight on...this time I started by accident, I was put on meditation for my ADHD and it's killed my appetite, and so I began eating really little Monday - Friday, on Saturday and Sunday I don't take my meds because to put it bluntly, I like the option to drink and sleep in and my medication makes alcohol dangerous and sleep near on impossible...as a result I was consuming more Saturday and Sunday but my calories where so low the rest of the week I wasn't putting on weight ( I was struggling to get over 1000 calories per day) I clicked on to the fact that this was working and is the best diet trick ever for me, so finding this video just clarifies to me that it's an actual method which works....I'm so excited to loose this COVID lockdown/stress weight I put on!! Its just melting off

I agree, the 5:2 or the Weekend Warrior is definitely not something for someone like me who binge eats after fasting or eating really low cal. I have found the alternate deficit plan is best for me as I know I have to control each day, even the weekends, and allows me to be consistent with my eating with a bit of wiggle room for days I'm just not up for eating or when I feel like having a bit more than normal. You've given me more hope within the last two weeks more than anything has!!!! It's not much but I'm on day 2 of doing the calorie deficit and I have done great and the thing is, is I don't even want to give up this time around!!!!!! I was on keto over 2 years ago and granted I did lose over 55 pounds BUT that was not a lifestyle I could see myself doing the rest of my life. The beginning of this year I was in a bad car wreck when a tractor trailer ran a red light and hit me on my way to work. Ever since then I have gained over 40 pounds and every diet I would literally quit within a day or two until I came upon your videos and Instagram posts. I've unfollowed so many diet "experts" because a lot of what they say has been complete bullshi*. I just want to say THANK YOU for all you have taught me in just this little amount of time. This was super helpful! I’ve lost 16kg so far being in a straight deficit for the past 6 months but after Christmas and letting my weight creep up slightly by overeating I can’t seem to stick to the straight deficit and want to do the alternate deficit, this sounds a bit more fun being able to have some days lower and some days higher calories to still add the higher cal foods I enjoy!
I love this idea of high and low days. I've done the strict deficit and I can make it work but I could definitely see how helpful the alternate deficit could be for me. #sortinghatsquad

2. I missed this post on your instagram because I’ve been attempting to do the straight deficit and it isn’t working for me so I thought great I’m screwed because being in a calorie deficit is the number one thing for fat loss. But now I know I’m not screwed! I just need to try other ways.

How's your progress three months later?
I've been calorie cycling for about a month and was surprised how easy it was. I'm doing the alternate deficit with intermittent fasting 16:8. So on days I work, I don't have a lot of time to eat and I can control myself better with meal prepping for work. So on workdays, I do IF 16:8, in the 8 hours I can eat, I eat low-calorie amount. On my days off, I have more time at home to cook something fresh and I know I have less control and can get a little snacky, so I use those days to not fast and do my higher calorie days. It's been working pretty well for my life style, kind of sad I couldn't figure this out sooner, but better late than never! Thanks J the video was informative!

Eating healthy/appropriately has always felt very constricting to me, which increased my anxiety around food. Knowing there are ways to add some flexibility to stay in a calorie deficit relieves a lot of that anxiety! As always, thanks for the great info Jordan!

Today is Day 30 of a Whole30 for me and after watching your IG stories and RUclips ultimately it's not the program that caused me to lose 13 lbs in 30 days, it's the fucking calorie deficit! Man. 30 days I've been depriving myself of the things I love and all I really need to do is make sure I'm eating in a calorie deficit. Keep on doing what you are doing. Love this. Took notes - created an excell sheet of GW, total cals with ranges for deficient and non-deficient days. Been tracking on my fitness pal the last week and it’s been eye opening for how I’ve been eating just below what seems to be a healthy deficient . Sheet iis Complete with 90 day calendar to mark off too. Looking forward making progress in a more mindful , non-disordered way (which is life changing from a disordered thinker who’s lost 150lbs and needed a change in mind set.) hyped to have found you and your vids !!
I definitely struggle with binge eating. I have been doing a straight deficit but I adjust calories weekly. For example wk 1-1200, wk 2-1300, wk3- 1400, etc. and then I start over. I had gotten the idea from a previous video you posted and so far it’s really helped with the mental aspect of weight loss. It makes it feel like I can keep going. Lost 1-2 lbs a week this past month after not being successful with weight loss for nearly 2yrs. Thank you for all you are doing! #sortinghatsquad
As I said on Instagram , your Big Mac challenge has allowed me to live again and get out of disordered eating. You and your videos have saved me... getting out of the cycle , finally.. it’s like a new life. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and delivering the message by making it “user friendly” and also how you deal with naysayers, it’s incredible. I’m un learning all of the bad habits and busting those myths which the diet industry has profited from for so many years. Can’t wait to see the final video from the challenge and love all of the videos that you’ve produced to this point. Been following for a few months now and can't stop recommending your content to friends and family who are either beginning or struggling with improving their health and fitness... I was lucky enough to find your content right as I was throwing my hands up after my first real experience with a scale fluctuation and I couldn't be more grateful for what you put out there man. That all being said, as I get closer to my first goal body weight, I would LOVE to see some more in-depth content on cycling between bulking/maintenance and deficit... I've been on WW for the past 6 months and have lost slowwwwly, but still a loss. I'm thinking I need to also track my calories because I'm fairly sure I am way under for my calorie deficit which may be why I'm loosing so slow. Great video! I think straight deficit is for people with certain life style and discipline, requires meal planing too. I switch between rest of the three.
One thing that's been helpful for me because I do struggle with binge eating, is to stay on a low carb diet. Not keto necessarily, but even keeping my carb intake around 100g/day (keto is 20g/day for comparison) keeps my blood sugar stable enough that I don't have cravings and even if I intake more calories on the weekend, I don't struggle with food cravings or being hungry, plus I feel better and more energetic.
I've been following you on Insta for a while and have started watching your videos. Your big Mac challenge inspired me to start trying to get into shape (for the nth time). I always had anxiety about food and not being able to eat foods I love and ended up binging and giving up. Realizing now though I can still enjoy food as long as I'm in a deficit has completely changed my perspective. I just got back from the gym for the first time in a long time and am excited to keep going. I can't F this up as long as I keep going! #sortinghatsquad

I just discovered your videos and Instagram today. You are by far the best weight-loss / fitness coach I have ever come across on the interwebs, and on too of that you entwine Harry Potter references throughout everything. Last time I went on a diet, I restricted to much plateaued and gave up, then felt so down about it, I ended up putting even more weight on...this time I started by accident, I was put on meditation for my ADHD and it's killed my appetite, and so I began eating really little Monday - Friday, on Saturday and Sunday I don't take my meds because to put it bluntly, I like the option to drink and sleep in and my medication makes alcohol dangerous and sleep near on impossible...as a result I was consuming more Saturday and Sunday but my calories where so low the rest of the week I wasn't putting on weight ( I was struggling to get over 1000 calories per day)
I clicked on to the fact that this was working and is the best diet trick ever for me, so finding this video just clarifies to me that it's an actual method which works....I'm so excited to loose this COVID lockdown/stress weight I put on!! Its just melting off

I have found the alternate deficit plan is best for me as I know I have to control each day, even the weekends, and allows me to be consistent with my eating with a bit of wiggle room for days I'm just not up for eating or when I feel like having a bit more than normal.
